Busy in the centre of York. Prices are reasonable for a tourist destination but slightly high if elsewhere. Food as ok, with novelty value of being wrapped in a Yorkshire pudding. Upstairs is very basic and could do with wiping down more often.

When I visited York for the first time, I specially tried the local Yorkshire pudding. This store located in the city center is very famous for its convenient transportation. When I arrived at 6 o’clock in the evening, the meat displayed in the window at the door attracted my attention, and I spent about 15mins in line. When ordering, the staff attitude was quite nice. I chose Pork Yorkshire pudding, with apple sauce. The crust of this dish is unique, and the meat is wrapped like a bowl. The portion is enough for two people to share. The pork is fresh and delicious. In general, if you want to taste traditional British food, it is worth a try here!

You get what it is. Yorkshire pudding half filled with overcooked roast potatoes, some meat of your choice. Overcooked mushy carrots swimming in gravy. Served in a paper box....wooden cuttelery that hardly cuts the meat. However quite tasty especially when you are hungry. Sticky tables not very clean but cheap these days I guess. Not at all busy despite it being lunchtime.

If you're a lover of yorkshire puddings, go just for the Yorkshire Pudding Wrap. Atmosphere was ok, if you're looking for a full sit down roast meal I'd recommend elsewhere. But if you want to experience an iconic York staple and finally have enough yorkshire pudding to make you happy it's worth stopping by.

The York Roast Co. is a popular spot, especially for tourists looking to try a classic Yorkshire pudding wrap. The portions are generous, and the combination of roast potatoes, vegetables, stuffing, and gravy makes for a comforting and filling meal. However, if you’re vegetarian, the option is essentially the same as the meat version—just without it. While still tasty, it would be great if they offered a plant-based meat alternative to make it a more substantial choice. The service is quick, and the location is great for grabbing a bite while exploring the city. It’s more of a casual, grab-and-go place rather than a sit-down dining experience, but it’s worth trying if you want a fun, handheld take on a traditional roast.

So very disappointed with our experience at York Roast Co. The food was like warm at best and when I asked for it to be reheated the server looked at me with such an odd expression I was simply embarrassed. The reheated food took about 10mins to turn up and by this time I was so disappointed I didn't feel like eating it. The next thing was that they had forgotten that we ordered tea and my partner had to go back downstairs to reorder it. Whilst I was eating my now reheated food the server came up with some Apple sauce that he had forgotten and then my wooden fork broke. I didn't have the heart to ask him for another. Several years ago this restaurant was really good now however, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. So disappointed and wasted £26. As a pensioner this was a disaster.

Pity you can't put zero stars. Been to York several times over the past few years and this place has always looked busy so today we thought we would have lunch there and we now wish we hadn't. The roast was cold with very little meat and how you are supposed to eat a tough Yorkshire pudding with a wooden knife and fork I would love to know. My partner had their food reheated but it still wasn't good. We almost didn't get our tea either. Suffice to say we will not back.

Bang average, basically subway but for roast dinners. The service was pretty poor, the staff kept touching their face/hair etc then the food constantly, was horrid to watch. The food was fine but a little on the small side. The upstairs venue felt like your typical service station, not particularly inspiring or inviting. Not worth the hype.

I was really looking forward to visiting, as it’s a place I’ve wanted to try for some time. My partner and I dined in, so we ate our food immediately, but unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with the experience. The contents of the wrap were rather limited — there wasn’t much meat inside, barely any stuffing, and the pork itself was quite dry. To add to this, the food was only lukewarm when served, and had we waited any longer, it would have been cold. Considering the price per wrap, I expected a more generous portion and for the food to be piping hot. While I think the concept is fantastic, especially for a city like York, this visit didn’t live up to expectations. I’m unsure if we’ll return, but I do hope that if we give it another try in the future, the experience will be much better.

The food was great, and the wait time wasn’t long, but the upstairs seating area was a letdown. It felt stuffy with barely any fresh air, the tables weren’t clean, and the furniture was damaged. For the price of the wrap, I expected a better dining experience, and the portion size could definitely be a bit more generous. Right now, it feels like a good chunk of what you're paying is just for the branding and location.

Ordered food and watched as the server literally calved up strips of beef meticulously weighing each before putting them in the Yorkshire pudding and passing them over. The food was barely warm, the only option was wooden forks to eat with and I broke 4 of these trying to cut a potato. There was no chance of cutting the beef or Yorkshire pudding with them! Shan’t be visiting again it was a real disappointment.

We visited York this weekend, and after coming to the york roast 2 years prior and having a great experience we definitely knew we needed to go whilst we were passing through, unfortunately our experience was no where near the same this time, firstly there was no pork crackling at lunch time on a Sunday! But I ordered the roast potatoes which came and were okay but they came in a small cup and all of the gravy sat at the bottom as it was so watery. On to the wraps...we ordered 2 beef wraps, we eneded up buying an extra portion of beef as the normal portion was rather small, but still we were optimistic, after walking a short distance, (2 minutes) to our car, we opened the wraps, and to our surprise they were soggy, lukewarm, there was 3 carrots in each wrap and the meat was in such large chunks and poor quality that you could not even chew it, it was ridiculously tough, this cost us £30!!!! I'm so disappointed as the standard has clearly dropped since our last visit, was genuinely one of my favourite reasons to visit york, until now.

Stuffing was so hard I struggled to chew the 1 ball I tried. We went for the all the meats option to try. Some of it was OK, but I couldn't get the knife through the beef, really tough and lots of grissle. I'm not some weakling with arthritis either. Loads of fat on the pork, it was like we got the scrag ends of cheap cuts that had been under a heat lamp for an hour! The veg was cold too! I really don't think it was worth the money!

We went to the store with high expectations after seeing this on YouTube. Firstly there was queue good sign. Ordering was quick and easy we had pork sandwich and crackling and beef with stuffing. We went upstairs to eat and the sandwiches were lukewarm and there wasn't an awful lot of meat. The pork was was very tough. Nicest part was the crackling. A very overpriced experience as we can get 2 hand prepared beef and gammon sandwiches from booths with free crackling for just over £10 on baguettes. To top it all people had brought in fish and chips from across the street and lied to staff that they had ordered food. To be honest they looked nicer. We won't be coming back and would not recommend.

Just been today… well, the building itself if not well kept holes and dirty walls and windows. Cold in the “seating area” and broken chairs that’s have been glued back together. The bath rooms were rotten and filthy supprised it hasn’t been shut down for poor food hygiene. So the food… I got the “Full roast” I asked for no sauce just gravy they gave me horse radish, I got beef it was the most dry beef I’ve ever consumed. Barely edible, the roast potatoes were cold and the veg which all I got was carrots ? They were hard. No taste to the gravy; what shocked me the most was the Yorkshire puddings aren’t fresh at all. They are sat in a plastic box on the floor… The woman who served us threw away about 20 Yorkshire puddings as I presume they were old. Before giving us ours. The pudding itself was chewy and bad tasting. I would complain in person and request a full refund but the staff look untrained and scared to be there… And the “cutlery” was flimsy wooden forks and knifes that can’t cut into the chewy inedible pudding. 100% AVOID. (I should have taken more photos but most of the walls looked like this and the toilets were filthy)

Reinventing Yorkshire's Comfort Food I just have to tell you about The York Roast Co—it’s one of those rare spots that manages to keep everyone happy. As a vegetarian hanging out with my meat-loving friends, finding a place where no one feels left out can be tricky, but for me this place absolutely nails it. As for their Yorkshire pudding wrap. Honestly, it’s genius. They’ve taken this classic comfort food, which is usually a sit-down, knife-and-fork kind of meal, and turned it into a handheld masterpiece. It’s still packed with all those rich, cozy flavors, but now you can enjoy it on the go without wearing half of it on your shirt. We found that the upstairs seating area is such a nice little escape from the busy streets below. It’s cozy, there’s WiFi, and it’s just a great spot to take a breather, and catch up online. But what really made the experience stand out was the staff ⭐️. My 7-year-old grandson took forever to decide what he wanted (seriously, it felt like an eternity), but the team was so patient and kind. No rushed service, no eye-rolling—just warm smiles and genuine friendliness. In a world where everything feels so hurried these days, it was such a refreshing experience. So whether you’re a hardcore meat fan or like myself a dedicated veggie, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a longer meal, remember that York Roast Co has something for everyone. It’s Yorkshire comfort food done right—with a side of fantastic service. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in York! 🥘✨

Visited Thursday 5/12/24. Ordered 2 turkey sandwiches without gravy. Bottle of water & latte. I went upstairs to grab a seat and hubby waited for food & hot drink. He was eventually given the food which consisted of 2 Yorkshire puddings with all trimmings and no gravy. He told the member of staff that we had ordered sandwiches and she just said ‘this is what you ordered’!! No further discussion. Hubby then had to ask for the latte which was another 5 minutes as guy making it walked away and left it!!! By the time it came and hubby had come upstairs the food was cold. He didn’t say anything else as shop was full. I was furious as this was not what we ordered. I can’t eat vegetables so why on earth would I order this!!!! It was not worth the £24 either. How can you miss York Pudding when you come to York~ The roast beef is wrapped in bread that is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, soaking up the sweet gravy. It’s quite delicious! In addition, I ordered a turkey sandwich and watched the crowds flowing outside the window while eating. It felt like I had found a square outside the country where I could enjoy lunch comfortably! York pudding was originally called dripping pudding, but was renamed Yorkshire pudding in a cookbook in 1747. It often appears in traditional British Sunday family roasts. In the past, due to insufficient supplies, the York pudding would be filled with gravy and served with a little meat to fill the stomach. This would make the meal full and reduce the cost of more expensive meat. Nowadays, it has developed into a British specialty dish. You can eat bread alone or add meat or gravy, whatever you like!

Order 2 beef naked roast, and stuffing balls, the roast was so nice and tasty, the stuffing balls was hard and taste weird, staff were helpful and friendly, not crowded when we sat upstairs.

This was the first time having Yorkshire Pudding and I loved it! The gravy mixed with the veggies and potatoes worked so well together. I highly recommend coming and trying this place out. When I’m back in York, I’m coming back for sure.

Wow one of York's and Yorkshire's little Gem's. Popped in for lunch with the wife, we both had the Beef Yorkie wrap. Food was excellent and delicious, veg crunchy. Sunday roast on the go what more could you want. Very filling as well. We did not eat upstairs so cannot comment on what this was like. Service was excellent, it was not too busy when we went, about 4 customers in front of us but on occasions we walked past there was a large queue into the street. Would 100% recommend this place and cannot wait to go back to York to get another one.

Lovely food, always expect when shoving a meal in to a single wrap (in this case a Yorkshire) that it'd ruin the individual flavours but surprisingly this worked well. Pork with apple sauce and mixed vegs worked well. Would definitely recommend

This was the nearest pub to our girl's trip accommodation. Whilst it's nothing fancy in terms of decor and furnishings, it's busy , friendly and reasonably priced . Quiz night on Tuesday was good fun . Great little holiday local 😀

I've ate here a few times, and always have the Korean chicken burger. My first one was lovely, but I know it says crispy, but each time I've come in it gets harder! Could break your teeth. And my son had the burger with belly pork, again "crispy".. not really crispy, just overcooked.

This place is fantastic. Full of character as you'd expect from a building built in the 1700's. The staff are very polite and helpful. Although there is no parking on site, the car park is a 5min walk away with a discounted price.
