Really disappointing experience. We have visited York a few times over the past year and always have commented that we should visit this place. The window display looks so inviting. Unfortunately, that's where the positive ends. Upon entering, no queue (should have raised alarm) not warm greetings by the staff. We ordered 2 sandwiches and a York Roast. It took an absolute age for the server to chop our meat. I have no idea what they were chopping, perhaps removing the meat. Another colleague was tidying the area, which was good to see as it needed it, but really all there were bothered about was what music they could play and sing to. Another colleague joined them in panic they were about to get an inspection, when one of them chanted "were going to get shut down" Why did we not leave then I don't know (I suppose they'd taken our money by then!) Got our order and went upstairs. Got a table in a very filthy area, a good clean is needed. The sandwiches had very little pork (see earlier commented of how long they chopped the meat......what for?) It was tasteless not worth the price charged. The Roast Pud, again no flavour and not much meat. Over £30 paid, and for what. Unfortunately we will no return, and never look at your window displays with eager temptation. This place needs a radical over haul with its customer service and customer experience.

We arrived on a Monday night for dinner at about 6.30. We wanted two roast beef roasts but were told as we got up to the till that they were out of veg so could only do wraps and sandwiches. We pivoted and got two beef wraps. The beef was tasty, the pud was good but the stuffing was truly disgusting- it was slimy, stodgy, bitter and ruined the whole thing. They were very busy but only had two staff working so upstairs was pretty dirty as well. Give them a miss.

Decepcionado.

Not really sure why there are so many negative reviews. We turned up about ten minutes before closing time and still got three really nice wraps. Does what it says on the tin, Yorkshire pud, meat, veg, stuffing, gravy etc. Only slight gripe is that maybe it's a tad expensive, £1.50 or £2 less would be fairer. Same goes for the sides of crackling. Good overall, though.

I visited the York Roast Co. around 1pm after hearing plenty of praise about it being one of the go-to spots for a proper Yorkshire pudding roast in York. Naturally, I had high expectations going in. The queue wasn’t too bad—just two people ahead of me—but even with that, the experience began to falter before I even placed my order. The service was noticeably slow and inattentive. Staff behind the counter were preparing food at a very sluggish pace, and although a few customers were waiting for their orders, those of us in the queue to order weren’t acknowledged at all—not even a basic “we’ll be with you shortly.” It created a slightly awkward atmosphere. When it was finally my turn, I received the same cold, disinterested service—no eye contact, no real engagement, just a transactional exchange with little care. I ordered the classic Yorky Pud Roast, hoping the food would redeem the service. There was ample seating upstairs, which was a plus, and I easily found a quiet spot. Unfortunately, the food didn’t meet expectations either. For £10.50, the portion and quality left a lot to be desired. The dish came with about five small chunks of carved pork (no pork scratchings were offered, despite being part of the appeal), a handful of boiled carrots and green beans that tasted quite plain, and a piece of stuffing that was so hard it was difficult to eat. The roast potatoes lacked crispness and flavor, and the gravy—while plentiful—was incredibly bland. The Yorkshire pudding, which should have been the highlight, had the texture and taste more akin to a thick pancake than a fluffy, crisp pud. All in all, I walked away quite disappointed. Maybe I caught them on an off day—they didn’t seem particularly busy when I arrived, though it got more crowded as I was leaving—but based on this visit, I struggle to see what the fuss is about. With so many great places to eat in York, I expected something a bit more special, especially from a place with such a strong reputation. Not sure I’d return in a hurry.

Delicioso!

When I visited York for the first time, I specially tried the local Yorkshire pudding. This store located in the city center is very famous for its convenient transportation. When I arrived at 6 o’clock in the evening, the meat displayed in the window at the door attracted my attention, and I spent about 15mins in line. When ordering, the staff attitude was quite nice. I chose Pork Yorkshire pudding, with apple sauce. The crust of this dish is unique, and the meat is wrapped like a bowl. The portion is enough for two people to share. The pork is fresh and delicious. In general, if you want to taste traditional British food, it is worth a try here!

If you're a lover of yorkshire puddings, go just for the Yorkshire Pudding Wrap. Atmosphere was ok, if you're looking for a full sit down roast meal I'd recommend elsewhere. The York Roast Co. is a popular spot, especially for tourists looking to try a classic Yorkshire pudding wrap. The portions are generous, and the combination of roast potatoes, vegetables, stuffing, and gravy makes for a comforting and filling meal. However, if you’re vegetarian, the option is essentially the same as the meat version—just without it. While still tasty, it would be great if they offered a plant-based meat alternative to make it a more substantial choice. The service is quick, and the location is great for grabbing a bite while exploring the city. It’s more of a casual, grab-and-go place rather than a sit-down dining experience, but it’s worth trying if you want a fun, handheld take on a traditional roast.

Pity you can't put zero stars. Been to York several times over the past few years and this place has always looked busy so today we thought we would have lunch there and we now wish we hadn't. The roast was cold with very little meat and how you are supposed to eat a tough Yorkshire pudding with a wooden knife and fork I would love to know. My partner had their food reheated but it still wasn't good. We almost didn't get our tea either. Suffice to say we will not back.

So very disappointed with our experience at York Roast Co. The food was like warm at best and when I asked for it to be reheated the server looked at me with such an odd expression I was simply embarrassed. The reheated food took about 10mins to turn up and by this time I was so disappointed I didn't feel like eating it. The next thing was that they had forgotten that we ordered tea and my partner had to go back downstairs to reorder it. Whilst I was eating my now reheated food the server came up with some Apple sauce that he had forgotten and then my wooden fork broke. I didn't have the heart to ask him for another. Several years ago this restaurant was really good now however, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. So disappointed and wasted £26. As a pensioner this was a disaster.

I was really looking forward to visiting, as it’s a place I’ve wanted to try for some time. My partner and I dined in, so we ate our food immediately, but unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with the experience. The contents of the wrap were rather limited — there wasn’t much meat inside, barely any stuffing, and the pork itself was quite dry. To add to this, the food was only lukewarm when served, and had we waited any longer, it would have been cold. Considering the price per wrap, I expected a more generous portion and for the food to be piping hot. While I think the concept is fantastic, especially for a city like York, this visit didn’t live up to expectations. I’m unsure if we’ll return, but I do hope that if we give it another try in the future, the experience will be much better.

We visited York this weekend, and after coming to the york roast 2 years prior and having a great experience we definitely knew we needed to go whilst we were passing through, unfortunately our experience was no where near the same this time, firstly there was no pork crackling at lunch time on a Sunday! But I ordered the roast potatoes which came and were okay but they came in a small cup and all of the gravy sat at the bottom as it was so watery. On to the wraps...we ordered 2 beef wraps, we eneded up buying an extra portion of beef as the normal portion was rather small, but still we were optimistic, after walking a short distance, (2 minutes) to our car, we opened the wraps, and to our surprise they were soggy, lukewarm, there was 3 carrots in each wrap and the meat was in such large chunks and poor quality that you could not even chew it, it was ridiculously tough, this cost us £30!!!! I'm so disappointed as the standard has clearly dropped since our last visit, was genuinely one of my favourite reasons to visit york, until now.

Just been today… well, the building itself if not well kept holes and dirty walls and windows. Cold in the “seating area” and broken chairs that’s have been glued back together. The bath rooms were rotten and filthy supprised it hasn’t been shut down for poor food hygiene. So the food… I got the “Full roast” I asked for no sauce just gravy they gave me horse radish, I got beef it was the most dry beef I’ve ever consumed. Barely edible, the roast potatoes were cold and the veg which all I got was carrots ? They were hard. No taste to the gravy; what shocked me the most was the Yorkshire puddings aren’t fresh at all. They are sat in a plastic box on the floor… The woman who served us threw away about 20 Yorkshire puddings as I presume they were old. Before giving us ours. The pudding itself was chewy and bad tasting. I would complain in person and request a full refund but the staff look untrained and scared to be there… And the “cutlery” was flimsy wooden forks and knifes that can’t cut into the chewy inedible pudding. 100% AVOID. Reinventing Yorkshire's Comfort Food I just have to tell you about The York Roast Co—it’s one of those rare spots that manages to keep everyone happy. As a vegetarian hanging out with my meat-loving friends, finding a place where no one feels left out can be tricky, but for me this place absolutely nails it. As for their Yorkshire pudding wrap. Honestly, it’s genius. They’ve taken this classic comfort food, which is usually a sit-down, knife-and-fork kind of meal, and turned it into a handheld masterpiece. It’s still packed with all those rich, cozy flavors, but now you can enjoy it on the go without wearing half of it on your shirt. We found that the upstairs seating area is such a nice little escape from the busy streets below. It’s cozy, there’s WiFi, and it’s just a great spot to take a breather, and catch up online. But what really made the experience stand out was the staff ⭐️. My 7-year-old grandson took forever to decide what he wanted (seriously, it felt like an eternity), but the team was so patient and kind. No rushed service, no eye-rolling—just warm smiles and genuine friendliness. In a world where everything feels so hurried these days, it was such a refreshing experience. So whether you’re a hardcore meat fan or like myself a dedicated veggie, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a longer meal, remember that York Roast Co has something for everyone. It’s Yorkshire comfort food done right—with a side of fantastic service. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in York! 🥘✨

He was eventually given the food which consisted of 2 Yorkshire puddings with all trimmings and no gravy. He told the member of staff that we had ordered sandwiches and she just said ‘this is what you ordered’!! No further discussion. Hubby then had to ask for the latte which was another 5 minutes as guy making it walked away and left it!!! By the time it came and hubby had come upstairs the food was cold. He didn’t say anything else as shop was full. I was furious as this was not what we ordered. I can’t eat vegetables so why on earth would I order this!!!! It was not worth the £24 either. Won’t be eating here again. You need to train up staff to listen to customers!!!

Pretty poor service, it took a while the staff to acknowledge me. Then the roast pork sandwich was very disappointing, mainly roast potatoes and stuffing rather than actual pork. Would definitely not recommend.

Asked for NO horseradish and for cranberry on my wrap, received what looks like a triple portion of horseradish and no cranberry. Ordered a pot of apple sauce and didn’t get that either

York Roast Co. is the ultimate grab-and-go spot if you’re craving a proper Yorkshire experience—just be ready to queue. The long line is a testament to its popularity, but the staff seems a bit frazzled trying to keep up with the demand. The Yorkshire pudding wrap, a genius invention, is perfect for strolling through the city while stuffing your face for £9. If you’re feeling festive, the Christmas special wrap at £12 is a delicious holiday hug in handheld form. Great food, but patience is definitely required!

3 small pieces of pork. Shocking. Usually there is enough pork for my son and i to share and leftovers for sandwiches the next day. I paid for extra pork. Such a disappointment 😞

Preordered hours in advance - was still 50 minutes late and missing items. Shame as the food was really nice.

Food was absolutely great. The service was even better. Holly (I think her name was) was so helpful and nice to us especially considering it was quite late on a rowdy Friday night. I don't think I could be that friendly that close to the end of my shift but hats off to her! Definitely one of the reasons we'll be coming again

My first negative culinary experience in the UK. A limp sandwich with traces of rather flaxy frying. And 9 pounds for that. Too bad.

The food was kind of fine. Fast serving. I didn't like the space for eating. The has some of the not complete fit. The table ware sticky and dusty. Maybe because I'm not English I don't like it , why it hasn't elementary hygiene at the dining area?

Amazing experience, from the moment we went into the shop, the staff were very friendly and greeted us with a smile. The food was prepared quickly and the staff helped us decide on what to choose when we were unsure. The food itself was delicious and very filling. Definitely recommend.

It was an average experience overall really. Slow service, the person that served me seemed to have forgotten how to smile. The food was OK, the Yorkshire puddings don't seem to be fresh as well it had gone chewy. The meat was very good, just would have liked more, but I understand meat is expensive. Prob would not go back again and would use the shambles market stalls

TBH I feel bad leaving a “late” review bearing in mind the delivery was only 5 mins ate, and it was in an awkward terraced house place. The deliverer tried his best and homed in on my mobile signal which was unfortunately 2 doors away. However, we enjoyed the food, it was hardly warm, and the meat as fantastic. Thank you for a great first experience with you guys. Will order again (if I can as I will be ordering from Germany in future - hopefully!)🤞🏻

The looks of the food are great, it's very traditional. Personally, apple sauce on meat it's not my favourite. It was crowded and the price was fair.

This was the nearest pub to our girl's trip accommodation. Whilst it's nothing fancy in terms of decor and furnishings, it's busy , friendly and reasonably priced . Quiz night on Tuesday was good fun . Great little holiday local 😀

I've ate here a few times, and always have the Korean chicken burger. My first one was lovely, but I know it says crispy, but each time I've come in it gets harder! Could break your teeth. And my son had the burger with belly pork, again "crispy".. not really crispy, just overcooked.
