I can't understand some of the reviews on here. I think people should review things based on reality. This is not Starbucks, Costa or Greggs. It's not Pret, McDonalds or Burger King either. It's a facility within a charity aiming to bring alive an era before these massive organisations had taken over our society. Manned not by highly paid executives rolling out strategy to beat the competition but run on a shoestring by volunteers and a few paid employees who are providing memories for a public who remember station waiting rooms and buffet bars exactly like the Signals cafe. This NOT a commercial operation, it is part of the exhibit of the railway buffet bars of the 40'-60's when a certain Dr Beeching took an axe to the railways which provided links to towns an villages throughout the country. Review it in the context of it's situation. To the women who were on duty when my family of 5 adults and 2 children called, thanks for providing us with the food and drinks which I remember from mainline and local stations operating pre Beeching cuts. It let us pass an hour in the type of buffet which was commonplace in my young days. Also gave me an opportunity to educate my youngsters over the life I used to live in and brought much of what they had just experienced in the steam journey from Whitby. A thorough authentic experience in keeping with the North Yorkshire Railway objectives To other reviewers who were less than appreciative of the reconstruction of the rail experience pre 60's, I suggest you volunteer your time and skills to one of the thousands of charities in the U.K. who are doing their best to serve their local communities. It might just help you come to grips with life and appreciate the work others do to help their fellow human beings.

Unos días antes de ir al bar a comer, una mañana había visitado la recepción del hotel para preguntar qué se servía allí los domingos. El personal muy servicial y agradable me dio toda la información que necesitaba. El domingo fui al bar con mi hijo. El almuerzo dominical se sirve de 12 a 3 , llegamos sobre las 2 . 15 . Nos dimos cuenta de que nadie en el bar estaba comiendo. Había dos miembros del personal en el bar, mi hijo preguntó si había una opción vegetariana. Ninguno de los dos miembros del personal sabía cuál era la opción, lo averiguaron por nosotros, pero yo habría pensado que habrían tenido la información a mano, especialmente en esa etapa de la hora del almuerzo. El personal era servicial, pero parecía ser un poco vago sobre todo! Decidimos comer en otro lugar.

What a fabulous place this is! Perfect wedding venue. Parking great and from the moment we walked in it felt relaxed. All the staff are so lovely and nothing was ever too much trouble. Sammie the bar manager is a legend. Lorraine the breakfast lady is a hoot! The rooms are very spacious and were more than adequate for a two night stay. The place runs like clockwork but keeps an air of tranquility. The grounds are stunning and over the lake was the open air lodge where the ceremony takes place, decorated with lights. All in all a perfect place…. Thank you

When staying at the Hotel we chose to eat at the hotel. the food was EXCELLENT and Haley made every effort to making our meals fit to our tastes as well as to my wifes wheat and gluten allergy. We Had the Steak the first night....OMG, lovely and Gammon Steak on the second night. Wonderful tastes. Thank you to Haley and the Cook

All the food at the Fairfield restaurant was cooked to perfection & I would highly recommend it. There was plenty of choice & the restaurant caters for all diets

We were walking through Scarborough as part of our hike along the Cleveland Way and after walking past the Beach Huts in North, heading towards South Bay, we were on the lookout for somewhere to grab a quick meal. Everywhere seemed crazy busy, but luckily we found this place without a queue - possibly now I understand why no queue though as just wasn't great. My husband's small fish was huge! but he didn't enjoy so ate less than half. My battered sausage and chips was good/average quality, but the sausage was teeny! Still, we ate enough to fill our bellies so we could continue on our walk.

Encantador pub y tan amable... a 5 estrellas de nosotros... entramos a tomar 1 copa una noche y recordaron nuestros nombres y bebidas la segunda noche... Hermoso pequeño pub... todos bienvenidos

Held my mum's wake there, excellent food all homemade, catered for all allergies. Excellent service, would highly recommend a visit.

Had a fantastic 'Yorkshire Deal' fish and chips meal at Quayside. Whenever we are in Whitby Quayside is our fish and chips restaurant of choice, we almost always sit in to eat although you can get take away. The quality of the food is outstanding, perhaps a bit dearer than some places, but it's worth it. The Yorkshire deal allows either cod or haddock (I always opt for haddock), chips, mushy peas, a slice of bread and butter and a pot or tea. The staff did allow my wife to swap the mushy peas for gravy. The food came out swiftly and we enjoyed them in a lovely decorated and spacious restaurant. Quayside have not tried to cram too many tables in, which makes for a great meal experience. We will no doubt be back there later in the year when we visit Whitby next.

We came in for lunchtime scampi chips and curry sauce and chips and gravy. Service was prompt & polite & dog-friendly. I had a very nice bottle of 6% IPA which set me up for the afternoon. Curry sauce was tasty and the scampi numerous. Remember to bring a bit of cash to tip with if you are going to pay by card.

Llamé de camino a casa desde Dalby Forest. Tuvimos cenas de domingo que eran mediocres en el mejor de los casos. Luke caliente, asados duros como roca y pudín. Comimos a las 4 de la tarde, pero si no puedes mantener la frescura y la calidad de la comida, debes dejar de servir antes. Se lo mencionamos a un miembro del personal que dijo “lo siento” y se fue. Las tres mesas que estaban a nuestro alrededor también se quejaron y enviaron comida de vuelta. No volvería ya que simplemente no valía la pena. El Jolly Sailors más adelante en la carretera de los páramos es un millón de veces mejor.

Llamamos el viernes para el desayuno como lo hemos hecho en el pasado y siempre fue bueno. Mi desayuno inglés no era genial. Las salchichas han sido reemplazadas por una empanada que no es muy agradable y mis huevos fritos estaban demasiado cocidos y duros. Así que no nos molestaremos en volver a desayunar.

Llamamos por un par de bebidas y tomamos una taza de té y café. Cobraba £ 8 , cuando llegaron las bebidas el café era un simple café instantáneo. Personalmente no me gusta el café instantáneo y no podía beberlo, cuando hablaba con la persona. Shins el bar era un caso de pena todas las bebidas calientes son £ 4. Mucho más caro y más barato en Costa, donde se obtiene un café molido recién molido. En otro lugar más tarde ese día el café y el té eran más baratos y de mejor calidad. Si bien aprecio que los costos en todas las áreas de negocio hayan aumentado, desde tarifas, salarios de alquiler, etc. Siento que simplemente cobrando más, está cobrando precios demasiado altos y perderá clientes repetidos. Los precios competitivos conseguirán repetir el negocio y a largo plazo generarán más ingresos. Personalmente no volveremos a visitar este negocio.
