Olivers On The Mount Cafe and Bar in Scarborough

Second visit for lunch and again thoroughly enjoyed it. Came on spec and a table was available and on a Friday. Tried the club sandwich this time which was great, generous sarnie packed with filling. Hubby had a cooked brekkie which was also very good. As locals, enjoy driving up to The Mount for a spot of lunch here. Lovely views over Scarborough, and pleasant lunch, great for us. See you again soon.

Good food and excellent views over Scarborough. Not cheap but very good quality and service. I will definitely revisit this cafe.

Rude owners! Spent the weekend here with friends for the motorbike racing and booked a table for breakfast. The service was terrible and the welcome did not exist! Have you booked a table the lady barked at us. I asked a young waiter if she was always that rude and he said she is the owner and yes she is! I then politely chased up our breakfasts after waiting an hour and was shouted at by the same woman who said the food was freshly cooked! Never again! We will go somewhere that appreciate good customers.

It's gone totally down hill, very very dissappting at every level, such a present dissapointmet, having visited this establishment for many years, but never again. I simply agree with all the other recent negative comments.

We have been here before and enjoyed our previous visits but this time it is clear that something has changed, ownership, business model or whatever?. The front of house is manned by what appears to be work experience staff, not welcoming and at best functional. The food is barely passable compared to previous visits, I had fish, chips and mushy peas, the fish was described as locally sourced (whatever that means) but I'm guessing the locally is the nearest supermarket ready battered and re-heatable fish! the peas were a thin runny green soup. All considered, a very unenjoyable visit, poor food and for what we were served, overpriced.

Appreciate all reviews are subjective and individual but really surprised by so many negative reviews. We visited for lunch , sat outside in the sunshine..the young lads serving and waiting were friendly and polite .. We ordered lunch 'Club Sandwich and Burrata' and a couple of drinks ... Portion size was large which was pleasing for the price.. food was tasty and well presented....one minor criticism is processed cheese was designed for Mcdonalds burgers not adult sandwiches but the rest was spot on and won't stop us coming back to try something different. Really hate to write this review as we ate here exactly 2 years ago and our meal was so good we were looking forward to this visit. We both ordered the katsu chicken sandwich with fries at £12 each. The sandwich looked fine but after eating a while decided to open the sandwich to find what looked like an over microwaved cut up chicken burger each. Should have sent the meal back regrettably but don't get me wrong the young staff were very nice and we are far too polite. Going to miss coming to this wonderful spot on our next visit to Scarborough, what a shame.

Popped in today for breakfast with my wife, the location and views are spectacular… However that’s where it ends, decoration average, food average, customer service below average, price expensive for what we had. No table service, which it should have been for the price

Back again, came last week for breakfast so thought we would call again. This is an excellent cafe please ignore reviews that scream out to me that they don’t like change. Breakfast excellent, service excellent and coffee excellent. I will not miss coming here when I am in Scarborough. I think prices are spot on when you take into account the location on a clear day stunning view over the bay.

The place seems to have gone down hill slightly. The breakfast used to always be lovely but the bacon seemed cheap and the sausage patties are awful. The young man that brought the food to the table didn’t even put the food in front of us and just put the plates on the side of the table and walked away, leaving us to sort out which is very odd. It seemed there was a clear lack of training and management.

Well, this used to be a favourite spot to pop into for a light breakfast. Tea in a pot, decent toast and good servings, although a little pricey. Since the 'refurbishment', everything's changed, including the menu, now severely reduced in choice (but not in size) at a higher price, 'yuppified' and provided as a placemat! It seems you get less choice and smaller 'upmarket' servings for more money under the new regime - tea in a mug, and my usually generous poached eggs on toast now a couple of eggs on a single slice of barely toasted 'sourdough', served in a PASTA BOWL, completely covered in salad and an artistic but wholly unwelcome 'balsamic dressing'. My incredulous "What's that?" when it arrived led to it being swiftly withdrawn, and after explaining that I disliked vinegar, it was eventually returned, still in a bowl, with no dressing and the salad to one side. I still have no idea what the unwelcome salad leaves were, I suspect dandylion, but I didn't want salad with poached eggs on toast! We were both less than impressed - it was like losing an old friend and we won't be back again, unfortunately.

Very poor. Stood at counter for a long time at 1400hrs whilst staff discussed what they were having for dinner. Then told ‘cake and drinks only’. Cake selection looked poor. Enquired about something more substantial - told ‘ask him over there’ ‘kitchen is closed’ and directed to someone wiping down the tables. Needless to say I left the building. Unfortunately the establishment has gone downhill which is a shame as the location is lovely. Maybe don’t advertise yourselves as open when you’re not!! Went down to Deans Garden Centre Cafe for an excellent meal and better service by far.

We were very disappointed with the change of menu and the refurbishment, this was the best restaurant for good quality breakfasts and lunches and now it has been ruined. The whole ambiance has changed and the prices have skyrocketed with the food options available more akin to a fast food cafe. In fact more angry than disappointed.

Went for breakfast with a friend, walked in the place was freezing. Got given an extremely dirty glass it literally had food stuck to it so had to ask for a new one. Food came out within minutes of ordering, “too quick” egg was like rubber sausage very greasy it was all barely warm clearly all been sat under heat lights, the toast wasn’t toast it was barely warm bread. Whilst we were there not one member of staff wiped one table they just took the plates off and put dirty menus back on so no cleaning of tables between guests. For nearly £40 for 2 breakfasts 2 coffees and a juice I’d expect much more or at least hot fresh food.

Visited here today with my friend, was quite excited to try it since its refurbishment however was disappointed. The menu is quite limited now compared to last time. I ordered a club sandwich at around 13:30 and asked if I could have the egg removed. I was informed that these were already pre-made so this could not happen. I proceeded to order it and would remove it myself, however after ordering and taken payment I went and sat back down at my table to be informed they had ran out. That was fine and was happy to order a different meal however was quite limited for choice due to only having 3 other sandwich choices. The burger I did have instead was delicious though! Another point is that they do not advertise that they stop serving hot food at approximately 2pm although they don’t shut till 4pm. I tried to come here on Saturday also and arrived at about 5 past 2, to be told that only the cakes and 2 cold sandwiches in the fridge was the only things available now which we was disappointed in as we had come especially to try the new food. This definitely needs to be advertised more clearly!

Our usual place for a lovely breakfast when visiting Scarborough but sadly we were disappointed, the interior seems very bare and it was so cold, we noticed most people were sitting with their coats on and we had to do the same. The breakfast was £13 and no longer included juice so felt rather overpriced as it was quite a small offering compared to previous visits. A shame all in all as it used to be so enjoyable and if you were lucky enough to get a window seat was a great start to the day. Probably won’t return.

We visited often before the refurbishment and always enjoyed it though the staff were mostly quite unwelcoming. I saw the reviews after the refurbishment and almost didn’t bother going back but we went today. The refurbishment gives more room for dogs which is great for us. We just had tea and coffee and a scone and took some yummy lemon cake home. The staff were very friendly which was lovely compared to before. They do bagels and locks which look delicious and the menu is very appealing. We don’t mind paying more when quality and choice is so good. The negative comments I think are very unfair. Well done!

Very disappointed. We went back to what used to be one of our favourite places for breakfast. They have now tried to go more 'posh' rather than providing good full English breakfast as before. A couple of half bits of bacon, a sausage that was more of a burger, I only received one hash brown. Having been going because of the fabulous gluten free option I actually felt that this demographic has now been pushed out. Oh and the juice now isn't included so its even more expensive for less food. We won't be returning.

Have been coming here for years. Recent refurbishments have included the menu, not however in a good way . Over priced, badly cooked, dirty cutlery and crockery and sooooo slow, inefficient service. Will NOT be back.

This Cafe is situated in a fantastic location overlooking Scarborough. It has recently been refurbished and it looks great. Trouble is, the menu is what I would describe as 'quirky'. Not your normal fare at all. Most choices are vegetarian though bacon and turkey (but not pork) sausages are available . There a strong Halal influence and alcohol is no longer available. It comes down to personal preferences but not for me I am afraid.

Wow! What a disappointment! After multiple lovely meals here, I went with friends today for breakfast. There had been some minor ‘improvements’ made to the decor, and the menu updated. A small English breakfast and mug of tea is now £14. Bacon,two tiny rashers of streaky bacon, black pudding that was cooked within an inch of its life. Only sourdough bread offered ( and gf), the mug of tea I had, had lipstick still on it. Table nearby had to request new cutlery because theirs was dirty, and we saw three separate groups of people sit down at the table next to us, look at the menu and leave. The earl grey tea was served in a tea pot with a tea strainer built in for the loose tea, and they only filled it a third full of hot water, and the strainer let half the loose tea out of the holes!! Painfully slow service. Really hope they go back to the way they were, as it was a lovely place!

I’m all for a bit of change but there is a limit. The menu is different lots of vegan choice now. But one the things which we loved was the Oliver’s breakfast, the new scaled down one wasn’t something I would buy photos look ok , but to me Turkey sausages and streaky bacon are a cut back . I asked for a bacon roll ,which was off menu the other breakfast roll just didn’t appeal to me I think it was in brioche it was. Ery sweet but I’m guessing it was the maple cured bacon.My latte with oat milk was pricey and in glass! When I asked no cups ..I was informed no it’s in glass now. Well I would have thought a hot drink in glass was a-bit awkward as it would be hot…well it wasn’t hot to handle and just hot enough to drink…disappointing. My friend sent her egg breakfast with chickpeas halumi back as it was cold ,she described it to me as dish water . They offered another she declined. We had no idea we had to get our own cutlery and serviette. The young lad who brought our food asked us if we wanted sauces, but dint say here the cutlery etc was. I was a regular at Olivers but unless the menu reverts somewhat I’m afraid it won’t be our Sunday morning place to go anymore. Also we go there as a group of ladies but two of us said we would try it out since the changes ….. As you cannot book a table anymore we were worried incase we would have to wait..not so hardly any tables taken, early days for the” new look” but as a group of ladies who brunch .. sadly we won’t be brunching there

I am so very sad to right this review, since we have been going up there for a few years and love the place. However, they have since refreshed the decor ect and the menu. I can't say that this is an improvement...yes the new counter looks fabulous. But the scaled down menu and the rise in prices are not great. We had a large breakfast and French toast plus a couppleof lattes. The lattes were served in tumblers....errr sorry but no to that, picking up a very hot glass, not a good idea. There used to be juice with the breakfast...not any more, bare in mind this costs £13 and you don't get as much, £3.40 for a latte is rather steep and worst of all at thiis high price point, you have to get your own cutlery and sauces ect....We were so disapointed with the new way things are, that in future it will be coffees only, as a treat Again I am so sorry for my bad review...but you are not offering value for money any more

We drove here from Scarborough Had two lovely well cooked meals sitting outside looking over the town and the whole coastline of Scarborough. The view is amazing. There is lots of parking and you could also walk along a track afterwards. Well worth a trip.
