The King Richard III in Scarborough

Went early Friday morning, looked a nice place so gave it a try. Was greeted with a very polite waiter. Ordered 2 sausage sandwiches and one bacon sandwich coffees and hot chocolate. Then had to pay before the food came, thought a little strange but hey ho that’s fine. Then the food came, the worlds worst sausages had been put into some bread, they were just cheap nasty tasteless sausages. The bacon was ok and the drinks were lovely but the sausages 🤢 I honestly can’t explain how bad they were. I was expecting some good quality butchers sausages not ground up camel dung. I really hope for others sake it’s just a blip and they had run out of the good stuff.

We came in for lunchtime scampi chips and curry sauce and chips and gravy. Service was prompt & polite & dog-friendly. I had a very nice bottle of 6% IPA which set me up for the afternoon. Curry sauce was tasty and the scampi numerous. Remember to bring a bit of cash to tip with if you are going to pay by card.

On our recent stay in Scarborough we visited for drinks only. We sat outside in glorious sunshine and really enjoyed the setting and the environment too! The service is waiter/table service only even just for drinks. Prices are high (Pinot Rose’ £8.00 glass). Great service, great setting but “by heck you pay for it”

The perfect escape from crowdy street. Quite, clean no smells or streaky tables. Good traditial food, no complaints. And point where some people moaning I would say it's perfect when you pay upfront! You don't need to wait or catch someone to pay. 100% recommended!

Hemos tenido unas cuantas buenas comidas de pub y desayunosss aquí a lo largo de los años - está impecablemente limpio siempre muy bien renovado y muy agradable para perros. Sin embargo, la calidad de la comida ha bajado mientras que los precios han subido. Scampi y patatas fritas y ensalada muy bien presentados pero totalmente insípidos Scampi de muy baja calidad, sin duda no Whitby wholetail y a £ 14. 50 de más. No volveré

Nos gusta venir aquí cuando el sol brilla, comimos hoy, mi esposa y yo comimos baguettes de gambas, muy sabrosas. Volveremos de nuevo, no te preocupes.

Lovely food, friendly staff, clean restrooms. We didn't book and were lucky to be seated at a nice booth.

Had some lunch here. Food was tasty (good sized portions) and well priced. Quirky decor with knights armours on the wall.

We didnt eat, we just had a drink and used the toilets. A fabulous place with links to its named King. Very historic and attractive building. Nice staff and good guiness!

Staff were friendly but the concept of ordering and paying at the table before eating was a bit strange, we assume they must have people who leave without paying. Would prefer to order at the bar if that's the case. Sunday roast was OK and pudding was delicious. Dog friendly which is great and we had a great table near a door which isn't used so she could lie down which was fab. They also managed to accommodate the 6 of us a couple of hours earlier than what we booked.

It was great food good staff great but dogs spoiled the day they should be outside The food is prepped inside how do they get a star rating with animals allowed in. I have an allergy to pet hair and will not eat again in there

Ordered a pint and a burger with extra cheese and was asked to pay before the food came out, and now I know why. The last time I saw anything that pallid and beige I was eating a school meal (before Jamie Oliver). Literally bread cheese and a patty, no salad in the bun, no sauce. Girlfriend got the spicy bean burger and it was the same story, why would a vegetarian want salad in their burger? But you don't eat with your eyes so let's have a bash... Oh nevermind, had the texture of a flipflop and the unmistakable taste of frozen thawed economy meat, animal unknown, but I'm checking for jokey silks. Chips were ok, not bad not great, bendy onion rings. Didn't bother to complain as it's not like the chef is gonna go out and buy quality ingredients or change the way they plate up, check back, "everything ok?" " yeah it's ok" "ok"... Ok is not ok, just saying. I will say the fish and chips on the table over from us looked pretty good. That's my compliment for the day done. If youre in a rush and want something cheap, tasty and quick, don't bother, this place is none of those things, get a hotdog and enjoy the true Scarbados experience. Will not be returning

We visited several times, & at different times, during our New Year break with family, either for drinks or for food & drinks. A friendly pub/eatery, which welcomes children & dogs, is what we were looking for & this fit the bill perfectly. We sat in the same area, near the bar & felt very welcome & comfortable every time. We called in on NYD &, although it was very busy, they managed to squeeze-in all 8 of us (plus dog) by letting us use a reserved table until the booking time. The girl who greeted us explained it needed to be vacated by 2pm as she didn’t want us to feel rushed. However, we were still able to have a relaxed drink & some of our group had food, too. We’re staying in Scarborough again this year (only 4 adults & no dog this time, though!) & this one will be our ‘go to’ place.

Mi esposo también fue tentado por la quiche que aparece en el tablero de menús de afuera, pero desafortunadamente esto fue tachado del menú de adentro. Él estaba más que feliz, sin embargo, con el pastel y el puré que tenía en su lugar y yo estaba muy impresionado con el pescado y patatas fritas. El pescado era absolutamente delicioso y lo recomendaría encarecidamente y volvería a comer aquí de nuevo. El servicio era de primera categoría también.

Being asked to pay before food and drink is consumed in a place where you are seated by staff, indicating table service I felt was the only negative but since everything else was positive: Helpful staff, prompt service and good communication and awareness of allergies etc I'm awarding a 5 but it was nearly a 4. Historical and interesting setting. Friends happy with tea. Curry sauce good. My own personal taste is cauliflower slightly better done but I ate it all. Good portion of diet coke. Attention to detail. Would recommend.

Personal muy grosero, hablando juntos en el bar, haciendo comentarios groseros sobre los clientes en la habitación. No parecía que quisieran servir a la gente y luego nos empujaron el cajero automático de pago, que nos pidió que seleccionaramos qué porcentaje de propina quería dar. Solo vinimos a tomar una copa después de nuestro paseo y pedimos en el bar, así que sorprendidos de que nos pidieran una propina. Me quedé perpleja y la joven parecía molesta y dijo: "Elige uno". Ambiente horrible y personal grosero.

We came here for a breakfast and coffee and and it was absolutely beautiful one of the best freshest breakfasts we have had all the staff was really polite and friendly. Would definatly recommended

June 2024 update: Still an awesome gluten free menu. Roast dinners, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, lots of choice and staff very knowledgable regarding allergies. Recommended for coeliacs! Fantastic for gluten free. Plenty of gluten free options available and staff are very knowledgeable regarding food allergies and intolerances. I had the beef burger with chips and salad (gluten free chips and buns are available!)

Lets us sit inside in a special 'dog' area, food was good and the service was quick.

Spot on We ate outside on a Thursday lunchtime. The host did his best to accommodate us as a party of 12. Moved a few tables about to make it possible and made it simple for each family to pay for their respective bills. Unfortunately, they didn't have the pork with stuffing baguette available so I chose the beef baguette. A little wary when I saw the price but upon arrival and eating it, it represents good quality for the money. There was good thick cuts of beef, delicious gravy and the baguette was lovely, soft and fresh. All the party enjoyed their lunches. Exactly what we wanted.

Popped in here today for a drink and the use of the facilities. Staff were extremely friendly, service was quick & easy. I used the toilet, quite possibly the cleanest public toilets I've been in a long time and are stoma friendly too - which they should shout about. Will definitely try again for food another day - looked gorgeous.

We ate there twice, both times very delicious. We had the Steak pie, a chicken burger and the Yorkshire Pudding and it was all great. Also very nice atmosphere and staff.

Lovely little bar and restaurant located in the middle of Scarborough.Excellent service and nothing too much trouble either & dog friendly too.Would visit here again when in area.

Food was great. Sunday lunch at reasonable price washed down by glass of wine. Plenty of beers on tap. This place was a great find in amongst all the other places on the front. Seating outside. Staff were helpful and friendly plus service was great. Something on menu for everyone.

Just surprising that they charge you £1.30 for a mug of hot water. Spent £58 so wasn’t just drinking hot water.

Had a wonderful visit to The King Richard III. We were lucky to pick a lovely sunny Saturday in September. The actual building is stunning with awesome stone work. Food & Drinks is good, as was the staff/ service. I thought they did well considering how busy it was. I would highly recommend the food & well worth a visit. Dog friendly too.

What an absolute gem of a find. Food, both of taste and portion size, was absolutely on point. I had the giant Yorkshire pudding with chicken and chips. The chicken was beautiful and moist. Had a bottle of inch's, too. Nice quick, speedy service from all the staff. Will most definitely be going back again given the chance.

Stopped here for lunch with hubby and pooch. Lots of seating outside and inside, unfortunately the pub lost its character towards the rear (way to the loo), tables and chairs pushed back against the walls and it was quite dark! The food was fine but nothing special. Must say the service we received from our waitress Shannon was exceptional, she was absolutely on it and nothing was too much trouble for her when letting her know about a food intolerance. Definitely service with a smile and she was so friendly and happy.

Visitamos aquí 3 veces dentro de nuestra estancia en Scarborough. Un lugar encantador con buena comida, personal amable y una decoración agradable. Habría dado 5 * pero desafortunadamente el menú de postres era extremadamente limitado, lo que fue decepcionante, pero en general recomendaría totalmente a cualquiera.

We normally dont complain about food much but this was so bad, we had the chickenburger with fries. Nothing was freshly made, which wasnt the problem, the problem was that the fries were way to hard, not one was tasty. The chickenburger wasnt to bad but this was certaintly one of the worst meals we had in a long time. Waitress was polite , even helped us when we asked for another seat as next to us several guests were a bit drunk and loud.

My wife and I visited this pub for the first time tonight and ordered a roast dinner and a chilli. Asked to pay in full for food prior to it arriving which is very unusual for table service, so suspected at that point the food was going to be rubbish. Both meals were completely unseasoned and bland. The chickpea chilli had absolutely no spice in it at all, it was more like chickpeas in a sweet tomato sauce. Would have given our comments politely to a staff member rather than on here if anyone bothered to ask us how our food was. If you like bland, tasteless food then this is the place for you.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch of beef and Yorkshire pudding. There were loads of beef we also had really mash, roast potatoes, cabbage carrots, and peas 🫛 😋 .Would definitely recommend it 👌.

Great little spot for dinner. Easy to book online and great friendly service from the second we arrived. I am gluten and dairy free and they gave me the allergy menu straight Away and were very knowledgeable around allergies. I had a lovely chicken and bacon salad with chips and it was lovely! Reasonably priced and great kids menu. Will definitely visit again

Called here for breakfast while staying in scarborough, the service from the friendly staff was excellent as was the food. The price was reasonable and the atmosphere was very relaxed, the staff were very helpful while we were there they opened another door to make it easier for a customer to access the premises. Came here for lunch with 6 friends. We were shown to a seat straight away,my dog was welcomed inside. The menu had a good range of food on it which covered all of us in the party. When we ordered the food came quickly and was freshly prepared and cooked. Lovely surroundings and friendly staff.

We have always enjoyed dining here and our recent visit was no exception! We had the most amazing Sunday roast dinner which is probably the best roast meal I have had in a very long time- cooked to perfection, full of flavour and generous portions. Fabulous table service, friendly, welcoming and inclusive. Looking forward to a return visit.

The menu said that the panini contained cheese plus any one of a selected filling any additional filling was 60p I had cheese with ham and an extra filling of red onions which I expected to cost 60p instead I was charged 1.80 for the three fillings. So I was charged 7.75 for a hot panini before adding the fillings, I wonder how many other people have been decieved by this

Visited this restaurant this week and found the staff to be friendly and welcoming. Asked if we had any allergies etc. Service was excellent and the food was hot and delicious. Would definitely visit this restaurant next time we visit Scarborough.

Had a lovely day out in Scarborough, called in the King Richard lll pub & was greeted by a lovely man called Chris who welcomed us, had several drinks sat outside in the sunshine, table service was spot on couldn't have asked for better. The food was great too.

We called in this week and was met by a very pleasant waitress who took our order. We have avoided these sea front pubs as we guessed they would be expensive and tacky, however what a find, prices were competitive and the place was clean and well presented. We did not eat but when we went in the pub people were eating and the food looked good. We will return.

We went there to get a proper steak pie. And we got it. Fast serving, and it tasted real fine.

I ordered a regular haddock fish n chips and got whale n chips. I can't imagine what a large would look like... it was huge and very very tasty, well cooked and served hot within 10 mins. Very friendly service. Waitress asked if i wanted more time deciding before returning a few minutes later to take our orders with a happy service that continued as we left. Anybody inn Scarborough wanting to know where they get their money's worth, this is the place. Music could do with being a bit louder for my liking.

Food disappointing, left most of it. Was our favourite place to eat a few years back but it seems to have declined as regards the quality of the food. Sadly won't be going again. In response to your comments we were not asked at any stage if our food was ok! In fact I thought it was extremely bad that the gentleman who collected our plates didn't comment on a full plate of uneaten food being left.

Me and my mum went for breakfast here and the service was amazing - they were very friendly and couldn’t so enough for us. The food was gorgeous and hot too and the service was quick I took my Dalmatian with us and they gave him breakfast too in a dog bowl 5 star service I couldn’t recommend enough

I only had an oat latte and beans on toast, but the meal was excellent, I love beans anyway, but these were very thick and saucy on really good bread. The staff were super friendly. Lovely atmosphere and great service.

What a place some cheeky geezer named Connor was chatting some bare stuff was glad to see him kicked out I can’t lie his missis needs to teach him a lesson of respect he looks about 45 for gods sake keep yourself under control. Other than that had a great night, found out recently it’s dog friendly can’t wait to bring my staffy, the dark hound he will love it there. Family wanna come visit now they better owe me pints for this recommendation I tell you that now. Anyways bloody great staff if you ask me shoutout to the girl on shift Dk her name had to many pints since then but you made my and my girlfriends night we really appreciate it. Had our 2nd visit here today and couldn’t have been happier with our overall experience .We were greeted by a lovely gent and our order was taken by a lovely young lady. We had two chicken and stuffing Sunday lunches which were simply lovely. We will be visiting again next time we are in Scarborough .
