We (usually 6 of us)go for a meal every fortnight, we have been to The Star several times and have never been disappointed, the staff are always polite, friendly and helpful, the food is cooked freshly, and there is always plenty on your plate, thank you The Star for some great meals out.

After searching online for somewhere to eat we chose The Star. Food was really good, and served boiling hot. The steak and ale pie was packed full of large tender chunks of meat, and the homemade chips were good. Hubby had chilli, made the proper way, with beef chunks, not mince, and he said it was just right, with a nice kick of heat. For me though, the stem ginger pudding was probably the lightest , fluffiest pudding I've ever had, it was absolutely delicious. Hubby had Sicilian Lemon pudding, and that tasted great aswell. The pub serves a decent selection of real ales, which kept the hubby happy, and the staff were very friendly. All in all, a great experience, and would definitely recommend a visit if you're down that way.

Popped in for a shandy and crab sandwich. Very nice.

Excellent food and service. Gluten free options. There were 6 in our group,which included 2 children and all of us said it was the best pub meal we had ever eaten.

Great place for a good night out

It's OK food wasn't bad, but the lunch time menu hasn't got much to offer.

A worthy entry in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide with six cask ales available, all from Yorkshire breweries. I visited at lunchtime and had the small steak & ale pie for £8.95 which was excellent.

This is a great pub, good food and nice staff. I would suggest the kitchen is not organised as well as other food places. Was told we could order food in 45 minutes, when ordering told that there only a certain number of meals that are made and they were sorry but there is no food.

Absolutely fantastic lunch! Visiting Mum in law today who lives just round the corner. Called in for lunch and a pint. The food was fantastic. I had the chicken wrap and Stuart and Maureen had the crab sandwich and prawn sandwich. Everything was really fresh and delicious - and the chips really were home made. Great crowd of people outside everyone really friendly. Would highly recommend. 😋🙏🌟

Lovely venue, great choice, good staff

Sat in the beer garden and most of us had the steak pie, chips and peas. Excellent quality - came with extra gravy without having to ask. Chips homemade - delicious. Steak pie - lovely pastry/lots of meat and so tender! 💯 recommended!!!

The best pub we found in filey.staff are friendly and welcoming and know how to serve a decent guinness. Friday night quiz was great .

Limited menu but nicely prepared and reasonable value. Seating is old pews so hard and a bit crowded. Food pleasant and ample portions

Only had a pint of hand pull bitter but it was great. Just moved back to York so it is years since being in The Star. Will definitely be back. A year later, we're back. Great ale. Must try food next time.

Great real ale but wonderful pub food...seafood starter, beef suet pudding and chunky chilli con carne were faultless!

Great wee pub, initially we were seated in the restaurant but moved back into the bar, meal was ok, beers excellent choice and served well. Pity they haven’t changed the menu on the website as I was really looking forward to the liver which is no longer available, hey ho!

We visited the Star of the weekend whilst on a cycling weekend away. The staff were friendly enough and the drinks were reasonably priced. Watch out of the wine barrel with a slope near the dart board, it sent my full pint flying as soon as I put it down. No dramas other than a quick mop up by the bar staff.

Lynne let's us use the conservatory for our WI meetings. She provided lovely cake and hot drinks for us. I ran a printing workshop there which was great fun. Thanks Lynne

Great food and large selection of drinks

Homemade freshly prepared food that doesn't break the bank. Always call at least once every time we visit Filey. Very nice vegetarian options and very helpful friendly staff. Probably best to book but they'll do their best to accommodate you if you just turn up.

6 of us arrived for some drinks and food,we were told that we couldn't have food as they were to busy as they had two parties coming in later, we had a pint each and left, the business lost out on atleast £100 of business.

Went here for my fiancé's birthday and we were not disappointed. The staff were really friendly and the food was superb. Great value for money and the portions did not disappoint. Will definitely return when we come to Filey again

We went for Sunday Lunch after reading the great reviews. We were surprised when we arrived as it is tucked away in Filey. It looked small inside and we were thinking where will we sit? They have a bright dining area at the back which isn't grand but spotlessly clean. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Best of all was the food. Lovely home cooked food and plenty of it! All 4 of us said we couldn't fault our meals. You could tell it was freshly cooked. 2 of us had the roast and the vegetables were perfect. A sure sign it had not been sitting around. Would recommend.

Really great Pub, good selection of beers! Only downfall was that he rude obnoxious bar maid, passive aggressive in her attitude, simply because I asked if she was serving! It looked like she was more interested in gossiping than actually working! My advice get rid! She really brings the overall experience of the pub down!

Delicious homemade food, plenty of choice and reasonably priced. All meals were nicely presented and piping hot. Good sized portions ment we were unable to manage a desert. Definitely worth a visit.

Had a fillet steak cooked to perfection and the gammon was lovely.

We were really impressed with this pub. Booked a table on a Sunday, two kids with us (4&2), we sat in a decorated conservatory in the back and it was quiet, food was such good value and Sunday lunch was brilliant. Kids food came fast, decent service, decent beers. Wasn't sure from the outside whether I had made a good choice with having the kids with us but it was absolutely great.

Brilliant pub with great food.Very clean,service excellent and the food was spot on.The salt and pepper grinders were filled up so was the vinegar might sound like a stupid thing to comment on,but the little things matter,this is a very well run establishment,definitely going again.

Popped in by chance on last day of our trip and omg what a lovely friendly place with amazing food and good quality beers. I would highly recommend to anybody this place is amazing

You can easily underestimate this place in passing. We gave it a try around a year ago, driving into the small rear carpark. It was around teatime on a Sunday, we were lucky i guess, to find it pretty quiet inside upon being seated in the main front part of the pub. Nice, warm welcome, well decored throughout, not too old, not too modern. As two adults with three young children, they accomodated our needs well. Set menu is great. Our food was delicious. Best fish pie. Good selection of ales and drinks from the bar. Really good staff here, chef is the star. Been again since, midday meal, again delicious. Seated this time in the back conservatory part. Another place to be proud of in beautiful Filey.

Fab pub and food. The crab and lobster starter was delicious. Great steak pie, Hunters Chicken was really tasty. Good beers and gins selection. Has a beer garden at the back. Can sit under shelter at front with dogs.

Love The Star, our local away from our local...Just popped in for drinks.. always a good selection of pumps ..staff are great.. didn't have any food this time around.. still no dogs allowed inside 😞 but decent seating outside 😎👍

Met up with family and sat outside as they had their dog with them. Ordered two lots of crab sandwiches - absolutely gorgeous! 3 chicken wraps and a soup. Everything was lovely! Everyone was happy with their food. We will definitely return soon!

The food at The star is beautiful. We ate there two nights out of a 4 night trip. We would definitely return and recommend.

We held Dad's wake here. Lyn, the landlady, took care of everything which made it so much easier for us at such a difficult time. Everyone, without exception, said how superb the food was. The pub was the perfect setting for our get-together with family and friends and much happy reminiscing was done. Thank you so much Lyn for all your efforts on our behalf.

Went in mid week on a windy out of season night for some good old pub grub. We were not disappointed 😎. A pub with some wonderful ales , a great bartender and filling food.

We popped in for lunch and a drink on our way home after a day trip to Filey. What a lovely warm welcome from the staff. I had the fish goujon sandwich with chips and my partner had the chicken and mushroom pie. The food was freshly prepared, piping hot and delicious. The place itself was spotlessly clean. We will definitely be returning customers and highly recommend.

A nice pub with good atmosphere and very good food. I had the steak and ale pie which was very tasty and my wife had the pulled beef baguette which she said was very nice. Good portion sizes at a good price.

Just had a weekend in Filey,3 meals out including Trip Advisor top call,this was the best,young staff in restaurant were top notch,attentive without overbearing,food very good and drink selection could not be faulted

Took me right back to my mums cooking. Tasty, hot food and plenty of it. An absolute find which will become a fixture on future trips to Filey.

Came here for food with my partner and little lad. The food was absolutely amazing. I got a steak and ale pie, my partner got chicken and mushroom pie and we both said that they were the best pies we have ever had. I liked that they didn't come out with the food, 2 minutes after ordering. Just beautiful homemade food. Brilliant Ales on tap too!!! . Can't wait for our next trip to Filey. Will definitely stop off here again.

Good food freshly made and a good selection of beers. Recommend the Theakstons bitter. Ask for the electric pump unless you want hand pulled ale, I found it tasted better and kept its head more.

Had the most amazing steak and ale pie here! Food is absolutely fantastic! Children's meal was a really good sized portion as well. Great service, lovely staff. Beautiful pub. There is a restaurant part if you don't want to sit in the bar area, but we sat in the bar area and watched the sports. Great atmosphere. Really lovely. Would definitely recommend it if you're in the area.

We visited The Star on Tuesday 29th August for my mother-in-law's birthday. I was a little apprehensive as we approached as the outside looked more like a pub than a restaurant and we'd wanted something a bit nicer for a birthday meal, but with options for the kids. We ate in the restaurant area at the back of the pub, which wasn't elaborately decorated but had a nautical theme, which is what you want when you visit the seaside and was very clean. The food was delicious! I had the lamb shank which was tender and flavoursome. My husband ordered the seabass which arrived with 4 huge chilli prawns on which I also tried, they were so good! And my husband said the seabass itself was equally as tasty. Our party also had the fishpie which was packed full of prawns and fish chunks and the belly pork which was a special of the day. All the food was so tasty, good portion sizes and you could tell it was freshly home cooked. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Would definitely go back here again. Never judge a book by its cover!

Our first visit here and a great experience. Been coming to Filey for 16 consecutive years and always on the look out for different places to eat out. Booked at table at The Star after reading good reviews. Nice dining room at rear of pub. Friendly welcome, great service, great food- highly recommend the steak pudding, amazing and very filling! Reasonably priced and all home cooked food. All staff very attentive and will certainly be looking to book here again on next year's holiday. Thank you!

Well here we go for another honest review say it as it is. Sat here having a few drinks, landlady and landlord had a barny at end of bar. Few choice words exchanged, she ordered a drink & didn't pay for it! A lady came in and was told if you have a dog you have to sit outside, fair enough but there are ways to say things. Pick your words carefully before you speak to people & always remember it's nice to be nice, even if you don't mean it especially if you are public facing.

Lovely clean pub. Good beers and wine before our meal. The chef is very good and talented. My chilli king prawn spaghetti was beautiful. Loads of prawns just enough chilli and not over faced with portion size. Steak pudding with home cooked chips was delicious. Well done the staff at the Star, lovely evening.

Everything just average Wouldn't rush back but wouldn't avoid either.

What a brilliant night out we had here. IF you want it all come here, the service and staff are so pleasant and happy, which makes for a good night in itself. VERY CLEAN especially the toilets very important especially for the ladies. Thankyou whoever has that task...The food was spot on, had a fillet (rare) and it was, the onion rings were to die for would have had a bucketful if I had known ha ha. leave room for a pudding 🍰 that's all I am saying.. .

My wife, the dog and me visited today, we had the scampi and the best steak pudding I’ve ever had! We ate in the lovely covered beer garden at the back of the pub, very friendly staff and excellent service, great value for money, I would highly recommend a visit, will definitely be going again next time we’re in Filey, stu and Lin Bailey!

Amazing food really large portions and great quality.

Found this place by accident, and I'm glad that we did. Home made steak pudding with chips and a gravy so rich in meat juices as to be almost a meal in itself. Washed down with a hand pulled pint of Theakstons. Pure pleasure.

Used to like it here but the barman this week was rude and unpleasant, same guy on two consecutive evenings. Why go there when all the other pubs in Filey are so welcoming?

Smug "WE'RE FULL" early in the evening as the place looked deserted was not endearing. Went next door to La Gondola. Very welcoming and lovely food. In answer to The Star's reply we were not so upset about the fact that you couldn't fit us in but by the unfriendly/smug way this information was delivered while we were purchasing drinks.

We stopped in for lunch and a few drinks. The staff were very attentive and catered well for my boy who has an allergy. Wouldn't hesitate to pop in for another visit.

Stopped in as we know they sell Black Sheep Special. Had some food and OMG the Steak & Ale pie was the best 👌 Will definitely eat here again

A friendly town centre pub , with a large beer garden with a BBQ and bar in fine weather - a good selection of real ales , wine and spirits - a good menu of Pub Grub with a selection of fresh fish dishes when available

The food we had for lunch was good. Chicken and Mushroom pie, fish goujons sandwich. Nice drop of beer. Good tunes being played. Service also good and friendly. Place is so clean, carpet, chairs, benches, tables, toilets. Best of all "NO DOGS". Would return

Very clean & tidy bar lots of different beer quite expensive & no dog area in side the pub only can bring dogs in the garden which is beautiful

A group of friends and I had a great Friday night at the Star, at the start of our holiday weekend in Filey recently. Nice unpretentious pub, good music and wide choice of beers. The barman Owen was friendly and helpful with information about local facilities, and he put on some of our favourite music selections later in the evening. We went back there on Saturday lunchtime and Sunday evening.

What a hidden gem this place is! We nipped in for a spot of lunch and I can honestly say it has to be some of the best pub grub I’ve had! Top quality a good selection of drinks and friendly staff! I will definitely be going again next time I’m in Filey!

Nice room inside. Lots of ales available. Staff were welcoming and polite. It has a good beer garden. Well maintained and managed. Didn't have time to eat there. Will be back👍.
