I live in Nottingham, so good fish and chips is hard to come by, in fact I have not had a good fish in years despite loving the meal and getting one every 2-3 months. HOWEVER I have now just had Quayside fish and it was amazing. This is what I had been longing for for so long. Chips were good, but the fish was amazing and I tried the Irish curry sauce which is delicious! I recommend this restaurant (we ate in) and be sure to get the fish. My husband had a fishcake which was also very good.

Been here many times over the last few years on our annual visit to Whitby. Always consistently good. Queue is never that long despite it being busy. Surprises me that the magpie has longer queues yet oy been there once and it wasn't that good. Quayside deserves its awards. Today we had cod and chips three times and cheesy chips. Very tasty and hot.

Booked the Quayside Saturday night for Whitby fish and chips. Originally wanted upstairs window table ,however on arrival opted for downstairs as upper level resembled Stringfellows night club. The food and service were very good, however we sat at the bottom of the restaurant..adjacent to the kitchen hence all the shouting and balling from the kitchen staff could be heard clearly throughout dinner. However we would definitely return and recommend but chose your table AWAY from the glass partition of kitchen.

But in terms of the gelato having travelled from the bottom to the top of Italy enjoying over 70 different artisanal Gelaterias the gelato here is simply wonderful and the best you will find in the UK. Tonight, I brought my family of 5 to try a fish and chip restaurant for the first time. The food was okay, but the service was not good. Firstly, I asked for a straw for my children's drinks, but they never gave me them, and I had to go to the bar myself. Secondly, I ordered 2 pieces of white bread, but I thought they would be toasted, which they weren't, so I returned them to the counter. The waitress told me that the bread is never toasted in a fish and chip restaurant with a very bad attitude, even thought it was my first time trying a fish and chip restaurant, and I wasn't aware. The waitress never mentioned this to me when I ordered. Her attitude to me was very poor, which might have been because we didn't tip the 5% suggested on the bill.

A few days ago we went at lunch time for a takeaway to eat on the beach. Very expensive but considering how recommended Quayside was, and all the awards they've won, we thought it would be a treat. Unfortunately it was disappointing and one of us got food poisoning. When we unpacked the bag, one of the boxes was covered in oil, so much I had to put a towel on my lap to put it on. The fish was lovely, and amazing that they cater for gluten free, it's the only redeeming part of the lunch. The chips had absorbed a lot of that oil/grease so I ended up leaving a lot. My partner who isn't gluten intolerant had the regular batter. He had a battered sausage and chips and the batter on his sausage was soft and very greasy, to the point you could squish it, and as we found out a few hours later, it wasn't right as he's had food poisoning from it ever since. Overall would not recommend and didn't live up to the hype.

Pleasant restaurant in the harbour with good service. Seating available indoors & outdoors. Takeaway also available. I ordered scampi and chips, my friend had the cod and chips. Perfectly cooked seafood with a crispy batter. We ate outside and the seagulls didn't attack until we'd left the table and gone indoors to pay. I recommend sitting outside on a weekday when there isn't much traffic. You're just across the street from the river mouth leading to the sea. Fresh sea air makes your fish and chips even more delicious.

We ate here after my wife wanted to try the Lemon Sole (which they later didn't have, after ordering it). We are a family of 4 (4yo and 6yo). Our children had kids meals and we both had fish and chips. The bill came to £62...yes - £62 for fish and chips for a small family (just a pot of tea and glass of water for drinks). The fish was soggy on the bottom and insufficiently drained. The quality was middle-of-the-road. Putting 2lb of chips on a plate doesn't make up for the high price tag. We didn't leave hungry, but were incredibly disappointed by the price, especially nearly £10 for kids meals. We knew it was expensive from the menu - but we didn't receive quality to the price point. This simple price gouging is not on, especially for kids meals. We wish we'd gone elsewhere and this is a shame as the restaurant is lovely inside.

The Good The fish and chips. Let's not overcomplicate things. You want a good representation of proper Whitby fish and chips and you'll find it here. Local people all have their favourites and end up being loyal to one, but there are a clutch of top-tier fish and chips in the town, and Quayside is one of them. If you see a long line at Magpie just forget it, they won't offer anything that Quayside can't also provide. The location is stunning, with views across to the Abbey. The Bad "Bad" isn't right, Quayside is a good choice. We dined in. Service was ok, if a little impersonal, and it took a long time to get the bill. But this is a tourist hotspot with lots of covers, so we can cut them some slack, and we're not expecting fine-dining levels of service when ordering fish and chips. Top Tip If you desire no skin on the fish, then order the cod. The haddock is skin-on, but (to me) the better choice.

Very friendly pub, gluten free beer and food options. We had lunch of steak pudding and a gluten free gammon, accompanied by tasty chips and sides . Friendly staff and customers.

We called in for lunch as we liked the look of the restaurant from the outside. My husband was also tempted by the quiche listed on the menu board outside but unfortunately this was crossed off the menu inside. He was more than happy however with the pie and mash he had instead and I was most impressed with the fish and chips. The fish was absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend it and would eat here again. The service was top notch too.

We were walking through Scarborough as part of our hike along the Cleveland Way and after walking past the Beach Huts in North, heading towards South Bay, we were on the lookout for somewhere to grab a quick meal. Everywhere seemed crazy busy, but luckily we found this place without a queue - possibly now I understand why no queue though as just wasn't great. My husband's small fish was huge! but he didn't enjoy so ate less than half. My battered sausage and chips was good/average quality, but the sausage was teeny! Still, we ate enough to fill our bellies so we could continue on our walk.

If you like lumpy mashed potato, tasteless veg and watery gravy, you will like this place. I have never seen a more sorry looking carvery in my life.
