The best fish and chips. Fresh fish. Crispy batter. Nice beers. Good service. Been here three years in a row and has never disappointed.

The Golden Grid looks like a charmingly authentic harbour front fish and chips shop. On further experience it becomes more faded, jaded and old fashioned. Portion size was decent enough. The fish batter was light and bubbly, the fish was flaky. The fish pie was superheated and largely lacking in... fish. Surrounded by a moat of overcooked peas that reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. She hated peas and made them suffer for at least an hour on the job ;-) The mushy peas were worse. Overcooked, brown in places and not at all to my taste. Service: someone took our order and money, that was about it. I cannot recommend this place apart from the tea. I enjoyed the tea.

The food was incredible and service was brilliant! The Golden Grid is an excellent place to go for a meal! The karen that was here complaining that her group of 2 couldnt sit on a 5 seater table incase a large group came in doesnt know what she missed! Only downside about the experience was the circus trucks outside blaring darude sandstorm most of the time.

Really good portion sizes, all the food was cooked well (unlike many places that don't cook the chips or fish long enough for good crispy chips). Service was efficient, friendly and polite.

Excellent restaurant.we came in here on a hot Sunday and didn't expect to get a table as Scarborough was packed but got a table no problem.the restaurant is on 3 floors so there's plenty of room if you can manage the stairs and the food was amazing but a little pricey.we both got fish,chips and peas and had 2 coffees each which came to £52.00..i would definitely go back tho as the food was excellent as were all the staff

GG was recommended by the staff of the castle and we don't regret choosing this as our lunch destination from a million chip shops in a sea-side city on a stormy day! Fresh food, the restaurant takes advantage of being located by the harbour. We were pre-settled to taste their fish 'n chips and totally missed the fish cake and lobster dishes. However, the batter fried calamari was brilliant as well. The chips felt a bit soggy and burnt, but hey it's ok. The medium fish we ordered was quite large in reality! Haddocks/cods are accompanied by green peas/mushy peas/beans/gravy/curry sauce. Salt and pepper pots need to be cleaned as they remained clogged. You won't find the tarter sauce on the menu, but yes, they will come upon request. The ambience will make you time travel to a '90s vintage busy eatery with all the wooden furniture and paintings. The service won't let you occupy a preferable sea-view window table if you are not more than four persons. The service was pleasant though. We stayed here for about a couple of hours, spent a brilliant family time as other families with kids and friends were around as well. Should have taken a lobster damn it. I wonder if they had soup of the day.

I had small meal which was ample chips were a bit greasy

Visited this evening. The food was poor. Lobster was rubbery and chewy the sausages were dried up and the chips were lukewarm and soggy. The service was so slow we gave up waiting for dessert. The kitchen staff were clearly too busy watching the football and the noise and foul language coming from the kitchen was frightening our children. Maybe you would be better closing your business when the football is on instead of taking money under false pretences.

Fantastic fish and chips went back a second night to have the fish pie

We ordered the half a garlic lobster and chowder with a sharing starter platter, they did bring everything out together not staggered as starters and mains but I honestly didn't mind this. Everything was cooked perfectly loved the flavours of the chowder and lobster. I would say the layers of lettuce under the whitebait, scampi and calamari starter was a little unnecessary as it was accompanied with a salad. Great establishment enjoyed the aesthetic (even if a little dated really added to the charm I love the Fish painting). Big fan that the menu and prices are available online so I could see what they offered, would definitely go again.

Fish and chips were top quality. Exactly what you expect from a seaside restaurant. Lobster was available also.

Lovely fresh fish and chips on the shore at Scarborough but the dining experience itself was disappointing. One member of the serving staff was engaged and attentive with customers but the others were barely present and didn't make any effort at all. Even on paying there were no pleasantries. Won't be rushing back!

Very nice Haddock here, the batter was thin and crispy and the fish succulent and not over cooked.

Cod had skin on , crab salad very poor. No toilets downstairs (including disabled) had to go across the road to public toilets. Staff very friendly. Not good value for the money. Would not go again

Food was pretty average, the price less so, quite expensive for what you get and the quality. Chips were akin to takeaway, and rest of food was okay. Servers/staff pleasant enough!

Had home cooked pie,it was lovely loads of meat.

Dirty cutlery and crockery. Carpet caked in old chips. Expensive for what you get. Wouldn't return.

Wife and I visited on Thursday may 30th first time here service ok quite busy for early evening wife ordered the halloumi burger I had haddock and chips with peas wife enjoyed burger but her chips like mine were only lukewarm and limp fish was ok but overall meal was disappointing would not visit again as the lifeboat is just around the corner several classes above this fayre

Best fish and chips EVER, went here twice in a 5 day trip to Scarborough, both visits just as good as each other.

Amazing staff and the food is perfect

Food slightly above average as they accommodated the grilled fish,nice chips lovely latte. 2 out of 3 staff were great,good at their jobs but one member of staff clearly unhappy about being their and really spoilt the meal.

Given the food a four star rating as I’m sure it was nice…the menus looked night anyway! However myself as a party of 12 turned up on Saturday and asked if there was space for us to eat. Obviously being a large party we would more than understood if there wasn’t enough room for us. However we was told yes come in and shown to different tables. Which was more than okay as again we understand we was a large table. We all looked at the menus that were handed to us and settled on fish finger sandwiches with chips and large lemonades…. To be told we weren’t spending enough money on what we had ordered and wasn’t welcome…..we would only be served if we ordered more expensive items from the menu! The price was never the issue it was the amount of food that we would have been served and non of us on a day out at the seaside wanted plate fulls of food as a lunch! We quickly left and went to McDonald’s. (lol) obviously 12 people eating and drinking wasn’t enough money for this establishment!!

We ordered 2 all day breakfasts which we didnt think much of,there was half a plate of beans tipped over the one sausage and 2 slices of bacon and a small egg with a goey hash brown,the fried bread was just bread that had been dipped in fat,sausage and blackpudding was ok but everything else was disapointing especially when it cost £35 for 2 breakfasts a cup of tea and a latte

Visited for dinner on a Monday evening, and it was quiet inside with just a few tables occupied. I ordered the small haddock and my husband had the regular cod. My haddock was much tastier than the cod, which makes sense given that’s the local speciality on the Yorkshire coast. The small was plenty for me and the chips were really good. The service was a little lack lustre but the food made up for it

I had lunch here yesterday. Ordered a medium haddock and chips, was given cod with no explaination, I assume it was an error. Whether I had haddock or cod didn't bother me but the fish was thin and the chips were absolutely awful. They were hard and pretty inedible. I've eaten here before and it was average but after this experience I won't return.

We called here for tea on our weekend away and I must say the food was amazing nothing was to much trouble see u again soon

Nice place on the seafront, good choice of menu but went for the fish and chip option. Dog friendly and plenty of seating. One in the bank for next visit.

Fish was all batter and staff were not as polite, courteous and pleasant as would be expected. The mature waitress gave the impression that she was fed up of her job and day! The restaurant downstairs just looked tired Disappointed

Popped in to get some lunch, ordered cod and chips (medium size). Cod was lovely and flakey, batter was light and crunchy. The chips were fluffy and thick. Service was good, didn't have to wait too long, but they were busy (not surprising). Atmosphere was very relaxing and chilled. Price was very reasonable for the food. Glad I had medium size portion, filled me up just right. Unless you have big appetite go for the large portion. Definitely recommend.

Utterly deplorable, asked for a table for 2 was told "just sit over there" a given a loose direction to go ... so we found our own table and after 10 minutes of waiting without being aknowleged at all and listening to the waitress berate other customers with comments like "we ant got no lobster, dont you know its out of season" and the couple beside us complaining about the quality ofvthe food (they had both had more than half of their meal uneaten) we decidef to get up leave ... spent £90 across the road at Lookout On The Pier .... where the food and service was excellent.

Had fish and chips and chicken burger really fantastic food normally very fussy but i would definitely return here. Staff lovely pleasant and welcoming.

Really lovely Gem, the food was lovely, very accommodating about food difficulties and the best gravy I've tasted out anywhere for years. Ohhh and the Amaretto pudding was just great.

We were tempted in by the promise of a seafood chowder which is a rare find on most menus. It didn't live up to expectation - it was expensive, bland and consisted of only one type of fish and spoiled by uncooked grated carrot. A bit of garlic or a few herbs would have made all the difference. Disappointing for a specialist seafood restaurant.

Unfortunately read reviews after we'd ordered. One said tourist trap - avoid Another said expensive canned food Both very accurate. "kwik save" scampi "really good fish pie" unsure how they conjured that title with frozen cheap uniformly cubed "fish" Throw a couple of sparkling waters in and a grand total of 35 squids! Really really disappointed being so close to wonderful fresh catches.

Ok fish and chips nothing to rave about and small portions for the price

Probably one of the best fish n chip restaurants we've been to in some time! The service was great, very friendly! The atmosphere was welcoming and full of character! The food, the batter was perfectly light which was the cherry on the cake for me! My Mum had the soup which she believes was a spicy tomato, possibly pepper too. Highly recommend if you happen to be in the area!

Never been to this restaurant before but have passed it dozens of times over the years. We were heading for an adjacent fish and chip shop but it was shut. Decided to call in here instead. Very pleasant waiting staff and order was taken promptly. Food was cooked to order and arrived piping hot. I opted for bread and butter and would have preferred brown bread but no worries. Hubby chose mushy peas. (Must admit this was a surprise because where we come from if you eat in for fish and chips you get both bread and butter and peas along with a pot of tea included in the price) As we ate the restaurant thinned out a bit and staff were very diligent in clearing and wiping tables. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals and guess we have found a new place to dine next time we are in Scarborough.

Awful place. An empty restaurant and I waited for 40 mins to be served. Meal was adequate. Overpriced and small. A bit scruffy, no attention to detail and grubby. Carpet needs a good clean and it needs a general spruce up. Absolutely no atmosphere and felt in the way.

Been here lots of times in the past and it's been fine. This time when I went the staff were verging on rude. The food was OK at best. There are lots of places to eat in Scarborough, do yourself a favor and go to one of those.

Beware of 'hidden' costs ! Ordered Meal Deal (£15.95) and small Fish & Chips (£8.95) Ended up paying £27.85 instead of £24.90 Apparently it was for the 1 pot of tea that was supposed to be included !! Food can best be described as average, staff rather apathetic and decor dated. Will not be coming here ever again as there are far better restaurants in this area. NOT Disabled friendly !!

Despite being short staffed when we called in on Christmas eve, the serving staff were all still friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious.

Would highly recommend. The Fish was delicious. The staff were friendly and efficient. Reasonable priced. Excellent view as we were lucky enough to be sitting by the window.

In dire need of a clean, some new tables and chairs and a lick of paint! The staff were very good and the service was prompt, however, the food was very poor. Heavily overpriced and tasteless with no care for presentation. I think this place is running on its past reputation and only survives due to tourists visiting once in summer and never returning! There are far better places to eat seafood in Scarborough, I prefer The Lookout on The Pier.

Without a doubt the most disgusting food we've ever eaten in a restaurant. We ordered fish pie which arrived covered in wet soggy mash with a small layer of 'fish' in the bottom. It was accompanied by TINNED PEAS! The Eton Mess dessert was served in tall plastic 'glasses' and consisted of frozen or tinned Strawberries (couldn't tell as they were so soggy) and topped with dream topping. For the prices they charged us this food was a joke and an insult. Avoid.

The service was on par, as well as how tasty the food was. Quality fish in both an excellent starter and mains that we chose. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making us enjoy just how delicious the food was even more. Will be coming here again!

Popped in last week and had an amazing meal starting with warm oysters which were sensational!! Followed by cod and chips which were so tasty! Daisy and Lou were simply wonderful, thank you both so much and we would love to return one day. Daisy, good luck with your degree, live that dream!!

We visited the restaurant yesterday, 3 adults and our dog. We were made very welcome and the atmosphere was very relaxing. We all ordered fish and chips, 2 had haddock, one cod . The service was excellent and when the food arrived, portions were more than generous. All meals were cooked perfectly and listening to others in the restaurant other people were happy too . Thanks to the staff for their happy attitudes, will definitely be back.

Food lovely. Fresh and staff was lovely. However I cannot believe in 2023 they don't have a disabled/accessible toilet Down stairs . Infact toilet are upstairs.

Had the scallops queenies in garlic and cream, beautiful, wife had the fish pie. Quick service considering how many people were in. Will definitely come again.

This is not a swanky, fancy fish restaurant, it is an old school fish and chip cafe with delicious food and great service in a no frills 'but why do you need them' environment. We chose the small portion which is not mentioned on the menu, but is bargainous with more than enough food. It was very busy even outside the main lunch rush times and it is surrounded by the competition so you know it is a favourite of tourists and locals and rightly so.

Right on the front close to the harbour. Had a lovely table. Service was spot on too. Generous food portions but the fish pie should come with a health warning. It was served so hot it burnt my mouth and basically ruined my meal. My wife's meal was extremely good and she thoroughly enjoyed her Queenie's. I would recommend this plaice (🙈) but if you have the fish pie you have been warned.

Amazing seafood restaurants right opposite the harbour. Very fresh seafood, decent price and portion, and it's very tasty.

First impression were good seated quickly and nice pot of tea, after that it was downhill from there, special fish & chips ordered with pot of tea, food arrived and was pretty seagull mostly batter on the fish without the batter the fish was almost see through, tough & chewy! left most of it and went to pay, we were asked if it was all ok so said as it was, would not eat here again due to state of meal and nothing said in return other than sorry, no explanation, just took the money £29:00. My advice would be we all have different expectations try it but don’t wait to the end of meal, try fish if not happy day so straight away. We’ll not be visiting again any time soon.

My husband and I went here while on holiday and were really looking forward to fish and chips. What a big disappointment. We wanted fish not batter!!! Over priced and a totally under whelming experience. Would not recommend it to anyone. Having said that the young lady who served us was very pleasant and the food is not her fault.

Would not recommend this restaurant at all. With it being a Monday night there wasn’t a lot of choice of where to go. When we arrived the table wasn’t cleared and this took a while. We ordered cod and got haadock the peas was lukewarm and the chips was vile they tasted like frozen chips that had been fried more than once. The only decent thing about the whole experience was the Yorkshire tea. This is not a cheap restaurant either I would not recommend eating here at all. The staff was uninterested when we said we was unhappy. Very disappointing experience to say the least.

Nel pesce il 40% era la panatura, il fritto era estremamente unto, dulcis un fundo, le patatine servite con il pesce erano mosce, sembravano scaldate al microonde. Mai mangiato un fish and chips peggiore

Not all that ,had to ask for more chips as there was only 8 chips on my plate ,and when they brought me some more out they were greesey.

The staff were really nice here, it's just the food didn't seem fresh and more so tasted like it was just refried.

Visited the restaurant twice within my stay in Scarborough. Nice friendly staff, clean and tidy restaurant. You can sit downstairs or upstairs depending on what your looking for. 1st time i had the fish and chips deal that included bread and butter and tea, the fish was cooked to perfection in a nice light batter. You can get peas as well if you wish. On the second visit we sat upstairs and looked out to the sea, we had stake pie and chips this was just as lovely as the fish . Also had warm chocolate fudge cake with Ice cream and tea, the chocolate fudge cake was warm and very nice. If your in the Scarborough area its worth a visit. When your finished you just ask for the bill and pat at the front door when your leaving.
