What a fabulous place this is! Perfect wedding venue. Parking great and from the moment we walked in it felt relaxed. All the staff are so lovely and nothing was ever too much trouble. Sammie the bar manager is a legend. Lorraine the breakfast lady is a hoot! The rooms are very spacious and were more than adequate for a two night stay. The place runs like clockwork but keeps an air of tranquility. The grounds are stunning and over the lake was the open air lodge where the ceremony takes place, decorated with lights. All in all a perfect place…. Thank you

Firstly may I say the dining room looked lovely and was well decorated. A few points that we thought let things down for us. 1. Coats put on back of chairs. No advice of where else to put them. 2. No one asked whether we wanted any drinks could only assume we had to leave table to order at the bar. 3. Beef dinner was extremely greasy and not very hot. See pic showing fatty watery gravy, limp carrot and parsnip and hidden beneath was only 1 sprout. 4. Each course was served very quickly with no gap. It felt a bit rushed. Plates removed before one guest had finished eating. 5. At no stage did anyone ask if meal was ok. No extra gravy offered however we would not have wanted any more due to poor quality. 6. Desserts very poor in presentation. See pic. It was supposed to be chocolate cherry tart with rum cream. Never saw any cream! 7. Cheese board was plentiful however cheese was dried out and gingerbread also dry and tasteless. 8. No one asked if we wanted coffee, shame it was not included in price with mince pies as most other venues do. 9. We left disappointed without anyone even noticing our departure. Overall it was below average, for a special day you do expect better. We dined there last Christmas and it was lovely. Prior to posting on here I sent two emails to the hotel expressing my disappointment however have not so much as received an acknowledgement.

Plenty of choice and good value, but a bar meal would have sufficed for us. Could not see a bar meal menu so opted to eat in the restaurant. There was only one other table occupied and we felt a little lost in such an empty space. Not much atmosphere, but not the hotel's fault it was empty. Bar was reasonably busy, wish we could have eaten there instead.

Hackness Grange is an old country house hotel which is well maintained ,tastefully furnished and set in a beautiful location with a lake in front of it The allocated room was also well maintained but very cold. The breakfasts are very good but no menu and quite basic. The food was excellently presented and of good quality. What is not to like? Misleading information about the access to the entire location. We booked a disability room and stressed the necessity of it on the phone to Jules who told us we would be well looked after. THERE IS ONLY ONE ROOM WITH DISABLED ACCESS IN THE HOTEL. As it was already occupied we were given a family room - very nice if you are able bodied. I am in a wheelchair which says I am not. There were no facilities whatsoever in this room -- no grab handles or shower seat, no toilet bars only a non slip mat which is of no use if you cannot stand. My husband had a lot of things to do for me which is why a room with facilities is necessary and the sole reason we chose Hackness Grange. There is no access to the lake for me and steps everywhere. Not the stay we had anticipated! On arrival in the carpark we were greeted by a gentleman who informed us that the restaurant was closed because both chefs had phoned in sick!! He told us the nearest place for a meal was a pub - 15 minutes drive away. We will not be revisiting this hotel again and I would suggest the staff inform prospective visitors of there only being one room with disability needs.

Booked afternoon tea for four of us including my 84 year old father as a treat. we booked for 3.30 but when it finally arrived the waiter admitted it had been in the fridge a while which I apprecaite as the weather was hot, however everything was dry and hard and we bearly ate anything. Very disapointing as my father was so looking forward to it. It's a lovely pictuesque place but this in my oppinion has let it down. I thought it would have been made fresh how long can it take to put a few sandwiches together?

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at the Derwent restaurant whilst staying at Hackness Grange hotel and what a wonderful surprise it was delicious food with a modern twist at very reasonable prices. Smart country house setting, attentive staff, talented chef and prices that do not make you quake in your shoes. A must for anyone that enjoys really good food.

Went for Sunday lunch with family. The food was ok and most of the family enjoyed the visit. Sadly I have to say the waiting on staff need to make a more of an effort with how they look as they looked quite scruffy. Also the hotel could do with a good clean as well.

Met some friends here for lunch. Hackness Grange has changed many times over the years and is looking a bit tired again. Because of its location it is not going to attract many passing customers. Our lunch was tasty, two of us opting for sandwiches and two choosing burgers. The best thing about the meal was the chips which were large and crunchy with delicate middle! We had a very long time to wait considering we were the only people in the lounge when we arrived, but a large party of ladies soon arrived who were eating in the dining room. There is a fabulous room at the back for weddings etc. and the view from this room is lovely across the gardens to the river. Worth looking at I would have thought if you are considering a country wedding venue. First visited this hotel over 50 years ago when it was a small family run business.

We chose to eat at the hotel when we stayed there recently. We were not sure what to expect as there was a wedding on in the hotel. We were very pleased with the meals we chose (two courses) and the prices were good value. We had a bottle of wine that was so good (and good value) that I have made a note to seek some out from a wine merchant. Would not hesitate to recommend the restaurant even if you are not a resident.

Can I start by saying I am no snob. I have stayed in awful accommodation all around the world as well as fabulous accommodation. I also reflect the cost of what i pay in relation to what i expect to receive and this is a very important point.!! The Hackness Grange is without question and for the money, the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in. Where do I start ? The cost per night is around £160.00 Well for that kind of money I would expect everything to be pretty much perfect. I have stayed at better B&B's than this. As we arrived in the evening after a 3 hour drive we were greeted by the hotel manager who could not find our booking. We were kept waiting on the reception for at least 15 minutes whislt he frantically looked at his computer. After 10 minutes of me standing there huffing and puffing and holding my luggage and bags he asked us to take a seat in the lounge. Eventually he found our "room". We opened the door to our room and was greeted by flies and other interesting insects. There is an outdoor light right next to the entry to the living accommodation so this attracts the flies. At first when you walk into the room it looks modern, large and inviting. When you take your shoes and socks off you then start to feel your feet sticking to a purple dirty carpet ( which has never seen a drop of shampoo in its life) The duvet was pulled back and the sheets were marked and creased. The beds were to be fair, large and the mattress very comfortable. In the morning we went for a shower; what could go wrong? It was cold and the flow rate was rediculous I was later told that the switch had tripped in the night as other people had complained. On the second morning the same thing, a warm shower but this time was told it was the thermostat. Could anything anything else go wrong? Yes! After a comfortable night in a very comfortable bed I was now looking forward to my £160.00 worth of breakfast. This was truly shocking. On the first morning there was bacon, sausage and black pudding put in a silver latrine. There was scrambled eggs in another. No beans or mushrooms. There was a table with the small boxed cereals. There was no sliced cheeses or sliced ham etc... no fresh fruit The dried fruit was covered in flies and the hotel in general have flies in most of the rooms, this is a real problem. I ellected to have toast and coffee; that was my breakfast! On the second day for breakfast they brought out a bowl of chopped watermelon but when I observed the two flies doing backstroke in the juices I decided to give it a miss. The food is not covered at all. I was then informed by one of the guests that they had asked the kitchen for more scrambled eggs as the ones that had been lying there has gone cold and a green colour. Things were soooo bad that I actually took the Manager to my room and pointed out to him all the issues. I also failed to mention the air conditioning that we put on in the evening. That night we heard drip drip drip. In the morning the wooden table was covered in water. When I asked the manager if he had ever encountered this problem before he said "nobody normally turns on the air conditioning" Lets look at the positive's: 1. Large room with comfortable mattress. 2. The staff are fabulous, very pleasent and helpful. This is only my opinion but they look overworked and short staffed. 3. Amazing location and views. When I complained to the manager he said "Your right" and duly reduced my final bill accordingly for the reasons I have outlined. Sorry but thats it!! The rest is up to you.

We went to the restaurant for Christmas Lunch. Beautiful building and setting in the Yorkshire moors. Fantastic choice offered in starters, main and desserts. How pleasant to find a restaurant at Christmas lunch where people were not crowded into a small space, had to be seated by a certain time, food sent out in batches as though on a conveyor belt system and had to leave by a certain time before the next seating was due to arrive!!! We could choose the time we wanted to eat and had very personal service and were welcome to stay and enjoy the meal to the full extent. Full marks and congratulations to the management & staff for the best Christmas lunch I have eaten in a restaurant.

Arrived at the Hackness Grange Hotel lunchtime on July 11th just as 4 people were leaving enquiring after a light lunch we were told that no food is served during the week only weekends. The 4 people who were leaving ahead of us we met up with in the car park it appeared that they also had required a light lunch, two separate couples and ourselves a Threesome, seven people turned away in a 5 minute period, what kind of a hotel is this, surely it's not beyond a staff member to produce a decent sandwich doesn't need a chef and its not exactly rocket science.

Firstly, we used a 'Travelzoo' voucher, making the meal about 1/2 price, and therefore very good value. However, on first calling, I tried to book a table for 4, explaining that another couple accompanying us had a 'Gourmet Society' card; but, I was told that 'Gourmet Society' had not been accepted since the 'takeover' last year. (Even though Hackness Grange is still live on that site.)I said that I would get back to them, soon, after consulting. I was told that reception had now closed, and I could leave a message on the answering machine. The other couple are light eaters and would have to pay full price, so they decided not to join us. I duly left a message saying we would only want a table for two. We arrived on a lovely sunny evening at this lovely building, in beautiful surroundings, and were welcomed into the bar, and asked if the other couple would be joining us, as they had reserved a table for 4! The Table-d'hote menu @ £30 per head had limited choice, and surprisingly £6-95 extra for a 6 oz .....Yes, 6 oz sirloin! I chose a tomato and avocado starter, it was 1/2 a beef tomato, 1/2 and avocado with a little dressing; and a lack of imagination. Otherwise the meal was very acceptable in quantity and quality. However, although the staff were courteous and efficient, we didn't see one single smile all evening, and with the limited choice of menu, at the full price of £30 per head, we decided that a return visit is unlikely. Unfortunately there are better restaurants with as good, and better, food; and certainly no more expensive, in the area. I wish the new owners good luck, as they have taken on a massive challenge, and are obviously making headway, but they will have to manage without our custom.

I saw a travel zoo offer for this restaurant and as we were staying nearby booked it. It was half price more or less for the set 3 course menu. We seemed to be driving to the middle of knowhere but what a beautiful setting and worth the drive. We both had chicken and bacon caesar cocktail to start which was delicious, I opted for the gammon with fresh pineapple and my husband chose to pay the additional £8.95 for a 10oz Sirloin we then shared. The steak was cooked to perfection, not easy as we like it blue and we passed on our compliments to the chef. We had pavlova and brulee for dessert and again was not disappointed. The service was good, efficient but not rushed. I would comment that the drinks are a little over priced but enjoyed the experience of making our choices in the bar over a drink, we then ordered and were shown to our table when the starters were ready. We enjoyed our meal and the ambience of the beautiful restaurant however would have been disappointed at the choices if had been required to pay the full price of £30 per head.

We went with our mum's and two vouchers for reduced price 3-course evening meal. This is a lovely place and clearly a lot of work has been carried out on the decor which is nice and traditional. The service was fine. The starters were okay and the cod loin on the main was really good. Unfortunately both mums had the pork fillet and both found it too chewy to finish. Desserts again were fine. I thought the price we paid was right for the meal, but would have been disappointed if we'd paid full price.

Couldn't fault the quantity cost or quality. Ordered from the vegan menu chips curry sauce and pea fritter. Only problem was the food wasn't piping hot surprising since it was cooked to order in a deep fat fryer.
