When staying at the Hotel we chose to eat at the hotel. the food was EXCELLENT and Haley made every effort to making our meals fit to our tastes as well as to my wifes wheat and gluten allergy. We Had the Steak the first night....OMG, lovely and Gammon Steak on the second night. Wonderful tastes. Thank you to Haley and the Cook

Having stayed here for two nights, we could not fault it. We had a room on the first floor, views to die for. The room was lovely too. Ample parking for your car. Very easy to find this hotel. Breakfast was always lovely with all the usual choices. We also ate here for the two evenings. Not a vast choice but the food was delicious and couldn't fault it. Would definitely stay here again

Stayed here twice, prefer the ground floor room at the back - nice and quiet - so quiet we heard the steam train whistle as it passed Sleights.

Having stayed at the hotel, we always have dinner. Food is local and beautifully cooked and presented. Local people do eat at the hotel and assume passing trade.

My friend and i dropped in at Netherby House on Tuesday 2nd of August 2016 at 8.30pm in the evening on speck with no booking hoping to find accommodation for the night after a long days riding & touring the area on our motorcycles, we were very happy to be immediately told that a room was available and within a matter of 10 minutes we were booked in & being shown to our room. The staff and the service were excellent and i would recommend this establishment to anyone. The inclusive breakfast that we had before leaving on Wednesday morning was cooked & served to perfection, 5 star rating in my book

We have stayed here about eight-10 times but the last visit was horrendous. The room was so small with hardly any room to move around the bed. The breakfast was totally burnt and inedible. When I told the lady, her attitude was indifferent and she proceeded to tell me that the owners were on holiday (I think in France) and she said that she had too many problems of her own to bother with mine... I was thoroughly disappointed and the offer of a complimentary night would gave been the only acceptable solution....there was no offer of recompense. We made this hotel our first option, we always went back.....I'm afraid that we will not be returning now. I asked her to explain our problems go the owners on their return and I requested that they get in touch. I have heard nothing from this hotel.....bitterly disappointed

Had 3 special occasions to celebrate recently. Netherby House were most accommodating on each occasion and the food was excellent. Good value for money too. Thank you for making my 50th Birthday a wonderful evening. Never been with young children so unable to give rating for that element.

My daughter treated me to a birthday meal at Netherby House, it was beautifully presented the service was good and the food was delicious. A real treat. The staff are friendly and we didn't feel rushed. We walked through the grounds after the meal, the gardens were impressive and the views spectacular. We will be back thank you Netherby House

We were invited to Netherby House at Sleights by friends and discovered a hidden gem. On our arrival we were very impressed by the appearance, the high standard of the establishment and the welcome we received. The menu gave an excellent choice of dishes, each course was beautifully presented, full of flavours and of a very high quality. Service was 1st class, the owners took the time to make sure we enjoyed our evening nothing seemed to be of any trouble. After our meal the chef introduced himself and we quickly realised he was very passionate about his food. A wonderful evening, well worth the money, our taste buds look forward to our next visit. I have not stayed here but have had Sunday lunch here on a number of occasions. I have always been extremely happy with the lunch served here. However the last time I visited I noticed a change in standards. I don't know whether there's a new chef or something but the portion size had almost halved and the quality of the trimmings was not the same. The yorkshire puddings were burnt and the quantity of meat was not the same. We used to get lots of thin layers of meat but this time there was just one or two slices. I also hate to say the quality of serving staff had dropped! Our waitress was not very neatly presented and wore a top too small for her so unfortunately any movement showed off her midriff! Very disappointing, haven't returned since.

If you like lumpy mashed potato, tasteless veg and watery gravy, you will like this place. I have never seen a more sorry looking carvery in my life.

I can't understand some of the reviews on here. I think people should review things based on reality. This is not Starbucks, Costa or Greggs. It's not Pret, McDonalds or Burger King either. It's a facility within a charity aiming to bring alive an era before these massive organisations had taken over our society. Manned not by highly paid executives rolling out strategy to beat the competition but run on a shoestring by volunteers and a few paid employees who are providing memories for a public who remember station waiting rooms and buffet bars exactly like the Signals cafe. This NOT a commercial operation, it is part of the exhibit of the railway buffet bars of the 40'-60's when a certain Dr Beeching took an axe to the railways which provided links to towns an villages throughout the country. Review it in the context of it's situation. To the women who were on duty when my family of 5 adults and 2 children called, thanks for providing us with the food and drinks which I remember from mainline and local stations operating pre Beeching cuts. It let us pass an hour in the type of buffet which was commonplace in my young days. Also gave me an opportunity to educate my youngsters over the life I used to live in and brought much of what they had just experienced in the steam journey from Whitby. A thorough authentic experience in keeping with the North Yorkshire Railway objectives To other reviewers who were less than appreciative of the reconstruction of the rail experience pre 60's, I suggest you volunteer your time and skills to one of the thousands of charities in the U.K. who are doing their best to serve their local communities. It might just help you come to grips with life and appreciate the work others do to help their fellow human beings.

We were walking through Scarborough as part of our hike along the Cleveland Way and after walking past the Beach Huts in North, heading towards South Bay, we were on the lookout for somewhere to grab a quick meal. Everywhere seemed crazy busy, but luckily we found this place without a queue - possibly now I understand why no queue though as just wasn't great. My husband's small fish was huge! but he didn't enjoy so ate less than half. My battered sausage and chips was good/average quality, but the sausage was teeny! Still, we ate enough to fill our bellies so we could continue on our walk.
