A few days before going the bar to have a meal, I had visited the hotel reception one morning to enquire what was served there on Sundays. The very helpful and pleasant staff member gave me all the information I needed. On the Sunday I went to the bar with my son. Sunday lunch is served from 12 to 3, we arrived around 2.15. We noticed that no one in the bar was eating. There were two staff members at the bar, my son asked if there was a vegetarian option. Neither staff member knew what the option was, they did find out for us, but I would have thought that they would have had the information to hand, especially at that stage of lunchtime. The staff members were helpful, but seemed to be a bit vague about everything! We decided to eat elsewhere.

We are on a short break exploring the Yorkshire coast. We came across the Crescent bar while searching for food on a wet Sunday evening in Scarborough. Good food (we had the Yorkshire sharing platter ) and live music with Just Jad, a singer/guitarist who played a very good set and made for a very enjoyable evening. I suffer from Parkinson’s and had to leave before the end but would like to thank jad for his performance and the Crescent for supporting live music.

We stay in Scarborough frequently but only visited the bar for the first time recently. We called in for a drink on Friday, and the open mic night was on, so decided to stay in and have a bottle of wine. Called in again on Saturday for a drink, and again on Sunday! The bar area is lovely, as are the staff. We ordered three sharing plates for £18, which were delicious and excellent value. Really glad we discovered The Crescent!!

Went for Sunday lunch. Asked if there was a vegetarian option and was told yes. Received a dollop of mash and a dollop of ratatouille type veg, served on a raw mushroom. I asked the waiter if he knew what it was and was told ‘no’. Dreadful.

We have just had a 3 course Sunday lunch at The Crescent both the food and service were excellent. We both had prawn cocktail for starters which came loaded with prawns and followed with sirloin of beef for mains which was served with yorkshire pudding and ample vegetables all perfectly cooked we were so full that my husband couldn’t eat a dessert and I could only manage the crème brûlée without the shortbread biscuit we highly recommend a visit to this restaurant

The food was lovely. However, portion sizes were not. For two people, we received the same amount of veg as a single person (I looked at a single persons portion). The chefs in the kitchen should give vegetables according to the number of orders. I really hope this does get viewed as it the only thing that let it down.

I recently visited this bar for my evening meal whilst on holiday with my dog. The bar was extremely quiet (admittedly it was out of season) and no-one else was eating - perhaps that should have been a warning. I ordered my meal and after 40 minutes the man behind the bar went to chase it up. The meal (chicken curry) was then produced and the quality was akin to a cheap ready meal. Very disappointing.

All very well prepared and tasty, and some interesting vegan options. Never disappointed eating here. A variety of options that are far more interesting than your usual pub fod

We ate in the Crescent Bar twice this weekend and food was fantastic both times. Lovely bar staff, Jenny, Nils & Max made us feel really welcome. We're actually coming to stay at the Crescent in October with our family for my mum's birthday and really looking forward to coming back. If you like Yorkshire Puddings, try the Toad in the Hole - it's like a food challenge - never seen such a big Yorkshire pudding in all my life!!!

Did not stay in the hotel but are one Sunday evening in the restaurant. It was a Sunday roast menu with the crescent's wonderful twist. Yes I had roast chicken but the sauces and presentation raised it to a much higher level. Currently Monday to Friday is their A la Carte menu we have eaten here on those occasions as well, the food is second to none. Positive covid measures in place, excellent service in this family run business, gorgeous food. We spent a couple of hours in the bar area, it felt cosy, warm, lush and very comfortable. My partner and I felt quite jealous that we weren't staying in the hotel, there's always next time. Highly recommend a meal here. Quite central so easy to find, it's a gem.

On arrival greeted by a friendly lady who led us down to carvery cave down some creaky old stairs. Seemed quite busy so obviously a good sign and we were really looking forward to a good meal, cant go too far wrong with meat and veg, you can. Guy at the bar was friendly enough gave us our tickets and we took a brief seat on the black leather interior that would be more fitting in an indian restaurant just below a nice big plastic plant on the windowsill before heading off to the 'carvery' beef and pork. Well to say ghandi's flip flop sprang to mind would be an understatement and in all honesty thats when we shouldve turned around and ran straight back up those creaky joe's. The 'cook' wouldve been better off with a ceramic tile cutter to get through that meat it was dryer than the Serengeti. My girlfriend politely requested pork and beef and was greeted with a stern 'NO' but after a few seconds said 'im only joking!' we were rolling in the aisles. Gotta give the guy credit though the way he could slice such a thin sliver was unreal it would be transparent if it wasnt so overdone. Gave us a yorkshire pudding that nearly slid off the plate like a hockey puck and it was over to the veg- how you can burn peas is beyond me, everything bland, spoons that nearly branded you home alone style, cauliflower cheese? Cauliflower mush with a carton of semi skimmed poured over it. Yorkshires looked promising but tasted like chewing on a ribena carton and the base was harder than mike tyson. Shouldve used it as a bongo and gone out busking to get my money back. But other than that a really lovely meal and looking forward to going back next week.

I am a local Scarborough person so it is with great regret I have to write this review 11 of us all our family and all Scarborough locals we went to the hotels Christmas carvery we were booked in for the 2 pm sitting when we arrived they had seated us in pool table section very tatty not much room with chairs stacked against the walls we moved our tables to make it a more pleasant seating area the staff did not move the tables we did it was then we realised we had been give the wrong information about the menu when we booked we complained and that’s when it all got nasty we complained to the manager and that’s when the owner got involved we have never been talked to in such a manner it then came obvious some thing was wrong with the management team not one apology not one sorry for what has happened so upset management and owners can treat customers like they did as I’ve said 11 local people and that is 11 people that will never go back such a shame as the food was good and all the serving staff and bar staff were all very nice

We had a bar meal here and the food presentation was like going back into the 70's massive portions not great quality (frozen chips) and not very well presented, I had Chicken Curry which was served with a massive portion of both rice and chips, come on one or the other with a nice side salad!! Tis place is OK if your greedy and just want to fill up and I mean FILL UP

Walked into the bar area and up to the serving point, to be informed, that the chap, was doing the bar, serving food and doing the Carvery all by himself, One of our party appeared, so we found a menu, ( i didn't really look for the Carvery price, on the menu, as we had come on recommendation of the Carvery), but the "Boss", said she would have something light, so saw Jacket Potato, I ordered Jacket Potato Tuna and extra Cheese and a Carvery, then realised the chap was looking at me, so i said "Large",not really knowing sizes or price, the way i was feeling, i could eat "A Scabby Horse", (NO !, The Crescent doesn't serve Horse, its just a way of saying how Hungry i was), Note, the prices and sizes for Carvery and opening times are clearly displayed at front door, the chap wrote down Food and Drinks and rang it through till, i paid, i then saw he had not put the Extra Cheese with the Jacket, i pointed this out, he muttered something, then just said "Thats fine", i think he should have charged me for extra filling, not sure. We sat down, with the rest of party and Dog, after a few minutes, most of us went to the Carvery, because the chap was now behind the Carvery, another member of staff appeared and informed the chap "No Jacket Potatoes", he told her "She had better go and see the party at the round table" loud enough for us to hear him, now considering there was only Two tables in use and Five of us were stood in front of him, maybe, this news, was just the Glace Cherry, on the top of his Thursday Baked Alaska from Hell, i dont know, but possibly he could have been a bit more discreet, i,asked for the Gammon (Two meats are offered at each service) it was a plate full and moist, now i know, it was getting towards end of service, but the Mash looked dried out, Peas, were Three different shades of Green and texture all mixed together, no Cauliflower Cheese (my favourite), but, i was the only person that had Leeks Au Gratin. I then returned to the table, then had to put my hot food down and go to the Bar, to order a Cheese Deli Bun, (which came as Brown sliced bread) instead of the unavailable Jacket Potato, No apology was offered, regarding the Jacket Potato, neither was the £2 difference in price offered. One of the party asked the waitress about Puddings, she was told by the chap "you have 2 Minutes", the young lady told the party she would order them for us, but would hold them back in kitchen, till we finished mains which she did. Thank you. It was, now turned 2pm ( Lunch is 12-00 till 14-00), the chap was clearing our table, my "Boss" was still eating her salad garnish and home made crisps, her cutlery was at opposite ends of the plate as she was talking and the chap went to lift her plate away, not a good idea and again no apology. As we were leaving Three of our party said "Thank you, Bye Bye, Thanks", not a single word from the chap. Please don't let this review put you off, the Carvery would have been Excellent apart from the points made

Our family of 4 plus our dog visited on Saturday night at 6pm. Only a few people in, can't understand why as food is great. We ordered 3 x Lasagne with chips and side salad and 1 x Butterfly Chicken topped with bacon and cheese. Didn't have to wait very long for food to arrive. All food was delicious. Also ordered a pint of ale, half a cider and 2 soft drinks total £42.15. Great value, friendly barman. Will definately visit again on next trip to Scarborough.

Very disappointed in our Christmas Day lunch, been here many times for the carvery so mother booked and paid for us to have Xmas dinner here, no mashed potato, parsnips or swede to be seen, sprouts Rock hard and bitter, but the worst things were the sauces, the gravy was like water and ran off your plate and down your clothes ruining my brothers brand new trousers, the brandy sauce again was like water which was a shame because the christmas pudding was actually quiet nice, coffee forgotten about, we never made a scene because my mother paid for it all and she'd just had a fall the day before, so just left it, such a shame

Staying in Scarborough on a damp, drizzling Sunday evening in October we wandered into the Crescent Bar for an early evening drink while we decided where to eat. The place was very pleasant, there were a few people eating so we looked at the menu and eventually decided to order the Sunday Roast. The beef was excellent, vegetables very good, generous portions. My partner had the Yorkshire Pudding which was apparently very good - I didn't as I avoid gluten. So as far as the food was concerned, I was very pleased. The young lady behind the bar was pleasant and couldn't have been more helpful. But the service was rather haphazard. A family of three who came in and ordered well after us had their food served quite a while before us, which I found puzzling. And ordering a desert resulted in a lot of visits by the waitress to ask what was gluten free, then to find out if there was any cream still available, and when ultimately we both opted for ice creams we were very surprised by the very lengthy wait.

I visited here on a rainy Sunday evening. The young lady behind the bar was very friendly. I chose from the bar menu which I believe has recently changed. I had the home made lasagne with chips & salad. It was lovely, much better than average "bar food". There is a good selection of hot & cold drinks, including beer from a local brewery. There is also a good selection of desserts but unfortunately I was just too full from my main to try any.

My son has a dairy allergy and often has to settle for sorbet when at an ice cream parlour. Truly Scrumptious gave him an amazing choice of dairy free ice creams and toppings. We wouldn’t normally have 3 ice creams in 3 days but he was just so excited that he had choices, how could we not??!!

We had a lovely lunch with family today, enjoying the view from above and the sunshine. However, when my food was being served, the sizzling from the oil in it landed on my husband's coat. When we asked for the bill, I explained the situation to the lady, who by the way was the person who served us the food, and she barely apologized. I would expect a better handling of the situation...

Rude staff with the worst food hygiene standards I have ever seen. I have reported to the local council and Environmental Agency. How they have a 5 star hygiene rating is beyond me, I imagine their last inspection was a long time ago. During our visit, it was extremely quiet, and when asking to order specific items from the menu, it was as though we had asked for the world. Eyes rolling and complete attitude. Avoid at all costs.
