Travelling up from either Worcester or London the Runswick Bay Tea Garden is really the thing we look forward to most as we drive the not inconsiderable distance to Whitby where we stay. Walking along the Cleveland Way from Saltburn by the Sea we find Anne’s delightful cakes and sandwiches are a delight. Not heavy stodgy things that might slow us down but wonderful productions and you can be very hard pressed to make your decision! We had a shocker of a year last year, hopefully it was better in the north east. Anne has surely to give up one day but hopefully not just yet. Their decision though naturally. Looking forwards to our next trip already. The local bus stops along the coast- either way… are adjacent. Wishing you all the best in 2025. Phil and Anne

Proper Yorkshire pub with fantastic food and warm welcome.

Given the area's rich food heritage, I've always been amazed by the lack of fine dining restaurants in and around Whitby. And so, Restaurant Number 20 shines like a beacon amidst a sea of fish & chip shops and overpriced pub food. The restaurant is cosy and intimate ran by a husband and wife team with an open plan kitchen, and this ethos spreads to the service and food. The service was friendly and attentive, knowing when to be discreet and when to stop and chat. Whilst the menu is a small but expertly curated mix of seasonal and local produce, so naturally expect plenty of fish and seafood. The brill was the standout on this visit, but on past visits the aged fillet steak was equally delicious and expertly cooked. What really makes Restaurant Number 20 stand out for us is the attention paid to the desserts. So many places - including those with Michelin stars - are often let down by forgettable dessert options. But here, it's arguable that the desserts are the stand out. With the Burnt Cheesecake an unforgettable experience that we haven't stopped thinking about since our first visit, and a must-have at every visit since. An truly hidden gem well worth seeking out, and should top of the list for anyone looking for a restaurant for a date night or special occasion along the North Yorkshire Coast

A gem of a tea room, the only one we saw in the vicinity of the harbour. Only had a scone and tea both were fresh and delicious. Lots of food on offer with a comprehensive menu. Friendly staff too.

Stumbled upon this place on a Sunday noon and we enjoyed a very warm welcome, they could still offer us a place in the beer garden, inside was fully booked. The food (Sunday roast of course) was magnificent, nice atmosphere, prices were good, service impeccable. Recommend this place!

Takeaway so not a sit in place. Only reason atmosphere lost marks. Staff were engaging and friendly, food was as good as Whitby fish and chips.

Really lovely hotel, in a super gorgeous setting. For it to really live up to the price point, I would expect the ‘little things’ to be covered i.e., better stocked amenities in the bathroom and more water in the rooms. Everyone working at the hotel were super sweet and friendly, but you could, at times, tell that this is a newly opened hotel still finding its feet.

Called in spur of the moment for Sunday Lunch. Friendly accommodating staff . Lunch was delicious. Proper crispy roast potatoes and delicious gravy. Will definitely call again when we are in the area.

Hermosa comida y gran servicio , tenía el especial de mariscos, gambas , cangrejo y salmón ahumado en abundancia, ensalada encantadora y una olla de Marie Rose en el lado más una rebanada de pan y mantequilla. Es como un día impresionante y la vista es increíble, el blanco plano es uno de los favoritos en la zona.

Nos alojamos por una noche para la cena, alojamiento y desayuno y nos encantó! La habitación era cómoda, con todo lo necesario y una hermosa vista. Nuestra cena fue deliciosa, el pastel de pescado era exquisito y el filete de bacalao cocinado a la perfección. Los mini postres eran encantadores, especialmente el pan de mermelada y pudín de mantequilla. El desayuno en la mañana estaba muy bien presentado y había un montón. Los huevos revueltos y el salmón ahumado eran preciosos. Sin duda recomendaría este lugar para aquellos que quieren una noche tranquila y disfrutar de comer pescado perfectamente cocinado. Acogedor pub con un menú excelente, inusual y creativo. Todo se cocina por encargo lo que, comprensiblemente, lleva algún tiempo. El servicio es amable y eficiente y todo el establecimiento tiene una sensación encantadora. Muy recomendable para una comida con una diferencia en la zona Whitby.

Just had the most gorgeous Sunday roast. I had Lamb and husband had Beef. Both equally good. Everything was perfectly cooked. Just wish we lived nearer so we could go more often. We'll worth walking up the hill. Can't recommend it enough. Very good and friendly staff.
