Gorgeous food, not bad prices. Big plates and couldn't finish but absolutely gorgeous lasagne. Burger was filling for my grandma but she absolutely loved

. WENT HERE THIS AFTERNOON. 10TH AUGUST. £7 FOR 2 PIECES OF BACON AND DRY BUN, NOT AND I MEAN NOT RECOMMEND. YOU SHOULD WEAR MASKS AS YOUR ROBBING PEOPLE WITH THE PRICES YOU CHARGE. DISGUSTED. PLEASE PEOPLE AVOID THIS PLACE.

As with lots of self catering accommodation our check out was 10am so little time for breakfast. A beautiful hot morning for an alfresco breakfast and The Moorhen was only a couple of minutes drive. Lovely fresh orange (large glass), two full English, toast and a pot of tea for two. Good quality ingredients, hot and well presented, good value we thought. We sat at a table in the shade of the trees overlooking the garden and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast. I continued sitting in the sun while my OH had a mooch and chat in the antique emporium. Before we knew it, it was lunchtime, no pressure for us to move but we had a long journey ahead. We’ll call again next time we’re in the area. Recommended.

Cllosed although website says open .walked 5miles thank goodness for the co op across the road. Not happy at all . Will definitely not try again !!!!

I honestly don't know where to begin the lady serving behind the counter took my order and was really nice . We ordered a bacon sandwich and eggs royal with tea and a mocha . She said we could have the drinks free which I thought a bit odd but very kind and also would bring out a sausage for the dog . Lovely . The drinks were brought out and cutlery one of the knives was filthy but we cleaned it on the napkin , didn't want to make a fuss also milk jug was dirty inside see photo . The food came out my husband s bacon sandwich was all bread and the tiniest amount of bacon , mine looked like a 5 year old had made it tiny bits of hard stale bread with raw eggs and bits of salmon on other bits of bread and then a load of hollandaise sauce poured on another bit . A pice of hard lettuce leaf was on the side , ! It's 2 hours later and I still feel queasy have never had an experience like this before will be contacting food standards agency and BTW the best food was the dogs sausage

This cafe is a little gem and well worth a visit. 6 of us went for breakfast and the staff were very welcoming and helpful getting a large enough table together for us. The food was amazing and was cooked freshly. We were only in the area for the weekend and found it as we were leaving for home, which was unfortunate as we would have loved to have eaten there more than once. We will definitely go back if we are in the area again.

Called in today after going past to visit Staithes. Spotlessly clean, friendly staff, lovely food and reasonably priced what more can you ask for.

A hidden gem between Whitby and Saltburn. There’s plenty of seating inside or out, very friendly staff, decent lunchtime choice and the food and drink were all good; homemade and fresh. We went for the soup of the day (vegetable) with a sandwich, which was very reasonably priced. The evening menus and special nights (Thai, Italian and Mexican were advertised) look great. We’ll definitely be going back to try these!

We stopped here on our way to Teesside. I had American pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and husband had a full English. They were both delicious. The place itself, is lovely and clean and inviting. The staff are really friendly. There is also outside seating, if the weather is ok.

Great breakfast, friendly welcome and good service. All very clean and staff happy to bring you anything you need. Interesting antiques shop next door. Options to eat inside or out. The wine list looked good.....but we were having breakfast!!

Called here one sunny weekday its changed now it used to be the barn owl cafe but new building all very nice and clean and lovely lady serving us maybe the owner as she was only one serving and service a bit slow,ordered some cakes and drinks all fine maybe a bit pricey as is menu also we sat outside as sunny day but the gravel needs tarmac down as unsafe and wobbly on tables and chairs car park needs a rethink overall not bad done the job for us.

Loved this place where we ate on the final evening of our holiday. A cafe during the day it only serves evening meals on Friday and Saturday and although quiet when we were there you should book, especially as their “theme” nights (Spanish tapas, Chinese, Italian, Greek) are extremely popular. With a laid back cafe bar vibe the food and service were both excellent-if we lived in the locality we’d be here all the time happily working our way through the menu. Don’t be put off by the fact that you can’t see the place from the road-it’s well worth the short (200 yard) drive down the track to reach it.

We visited The Moorhen for Chinese banquet night, wow. What a lovely place to eat, the staff are friendly and approachable and the food is absolutely fab! Very tasty and very generous food portions, at reasonable prices. They also cater for different dietary requirements as I am coeliac I had all my food made without gluten and was very tasty, you wouldn’t be able to tell it was any different. We would definitely recommend The Moorhen for food. 10/10

We visited here when we were on holiday in the area, I would advise booking. Food portions are good, quality is good and the front of house lady was absolutely lovely so helpful nothing was too much. Best meal of our holiday

An absolutely beautiful meal last night. The tempura prawns were delicious and perfectly cooked, as were the chicken kebabs, the belly pork was the best I have eaten and the steak was tender and cooked exactly how we wanted it. We were served by a lovely girl who was attentive and friendly, nothing was too much! (Sorry I can’t remember your name) We love our food and the food here rivals any top restaurant that we’ve been to! Well done Chef! Can’t wait to come back.

My wife and I visited for a meal .On arrival we were met by a wonderful friendly lady and her equally lovely assistant her daughter Sophia. We opted for the early bird special which was three course for £22.The food was excellent with adequate sized portions of quality food.I was recommended the fish pie for my main which was very nice. We will certainly return and I strongly recommend this restaurant.

We totally agree with the previous (first) 13 reviews, Very good food, very friendly, welcoming staff.. We both chose the mushroom risotto and agreed that it was about the best we have had this side of the Tiber and the lemon posset was equally good....

We have been staying next to The Moorhen cafe and Bistro in Staithes. What a lovely set up, food and staff have been brilliant. We have eaten breakfast, lunch and tea with cake over the last few days, only sorry that we will be leaving...
