Read a lot of good things online and didn't live up to my expectations, lovely exterior and location but interior quite stark (bright lighting and white tables) reminded me of a travel cafe rather than cosy country pub. Expensive and staff were adequate, didn't eat there as looking for more atmosphere which we found in bucket loads at the Fox and Hounds in Dalehouse a short walk away.

Me and my husband visited The Stables earlier this year and loved it. I am coeliac and they had a great gluten free menu. We visit again yesterday. I asked for a gluten free menu, which they didn’t have, informing me that they had recently changed the menu and they hadn’t been given a new gluten free menu, so they handed me the allergen sheets!! Anyone who has an allergy will know how it feels when the dreaded allergen sheets get handed over!! Having to trawl through line after line to try and see what you can and can’t eat, not a great dinning experience! I had to finally ask for some help and was told there were only 3 things I could eat from the main menu, out of over 30 main choices, this was very different from their previous menu and the only starter I could have was potato skins from the kiddies menu! When my food came it was nice, however I was so disappointed in the lack of thought for people with allergies. Gone from 5 stars to 2, so disappointing!

Sadly this hotel is now badly managed, unwelcoming atmosphere and decor. unloved and uncared for. The bare minimum being done. The hotel is not clean. All carpets around hotel not regularly clean. Dining area and bar untidy and dirty. Broken things and random items just dumped around hotel. Indoor/outdoor windows dirty. Only staff there were young waitress, young bar girl and a young cook. Noone in charge and apparently Manager away so told email Saram hotels as they unable to deal with my complaints. I would have asked for money back and left but noone to make that decision!!! Had to endure shoddy place and staff instead. Noone cares what this place looks like. My room not clean and old yellowy stains on duvet cover. Only the view from my bedroom was pleasant.

Just stayed for one night. Fantastic location. And a decent enough welcome. Room lovely, clean and comfy bed. Lovely quality tea.and coffee. We were asked what time would we like breakfast the choice was 8, 8.30, 9 or 9.30 we chose 9am we came down for breakfast and service was good.. then we chose full breakfast and a good size one turned up!! When we started eating it was clear it had been cooked and left to keep warm ages the egg looked like the yolk had been on somebody elses plate hash brown had such a hard bottem you couldn't get your teeth though it, I'm sure they knew how bad it was as they kept well out of the way. We left lots of the breakfast! We proceeded to check out and she said was everything OK ? I said lovely apart of the breakfast that had been kept warm far too long.. she just said sorry and not very sincerly and changed the subject.. we travel alot and vote with our feet.. won't be returning to stay at the Royal george. Such a shame. But we didn't let it ruin our lovely trip to Staithes..and we will be back......
