Our starter was fine. My main meal of fish tacos presented in soft wraps rather than crispy tacos as I expected. Let’s kThe large prawns were in batter but very soggy - the wrap was filled with too much red cabbage and some red onion as well as the 3 battered prawns and some spicy mayo. I ordered side of chips which were clearly reheated at least once and not palatable. They were chewy and brown. The price of approx £12 and extra £2 for the chips was fine if the meal was good but it wasn’t. My partner enjoyed his food . My meal was disappointing. I wasn’t asked if I enjoyed the food by the staff and had to uncomfortably mention that my food was not enjoyable. The staff apologised and said she would tell the chef. My bill was reduced by the cost of the starter and the chips . ( approx £9) rather than the cost of the main I was complaining about. I payed and the waitress apologised again. I doubt that I’d want to eat an evening meal here again- but I’ve always enjoyed small plates . The drinks and service are brilliant and the atmosphere is lovely as is the view of the harbour . I hope the feedback is taken on board.

Had a lovely evening here. The walk down was steep but the gorgeous harbour and the pub was worth it. It was a lovely sunny but cold evening but we wrapped up and had the best dinner outside enjoying the view. I had Cajun salmon salad and hubby had the muscles. We couldn’t believe the prices! Lovely spot for a casual meal. The food is good and portions plentiful, the service very friendly, and the view (especially from the tables outside overlooking the harbour) is super. Additionally they have some very good draft ales (Black Sheep and Howardian Gold when we were there) and a fantastic list of almost 50 gins and 40 whiskies. It feels like a neighbourhood pub, even though it's in a popular tourist village. Just be aware: it gets very busy during the summer holidays, especially at weekends!

Sadly marred by the 80s and 90s rock blaring out from the outdoor speakers overlooking the outdoor seating and the harbour. Location and views great. Tables outside a bit small. Food great, served quick, hot and tasty. No cutlery or condiments brought to table, despite being told, then having to ask. My wife ordered two starters and I ordered a main to be had simultaneously. Starters arrived after about an hour, we explained the main was missing and were told this was on the way. It wasn’t on the way and didn’t come for 30 minutes so we ate separately after waiting a very long time for some fairly average food. Seabass had an odd funk to it in some areas of the fish and all of the food was fairly heavily salted. Nothing done to rectify, no apologies made and nothing done to improve a pretty poor experience.

Following a similar review from an Ian Dale last week. Food looked great but having asked one waitress to order food, she said she would return. We asked her again, then asked three other waitresses separately no service despite been out on the terrace serveral times after our requests. After 1/2 hour I went in to complain to one of the waitresses about been ignored. I got told I could have ordered from the bar. The owner then came out and expressed her annoyance at complaining to one of her waitresses about poor service. The owner wants to stand back and watch her staff who are not as efficient as she thinks. As a person who runs business and a Chartered Leader and Manager, sometimes you should listen, reflect and act.

Probably the best restaurant we have been to in Staithes. Superb atmosphere, surrounded by photos of the past and with a rich history. The seafood 🦞 🍤 🐟 was fresh including the mussels. I can’t complain except the size of the lobster tail was ridiculously small. However, apart from that the fish and chips could feed 3 adults. The chips were the best grade ever. The only thing we didn’t like about the place was the flies, they just kept flying on the food. They should place one of the fly killers in the corner somewhere.

Staithes is such a beautiful place, and my 88 year old dad decided to treat himself and grandson to lobster. This place put him off ever trying lobster again. They shared a whole one, but it was so tiny they hardly had any! It was also tasteless. The fish pie was also tasteless and needed some seasoning and sauce. Even the cheese panini was dry and hardly any cheese. On a positive note, the scampi and seafood kebab were (I am told), good. Place was smelly, and a fair few flies! Such a shame, really, as they're in such a great spot, I'm sure a lot of people (like us) get their hopes up.

I visited the establishment yesterday 24/07/24 hoping for an atmospheric lunch in the sun. I saw a single free table(a good sign) on the terrace and quckly asked inside if ordering at the table was OK and if psyment could be made by card. The answer to both questions was affirmative, sounded promising. After sitting I asked the gave the first passing waitress my order. I was surprised that she did not return with the bankcard machine to take payment but assumed I would pay when it arrived. I asked several other staff in the ensuing 25 minutes until it dawned on me that maybe my order had in fact failed. At this point I asked another waitress if she could check the status of my order. After more minutes a senior staff member(the landlady?) asked what I had ordered at which point it became clear that they had no record of my order(it had never been passed on by the original waitress. This senior staff cynically asked if "I thought I had ordered lunch". Myself and other customers were amazed at this language as I had clearly given a verbal order and it had not been refused by the originsl waitress. I was then asked if I eould like to reorder lunch, but as I had wasted 35 minutes if my paid car parking ticket I no longer had sufficient time to wait and eat a lunch. The apology was perfunctory and insincere in tone with a continued "thought I ordered" mentality on the part of the staff. While waiting I had overheard another customer/staff altercation where a customer had complained about how she had been spoken to. In conclusion, the whole 45 minutes was a waste of time, AVOID the place.

We have repeatedly heard positive reports about the Cod & Lobster so thought we would book in twice during our recent stay in Staithes. On the first evening my son tried his first lobster. Sadly it was so small there were barely two mouth fulls to try! Disappointing. Despite this I decided to keep life simple and return on our last night when my mother was joining us. Her mobility is not good so it made sense to stay near where we were staying. Our order included a burger, a salmon dish served on a rosti, a pie of the day and fish skewers served with chilli rice. Where do I start with the plethora of issues?? Firstly we waited 45 minutes for food. It's a busy pub I understand but still, 45 minutes without any explanation or apology is too much. The burger was one of those tasteless solid lumps of grey meat you see from burgers previously frozen. The manager reports that they are in fact bought in 'premium steak burgers' - I completely disagree with this. It was solid. It was grey. It was hard. The peas served with 2 of the meals were crunchy. The manger says these are frozen peas....... why?!?!?! The salmon, whilst cooked well, was served on what can only be described as a previously frozen hash brown. The manager confirmed it was bought in and frozen but that it was a rosti. (I'd check the writing on the freezer bag, it was a hash brown at best). My mother's Sea Food kebab was over cooked and tough. The chilli rice looked like boil in the bag rice that had a few chopped chillis mixed into it. Given their reliance on convenience items from the freezer I would suggest that was the source of this 'special' rice. The manager assured us it was made fresh. It certainly didn't look or taste fresh. When I asked the waiter which desserts were home made sadly it was only the crumble. The other desserts are bought in but from local suppliers so we decided to try the cheesecake only to be told 15 minutes later that they had run out. We spoke to the manager by accident really. Our very sweet waitress asked if we had enjoyed the meal and when my mother replied politely but honestly the manager was called over to speak to us. I told him of our issues. He argued each point even saying that he had tried the burger and thought it was lovely. And so I am swimming against the tide here........ The Cod and Lobster is a little gold mine for someone. Heaving through the summer months with the tourists and their hard earned money, repeat business is not a necessity in this business model thankfully. The location is as good as it gets in Staithes and they have some lovely bar and waiting staff but please do not be fooled, this is basic cooking, pub grub if you will. Reheated items put together on a plate in such a way it look like it could be palitable ..... until you look a little closer or have the misfortune to eat it. The menu is VAST - there is no way that one cook (I'm not using the word chef!) can do so many dishes justice and they did not disappoint during our visit. Surely it is better to offer far fewer options but to do them to a better standard? They offer the longest gin and whisky menu I have seen in even the most swanky bars in London however I would do yourself a favour and stop there. Have a nice drink with a view..... then go home and cook yourself something from fresh using the amazing local ingredients available in this area avoiding crunchy previously frozen peas, boil in the bag rice and shop bought hash browns!! On the plus side it was a cheap meal out...... and that was without any discount despite voicing our issues. Disappointing.

Poorly executed food, bad/ no flavour, bizarre presentation. Half lobster with potatoes and salad - didn't expect the hot food to be placed on top of the salad in the same (hot) bowl. No one likes warm lettuce. Just weird. Butter in packets on the plate so the butter was completely melted and poured out of the package - also, don't put packaged items on the same plate touching the food! Completely unhygienic! Not to mention just plain trashy. Lobster undercooked in parts. Flavour was ok while eating but found there was a weird bad fish taste in my mouth for a good half hour after the meal. Signature dish served with "rostis" which were weird flabby potato discs/ rings? Mussels with cream bland and no flavor, cream obviously poured on top just before serving - no chance for mussels to absorb any flavor. Table was sticky. Staff had a very haughty attitude and obviously think very highly of this place which is undeserved. Acted as if we were lucky to be there. Wouldn't have even left a review but they don't deserve their current rating of 4.5 - needs taking down a peg. Go to the pub up the road instead.

Absolutely beautiful fish & chips . Good portions and considerably cheaper than fish & chips in nearby Whitby hence the full restaurant and busy takeaway queue . They never disappoint .

We only really had drinks apart from our daughter who had a cheeseburger 🍔. She ate it all and enjoyed that! It looked like a good mixture of food on the menu though. Good selection of drinks and dog friendly. One of the few places on the front that allow children and dogs in at night.

The food is lovely; fresh cooked to order. I had the Lite Bite option with extra peas which was very filling and tasty. I visited Scarborough on Easter Sunday so expected it to be busy but it was very quiet in Wackers. Edit: Visited again, today, 2nd October and had another delicious meal-this time I remembered to take a photo😹 If you like tartare sauce you’ll love Wacker’s version; homemade, light, zingy and delicious! Highly recommended! Edit: October 2024 I popped in for lunch today, ordering the Senior Special which consisted of fruit juice, small haddock and chips, bread and butter and a pot of tea: delicious!
