Lovely sea side pub with extensive menu. Friendly staff and lovely landlady. Good beer unfortunately no good cider! We called in for lunch and were seated and served promptly. Interesting decor with plenty of fascinating old local photos on the walls. Dog friendly. We ate steak and ale pie which was excellent, however the mash had been standing before reheating and had a slight yellow skin on top. Plenty of delicious gravy. Whitby Scampi was good quality and piping hot, freshly cooked. Unfortunately the chips had been in the oil one too many times and were dark brown and a bit tough. The peas were obviously cooked a while ago and had lost colour and were overcooked. We did order shortly before the end of service but to my mind meals should be as good at 2.30 as they were at 12.30.

Dined 3 nights in a row, excellent food most nights but depends on which team is serving & cooking, 3rd night a bit disappointed with service (slightly wrong order) and chips were just ok. There was a 10 minute power cut in whole village earlier in the day which might’ve affected preparation for the evening service? On the whole, great food, especially the large range of fish selection!

Lovely venue for drinks and a gorgeous view of Staithes. However we weren’t impressed with the food- both ordered fish and chips and whilst it looked huge and tasty it was tasteless and one of the fish was almost all overcooked batter - the response of staff blamed myself for not reporting at first mouthful of the fish. The dish that wasn’t to standard was not replaced or discounted., I would have expected better service at the price we paid.

Lovely restaurant overlooking the sea. Decor a little outdated but who cares when the food is so good. Had the seafood chowder starter which was large enough for a lunch main and tried a battered oyster, served in a shell on a salad base it was so scrumptious I ordered a second one and insisted my friend tried one too. Staff were friendly and highly attentive. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Very disappointed with our meal that we had been looking forward to. Lovely situated pub but the inside resembles a truckers cafe. Ordered the signature Cod and Lobster my partner the fish and chips. The lobster was tiny and overcooked so chewy, the cod was ok but not seasoned, the whole dish very bland. The fish and chips was terrible. A tiny portion of fish dipped several times in batter to increase the size then fried within an inch of its life. The chips that were obviously frozen were pale and cold. We complained to the manager that the fish was just batter with no fish. He could see that the dish had hardly been eaten. He said he would pass it on to the chef and would knock off the price of 2 drinks. The experience ruined our night that we had been looking forward to. Would not eat there again. Nice place to sit outside for a drink but they seriously need to employ a better chef.

What a fantastic place. Tucked into the bottom of Staithes near the harbour. We parked at the top of the hill and walked down. It is quite a popular place and filled up quite quickly soon after we got there. Nice welcome and a great menu… choices for all tastes. We had fish tacos and chowder for lunch. Portion size great and both dishes absolutely delicious. The chowder was packed with fish and shell fish. Will definitely come here again… want to have the lobster! A well stocked bar too and great friendly service.

My wife and I took a chance on a beautiful winter's day and called in for lunch on visit to Staithes. Pub was alive with people and found one of last tables, overlooking harbour. Lots of people, but music level was low 😇. Only slight disturbance was one yapping dog...(hence 4 stars for atmosphere) but thankfully eventually calmed down. Service was run by a landlady who had her finger on the pulse, and customer service top notch...well done to her!! Especially that the team of young people serving and cooking etc well and truly doing their job. Big pat on the back to them too! Great to see local people employing local young people and doing it with SUCH success. Big pluses for that. We both had fish menu and couldn't say enough about quality, speed of service, and value for money. Major ticks all round. A wonderful surprise to enjoy this chance encounter and we tried to express this in being generous with a tip. Sadly especially since the pandemic this custom in UK seems to have died out. Shame on us all, I say..and I hope this review will help us all to do better. Having worked in a Service Industry all my life, I don't think its possible to show too much appreciation to those who serve. And absolute tonic to see young people so well motivated in their work. I hope that they will read this review even if no-one else does! Thank you all very much for your hospitality. Well done all round.

Of the two places in the village that serve alcohol to be consumed on the premises this definitely had the better views especially when seated outside looking out to sea. Good selection of food on the vast menu priced reasonably, though a tad disappointed with the mussels in tomato and chilli sauce, as any hint of chilli could not be noticed.

Cod and Lobster was an amazing place to eat. We arrived not knowing what to expect from Staithes; but we were hungry, so we wanted something to eat before we explored. Our family of two adults and a child ate very well here indeed - with three marvellously cooked meals served by friendly staff in a great venue in the heart of the village, and indeed the spirit of the village. The menu has loads of choice, with specials too! Despite being busy and meals cooked fresh to order, the food came in good time. Definitely recommended!

I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. We visited to celebrate my dad’s 70th birthday, and everything about the evening felt worthy of the occasion. The food was fabulous, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were wonderfully attentive. The selection of beer and wine was fantastic, but what truly stood out was the gin and whisky selection—easily the best on this side of the Scottish border. My review might not have been as positive a few years ago, but it’s clear that real effort has gone into elevating this charming little eatery. The improvements are undeniable, making it a standout spot. Plus, it’s dog-friendly, which adds another star to this already stellar experience!

Fantastic location with spectacular sea views. It has a great atmosphere and feels quaint and cosy! The staff are friendly and the menu has an abundance of options, catering to all, vegetarians, pescaterians and meat lovers! As it is set in one of the the most beautiful fishing villages, we opted for fish dishes. The fish was fresh and lovely, however somehow the food was a bit disappointing. My partner ordered the most expensive thing on the menu the cod and lobster special, the portion was a little bit too small as he was still hungry after and the vegetables on my pan fried monkfish arrived cold. Cannot fault the taste of the food though...

Not worth the money in my experience. Booked with my family. When we arrived, we stood for a while unnoticed. Someone got the waitress’s attention and she proceeded to finish her conversations before bothering to seat us. Family found their meals ok. I ordered the monkfish and it didn’t look great when it came out. It was dry and overcooked and the mash was lumpy throughout. I had to just stop eating it at a point because it was dreadful, especially for £20. The waitress was cold towards us from the beginning, making me feel like it’s not worth complaining. I figured either herself or the kitchen would notice their customer has left the majority of their food and question it but obviously not. Didn’t want to come across as someone only looking to get money off the bill so just took it as a loss but won’t be returning - service and food well below expectation.

This pub may not be quite as successful if it wasn’t for the clearly well organised operation going on behind the scenes. This is one of the busiest pubs (in terms of people: space ratio) and yet nothing ever feels flustered or chaotic. Even at the busiest of times, you can be accommodated and get something to eat or drink, in a seemingly effortless fashion from those serving. Staffing levels are excellent (lots of young folk getting some pocket money!) which certainly helps. All very polite and lovely. We eat here most of the time when we visit (what? We’re on holiday!). This has spanned over 10 years. We have never found fault with any of our experiences. Not that we look for them of course, we are easy to please and appreciate good pub fayre. Portions are hearty. Parmos are mega. Seafood cooked to perfection. Chips are moreish (most people like ‘chip shop style’ chappy down below, you’re in Yorkshire!). Steak pies jam packed and comes in a thick wedge, not a pot. The family owners clearly work very hard - we noticed this over the Christmas period. Not much time off, for the sake of our enjoyment. It is appreciated, and it certainly pays off. See you soon, Cod & Lobster. Don’t change!

Another visit with family to this fantastic venue with amazing sea frontage & harbour. In my opinion you cannot fault the quality of food & prices you pay. Our group had a selection of starters comprising of Fresh chef made fish cakes, Holloumi fries, Scallops & mains courses of Fish & Chips (fish is x2 size of usual fish shops), Fish Pie (cod, salmon, prawns topped with mash & cheese) & Steak & Ale pie. We have never seen so much meat cramped into a pie, it was colossal! Photo attached to prove my point. There is a huge selection of beers, wines, gins & whiskies to choose from. The staff are excellent & attentive & very welcoming. Full marks to the owners & staff for running such a great traditional pub & restaurant without all the hype you see & hear from so called gourmet establishments which are overated & over-priced (IMHO). We will always come back here if we are in the area as it is too good to miss & wish to support such a great business, BUT advise to book ahead to avoid dissapointment during peak times as it will be busy with it being such a great place to eat, especially fresh seafood lovers.

Stayed in Staithes for a few days and it's a quaint little fishing village with lovely cottages and the odd shop, there are a couple of pubs but the Cod and lobster looked best for food. It's in a great location, right on the waterfront and looked great from the outside. Unfortunately, on walking in the interior atmosphere is quite alarming and contrasting to the exterior promise of somewhere cosy. It's too bright, overly lit even in the evening, white walls, white table tops. A quick dimming of the lights would make a huge difference! The staff were all friendly, they had a good range of cask ales and there was a nice blend of locals and holidaying families in there on a Sat eve. The menu is vast, including as expected a lot of seafood options and some pub classics. The portions looked enormous, I saw a few Parmo's go passed to another table and they were monstrous. I ordered steak and Ale pie and my wife had the half lobster. The steak and ale pie was huge, I couldn't eat it all. Chips and gravy were tasty, steak in the pie was ok but the pastry was poor, neither soft nor crispy, definitely didn't taste fresh, and the garden peas somehow undercooked. The lobster was delicious however, although it was served quite peculiarly, in a bowl on top of a mound of chippy chips with orange slices but a nice fresh salad. Prices were reasonable I thought for food and drinks, service was nice and friendly, just the atmosphere, decor, ambience and the food were a little disappointing. I'd probably opt for a cosier pub experience next time

What a let down! We heard amazing things about the food here, but the food did not reach our expectations - really don’t understand all of the 5 star reviews. The prawn tacos were drowning in grease and the prawns were obviously frozen. Disappointing given the fact the pub is on the sea front. The chicken parmo was also clearly frozen. Rock solid chicken and slimy breading with bland sauce and cheese. Very disappointing!

The location is great, particularly if you get the opportunity to sit outside, overlooking the sea. Unfortunately, they play music outside to drown out the noise of the lapping waves. There are no ‘no smoking’ areas so, if one person smokes, everyone has to join in. Lunch and dinner were both good with a large menu to select from. Staff were friendly. This place is the most obvious food establishment in Staithes based on location by the bay so is very busy and fills up quickly. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The shellfish linguine and scallops were very good. However, there were issues with the lobster dish. Firstly, there was confusion about the actual market price that day. There was a price on the board, which was different to what the server told us and after all the confusion the price on the bill was more expensive than all previous prices quoted. They are open hours before they start serving food so would have expected in this time for them to be coordinated enough to know the price of their food. Had visited especially to taste the lobster but the half lobster dish was pretty bland and the vegetables lacked seasoning. Bit of mixed bag of a review as both high and low points. Would return to give it one more go in case they were having an off day.

Our starter was fine. My main meal of fish tacos presented in soft wraps rather than crispy tacos as I expected. Let’s kThe large prawns were in batter but very soggy - the wrap was filled with too much red cabbage and some red onion as well as the 3 battered prawns and some spicy mayo. I ordered side of chips which were clearly reheated at least once and not palatable. They were chewy and brown. The price of approx £12 and extra £2 for the chips was fine if the meal was good but it wasn’t. My partner enjoyed his food . My meal was disappointing. I wasn’t asked if I enjoyed the food by the staff and had to uncomfortably mention that my food was not enjoyable. The staff apologised and said she would tell the chef. My bill was reduced by the cost of the starter and the chips . ( approx £9) rather than the cost of the main I was complaining about. I payed and the waitress apologised again. I doubt that I’d want to eat an evening meal here again- but I’ve always enjoyed small plates . The drinks and service are brilliant and the atmosphere is lovely as is the view of the harbour . I hope the feedback is taken on board.

Really enjoyed coming here for the first time. The pub was busy-ish but got a table and drinks very quickly and the food was well priced and delicious.

Lovely spot for a casual meal. The food is good and portions plentiful, the service very friendly, and the view (especially from the tables outside overlooking the harbour) is super. Additionally they have some very good draft ales (Black Sheep and Howardian Gold when we were there) and a fantastic list of almost 50 gins and 40 whiskies. It feels like a neighbourhood pub, even though it's in a popular tourist village. Just be aware: it gets very busy during the summer holidays, especially at weekends!

The food was disappointing, we ate here two nights and it was just typical pub grub and nothing special, sisters came last year and said it was noticeably less tasty this year, curry was dry bits of chicken with no sauce, fishcakes were bland and dry, gravy was Bisto, not much else to eat in Staithes unfortunately

Really nice setting. Went with friends, 8 of us in total. Managed to get seats outside. Pub was busy, had a little wait for some of the meals but it was worth wait.

Went twice last week with friends, the food is great and well served. We managed to find space for us 7 (3 kids) which was great. The service could be a little bit more attentive but then it was REAL busy.

Scampi chips and mushy peas in the sunshine. Lovely. Good quality and a decent portion for £12.50.

Amazing location and great food for very reasonable prices. Friendly staff and prompt service. Sadly marred by the 80s and 90s rock blaring out from the outdoor speakers overlooking the outdoor seating and the harbour. Such a shame as it really spoils the atmosphere and ruins a nice evening stroll on the beach. Please unplug them and just let your guest listen to each other, the waves and the seagulls.

Location and views great. Tables outside a bit small. Food great, served quick, hot and tasty. No cutlery or condiments brought to table, despite being told, then having to ask. Went and got it all myself. Curry sauce for fish and chips wasn't "chip shop" - more generic Indian curry sauce - think tescos "chicken curry and rice" - doesn't pair with fish and chips well.

Lovely for a hearty breakfast. Great range of options, and what we had was tasty, hot and freshly made. We also came home with some cakes because they looked too good to pass on! Altogether a great little spot with delicious food and excellent, friendly service.

Not much to our liking on the menu, had hoped for more seafood being near Scarborough
