The Surroundings were cosy and welcoming, especially for our canine companion. The food was excellent but the real stars were the staff - they were so attentive and friendly. Thank you so much for making us (and the hound!) so welcome.

We are a tricky bunch to feed. Meat eaters, fish fanatics and a vegan. (there has to be a joke in there somewhere). So it was great to find such a choice for everyone. The chef really understands the value of good ingredients. Very coastal feel to the dining room. Staff are lovely. Highly recommended. We phoned ahead because of dietary needs and the chef was really happy to make sure there were lots of tasty options.

We had a delightful evening at The Runswick Bay Catch. The dinning room was full, so I was happy we booked in advance (always a good sign!) The staff were all friendly and accommodating. The Swahili Prawns were delicious, a dish I have never tried before but glad I did. I had homemade Bakewell Tart which did not disappoint! I tried a lovely Whitby Gin, it's nice to see a restaurant supporting local producers. Would recommend.

The restaurant is pleasant, although there seems to be a lot of rules? The place claims to be a fish restaurant and yet there are more “alternative” dishes than fish dishes The cooking and presentation of the food is naive and there is little seasoning skill on display. Scallops were over cooked and garnishing with lumps of parsley spoils their true flavour. The pan fried lemon sole was a fillet rather than a whole fish and had been sweated and poached rather than fried. The fish pie, which should be the signature dish was very poor, potato, lumpy potato, more potato a smattering of tiny dice of grey fish, salmon and a few shrimps. Even the cheese topping lacked cheese. No hard boiled egg, no succulent fish and shellfish, no delicately seasoned, creamy sauce. What should have been a delight was a disappointment. The reality does not reflect the claims on the website and the seafood platters are not available along with crab, lobster, etc. It is either a fish restaurant or it isn’t- the decision must be made to avoid disappointing more customers. Notwithstanding, this is a pleasant place to eat with charming staff and some interesting wines. A little more skill and finesse in the kitchen and a few decisions on what the place wants to be and this could be a very successful venue.

We were looking forward to visiting this fish restaurant unfortunately it did not live up to expectations the awful fish smell as you walk in should have warned us but didn’t,our seared scallops were uncooked fishy marshmallow, my sea bass was over cooked hard at the edges, the accompanying Mediterranean veg was cold and mushy ,my husband had prawn curry with cold new potatoes and salad ,why not rice, the waitresses had on dirty pinnys, .There was no atmosphere ,thelighting just on full in a large echoey bland room. All for £75.30, That did include a bottle of cheapest wine and 2 ginger beers. Not recommend

This restaurant was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. All the food was freshly cooked I had thai fishcakes for starter which was great and we both had salmon for our mains which was a nice size and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful with both advice about the area as well as the dished on offer. It was nice to eat in a place that makes great efforts to source local ingredients. The Yorkshire wines were surprisingly good. We both recommend this reautrant to you if staying in the area.

Good location with off street parking in tired premises. Seafood and meat dishes almost 'floating' on oil. Good quality produce spoiled by method of cooking. Scallops not trimmed of sinew and done in an oil (very wet) . Too many vegetables served on a platter and again all cooked in an oil and over cooked. NOT to be recommended

For a large pub and the fact it was late on in the day on a Saturday, it was very clean and the staff were very polite. Food was good and nice selection of beer.

This is a handy place to eat when visiting Whitby Abbey especially after climbing up the steps. Decent number of tables inside and out. It can get busy and likely there may be a queue. It is part of the Youth Hostel and serves a variety of hot and cold drinks, cakes as well as larger meal options. We all had paninis which were nice enough and the side order of chips were nice. Nothing spectacular but it filled a gap well and with nice views.

Called in for fish and chips to share - £10. Opened the box to find the fish in three pieces. Rancid oil taste to both fish and hard chips. Truly the worst fish and chips I have ever eaten.

Very friendly staff. We had a delicious meal and really reasonably priced. Would definitely return. Digs allowed in the bar area.
