Came to Dunsley for one night to surprise my brother in law on his 70th birthday. It was not our first visit, but it was for my in laws. The two rooms allocated were absolutely lovely, 17 and 18. Large, cosy, quiet and very comfortable with extremely nice bathrooms. We had the evening meal which we all enjoyed and breakfast the next morning. Dunsley is a great place, it maybe is a bit worn round the edges but that all adds to the charm of it and we all enjoyed our visit very much.

The food here is good but nothing special. We stayed for a one night break and ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. The dinner menu is a little restricted with not a huge amount of choice although I would say most pallets are catered for. The restaurant is a little lacking in atmosphere but the staff are really good, polite and attentive. Service was good and always done with a smile. What we had was well cooked and presented nicely so we enjoyed what what we had. Again the wine list is small but enough to cater for most. I would not highly recommend it but I would also not say avoid it. The breakfast is good and again will satisfy most. My only complain was that on the cooked breakfast the baked beans were a little cold but the quality of what was served was good.

We booked Dunsley Hall following an advert in the Yorkshire Post. Like many places in the hospitality industry they are suffering with staff shortages. However, this did not detract from the warm welcome and excellent service of the staff. Many of them doubled or tripled on the jobs they would do. Helen would dart from the reception desk to serve at the bar and could then be seen serving in the restaurant at either breakfast or evening meal. None of the staff let it be shown that they were run ragged to ensure that all guests had a pleasant relaxing stay. Sonia, overseeing the kitchen, also catered for our dietary needs and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you, Dunsley Hall, for a wonderful 2 night stay. You can be assured that we will recommend you to all our friends and we will be back in the future.

My wife and I ate dinner here while on a trip to Yorkshire in August 2021. Our meal wasn't good. Some of the food (e.g., my starter, of pate and toast) was fine. But my main course pasta dish was positively greasy - far too much oil. And my wife's main course, of se bass, came with over-cooked vegetables which included broccoli. Wound through that broccoli was something which looked to us for all the world to be a long blonde hair. Our waitress didn't respond well when we pointed this out, first mentioning that she wasn't the chef, and then insisting that no-one in the kitchen was blonde. Disappointing and not professional. It took a while before a more senior member of staff came to our table and explained that the offending item didn't seem to be a hair (but rather a long carrot thread?). Even at £45 for two (just for the food, not including wine) this was a deeply disappointing meal, I'm afraid.

The restaurant left a lot to be desired, small portions, I had the risotto with sea bass which was a tiny piece laid on the top of the risotto, Vegetables were underdone and carrots rock hard! Desert uninteresting . The hotel was much the same, a beautiful building but needs a great deal of tlc.

We started with quite low expectations. The menu was quite limited. What a lovely surprise! The bacon ribeye was great and the vegetables were perfect. At £45 for two this was excellent value too. The dining room lacks atmosphere but with food this good who cares!

We have been to stay at Dunsley Hall Hotel two or three times now and have not been disappointed.the welcome at the front door is always very friendly. The rooms are lovely and warm, clean and the en-suite always immaculate. The food is just gorgeous. We booked again this year (twice) but with COVID we've had to cancel. We will return next year. Beautiful hotel in the most beautiful setting. Yes, we like Dunsley Hall Hotel and would thoroughly recommend it.

This was our first visit to Dunsley Hall with a group of fifty or more people etc my husband and I were looking forward to our pre-booked meal, after going into the restaraunt and sitting at our allocated table waiting for our meal to be served, the staff were very friendly and did a good job of serving at the tables and waiting on us as it was a busy night for them all. My husband and I were very disappointed in some of the three course meal itself ,I did enjoy my starter of pate etc but my husband didn't enjoy his prawn cocktail starter and wasn't very impressed as he said the rocket salad which it was on tasted gritty, and the prawns didn't taste fresh, the main course of turkey/stuffing/yorkshire pudding which I had was nice enough plus the beef my husband had he said was ok, but when it come to the serving of the vegetables I wasn't to impressed with how they had just been put in a bowl all together and didn't look to appetising I think it would have been much better if the potatoes/carrots /broccolli/cauliflower had been served on seperate bowls with a spoon/fork also they were only lukewarm, when one of our table asked for more gravy there was only one small jug brought, it would have been much better if they had,had maybe three gravy boats on the table the dessert was quite nice. When the meal was finished tea/coffee was served on pouring them out they were lukewarm also it would have been better if there was two pots of tea on the table as well as two pots of coffee and two jugs of milk or cream for the coffee . I realise the chef and catering staff have a hard job catering/serving for such large numbers but we would have enjoyed the meal/ vegetables/tea/coffee etc if it had been served much warmer and presented better could i make a suggestion on the waiting of the tables maybe it would be easier for the staff if a table of four was served by one member of staff ,a table of seven two members of staff, a table of eight or more three members of staff etc Dunsley Hall seemed a nice place to be in and the lounge we went in after our meal was cosy and pleasant to be among friends, I feel its a shame my husband and I were disappointed in our meal.

We were staying in the hotel and ate here three nights in a row. One assembles in the bar, from where you order your dinner and, when it is ready, you are escorted to the restaurant. Very civilised. Every evening there is a standard three course menu and a few specials that change every night. Everything we had was very good except that we found the desserts too large and impossibly sugary. The cheese tray, however, was excellent. Of the starters, I found the pigeon with black pudding excellent and for a man course the lamb rack. Our table neighbours raved about the cod, but I didn't find it particularly special. The restaurant is bright with a quite modern decor. There is a good selection of wines by the bottle - not so many by the glass. But if you are staying in the hotel they will keep the bottle for you for the next day. Breakfast was mostly very good, but an establishment like this should offer something more than just supermarket sliced bread for toasting. Fresh orange juice would also have been appreciated.

We popped here for dinner after seeing the good reviews and website. However, upon arrival the place was deserted and rather unwelcoming. Eventually, we found someone at the bar who was quite unpleasant. The unpleasantness continued in the restaurant where the staff were unhelpful, it was difficult to get there attention and everything seemed so difficult for them. One particular waiter looked like he had been dragged off the street and didn't want to be there. He didn't smile once and his whole face was dripping with sweat. The atmosphere was terrible, the food average and the whole apperance a complete contrast to what was portrayed on the website.

Charming hotel set in a lovely building with an interesting history and attractive gardens. Staff were attentive and helpful and the evening meal represented very good value for money, not fine dining but nicely cooked and presented. The breakfast was rather more basic (with my pet hate, the do it yourself toasting machine, which takes forever to toast the bread!).There is no lift, so if you have mobility issues ask for a room on the ground floor. Nice touch was the complementary sherry in the lounge, which is a lovely room for relaxing, with a beautiful stain glass window and inglenook fireplace. A drawback is that there are no walks directly from the hotel into Sandsend, apart from the quite narrow road. Our room was rather basic, (No 8) although very clean and spacious enough, with two armchairs, though the bed was not very comfy! Ask for an upgrade if available, as I understand there are better rooms. Overall, very good value for money and a nice budget get away. Would stay again.

I've had a mixed relationship with Dunsley Hall. I once damaged the car when I reversed into a 'feature' in the middle of the car park. My fault. Then I attempted to book Sunday lunch after seeing an offer on the front page of the Whitby Gazette, which management refused to honour. This time I didn't notice the '2 for £24.50' offer in the Gazette until we arrived. Three courses for £24.50 for two and it wasn't bad. The beef was topside and generously cut. There was genuine table linen. Impeccably clean, a tidy garden and the place well run. Dunsley was packed. We only just got in. It was very popular amongst fellow pensioners. But somehow we won't be back straight away...

I asked the waitress how we paid & she informed me we had to pay at the reception desk. However despite ringing the bell no one came to the desk & i had to return & see the waitress who went to find the member of staff who thanked us for our honesty & not leaving. The restaurant is a magnificent setting and our table was very welcoming. The menu provided a good choice of starters, mains and desserts, including vegetarian options. The presentation and quality of our meals were excellent and provided outstanding value for money. We were particularly impressed by the mussels for starters, the beautifully cooked beef and lamb, the homemade Yorkshire Puddings and roasted potatoes and the delicious sticky toffee pudding!! In addition, the staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive and provided us with a first class service. We were so impressed with our lunch that we made another reservation for next month! I can't wait!

I have been here a number of times over the years and the new management seem to be striking the right cord with customers. They desreve more credit and some of the meal offers are very reasonable. beware though, the drinks are not cheap!

If you like large, spacious, traditional hotels you will like Dunsley Hall. Only a mile off the main Whitby to Middlesbrough Road and not far from the Pickering road roundabout. Our first visit despite living in Pickering for the past 11 years. We booked for Sunday lunch following a newspaper advert. On arrival we were shown to the very comfortable bar area, lots of leather chairs and panelled walls.Orders taken from an extensive 'Sunday lunch' menu and some ten minutes later shown to our generously sized table in the airy and spacious restaurant which during our stay filled to about 95% capacity.Service was generally speedy, friendly and efficient with only one exception which caused the overall rating of 4 rather than 5 - it may have been that the young waiter was very new but there were no smiles or conversation and when mains were delivered we were not asked if we required sauces etc (mint sauce to accompany the excellent Lamb) before he disappeared at speed. It then took several minutes to attract service attention to ask for our requirement. Its worth mentioning that each table had glasses for water and a huge water jug too.The three course meals were of excellent quality and appearance. The roast meats were cooked perfectly to our preferences which were asked on ordering - we prefer meat to be cooked through rather than raw, no such thing as 'perfectly pink' for us.With no rush to leave we relaxed for some time and resolved to return again soon. There are 3 car parking areas which should take all visitors and guests.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. We will definitely be returning. The menu offered a very good choice and the food was delicious . The service was quick, friendly and unobtrusive. Two gin and tonics, a good bottle of white wine with three excellent courses was only £70, wow! Please try this restaurant.

A group of 33 ladies had booked and pre ordered our main course and desserts. dUnsley hall is in a rural setting and could be lovely. Our dining room was cold, so much so that some ladies kept their coats on for the entire meal. The food took an absolute age to arrive with some people finished befor other had arrived. the pre ordered vegetarian choice had been changed with no notification from mushroom risotto to goats cheese parcel. Would go back or recommend. We didn't stay for coffe as by this time it was way too cold for comfort, excellent coffe and warmth was found nearby at penny Claire's tea room

We visited Dunsley Hall for the third time this year taking advantage of the three course Sunday lunchtime offer. The old hall stands in a lovely sylvan setting with expansive views down to the sea.Without exception the food was lovely and the staff did everything to make our visit enjoyable. We hadn't been to Dunsley Hall for some time and it was such a pleasure meeting the new staff and thoroughly enjoying the delights from the chef and his team.Today's visit was a Valentine Day special with a complimentary glass of sparkling Rose' wine and a red rose for the ladies on arrival.Lynn Watson (manageress) and her team were so friendly and efficient. We will be returning very soon.

Decided to take advantage of the January offer of a three course meal for two and have to say we were delighted with all aspects of our dining experience. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked and presented in the elegant oak room. Staff were polite and attentive and I have noted that the offer continues into February albeit at a slightly higher price but we will definitely be taking advantage of it again. Highly recommended.

Although living locally it was a while since we visited but we were pleased we did. Under new management and with a new chef we had a lovely Sunday lunch. Choice of starter then beef, lamb or pork, we both chose beef. We asked how it was cooked and were told it could come how we liked it - and it did - slightly pink and very nice with a large Yorkshire, roast potatoes and two bowls of veg put on the table to help ourselves. Then a choice of pud. A very good lunch indeed - we will be back for an evening meal.

We ate here during our stay Jan2016. We had a set menu at a fantastic price. It was delightful, especially the Hoi Sin Duck Lasagne starter.

What a find! This has been the loveliest meal we have had this year. The food is beautiful, my husband had haddock and loved it. I had rib of beef and it was just delightful some of the best food I have had. The landlord was super lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were lovely and attentive but not over bearing. The menu gives lots of choice and there is a brilliant gin menu. They are dog friendly too so we all had a wonderful time- thank you. We have booked up for Sunday lunch when we are next on holiday over here. I couldn’t recommend this place enough
