The best restaurants serving British food in West Midlands

Great place and great staff. The only problem with the Flying Standard is that it's in Coventry, but as long as you're just watching the outside from the inside, it's all golden in the world of pub entertainment.

We stopped there for a pint mid way in a country walk. Weather was excellent so we sat outside; they have loads of tables in a large patio by the canal. Quite a nice place to sit with a pint or two in the autumn sun. Despite all of us having ordered drinks, and some of us ordered nibbles, a bloke made a fuss about some of the group having a sandwich they brought with them. Because of this, I may consider a different place to stop when we walk in the area.

Staff was excellent great service and food was excellent great value land lord and land lady was chatting with us made us welcome had food and breakfast there will be returning in November Kevin and Debbie Wheadon

Sam L our waitress was outstanding, helpful, friendly and caring even though she was rushed off her feet in a very busy restaurant. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing and not up to the usual standard (we do visit often). The food was overcooked as if it had been standing for a while, missing items and unappetising appearance.

Tasteless burgers and, believe it or not, equally tasteless chips. This was a big disappointment because I had been there before two years ago, and the fish and chips had been excellent. One other thing: The website says Sunday hours terminate at 9. But no; the restaurant actually closed at 8.

Back in 2021 me and my friend visited this establishment. I treated myself to a southern fried chicken wrap with chips. To my astonishment I was served with the biggest chip I've ever seen. A whopping 13.4 inches. I couldn't help but exclaim 'Wow'

Had abit of a mixup on the order but phoned the restaurant and they sent me what i did order if im honest im shocked they did being as it was so close to closing time excellent service

Never had a problem, always good service. This was true with the owners at that point. I went in a few months ago, I guessed by the fact that there were quite a few people waiting for food that it was under new management. The wait was about 10 minutes, I think it was a Friday and they were completely unprepared, disorganised and were not communicating with each other like a team should. When one customer finally got his food he said as he was leaving "You've just lost a customer." Subsequent visits, they seemed a little better. Tonight, it was not busy at all. I ordered my food and paid. The dude went back to finishing another customer's order who arrived to pick up about a minute after I did. The customer got her order and left. I expected him to start mine, nope, he grabbed a skewer with meat on out of the thing with the holes and went in to the kitchen and returned with it in a bowl. While this was going on his colleague returned from a delivery and proceeded to grab her drink and something to eat, there was a little bit of conversation, I'm guessing about what he was doing and what I was waiting for. She then asked me did I want sauce and salad on burger? To which I said yes. I had to remind her about the Cheese and she forgot to offer me Salt and Vinegar. But then again so did I. Soon after I got my order and left. I was there for about ten minutes. The dude looked like he was in no hurry at all. He looked over at me at one point I guess to make sure I was still there, and did say it would be another few minutes. They need to be faster, be better organised and prioritise better. Deal with the customers in the shop first, they're your main priority, your bread and butter then deal with the delivery orders. In the time I took them to complete my order a snail could've successfully made it across the road.

Emily was our waitress today and she was the most attentive little poppet that we could have wished for making our friends 65th surprise lunch perfect! Thank you also to the chefs for a wonderful Sunday roast, without good chefs the waitresses would have a hard time! Even the young man who came to ask for the table back was a poppet with his sparkle in his eyes! Thank you so much for making the day as super as it was, I think Emily also enjoyed the ‘slice’ (or wedge) of cake!! Thank you and we will be back even though we live in Buckinghamshire!!

Despite its large size the Pump House is often busy and finding a table can be difficult. I ended up in the middle of the pub, crammed among other patrons with no sense of relaxation or privacy. I ordered gourmet steak, rare, but it was effectively medium. I requested two fried eggs and received three (thanks!). I will make a point of avoiding peak times when I return.

We celebrated a birthday here and want to thank the staff specifically Jayne for making it such a special experience for us. Food and staff were faultless. Jayne our server made sure all of our needs and dietary requirements were met. Thanks Jayne!

Stopped here on the off chance and was not disappointed! Friendly team, lovely food and great value. Special mention to the general manager Danielle who was so welcoming and really made our visit. Will definitely come again when in the area!

Great breakfast good price better than expected

Met up with friends and had an absolutely superb lunch today!!! Everybody cleared their plates, fish and chips was beautiful!! Previously I commented on lack of peas asked for 2 pots and request was granted!! Why a larger portion isn't offered anyway is crazy! Will return, a lovely meal was had by all
