A group of us booked in for game night. My favourite of the Specials night so far. Always excellent food. Plenty of it. And fabulous staff. Can’t fault it. Very much looking forward to next months Seafood night. Top quality. Company wasn’t bad either

Stunning meal, enjoyed by all in my group. We would all be pleased to see this whole menu again, absolute perfection for me, the venison was divine. Service also good, well don all. Also pleased to report that The Star now seems to have a ban on Vap's in the building :)

This is a regular lunchtime trip with my other work director and we have one of the lovely filled baguettes which come with lovely crispy fries , fresh salad and home made coleslaw . Service is very quick and all the servers are friendly and smiley . Lunch is also incredile value with two meals for £15 .

Very friendly and affordable home cooked food Very busy Saturday evening but all was well the food came out quickly hot and plenty of it. Vegetarian lasagna was excellent creamy very tasty Salmon and crab linguine extremely tasty smoky flavour as described The men had traditional pies! Also a hit. Too full for puds but there was a good selection Shame no expresso martinis 😂 But we will return

Rated a 2 because the experience was sadly poor. Checked the menu in advance due to anxieties when eating out. Both options I had picked where unavailable, which would have been okay. However I picked the small fish and chips (portion was perfect) and it was gland. The chips were actually fries. The fish itself was bland and the batter was soggy and not crispy. The tartare sauce didn't taste home made and came in a plastic pot. Wouldn:t visit again.

we often have a curry takeaway on a tuesday evening when there is a special price. we like the beef madras in particular.the pies served on Wednesday night at a special price are excellent, full of meat annd very tasty.

We have enjoyed many lovey pub lunches here and this evening we came for dinner in the restaurant. The food was delicious with exremely generous portions and great value. My granddaughter has very specific eating requirements and they could not have been more accommodating. There are a choice of dining areas, in the restaurant, the bar and the garden. The young waiting team were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I would definately recommend The Star, for a pub lunch or evening meal.

The Classic Burger, what a lovely meal, so much more than 'just a burger', great service and always good value and superb menu choices, tink I will try the Brie burger next time. Looking forward to the South American BBQ evening this coming Thursday! Would be 5 stars but for the lingering smell of vap's that are sadly still allowed in the building :(

We had a fantastic family party at the star for 30 people Vicky and team couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating . The food was amazing the staff so friendly and they kept the drinks flowing . A lovely laid back k atmosphere We went there the week before to eat and check the venue out . The good then was fabulous and the service excellent Will definitely go again

Another amazing Sunday lunch at the Star inn at Ashton under hill. Lovely staff who are welcoming and give quality service. The menu had a good variety at a good price . I myself had 2 courses which was roast beef it was perfect I loved the butternut squash which accompanied it. The dessert was also fabulous. Thank you Vicky, Ed and staff

Wonderful Sunday lunch served and presented perfectly. Asparagus tasted sweet and cooked lovely. The mixed meat was of a great proportion and cooked wonderfully. The staff were polite, courteous and extremely attentive. Good selection of cask conditioned ales, served to perfection. Thank you for the all round experience on our 43rd wedding anniversary.

Excellent food, excellent service. Staff are always friendly and cannot do enough for you. Quality of food is amazing. Roasts are great value and portion size is perfect.

Had the belly pork and enjoyed it but on my second trip the steak pie I chose was outstanding since then been at least 7 or 8 times and always have a pie even during the summer the lamb pie and the steak pie are both yummy

My daughter and I went here for Mother’s Day and we weren’t disappointed A warm welcome plenty of time to choose from menu and relaxed feeling while eating Food was delicious I had belly pork cooked to perfection and the dish was so tasty and piping hot. My daughter had steak and ale pie which she thoroughly enjoyed . All the food coming out looked amazing . I definitely recommend The Star

Absolutely fantastic meals last night, six of us went, all the food looked professional and was all excellent. I had the lamb which is reared on their own farm as were the sausages. All beers and ciders were great and all staff are very attentive . I’m celiac and they are very clued up on GlutenFree. The chef made me Gluten Free Whitebait with GF bread on the side . Will continue to support this local traditional pub .

Sunday lunch with our car club . Excellent service and meal. Ordered on arrival and within 10 minutes starters were on the table. Main courses served quickly , lots of vegetables, gravy and sauces etc. The lamb was best I have ever tasted ( understand it is reared on their own farm ) . Nothing was to much trouble . We will return .

Nice place to meet up with family. Great homely meal too. Access to parking at the rear could be signed more clearly, although we managed to park in front of the pub.

A traditional country pub with old school decor but really lovely food and great service. The pies were amazing and the deserts also great. A really homely feel to the food, really good sized portions and that home cooked feel. Highly recommend

What a lovely young man we had serving at the table. Nothing was too much bother, he wasn’t even phased when our dog decided to growl and bark at him. He made the evening even better. Food was fantastic. I had Brie & beetroot tart which was so yummy and very filling. Another guest had a small fish and chips. Well if that portion was small I would hate to see the large one, it must come on a platter not a plate! Sadly due to the size of the meals some of us had to leave some food. A little smaller portions please. Two of the party did manage puddings but I think they were just being piggy. It was very good value for money.

Had a family meal out - seven adults. The menu choice was extensive - and we were all very satisfied with what we ordered. The food was very tasty with big portions - perhaps a little too big. The service was first class with the young man serving the food especially good at his job. He was very bright bubbly with a great sense of humour - a real delight to be served by him

We had hiked from Broadway to Ashton Under Hill and this place was highly recommended by a fellow we ran into during our hike. You need to check first at the bar to ensure the tables are actually available though. They did find us a spot although the place was super busy. The servers were very friendly and prompt. We were allowed to do some testers of their sparking ciders before ordering. Our meals were very good and we enjoyed the vibe. We would recommend this pub/restaurant.

We dropped in to the Star Inn for an early lunch on Tuesday. Staff were friendly and helpful. There were soon a number of tables occupied. Beer was good. I had the fish pie which had been recommended by our campsite owner and it was stacked with fish. Others had a different pie, linguine and gammon. We all loved our food. As well as enjoyable hearty food it was good value.

A return visit after several years and The Star is as good as ever - probably better. From the minute we stepped in and greeted by a very pleasant young lady behind the bar I knew we were right to return. The two different ploughman's were excellent, very good quality cheeses and ham, beautifully presented and enormous portions. The fish and chips were excellent, pure white fish - what more could you ask for. There was another delightful young lady who asked if she could get us anything and then returned to check everything was okay. Food and wine extremely good value for money, as I said before I only wished we lived nearer, so thank you to everyone at The Star.

My husband and I were on holiday and wanted to go out locally, for Sunday Lunch, somewhere that we could take our dog. We were advised to try The Star Inn and we were not disappointed. The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious! Everything was cooked perfectly & there was plenty of it. The staff were all friendly and nothing was too much trouble! Service was prompt, efficient and delivered with a smile! They were very accepting of our extremely excitable puppy too! We enjoyed the whole experience very much and will definitely be back. Passing this pub on a drive and stopped for food, extremely friendly staff they couldn’t of been more helpful, the menu looked fantastic I went for thick cut gammon, quails egg and chips with a pineapple chutney my partner going for the fish and chips. When it came out it certainly wasn’t what I would could thick cut gammon and was missing the chutney I asked for chutney to be told they had ran out and was offered an alternative. The food was tasty and the fish cooked well. Would recommend for good pub grub but the menu does make it come across a lot more fancy than what it actually is.

Fantastic food and atmosphere. Young lady doing 3 jobs at a time serviceing food and poring drinks plus taking orders. We only live 5 miles away I don't know how I missed this pub. I will be coming back with friends. I will let very one know how great this is. Cheers Glenn and Susan

Ate here on a busy Friday evening but service was extremely efficient. All our meals were really lovely and the portions very generous. Would definitely eat here again if we are ever in the area.

Went for lunch with my husband. He had sausage and mash. Not sure where they get there sausages from but the where like supermarket ones, mash had far to much butter in it and the gravy was watery. Peas where missing. I had the ploughman’s it was missing the chutney and the presentation was not good. No one came back to check on us or we would have said about the missing items. The staff where very friendly when we talked to them but we would have a dessert if they had came back. A lot of customers going to bar when I do believe that they shouldn’t at the minute because of covid. As we where leaving a man went to the bar with his glass to get another drink and the girl said same glass and put his drink in it. I feel like that goes against all of the covid rules as his mouth had been on the glass and she put it under the pump and the nozzle was in the drink.

Me and my wife had an evening meal. All the food was fantastic with great service and value. The fish pie was one of the tastiest I've had. Large portions so you won't go home wanting more. Give it a try.

So glad to have The Star open again. Ed runs a fab pub, great food, great drink, and a great place. Locals and visitors mix, all are welcome. Spread their wings through lockdown with shop and takeaway, a real heart of the community. We will be back again and again. Cheers!

Booked a table for 5 people for my wife’s birthday, and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome by the waiting staff, drinks were ordered and we were seated outside in a covered dining area and with our own table heater! Great menu with locally sourced ingredients and wow... the starters, mains and puddings were really well presented and tasted fantastic.Children’s menu was exceptional value and again very high quality ingredients and presentation which my son devoured.All the staff were so helpful and understanding of our requirements, and we can’t recommend The Star Inn highly enough!Thank you and we will be back!!Simon, Alex and Ollie

I was out walking in the area with my daughter recently and I came across this place. There was no seating inside due to the lockdown restrictions. However, there was plenty of seating outside with benches a plenty. The sun was shining too.We opted for sandwiches for lunch. I had the Bacon Brie and Cranberry and the little one had Tuna and Sweetcorn. They came over as baguettes, cut in half, with a healthy service of fries and salad. They were over £6 each but were substantial and we could only eat half of them, taking the other half home in a doggie bag afterwards. I had a large lager shandy and she had an orange juice. After all the difficulties with lockdown it was great to get out for a walk. In the pub there was plenty of had gel, staff were wearing masks and there was social distancing. All the tables outside were well distanced from each other. We spent some tome here just chilling out. There is no car park as the pub is situated on the main road in the village. Lovely little village pub and after an energetic walk between here and Overbury sitting down for a simple bite to eat was refreshing. Payment was contactless too. We paid about £18 for the lot. Expensive for a sandwich but after the lockdown, who cares.

The takeaway pork belly meal is just amazing , the mash alone oh my and then you tuck into the meat with perfect crispy cracklings , black pudding and the sauce . Incredible meal and enjoyed every morsel .. well done Chef

Tuesday night booked earlier in day. Car park at rear. Covid precautions are good.Surroundings are nice piped music not too loud. Staff friendly and efficient.The 10 oz rump steak was excellent in every respect and the Thai burger was very good indeed. An excellent meal

Had another great night at The Star in Ashton under Hill.We all really enjoyed the meals (and drinks, obviously). Sat outside initially (using their patio heaters) and then was comfortable enough to go inside. Ordered everything via their text service and was really very impressed considering how labour intensive these strange times are. Will definitely be going back soon!

Food was ok but generally overcooked. Roasts were very hard to cut. Chicken was nice. Service was extremely slow albeit staff were polite. We were sat in the corner and weren’t checked on once, had to ask for more drinks repeatedly, the bill, were planning on having desserts but had sat waiting for service for so long we didn’t bother. Wouldn’t come back.

Well set up for COVID with well spaced tables, one way systems, staff masked and tables regularly cleaned. Clearly dog friendly with water bowls by most tables. Service prompt, food very good, nice sized portions and well priced. Will happily visit again when next in the area.

Really impressed. Only had the ploughman’s and for £6 if you brought two, we were not expecting much, but have to say this was probably the most generous and tasty lunches we have had in a long time.Staff were very friendly and would definitely visit again if in the area.

We love this pub - the food is good and well cooked, the beer is excellent, the building attractive, plenty of outside space. The staff are friendly and obliging - altogether a good atmosphere. At the start of the lockdown, the owners set up a pop up shop for the village which they have kept going,stocking good quality mainly local produce, an assortment of beers and such, and most importantly their own super sausages. Well done to everyone.

Visiting family and wanted to take out with neighbours who assisted during COVID so took us to their local. Where they been using for takeaway.Great service and quality of meal. Staff were very courteous and apologetic for Fish being off due to lunchtime rush.Lovely atmosphere and was a great recommendation and happy to recommend to anyone else visiting area as locals know.

I came here with my family (7 adults) in August and had a lovely meal. Everyone was very happy with what they ordered. We sat outside and were able to see the menu on our phones, text our order in and didn’t have to move from the sunshine once. The service was very prompt and our waitress was lovely. A lovely spot for some evening sunshine and a pint!

This is a great, independent village pub. We have been happy customers for years. We live locally and tonight we have enjoyed excellent fish and chips and benefited from the government half price scheme. It is a family run pub and Ed, Vicki, and Joel deserve to be proud of their efforts. The pub became a community shop during this coronavirus chaos, and we relied on their volunteers to deliver all our food at the beginning of shut down. Now they have shown more enterprise by adopting the Government scheme. Many thanks and well done for all your efforts. A lovely staff and good food. You are all Stars!

Ordered takeaway service for Sunday lunch which was excellent. Two beef dinners and one chicken dinner plus three sweets. Delivered on time and great meals, plenty of everything, well cooked, tasty and excellent value, highly recomended.

We called in to The Star after a walk around the hill. We were shocked when the cost of having two half pints came to £4.60!! Didn't stay for another. Shame as we have often called in when out that way.

A friendly welcome and a roaring fire. Lovely meal. The crispy chicken burger was really crispy. So often crispy coatings can be soggy but this didn't disappoint. The curry was good and so was the fish pie. Desserts were generous portions and yummy. Excellent value for money.

Came for Curry night, had a lovely selection of starters followed by four curries, lamb and butternut squash, beef jalfrezi, Chicken Korma and a vegetarian Chickpea and Cauliflower Curry served with rice and naans and a bottle of beer, Followed by Mango sorbet and Coconut ice cream. All for a bargain price of £16.95. Looking forward to next months special which is fish night on Thursday 26th March.
