I came here with a few friends after a lovely walk along the canal, however after ordering drinks we were told we couldn’t have food as they couldn’t fit us in. The pub wasn’t very busy and all we wanted was sandwiches and chips. The owner kept checking on what we were doing and as soon as one of us finished a drink they took the glass off us which gave me the feeling we were not welcome there. I was with 9 of my friends which means they have lost 10 people from coming there again.

Went to the fir tree inn on Sunday 22nd April 2018, it was good to see that the pub was open again as its been closed in the past due to flooding. It was also very encouraging to see that they welcome walkers as its in the country and offer plastic coverings for muddy boots.

Phoned to book a table at short notice on a Sunday for two adults, child and baby and the lady was very helpful and kindly fitted us in. As the restaurant was fully booked she asked if we minded a window table in the lounge area which we said would be lovely and probably more suited to our active one year old.

We came for Sunday lunch on 15th October. The 6 of us had a lovely time. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The portions were very generous, a good selection of side vegetables all cooked lovely and served piping hot. The desserts were lovely too. The menu was very simple but it ensured that the food was cooked to a very good standard. The service was faultless and I would highly recommend for a Sunday lunch

This pub is located in the rural district of Droitwich and is close to the local canal which after a little rain finds the towpath a little muddy. Having gone for a walk and then deciding to end the afternoon having a nice pint in what appeared a really nice establishment my party was gobsmacked when asked to remove slightly muddy boots so that other people already in the pub were in stocking feet. This was a strange request considering the floor was uneven rustic tiles which could easily have lead to someone slipping over or worse still cutting their feet on the cracked and raised tiles. Perhaps the landlord might like to consider putting a boot scraper or hosepipe outside. First and last visit due to the way the request to remove footwear was requested by the landlord.

Recommended by friends, and encouraged by good reviews on this site, our booking for a table for four was made for the evening of Saturday 6th February. First impressions were very good; a warm and friendly welcome, pleasant and very clean premises together with a well balanced and varied menu as was the wine list.Starters of BBQ ribs (shared by two) and whitebait were delivered without undue delay and enjoyed by all along with the chosen wine.Main courses comprised Roasted Belly Pork (for 2), Chicken Coriander & Coconut Curry and a Venison Wellington. Following delivery of the mains we waited a further five minutes, with rapidly cooling plates, for the accompanying vegetables and potatoes. A further minute or so was wasted waiting for the two portions of chips ordered before we started eating. The chips did not arrive, and we were almost finished before any staff arrived back in the dining area to ask us if everything was to our liking. The missing chips were pointed out and my wife indicated that her Belly Pork was cold and tasteless. We requested one portion of chips which duly arrived, and the staff disappeared once again only to return eventually to clear our table. I have to say that my Venison Wellington was thoroughly enjoyed though its description in the menu as tender pieces of meat wrapped in puff pastry should be amended to "one solid chunk".No effort was made to apologise for the manner in which our meal had been spoiled and it was left to us to seek assistance from a bar attendant to receive our bill.Nine others dined in the same area along with us and our impression was that the young staff, though competent, were acting without proper direction. Rather than sit in the bar area with further drinks we paid the bill in full and left - a disappointing end to what had initially looked to be a promising experience.

We'd not been to The Fir Tree for some time - no particular reason except sometimes you just get out of the habit. Going for lunch one raw January day made us wonder why though.A warm welcome, a menu with plenty of choice, good service and nicely presented, well cooked food all made for an excellent lunch. We both opted for the battered haddock and chips which, together with a tasty sweet, a coffee and a drink each came to a shade over £40 which for the quality, we thought represented good value. We shall return soon even though it's not on a main road nor in an area which we often frequent but it's well worth making the effort, even if means a slight detour from our normal route.

Went here for Sunday lunch with a friend early October - he wanted to go as we had had a good meal here a year or so ago. We opted for the set Sunday lunch - 2 courses for £13.95. The starter, field mushrooms with cheese, was good-looking but tasteless. The only think on the plate that tasted of anything was the salad dressing. Even the cheese didn't taste of anything. The main course was roast beef, and what came was the kind of roast-beef you get from a caterer - pre-sliced and warmed up in a hot cabinet, with packet gravy. The veg were OK, if not overly hot, with some nice roast pots.Served on long rectangular plates, it was all a bit of a disappointment and for £14 I expect better than that. We wished we had gone to Morrisons. The pint (Corninsh tribute) was excellent.

We went with friends for a meal. It's been a while since we last went. The decor and bar area was good, service was good but the food was average and on reflection we should have sent it back and given the staff the option to replace it. The lamb tangine was very dry and undercooked no sauce, from my experiences of having tangine's, they are cooked for hours and melt away. The cheese board was lacklustre. The fish some of the party had was good.We may go back but probably for drinks

Went to celebrate a good friend's 50th Wedding anniversary. It was a surprise do and there were about 30 of us. We ordered in advance to make it easier for them and the service was good. The food was excellent and there was a decent choice. I had a beef and ale pie and my wife had the haddock. The cost was about £12.95 for the main course and there were other mains at higher prices. You could say that is expensive for fish and chips or pie and chips but they were both very good and it is a pleasant environment in which to eat, so I think it would be churlish to say that. Would I go again. Yes and I would recommend it to others who wanted a decent meal in good surroundings but not formal so you could just relax and enjoy the occasion.

I used to come here regularly many years ago. In those days we would sit outside surrounded by magnificently planted tubs full of beautiful colourful flowers. Times changed and the beauftiful flowers disappeared and we stopped coming.I did stop by a year or so ago but the place looked unappealing so we found somewhere else to have lunch. We came this time as a result of reading good reviews. The pub is very smart inside these days although the dead daffodils on the window sill spoiled the look a little bit.The menu is not particularly exciting but good enough. My partner had a steak pie which looked appetising and I had mushrooms in a cream sauce which was o.k although I have had better.Service was a wee bit slow in view of the fact the place was more than half empty but we were not in a rush and so it did not matter.I would come back again but there are several equally good pubs closer to home. However, this well presented pub is in a good country location and worth a visit if you fancy some country air and a stroll in the nearby woods which look spendid when the bluebells come out.

After researching local pubs and hotels to find a venue for our family Christmas meal, The Fir Tree Inn had the best price and menu options that suited all. Welcoming staff and gorgeous venue. We were all impressed with the quality and quantity of food especially catering for so many of us all in one sitting (15 adults and 2 children). The home made chicken liver parfait was delicious, better than your average pate, huge portions of meat and veg cooked perfectly and a variety of deserts including cheese and biscuits that didn't incur any extra cost that you so often find. And to finish it all of, home made mince pies with the most delicious crumbliest pastry included in the price. Thank you for making our once a year family gathering a success. We shall definitely be back to sample the usual menu.

My search for the perfect steak and ale pie and pint continues .. This pub is definitely worthy of consideration . It was unusual to find this pub so quiet on what should be a busy saturday night , i can only assume that this is because its a little bit off the beaten track . If this pub was on a main road it would be packed solid based on the quality of the food . What a treat it was to be told that without booking we could get a table at 7.30 on a saturday evening . The service was excellent , the staff were both knowledgable and helpful . I had the beef and ale pie washed down with doombar . This was a great pie , good pastry and gravy - certainly rates as one of my favourites . The rest of our party reported food was excellent - they were particularly fond of the steak . The menu at the Fir Tree has good variety. The food itself is good -- not great, but good, especially for this class of pub/restaurant. I must say that the staff are rather amateurish. They try hard but are obviously well intentioned young people put in to a job with little real training. The only serious negative is that this place does not accept American Express cards -- really unfortunate for a good grade of restaurant.

Mushrooms to start but they were taste less and served in a runny so called cream and Stilton sauce it looked and tasted like water no cream and a distinct lack of Stilton. Our main course was a sirloin steak 8 oz what meat there was was nice but more fat than meat, disappointing. Liver and onions though was fantastic. There were several different menus to suit relevant occasion. We decided on a light lunch and I chose the cajun chicken salad which was delicious. My wife enjoyed a more than ample ploughman's lunch of very tasty cheeses with pickles to match. The shortfalls? Well, after all, the manager did ask if everything was ok - and we could only reply that we'd had to ask for the butter and decaffeinated coffee was not available! In the light of his apology I don't think even that will be a problem next time.

We were a party of 9 ladies on a narrow boat holiday and we had booked this pub for our first night on the canal. It was a very pleasant surprise to find such a nicely furnished and welcoming place. Although we were a late in arriving the landlord greeted us warmly as did the waiting staff and didn't put us under any pressure to order even though a very large party was expected shortly after us. We ordered starters and mains and a couple of desserts. All the food was delicious - particularly the steak and chips - and very good value. We would not hesitate to return.

Ate here in August 2013 and again during the Easter 2014 break, having been turned away from the Bridge Inn a few miles along the canal. Moor-up just below the bridge after Dunhampstead Tunnel, and a short walk into the village brings you to this smart pub/restaurant. Inside it is well laid out, staff are well presented and friendly. The food is excellent and good value. Unlike some other pubs in the area, they have a phone that works, they answer it, they take reservations and they serve food between the hours they say they do.

There's often a "but" , so let's have the good news first.Went in a party of 7 on Sat evening, following refurbishment after the floods, the dining room and conservatory are very pleasant. Proper restaurant layout, with the pub drinkers (and live music) in separate areas, a good layout.Service was excellent, pleasant and friendly girls working well. Without boring readers with individual item details, suffice it to say all food was as described, well presented, and properly prepared, everyone was either very happy, or actually delighted.Overall bill was a few pence over £30 per head, and this covered 7 starters, 7 mains, and 4 desserts, and there was plenty of drink taken as well. I'd rate value for money as excellent. So where's the "but".....But, 3 of our party had chosen carefully from the on-line menu, and were disappointed to find the Vension dish had disappeared from the menu. When we asked, we were told that the menus had recently been updated, and Venison was no longer on it. Fine, change the menu, but change the online menu to match. To tempt customers in with items that have not simply run out, but are actually no longer listed is unacceptable.

I can't understand why this place is so far down the trip advisor rankings, especially given the number of distinctly average eating establishments in town offering microwaved packet meals on 2 for £10 offers. This is a very nicely fitted out, very friendly place offering good home cooked food. Its not small portion modern bistro style, it's just traditional food done well. The other halfs steak was perfectly cooked and better / cheaper than the local beefeater by a country mile. Would definitely go here again.

We decided to visit the Fir Tree on the last night of our short stay nearby. Wish we had gone sooner. The pub itself is very welcoming and the restaurant beautifully decorated. We both had the sirloin steaks which were cooked to perfection and accompanied by proper chips. The staff were very courteous and pleasant and I would not hesitate to come back or recommend to anyone

Enjoyed a great Sunday lunch in this charming location on a sunny January day. We had the Sunday roast which was perfectly cooked and presented. Great spot for lunch or just a drink combined with a walk along the canal. Always welcome too as a walker or cyclist. Highly recommended

2nd visit to the Fir tree situated next to a tow path. We arrived in two cars and parked in the completely empty car park with the intention of mountain bike riding then returning to the pub for lunch. As we were unloading the bikes the approached us landlord asked if we were using the pub. We said yes we would be back for lunch if that was okay. He informed us that the kitchens would be closed at 2pm sharp. On our return we were greeted with signs everywhere telling us to take our boots off or put the bags provided on. I had changed my shoes to clean ones and so walked in. The landlady glared at me and my bike clothing. I explained that I had changed my shoes but I was still greeted with a hostile stare... I then told her how nice the pub looked after the refurb. No eye contact, no smiles just a blank stare and a shrug while she muttered that a lot of money had been spent..She was completely unfriendly as she poured our drinks then constantly walked round straightening chairs & tables as if she couldn't wait for us to leave. We all decided that asking for food was probably not worth it and we should go somewhere else. The pub was absolutely empty on a Saturday lunchtime and I can see why. It's a great shame when they have obviously put a lot of effort into the decor and the pub is in a great position. None of us will be returning.

I was looking forward to a night out after a busy few weeks. Myself and 2 friends decided to treat ourselves to some time together catching up. I ordered a steak but asked for a jacket potato instead of chips. I was told I would have to pay extra for a jacket potato. We couldn't believe it. The waiter said he would check, but came back and said I would be charged extra. Shocked, I said I wouldn't pay and instead I asked for a steak and salad. I was then told I would be charged extra for the salad as the steak came with peas. In the end they agreed I could have new potatoes with a salad garnish. In addition to this we had ordered 2 side orders of garlic bread for a starter. When they arrived it was 2 small pieces of ciabatta (each about 6-7 cm long). We said to the waiter we had asked for 2 portions and he said this was both portions! I would never ever recommend this pub to eat at again. To be charged extra to have a healthy option is absolutely outrageous and a disgrace.

For a welsh man to praise an englishman and his wife the service has to be good which it always is ,the food well thats down to the landlady and her team and is always well presented hot and a menu that does actualy change on a regular basis.Beer, lager and especially the cider is well worth the drive, walk ,cycle there. very close to canal so dogs(border terrorists) love a nice long walk, smelly bath in canal then flake out in fantastic beer garden just waiting to pounce on that cat....Staff who on the whole are young(most people are compared to me)are always polite, well turned out and always have time to chat. The firs seems to do some very good theme nights only been to one so far as this is our first year of long dog walks along canal and a few cycle rides, would like/hope to see some more, just about to book the Christmas menu,New years looks a cracking deal with transport chucked in but unfourtunatly will be on holiday in Florida (someone has to do it)So from a Welshman and his wife and borders who has a liking for the cider and as she always tells me is a fussy bugger congrats to the Firs, trust me folks you wont be dissapointed unlike those of you who support the local rugby team.Diolch

We dined at the Fir Tree on Saturday 10th October 2013 as a party of 8 - ages ranging from 6 years to 90 years. The Pub is very well presented and there is a lot of space between the tables in the restaurant which is really good. There is a very good a la carte menu and also at before 7pm menu whichalso has a good choice. The wine list has a good selection which aren't overpriced. The staff were very helpful in organising a non a la carte meal for my elderly mum which made her very happy.Service was good not too long a wait for starters and the main courses were really delicious. The restaurant was fairly empty that evening which surprises me due to the quality of the food and service. We would definitely go back

Husband's 50th birthday and a real treat to be able to have great food served up for a family group of 26. It is often difficult to please everyone and present food piping hot but this was effortlessly achieved and everyone really enjoyed the lovely conservatory setting of this recently redecorated canalside country inn. Perfect place for a meet up with friends and family for sensibly priced quality dining.

Visited midweek recently, an old favourite. Starter and steak menu for £12 is excellent and massive portions - I had pâté then burger. Friendly staff and excellent selection of ales - Freedom Lager on draught is a real find. Recommended

Had a very pleasant evening , modest priced set 2 course meal (£12 for 2 courses)and staff and patrons really friendly. We passed it when on the canal in the morning and later in the week drove back for supper. I've had better gastro pub food, but good honest fare and on a sunny say the garden and a stroll by canal would have been fantastic. I'd say stick with the basics and you couldn't go wrong.

Today 33 ladies attended the Fir Tree Inn for a fundraising lunch for St Richard's Hospice. We had an excellent two course meal at a very reasonable price. We had the conservatory to ourselves and everyone was very pleased. We were served by two young waiters who were very friendly and did an excellent job in looking after us all. Martyn the proprietor donated 3 bottles of wine for our raffle to help with our fundraising. This is the second Ladies Who Lunch we have had at the Fir Tree, and have booked to go again. The service and food are second to none. Well done Martyn, Tracy and staff.

This once was our favourite place for a carvery. Booked a table for 24 when we arrived it was for 22 the plastic cover on the carvery defeats a carvery it's ridiculous and slow service we all ate at very different times. Claim it's for hygiene the person serving had some dirty tshirt on and the girl was flicking her hair behind the screen I get it's hot but take the plastic screen down for God sake and let customers help themselves definitely will not be returning as its the 2nd bad time we've had now and it's quite an expensive carvery for the service. Very disappointed our whole table were disappointed. Also why put the sauce at the beginning of a carvery? Have to push back all through the queue to get to sauce

Had a carvery lunch at Norton Grange today, somewhat reluctantly after a poor experience in the summer....pleasantly surprised to find it outstandingly good!Gorgeous, perfectly cooked & generous portions from beef and gammon joints and a wide choice of vegetables which were well cooked and beautifully presented. The new head chef has made a massive difference to the food quality and it is unrecognisable from what was on offer a few months ago. Prompt and friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere. Spread the word, the Norton Grange is back!

We were looking for somewhere for a big family lunch that was central for us all to get to from around the country. So, I didn’t know what to expect but from the start Jane and Andre were incredibly helpful and came up with a lovely fresh menu of seasonal food. We had a room to ourselves and had a great afternoon out. The food was delicious, and Jane and Andre did everything to make us feel welcome and relaxed. Even though they both must have been very busy getting us food and drink they never made us feel rushed and nothing was too much trouble for them. There were some very good wines and beers and also a great selection of no/low alcohol drinks which was welcome as so many of us were driving.
