This used to be the best pub in Bridgnorth and we eagerly awaited the re-opening. What a disappointment. What used to be a good old fashioned pub, with excellent beers and wonderful staff is now the complete opposite. Yes the renovations have made the inside much better and the outside space is looking really good, but the pub somehow has lost its heart. Staff never smile or interact with customers. The beer is hit and miss, whereas under the old owners the beer was always superb. Just shows there is a skill to keeping a good cellar. There are fewer tables inside and smaller tables for 3, making it harder to get a table. On our visit, tables near us weren’t cleared for over an hour. The only positive were the toilets, greatly improved but I don’t want to spend the evening sitting on the loo! We have been 3 times now since reopening and our last visit was the same as our first. Disappointing.

Absolutely love this place. James and his team do a fantastic job providing great a service in a beautiful pub, with a lovely outdoor area. The young man who was working behind the bar tonight was very professional when dealing with a very annoying local man and was complimented for his patience by quite a few customers. Can’t wait until we go back

I miss the old White Lion! The staff aren’t welcoming now - and those rolls/baps are dreadful. The outsider seating is wonderful, however, and it’s an ok place to go if you just want a drink and a bag of crisps ……….

Recently renovated and an excellent job done particularly in the garden drinking area. What a shame to experience very surely female staff, poor quality cobs, cheap sliced supermarket ham, tasteless cheese and not red onion. I was charged £19.60 for a pint of decent beer a glass of indifferent white wine and two horrendous cobs. What a rip-off! Not a patch off the previous owners, friendly efficient and serving their own beer and scotch eggs to die for. As a local I was very disappointed and will take a big improvement before I re-visit.

Just opened after renovation. Two people waiting at bar, gone to order coffee, response from a rather frosty woman behind the bar 'too busy to make coffee' only one other person waiting at the bar, and two bar staff. Dont come if you are a driver and want a hot drink. Also kitchen not yet ready to do food. So only cobs available. Was looking forward to coming back but now wouldn't rush back. Fancy coffee machines on display, display being the operative word!!

Lady serving at the Bar completely indifferent, not friendly at all. The gentleman behind the bar was positively friendly. We had pie and chips. Not served on a plate! Separate dishes for pie and chips. Having said that the pie was very nice. Very cosy inside. Won’t be going again. I do not like going in pubs where you are made to feel unwelcome. The White Lion has a table booking system, you can walk in if they have availability but best to book. Dropped into Bridgenorth on the way to family for Xmas. Wanted a little bite to eat and after discounting three other places popped our heads through the door of the White Lion. A Porter beer was only one of a number of many specials on offer was consumed with gusto along with the Scotch Egg with Black Pudding, and all whilst sat next to a nice fire and friendly people was all we were looking for. A fantastic pub of the like we have lost too many of in recent years. We need to go and stay in Bridgenorth so that I can check out more of the beers and the rest of the Scotch Egg variants.

Been coming here on and off for years now and have never had a bad experience. The draught beers are always fantastic. They have a large variety to choose from. The Bridgnorth stout/porter is a particular favourite of mine, especially with a steak pie from the local butchers to go with it. The homemade Scotch eggs are also fantastic. The pub is always welcoming, particularly in the cold darker winter months with the fire crackling away makes it very warm and inviting. Great place to watch the rugby. Only complaint is that it gets so busy! Can be difficult at times to get a seat.

Visited the pub on a Saturday lunchtime having taken a journey on the Severn Valley railway. The Bridgenorth porter my husband drank he said was delicious and I enjoyed a lovely glass of new him, but the icing on the cake were the most delicious, warm freshly made scotch eggs. I have never tasted one quite so tasty and we wished we'd also tried another flavour (as they had 3). The pork pies were also freshly made and were flying off the shelves. Well done to somewhere cooking absolutely freshly and getting their reward from the people, like us, who were obviously enjoying them.

When I sat down the beer hadn’t cleared it was cloudy I gave it a few minutes and decided to take it back. I discreetly told the landlady the beer was cloudy she replied it was fine but would change it if I require I said could you change it please. Then whilst pulling me my new pint she said that’s the trouble with drinkers today they drink with their eyes and not taste. I’ve been a camera card holder for years

"Pie and a pint for £4.95" and a place to read the paper while Mrs Foxache trawled the shops lured me in. A well kept IPA and a pleasant enough beer garden in which to enjoy it. Never been more applaud by someone's attitude. They had a new starter who was lovely, asked the manager a few questions, who for the most part ignored her or shouted the answers at her. My last review of the White Lion on Trip Advisor was exactly 2 years ago. I gave it 5-stars then and I have no hesitation in giving it another 5 stars now. I only wish other pubs could be so welcoming and offer such good service and drinks. I happily travel from Shrewsbury with my friends every couple of weeks to do some shopping in Bridgnorth and visit this pub. The ambience is great. I have, though, only been on quiet days and I understand the pub does get very busy, understandably, at weekends. Good beer, good cider, good company. An open fire, stupid dogs and eccentric locals. What more could you ask for? OK, probably the best Scotch eggs I have ever tasted - plain, black pudding, cajun, chorizo etc.... all cooked fresh. The food menu is small and limited to rolls, pies, scotch eggs etc but is top notch 'filling' grub. Sam the landlady and Jaime the barman are the 'stars'. Curl up in front of the real log fire and enjoy the atmosphere of what a proper, traditional pub should be like.

These were served with a salad garnish of peppers, onion, carrot and lettuce. Well, mine consisted of the better part of half a pig (or so it seemed) of delicious hot, lean and beautifully tender pork and the other one was of similar proportion of very nice sharp cheddar cheese and tomatoes. Both of these 'snacks' came in at the princely sum of just £2.75. Absolutely brilliant and even more so when you consider the pub stops serving food at 2.00pm. Highly recommeded.

I booked in for a night here as I just wanted a cheap nights B&B, I really struck lucky, walking into a really good proper pub, very busy but staff friendly and polite, The home brewed ales went down a treat as did the pie & chips. The room was basic but the bed was comfortable, maybe helped by the beer. I will be back when I next need to be anywhere nearby.

For anybody who enjoys a good English pub with an exceptional selection of local beers this is the perfect choice. Friendly and welcoming, it's a traditional pub of the type that is sadly hard to find these days.

My family and I had the chance to visited this pub on a recent trip to Bridgnorth and we were greeted with a warm welcome from the bar team. The food is exceptional value for money with a no frills Ploughman's Lunch coming in at under £5.The pub has a nice selection of guest ales plus beer from their own brewery company, Hop & Stagger Ales.If you like your food plain and simple with the promise of good beer and a good welcome, give this pub a try.

We have just had a meal in this pub if you go to Bridgenorth in Shropshire just walk on by this pub. They had a special on a pie and a pint for £4.50 my husband said could we have some chips with it and the chap serving said you only need 1 bowl between you that's more than enough for 2. Was he right I had 2 chips I have never tasted chips as bad. They tasted as if the fat they had used had not be changed in a long time. The pie was dried out and the pastry you had to saw to get into it. We sat outside as the weather was lovely but every table had a dirty ash tray on it. Not good don`t go there.

Fantastic pub, Fantastic staff. Fantastic food. The best Sunday lunch we've ever had. The food was out of this world. The staff were amazing. The service was second to none. Will definitely be back soon

Stopped here whilst visiting Shrewsbury for the day. It was a good looking place, clean with shaded outside seating - vital as it was a scorcher. The food was incredibly good value for the delicious meal we had. High quality, large portion size and friendly, helpful staff. Recommended for visitors to the area.

We were recommended this cafe and we weren’t disappointed. My husband and I had the ‘Chocks Away’ full English and as the delivery guy hadn’t been yet we had home made hash browns which were fabulous, and the eggs were double yolkers. Our friends had scrambled eggs on toast and had mounds! Highly recommend this place and the view was great.

Our first visit to Oxon Priory. We had a warm welcome from Dawn & Holly. Food was piping hot and very tasty. We will definitely be coming back and recommending to family & friends.
