My wife & I booked a meal at The Oak Room, Albrighton Hall Hotel near Shrewsbury, as this was where we had our wedding reception - 20 years ago! The hotel looked magnificent as ever & it was great to visit this stunning venue once again. On arrival, we were greeted by Keah & Alex. Both looked after us brilliantly throughout the evening & knew that it was our wedding anniversary. Both Keah & Alex were so helpful, professional, polite & their level of customer was exceptional. Nothing was every too much trouble, whether it was asking details about the food listed on the dinner menu, taking photos for my wife & I of the evening or generally having a nice conversation about our wedding day & how lovely it was to visit again. The food was absolutely delicious & every course was very well presented. When desserts were ordered, a lovely touch from the chef & staff was an oval plate with two chocolate brownie bites upon it & the words 'Happy 20th Anniversary' underneath in chocolate sauce - wow! It truly made our evening. Thank you so very much to Keah, Alex & the chef at The Oak Room. We will certainly not wait another 20 years to visit you again, as I am sure we will be back over the coming months. Once again, thank you so very much.

I ordered mackerel fillet to start and belly pork to follow. Mackerel fillet was the size of little more than a postage stamp, belly pork overdone and broccoli underdone. Wine was good though

Do NOT choose the mushroom gnocchi… the biggest waste of £17!! Waited over an hour for a stater sized main portion to arrive. It was lukewarm at best, had 12 !! Yes I could count them bean sized gnocchi and a small collection of mushrooms. A completely disappointing meal, when I raised the issue of the temperature of the food I was given a response that people do find the portions quite small. So obviously have had similar queries. I had to raid the car afterwards for my son’s snacks as was still starving.

Was shown to a table eventually having waited for someone to check us in. Told Self service everything - not a great selection only had scrambled eggs on offer and produce poor quality and overcooked. Tea and coffee came out of a machine which was not great and tasted odd. crockery tiny. So by the time you had made your own toast returned it to the table got a tea which was very slow and got your breakfast everything was cold. Overall if we were staying here again I wouldn’t opt in for breakfast you get a much better quality and cheaper in town. We did hear others saying the same unfortunately.

Stayed as b&b but had a meal. Ordered off the menu. Asked what was in it. Was advised by the waitress so ordered. Omg she tried to kill me. Had to leave to be sick. Not at any point did she say the meal had pasta. I'm wheat intolerant & they did not cater gluten free. It was supposed to be king prawns with toms & peppers. Never again. And the breakfast was not good either. Salty bacon. Wheat sausages. No eggs. Cheap beans. We used up vouchers we had for xmas last year. Lovely area. But not best hotel restaurant.

I have tea with interest the previous reviews. We found the experience very good, firstly the staff were really really good, very polite and extremely nice. We shared the ox cheek starter which very good and both went with rump steak, again very good. Room is lovely a and old to sit in, although if u sit near windows they can be draughty (we asked to move which no problem), overall very impressive and absolutely no issues from this reviewer😀

What a complete and utter mess of a facility. Totally disorganised, inefficient, ineffective and poorly trained staff, food that was nothing better than disgraceful and loud music and flashing lights left unattenuated throughout the meal. Though 'meal' is a misnomer. The vast majority of food on dozens of plates was uneaten and went to waste because the standard was so poor as to be inedible. Soup nearly cold and served, bizarrely, with thick sticks of raw, unpeeled green apple floating in it. Main courses consisting of vegetables heated, but not cooked and as hard as they left the field, accompanied by disastrously overcooked, barely warm, flavourless meat and thin as water ‘gravy’. The desserts were no more than a further insult to customers and, again, many went uneaten. Then there were the courses that appeared and were later taken away without even being seen by the intended recipients as they had been delayed so long at the bar, trying to buy vastly overpriced drinks. One bottle of red and white wine were available per table, but they were sufficiently grim as to be well matched to the food. From my direct experience, I would suggest that this establishment does not deserve custom and should be avoided at all costs. It would surely be better closed as it exists and put into competent hands whose aim extends beyond cynical exploitation. One of the worst, if not the very worst 'dining' and 'hospitality' experiences I have encountered. The claimed four stars would seem to be the product of someone’s fantasy and certainly misrepresent the reality of this farcical shambles. Do yourself a great favour and go elsewere. And I mean anywhere.

We were staying in the hotel with friends and had booked into the resturant for the evening meal. As numbers staying were low we were put in the bar area which wasn't as charming as the oak panelled 'Oak Room' in the description. Nevertheless there were plenty of choices on the menu and the food and service were excellent. Would have been nice if they served decaf coffee but otherwise a great dinner.

We were offered a 3 course meal with our little break and expected a cheap version. Absolutely not. The soup was fulsome and tasty, obviously home made. Whilst not the largest of options, there was something for every one. The pasta was filling and tasty, the lamb fell off the bone. Puddings were good too. Limited menu although they do also have a vegan menu if you ask for it. They offer a three course menu for £30 which I feel is a little on the expensive side for basic fare and expect to pay a supplement for many dishes. The wine i, I feel, a tad pricey.

The evening meal was poor both in quality and choice. There was only the one fixed price menu and no a la carte, and apart from one soup of the day and one catch of the day the menu stayed the same. It was most definitely not worth the basic £30 for 3 courses and to add insult to injury a £9.95 supplement to have an 8 oz rump steak of only average quality and a £4.50 supplement for cheese and biscuits - the only option for a diabetic - was frankly outrageous. Only 2 items per course did not incur a significant supplement. Furthermore side dishes of what should have been basic accompaniments to the meal incurred a further charge of £3.25. The saute potatoes served with my fish were inedible.Had there have been another easily accessible restaurant or pub near to the hotel we would not have bothered to eat there the second night of our stay.

Unfortunately no apple sauce cold be found for the pork. The pappardelle was a little disappointing, just not very tasty, the Parmesan substitute was quite leathery. The pork was a bit tough and was overdone. I think this met the filling a gap need but I'm afraid that's all.

Many guests get the meals as part of the deal when they book.Pros:SpaciousLovely roomNicely presented table.Food well presented.Menu doesn't have too much choice.Polite service.Cons:The food was not quite as special as it was made out to be - for example, the 'slow roasted beetroot' tasted just the same as ordinary beetroot. The salad appeared to have come from a bag you can buy at most supermarkets with a dressing then added. When I asked a question about the food, the waiter didn't know and made something up. I asked him to find out by asking the chef. When he returned he said nothing until I asked him again and then he just repeated the same unconvincing answer. The question was about why a specific dish was called a fondue and the reply was that he thought it was the type of cheese. The meal for two (starters and mains with no wine) cost just under £54.

We tried this for dinner while staying at the hotel. Overall the food was fine (although in my view not close to the Michelin quality other reviewers thought) but the service was pretty eccentric, verging on Fawlty Towers. The restaurant was pretty full the night we were there and the staff struggled to keep up standards. We asked for bread before ordering and it was so slow coming it arrived with our main courses (and they charge extra for bread). Although our bottle of wine arrived promptly and was placed in an ice bucket, no member of staff came anywhere near us to pour it so we ended up serving ourselves. The food was fine but nothing special - we tried scallops with pancetta and prawn cocktail as starters and hake and duck for mains. They were competently cooked. With ice creams and sorbets as dessert, we paid £63 before drinks which was pretty good value. Overall, worth trying if you are staying at the hotel, but wouldn't be worth making a detour.

My friend and I visited Albrighton Hall on Monday for afternoon tea. The grounds of the hotel are lovely and the entrance to the hotel nice and welcoming. We were shown to the Oak Room where a table was set for the two of us, lovely view over the gardens. We had sandwiches, cakes and the most lovey scones and a big pot of tea. It was very enjoyable - the cost is £14.95 per person but being a member of the Gourmet Society, we were able to get two for one. If honest, although lovely, I think it would be a tad overpriced at £14.95 each but as a special treat, worth the effort as its nice to do. Staff were very friendly which made a difference.

We booked to have an afternoon tea for 7 peopl at the Mercure Albrighton Hall Hotel and Spa and we were extremely disappointed!! We got 2 tiny slices of one type of sandwich each, which was on dry bread with the most mundane fillings. At least they had put the sandwiches together as everything else on the plate was store bought and out of a packet!! The scones were alright but the dry and badly cut fruit cake and banana loaf were shocking! The Gluten free options had also been dropped on the plate from a packet. This is not what is described on their site and I am amazed that any hotel would serve this especially a 4 star hotel. It was also pretty hard to find the waiter and I had to keep going to reception to request water or butter. A super disappointing experience that I wouldn't recommend. We didn't stay at the hotel or use the spa facilities so can't comment on any other aspects of the hotel, but we certainly wont be back to try them out.

Defensive manager does not value feedback! This place will therefore not improve. We visited the restaurant as believed it to be part of a good quality complex. Our arrival was greeted cheerfully and we were shown to a 2 seater table. That’s where any notion of customer service ended. My partner went up to the counter to order a starter and 2 meals…. Our drinks arrive promptly. …tick tick… 20 minutes go by. People who arrived after us start getting their meals… …tick tick… I go over and ask what’s happening. I’m told “It’s busy“ …tick tick… I ask again. “It’s busy.” More people who have subsequently come in are served. Eventually the manager (who I saw looking at tickets behind the kitchen) came over with our mains. No starter of soup. What followed was incredible! She insisted that the cock up was our fault! Apparently, the lack of soup was because she could not possibly know what was ordered, what should be a starter and how many people were at each table. That excuse would work in a service station, but we are talking about a place that charges handsome price’s commensurate with table service - but with no table service. We will never go back.
