A very well renovated building with some period features. A smart bar and restaurant, with good outside space too. The food is gastropub, with mains around the £17-£23 mark. The staff were friendly and helpful, with a good selection of local beers. The food tasted great and was well presented.

Really awful experience here. We booked a table for 9 and received a booking confirmation. We were then emailed to ask us to confirm the booking, which we responded to instantly. We were then asked to call to confirm the booking, which we replied that we could not do as we have no phone signal in the countryside but we emailed confirming the booking again. The next morning we were again asked to phone to confirm the booking in response to our email, and advised that if we did not call in one hour they would cancel the booking. One hour later they cancelled the booking with no personable approach or reference to our situation that we had no phone call. We then called the pub three times as they requested and they did not answer. It went to voicemail advising that we need to book online (which we did). We have not received a response. We have found this incredibly rude and careless of them, and will now be asking people to avoid this place...

First visit to the Baron, but we'll definitely be back. Everything we ordered was excellent, even the Ciabatta, Olive oil and Balsamic was perfect. Plenty of choice on the menu, I'm vegetarian so I opted for the roasted Cauliflower - Loved it. Desserts were excellent, decent wine, really couldn't fault it. It's a lovely place as well, nice atmosphere and the service was spot on. Well worth a visit.

From start to finish The Baron was an excellent discovery for a two-night, quiet getaway. The hospitality was discreet, yet attentive; the decor was smart and at the same time suitable rustic; the room was warm, comfortable, quiet, and well-appointed; the view was delightfully rural; and the food in the restaurant was tasty and well-presented, and both breakfast and dinner had varied menus. It was a real pleasure to be there and I'd definitely go again. Highly recommended.

We visited the Baron at Bucknell for our Anniversary meal, and we weren’t disappointed. We had their Christmas menu, and I was delighted to see a lovely vegan meal on there as standard - something that still isn’t available everywhere. The flavours were excellent, and the food was well cooked. My omni husband went for the turkey, which he said was tender and moist. The restaurant was delightfully decorated for Christmas, it was warm and cosy, service was friendly and efficient, and the food was excellent, so it gets full marks from us. It wasn’t cheap, but we felt it was worth it, and we would definitely visit again.

Wanted a getaway for a night close to home. What can I say...it was amazing. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a lovely friendly smile. Such a knowledgeable lady as well on drinks etc. Had a drink by the bar and not overpriced at all. Room was beautiful and so so clean. Everything you could want in a room....Fan...ironing board...toiletries...fluffy towels..tea/coffee etc. Had an evening meal in the restaurant. I am a fussy eater but the food was spot on first time and lovely. Couldn't fault a thing. Had some cocktails as well. Can't comment on breakfast as we didn't have any but was £15 a person. Nothing was too much trouble. For me one thing was missing and that was a dressing gown but thats my personal preference. Would definitely stay again and recommend. Looking to go back in December. 🙂

We love the Welsh/England border country and have a handful of hotels we use regularly. After our first stay at The Baron it will be added to our list. The hotel's setting in the village of Bucknell, in a wooded valley is breath taking. There are excellent secure car parking facilities. There is a welcoming reception with the lounge bar and a separate public bar. Dining facilities are excellent, whether outside on the paved and lawned areas or inside in the two storey restaurant or the double height sunroom. We stayed in Room 1 which was a good size with an excellent en-suite. The attention to detail can only be appreciated by staying there. Certainly one of the nicest bedrooms we have stayed in for quite a while. We ate in the restaurant with its insitu grinding wheel a real feature. We ate here with the 50% eat out the help out scheme. We both ordered a chicken & spinach madras as they had sold out of steaks. We asked the waitress how spicy it is (as madras curries are usually really really hot) but she said it had a little kick which is what we like. Perhaps it would be better to call this a Balti on the menu as that’s what I could compare the spice to. The curries were beautiful and the naan breads were amazing. The curry’s are £14 and a naan bread is £3 so £17 for a curry is a bit pricey (thankfully we had 50% off this). I would say the naan bread should be included in this price, however we both had a very good meal! Staff were friendly. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our order to be taken so my partner went down and politely asked and she was up straight away. We understand it was a busy first week of doing the scheme! Didn’t have to wait long at all for food. Very good service!

Despite the usual UK March cool and damp, we enjoyed a really great couple of days at the Baron in one of their delightful garden rooms. This gave us the best of both worlds - the quiet/privacy of self-catering but the ability to hop and skip into the Inn for a generous, tasty breakfast and evening meal. We could be as sociable as we wanted but, having just struggled through house renovations, we needed to snuggle and chill. The garden rooms are suites - massive comfy bed and sofa with TV positioned to keep both happy; a mini kitchen area with fridge, coffee machine and useful set of crocks. Generous clothes storage including for outdoor gear. Underfloor heating throughout adds that extra level of cosiness in bedroom and shower room. The hot tub is right outside on the private terrace overlooking the natural swimming pool, sadly too cool for me in March but enjoyed lingering and lingering in the hot tub. Some great walks from the door, taking in river and forest or the short walk to the local station offers even more. Whether you want restful or romantic the Baron at Bucknell will deliver.

I had lamb and my husband has rib eye steak which was excellent. There wasn't too much on the plate which I liked and the gravy and sauce were on the side in a very small saucepan. Would definitely go again.

This was our first visit, for Sunday lunch. We were a party aged 12 - 80 and everyone enjoyed the food. The prices are fair considering the setting and quality. The staff were very friendly and helpful and open to constructive feedback which to me is a true sign of a business that is genuinely concerned for the customer experience. We were helpfully printed off a guide to a nice little local circular walk (a leisurely 45 minutes or so).

Stayed at The Baron this weekend in one of the garden rooms, what a fabulous place! The Lodges are finished to the highest standards and are totally spotless. Surrounded by beautiful and peaceful landscapes and having a natural swimming pool, superb hot tubs overlooking rambling sheep filled fields it truly is heavenly. The lodge was filled with all mod cons both inside and out. Each night we ate in the hotel, good food was served (nothing elaborate) but quality!! The staff were awesome, a family run business, even the children were involved and did a fabulous job. Will definitely return!!!!

Took my parents out for lunch. Was absolutely spot on! The staff were thoughtful and helpful, the meal was really well paced with plenty of time between courses for us to all feel unhurried and relaxed. Food was all freshly prepared, and it was a refreshing change to have homemade puds rather than mass produced, and usually disappointing, offerings. Coffee was served with homemade shortbread biscuits, which was a really nice touch. Portions generous, but left room for pudding. Cheeses local and delish. We were able to linger over lunch for the best part of four hours with no sense that we were an inconvenience. A really lovely lovely pub/restaurant. Will definitely be returning!!! @£25/head for three courses and coffee, for well presented and really excellent home cooked food.

Had lunch here with hubby and son. Two of us ordered the shoulder of lamb, which was really delicious and melted in the mouth. It came with a lovely rich minted gravy. The ratatouille it was served with was a great accompaniment. Son’s burger was thick and juicy with a very generous portion of chunky chips. Only complaint was that the service wasn’t very friendly or welcoming, but that didn’t detract from the high quality food that was served.

Had the most delicious Sunday roast at the Baron. Perfect roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and a tasty variety of vegetables all cooked to perfection. The puddings and ice creams were excellent also. The service was very good.

We have been twice now once with friends where we had a lovely meal and the service was excellent. It is a lovely place if difficult to get too and I can imagine it being really nice in the summer. Second time food again excellent but service was very hit and miss depending on which of the staff served us.

What a beautiful place. The rooms are beautiful and have everything you need for a very enjoyable stay. Lovely touches such as chocolate and home made biscuits. Room are immaculately clean and spacious. Bed was so comfortable. Love the colour scheme. Our friends stopped in one of the luxury rooms with a hot tub. These rooms are amazing with a very spacious wet room and room was beautifully furnished with large tv and fire. Absolutely beautiful. The views from this inn are lovely and it is so quiet and peaceful. Phill the owner was very welcoming and all the staff were friendly and helpful. This is one of the best places I have ever stayed and we will definitely be back again. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and the food was lovely. Good variety on the menu and service was excellent. Highly recommended.

Not a great ambience or greeting to workmen or groups of two-three men who just want a quite drink. The bar staff aren't welcoming and the impression is quickly given that if you aren't dressed-up and dining - your not welcome. The food menu is limited with high prices.

A big thank you to Debbie, Phil and the whole team for a fabulous dinner. All seven of us found the food wonderful and the service was very good. We had pre-ordered T bone steaks for the men and the ladies had the menu steak or the braised beef. Couldn’t fault anything.

Nice place and ambiance. Food was good but service painfully slow. Bit quicker service and things could have been much better. If they had been honest and said they were busy but maybe brought some nice warm bread rolls then it would be OK. pity because it could be very good

We stayed at the Baron for one night in October. It is set in some amazing countryside with lots of walks going from the Baron, very picturesque. We stayed in room 1, it was beautiful, modern and spotless. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room too. It is a family run place which was nice. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was delicious and piping hot. Breakfast was lovely too, some homemade preserves and granola and the cooked breakfast was amazing.
