Lovely food, I had the cauliflower burger and my wife had the salmon fillet. Both fresh, well seasoned and well cooked. Very generous desserts and great service also pretty reasonable by todays standards! Great location with good views of the quarry and the river. Very nice waiting staff too. All in all, a great experience!

The restaurant was lovely and outdoor area was vibrant, however wasn’t too impressed with service and, the time it took to serve our meals and not to mention two of our dishes came out cold (chicken skewers). I definitely think the staff members do not have clue on services and, check on customer happy with their food. They were just standing around and talking to one another.

We had a lovely later afternoon/evening on Saturday night. Part of the boathouse weekender event. Staff were helpful and friendly. Food was ordered at the bar as we sat outside and arrived quickly at our table. Highly recommend the pepperoni wood fired pizza with hot honey and the Taccos. Best Pizza combo I've ever tasted. It was delicious. Wish they had this on the menu all the time. Atmosphere was a dream and we enjoyed the live music. Maybe more of an Ibiza chill style music would have been more my preference but you can’t have it all! All in all a great place to be in Shrewsbury.

A special mention for Matt, who served me and my friends food and drinks at the bar, it was very busy and food couldn’t be ordered whilst someone else was ordering off our table, however, got our food ordered as quick as possible and made the afternoon that more special for us.

Dear Thomas, A much-delayed thank you for hosting a family celebration at the Boat House. It was a complete success! Everyone who attended had a brilliant time. So much of this was due to your meticulous planning and asking us all the right questions. Everything went to schedule with excellent and plentiful amounts of delicious fresh food. Your staff were all cheerful, attentive and efficient. Much can go wrong at such a large event, but we got very lucky in choosing the Boat House and the weather was a bonus, making it the perfect setting. All the small details were thought of, including supplying cardboard boxes for any leftover food. Thank you so much Thomas and your wonderful team. We shall be back again! Kind Regards Clive and Karen

What a disgrace. We ordered the Charcuterie Board for £20 which was awful and tiny. The garnish you can see in the picture is described on the menu as a dressed salad. The cheese was not much bigger than a cheese triangle and smaller than the butter portion. The portions of bread and meat were tiny and were stale so much so the oil, relish and butter were hardly used. We also ordered a jug of sangria which came warm in a bottle with no ice made from J2O. £44 in total. Absolute rip off

Three friends one dog booked for dinner, sat at a lovely table outside but inky after arriving at the bar to be told we had to leave because of the dog and walk downbthe road and through the outside gate as the dog was not allowed to walk through the inside.. Tye staff in the garden were great, attentive, friendly, and efficient. Water for the dog was the first thing offered, followed by our order for drinks. The presentation and service of the food were excellent, but the skewers and the linguine were somewhat lacking in flavour but that may have been due to three kitchen staff dec8fing to black the ramp next yo our table and scrub the area with a yard brush.. The smell of ammonia was overwhelming. This really did detract from what otherwise had all the makings of an enjoyable evening.

Pretty much as my title describes. Customer service needs to come from the heart. Simple things like smiling and attentiveness to the needs of the customer always help. Here it felt like the staff were just going through the motions. Food was good. Drink selection needs improvement. Staff need to be given some direction but my guess is their leadership team don’t care.

Chose this place for nice location. Booked a table outside. It took a waitress 15 minutes to attend the allocated table.then a further 20 mins to get two pints ?!? Then when our third guest joined we had to holler a waiter to get three drinks. These never came after 20 mins.Had to ask a different waitress to follow up n our order. No feedback. Then asked a third waitress to follow up with our drinks order. 35 mins later nothing appears. So we gave up! Thought No point in ordering a meal ( which all looked exepensive but not interesting on the menu) so we left (after paying for the first two pints at the main bar) We got fed up waiting!!! Goodness knows whatever happened to our second round of drinks. They just never appeared. Hopeless table service. This establishment is badly run. Busy, and with huges queues noticeable for the two main bars to get served . I will never return on a busy Friday or Saturday. 1* is being generous.

Sadly the bad reviews on service are spot on! We ate here Saturday night, food was very nice, well the mains were, I don't know about the starters because as we chose to sit on the terrace to eat we were informed that if you order starters they will come out with your main!! "That's just how it is" we were abruptly informed!!!...when the mains arrived they were plonked on the table while the abrupt served walked straight off, no "would you like anything else" we then tried to get the attention of one of the 3 servers goofing around playing with their hair to dare to ask for pepper, there were 3 of us and we had 2 sachets chucked on the table, not a word spoken and the girl walked off!! Didn't realise there was,a pepper shortage!! And when we mentioned could we have the heater on we were abruptly told " there's blankets in the box".....quite possibly the worst service I've ever had!! Will definitely not eat here again!!!

Relies on its location, fell down on food. Had a table outside where I was informed there is no waited service and had to order at the bar. Fine no issue with that. However after reading the menu the 4 of us decided we were having starters and mains, but was informed when ordering that the food will come out in any order….as and when ready. I said your menu says starters not tapas and was told this was irrelevant and so we went with it. And true to the warning, some main courses arrived before the starters and eventually everything we ordered was on the table. Ridiculous that they can’t organise this in a busy pub/restaurant. We did question ourselves after, but didn’t think of it at the time to order each course separately. This would have resolved it and if they insist on not being able to manage this basic task of serving food in order (which every other establishment I have been to can)then maybe they should advertise and communicate this themselves. Still after all a very odd situation. After all that the food was average, I had linguine crab and prawn which the sauce had split with the cream and had no evidence of crab, burger I was told was ok. Charcuterie board again ok. Nothing clever or special and spoilt by the odd decision to not be able to be served starter and mains separately.

Food was great, service was shocking! When we arrived we were shown to the wrong table ( I had physically gone in a few days before to show them the tale I wanted overlooking the river at the front for 5 people ) the waiter took us to a table for 4 at the back by the toilets! When I queried it he said the table for 5at the front was reserved for a birthday meal and I said yes mine! The food was lovely but nobody came back to the table to ask us if we would like another drink or a sweet and our plates were not cleared away, then when we asked a waitress if we could see the dessert menu she said the kitchen was closed!! I said it was my birthday meal so another lady not in uniform took our order and came back with 3 wrong desserts! It really spoilt my birthday celebrations, we won’t be coming back!

I ordered an 'open' hummus and red pepper sandwich which turned out to be half a bread roll with humus and pepper on top, the coleslaw didn't even fill the egg cup sized container and looked like it had been thrown in from a distance, and the extra portion of chips were exactly 15 skinny fries on the side of the plate. I probably will not be eating here again and definitely would not recommend it to my friends. Apart from that it was just ok with regards to service and atmosphere.

Came in for a drink with a group of friends. The bar is well known by most of us as we love the usual vibe of the place. The barmaid (I won’t shame anyone with a description of the girl) was so rude and short with us all. She looked most of us up and down, stared at us as if we were a huge inconvenience and also made some of us feel very uncomfortable as we chose what drink we wanted. We all commented after, on how incredibly rude she seemed. We all have bad days, but this was really not welcoming at all and made us want to take our money elsewhere!

A surprisingly good meal at the Boathouse! Whilst I've eaten here many times over the years, I can't remember having anything particularly special. However, the halloumi caesar salad last night was amazingly good. My friends chicken burger and arancini dishes were also well received. We were showed to our table then waited 25 minutes to be seen, but I had to get up and ask if someone could tend to us. In the mean time I grabbed my own drinks from the bar. When I booked the outdoor terrace it is advertised as basically an outdoor restaurante yet we had to endure people standing all around us drinking, seemingly on a night out, which the serving staff tended to without fail as we patiently waited to even get a drink. We also had to eat our food while another table was allowed to openly vape in this so called seated ‘eating’ area. As far as the food goes the Camembert sharing was nice, but not really hard to get wrong🤷🏼‍♂️ but the burgers at around £16 each, we left. They were burnt, cold, and I’m pretty sure we had the cheapest bag of chips going. I then had to look for someone, again, to pay and when I raised these issues with them - because there was nobody around when we were eating, was just told she will pass it on to management. We were provided a 2 hr time slot and we were there 1.5 hrs but only because it took a full hour to get an order taken and a starter brought out! Real shame as I booked there as a surprise for a wedding anniversary and travelled from north wales to Shrewsbury for a night away. We will return to Shrewsbury but never to the Boathouse

We had travelled to beautiful Shrewsbury for a family day out, and having eaten at The Boathouse before, decided to go there for lunch. Plenty of empty tables, inside and out, despite it being lunchtime… disinterested, quite rude staff; 40 minute wait for food with one meal coming out 15 minutes before the others; overcooked food (maybe reheated leftovers from the day before?); drinks being delivered to the wrong table; inedible condiments that had clearly been left outside and were past their best (packets of salt and pepper were solid!); dirty toilets - not the best experience at all. I think the worst thing though was the constant stream of staff visiting the ‘staff only’ area on the decking (very close to our table) to smoke and vape!!!!! Absolutely disgusting. Management need to up their game and open their eyes to how this establishment has gone downhill. The riverbank position is not enough to rely on when everything else has fallen below par!

I don’t know what’s happened here. We used to visit the Boathouse often and have recommended it to many people. As we hadn’t been for some time we decided to drop in for lunch. What a huge disappointment. It’s been painted out in a cold grey colour. Absolutely no atmosphere. It’s the Boathouse for goodness sake, one of its big attractions is the beautiful river view. The only view now is the top of an enormous white marquee which completely obliterates the windows. All this might have been alright if the food had been better, but it really was very poor. The fish in batter had been fried with an inch of its life, being very dark orange and tasting overcooked. The belly pork was dry and stringy and the crackling was a rubbery strip and the base couldn’t be cut through with the blunt knife. I don’t like overcooked cabbage but this cabbage had only been blanched and they might as well not have bothered showing it the water. The dauphinois potato was charred. The coffee was disgusting. My partner sent the first one back and it was replaced but the second one also tasted like burnt dishwasher and neither of us could drink it. We passed our comments back to the chef and he sent his apologies, but it might have been quite nice to have seen him. Presumably he didn’t dare leave the kitchen in case, something else, overcooked. We felt sorry for the lovely young lady who had to hear about all of this when none of it was her fault. She didn’t charge us for the coffee, but we were charged in full for the meals and they were not worth the money. I suppose we did eat most of it because we were hungry and as neither of us are in the habit of complaining we were halfway through the meals before we spoke up even to each other about our disappointment. So as we ate it, I guess it was reasonable that we paid for it, but I’m afraid we won’t be going back to the Boathouse for another meal, unless we hear better from other people and they give us back the view. Oh, and there is no Internet. No Wi-Fi.

Me and my wife have come to this lovely setting a few times now and have really enjoyed our visits! The staff are so lovely and are always smiling, very attentive too. We had the pan fried chicken and the belly pork for our last visit here, the food is incredible! We have booked twice but came in on a busy Saturday with no booking and they managed to get us a table! I would highly recommend trying the food, they have nice drinks too!

Shrewsbury, a town that holds a special place in my heart, is a destination that I don't often get the chance to visit. However, when I do find myself in this charming town, I always make sure to stop at the Boathouse. The Boathouse offers a unique sereney right by the majestic River Severn. Especially on the seating area outside. But it's just the stunning location that makes me wanting to come back; it's the exceptional service provided by the staff that truly made my experience unforgettable. In particular, I must commend one of the waiters, Conner, for his warm and friendly demeanor. He went above and beyond to ensure that my visit was nothing short of extraordinary. Conner, with his genuine enthusiasm, recommended the signature beef dish to me. I decided to trust his judgment and give it a try. And let me tell you, it was a decision I will never regret. It was cooked perfectly to my liking and it's something I'll definitely have when i go back hopefully at the end of month. But it's not just the food that makes The Boathouse a must-visit destination. It's the combination of the great town, the warm and welcoming people, and the breathtaking scenery that make this place truly special. Shrewsbury, with its rich history and picturesque streets, is a town that exudes charm and character. If you find yourself in Shrewsbury, I absolutely implore you to check it out. 🙌🏻

Visited on Sunday. £17 Sunday lunch is great value, service was decent, simple and efficient. Wait time was perhaps a little long, but for a busy Sunday that’s what you would expect.

Food was tasty, however extremely overpriced. Service was terrible, manager was rude, over heard him saying he feels like being mean to customers today. The bar man that served us was very helpful (think his name was Luke). Played Christmas music really loud whilst we were eating our dinner (IN FEBRUARY). won’t be rushing back anytime soon!

Not great. It was a bit last minute, wanting a town centre comforting Sunday lunch after a tiring week. Having rung Lion & Pheasant, Anchor, Golden Cross, Armoury ++all fully booked I, ill advisedly as it transpired, rang The Boaty. No problem getting a table and it was good a while back; hopefully it’ll improve before the Spring or receipts will be way down. Slow service, a mixed bag with the staff, some switched on and capable, others disinterested.. The Sunday Roast was just about OK. The risotto was not as described- the rice variety wasn’t right for risotto, the Parmesan crisp was missing entirely(replaced apparently with a desultory grate of the same stirred in) and the rocket was actually a smattering of coriander. Shrewsbury is blessed with a selection of excellent mid range eateries, The Boaty isn’t amongst them. For confirmation take a glance at other reviews.

I ate at the boathouse last year and had a great Sunday roast. Beautifully oven cooked succulent chicken breast, loads of different vegetables, a side bowl with extra greens etc - a really good meal. Went for our first visit of 2024 and there were only a few other tables taken. Ordered the chicken roast again and waited over half an hour to receive our meals. The chicken this time was a tiny, pan-fried, flat, dry, coated-in-grease piece of meat, caramelised and crispy on the top. It was rubbery and chewy and more like something you'd expect at 2am at your local kebab shop. No bowl with the extra vegetables and the veggies on the plate were much smaller quantities, fewer varieties and not very well cooked. The price tag was £17, and it was quite frankly an insult to have it served to me. We went as a treat, and no one likes feeling ripped off. The waiters were puzzled by my rejection of the meal, but asked me to choose something else. I then waited another 10 minutes for another meal which was average pub grub, nothing special, and not why I had made the effort to visit - I wanted a good roast! When we came to pay, I was overcharged for the replacement meal which had to be amended. The chap who dealt with the bill still seemed to question the issues with my chicken roast, and seemed oblivious to how abysmal it was. I suspect that's why it was mostly empty. Not sure what's happened since my last visit, but I won't be visiting again - far too many other good choices in Shrewsbury.

Food ok, but small portions- especially the Brie starter. Not worth the money, and not a great atmosphere on New Years Eve.
