We recently had our wedding at The Lion Hotel, and had a fantastic day. All of the staff were brilliant, very friendly & helpful. The food was fantastic and a variety of dietary requirements were catered for, with no problem at all. During the planning Noel was excellent, he clearly knew exactly what he was doing, he answered all of our questions quickly and made us feel confident that the day would go well. On the day Noel & Alex helped to calm our nerves and put us both at ease so that we could really enjoy our day without having to worry as we knew everything was taken care of.

Amazing place, the hot chocolate was delicious. We had a mini mouse desert and wow was delicious! The man was so helpful and joined me up to their VIP rewards scheme which has saved me loads online!

Recommended by the b&b and what a brilliant recommendation that was. Went for an early meal and stayed 3 hours. Food was delicious and large portions- we managed a pudding despite that. All staff friendly and helpful, if we didn’t live 60+ miles away we would be back next week. Just what a pub should be!!

Called in on a Tuesday night at the beginning of December, and trust me I understand that it’s a difficult time of year, but also January and February are harder, so why close down the bar at 7.45 and make it obvious you’ve had enough because there’s no way we will want to come back in the new year, if you have had enough so early on, other pubs just up the road are full so it’s about attitude and welcome and not you’re “privileged “place in the town which probably costs your managers more.!!

The squirrel is usually mine and my partners go to restaurant in Ludlow. Everytime we went it is always good quality food and service at a reasonable price. We decided to take our friends who were visiting from Lincoln here on the 28/3. All seemed normal at first and we appreciate that it was a Friday evening and we managed to set sat as a walk in. It all started normally we were sat and a drinks order taken punctually. Once we ordered our staters (only two we were sharing one between couple) they took around 45 mins to arrive (one plate of 3 chicken strips and one cheese and mushrooms). Again this did not bother us as it was the weekend and we appreciate it was busy. We then waited around an hour for our mains again not the issue the server apologised. The issue came when I went to take a bite of my steak and it was stone cold. I confirmed with everyone in the group that this was the case and I wasn’t being over dramatic. Now I have never ever sent anything back in my life so I was a bit apprehensive about doing so. My boyfriend decided to go approach someone for me as I have quite severe anxiety. He approached a middle aged lady with short blonde hair wearing a floral top black jeans and white converse and said “excuse me my girlfriends steak is cold” very loudly she said “and what do you want me to do about it” which left my partner stumped for words. She then stormed over and stood behind me repeating “and what do you want me to do?” The really made me so anxious. She did offer to have it remade but I didn’t really fancy waiting another hour especially since everyone in my party were nearly done. Eventually she suggested she take it off the bill which I am very grateful for. Whilst I was waiting for the other members of my party to finish their food I overheard her say to another customer “my shift was meant to finish at 8” I am very empathetic and understand it really sucks so much to stay behind after your shift, I worked in hospitality I understand it’s frustrating when you’ve already been there for 9-12 hrs. I just think announcing to to customers- making them feel guilty for coming in and taking it out on other customers is not the way to go? I didn’t even receive an apology which is the worst thing just a half assed “I’ll feed it back to the kitchen”. The irony of the fact is where we were seated was under a recently acquired award for customer service. I wish the gentleman manager was there. Just so disappointed.

Had dinner with two friends on a Saturday night. It was quiet and we couldn’t understand why. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and cosy with a nice fire. The small team looked after us extremely well and we had a very enjoyable evening. My English friend was raving about the quality of the food, she said that it was exceptional for an English pub to serve such good food. We thought it was good value and a really nice experience. Thank you.

Firstly, I recommend you reserve here rather than just try your luck and walk in. At 7pm on a Monday night, most tables were occupied. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our mains ( steak and kidney pudding and burger ) but I must highlight my dessert. . . hot chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream. . . delicious. Nearly ordered a 2nd one. Sian and Chris served us attentively and professionally. So to sum up, fairly - priced, delicious food, prompt service in a lovely

We have visited the Blue Boar on several previous occasions when visiting Ludlow and have enjoyed the ambience but this was the first time for a meal. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The menu was varied and catered for all our tastes. The food we had was tasty, plentiful and hot. We had an enjoyable time and look forward to a return visit.

Attend for some Sunday lunch, there was a queue due to the fact nobody was clearing the dirties off the empty tables. After a lengthy time waiting for a table we were shown to a table which was cleaned after we were seated. We then had to queue again to order food, then waiting a further 35 minutes to be served up dry beef burgers and jacket potatoe with no edible skin or butter ? The waitress asked me if everything was ok I said No and she walked off to serve someone else. A big 0/10 for food / organisation & value for money

Visited with friends for Sunday lunch. They'd been before for lunch (although not on a Sunday)and had enjoyed it so we took a chance. Nicely busy but no issues getting a table, although I wouldn't go much after 1-1.30pm for Sunday lunch as you may miss out. Great tasting coffee and the blackberry stout was amazing. Sunday lunch is superb - 2 of us had turkey and 2 had gammon. Everything was cooked just right - the roast potatoes were great and good selection of veggies. 3 of us ordered extra cauliflower cheese but we would have been fine with just 2 for the table - I'd definitely recommend it, made exactly how it should be and really tasty. All the food was piping hot, great portions and excellent value for money. The pub is dog friendly too.

We made a booking for dinner at 8pm and then when we arrived we were told the kitchen was closed and they were no longer serving food… Apparently, they had been closing the kitchen early since January, but just wondering why we were allowed to make a booking if this is the case? It was a waste of our time and meant we were left hungry and had to try and find somewhere else. In the end, we were glad to not eat at this place and had a nice meal elsewhere. I can’t comment on the food (after not getting to eat any) but the place looked dirty, smelt greasy, the staff looked like they hated being there, and we waited a long time to even be acknowledged when we arrived.
