Another nice meal at The Tuns, steak and moussaka, all staff lovely. Like Castle Resident, I find the 2 star reviewer’s comments somewhat harsh. Having been given a replacement meal, why expect to get it free if the replacement was good? No complaints from them about the food, which is always good in our experience. Wobbly table? Come on - the pub is almost 400 years old, with wooden flooring, put a beer mat under the table leg. I don’t leave bad reviews, only 5 stars based on what the venue is trying to achieve. The Tuns isn’t aiming for gastro pub status but it is a good pub and the food is good, with staff always aiming to please, and we have rated 5 stars on this basis. Come on everyone - if you have had a nice meal at The Tuns please leave a review accordingly. The hospitality industry in general needs all the help it can get, not uncalled for negativity.

Visited yesterday for a lovely Family Lunch (5 of us), Staff were all on top form, main meals were lovely (Lasagne x 2, Minted Lamb, Halloumi Burger & Scampi), Desserts were lovely as well, particularly the Chocolate & Toffee tart with Salted Caramel ice cream. The Pub was increasingly busy (we booked for Midday). Had a couple of lovely Pints of Timothy Taylor Landlord, also on offer were Butty Bach, Three Tuns XXX and HPA, There appear to be some reviewers on here with rose tinted spectacles when it comes to how the Pub is now, the Pub has never been perfect no matter what era you talk about, the draught beers provided are all excellent , the food is excellent and the Staff may have the odd "moment" but 99% of the time are nice people. And just in case people don't know, for a bit of clarity the Three Tuns Public House has been privately owned since 2003 in the hands of Scottish & Newcastle (Starbars/ Heineken).

Table was sticky to the touch and wobbly. Two or three flies flying around our table made it an unpleasant setting. After finding a hair in my son’s meal, the dish was returned. A replacement dish was provided but no one offered any sort of apology. Upon leaving, the dish was still included as part of our bill along with the usual three complimentary chocolate sweets. I asked if was expected to have to pay for the dish that we had such a bad experience with. The bill was taken away and replaced with a bill, minus my son’s dish. Still no apology and now also minus one complimentary chocolate sweet which I think is beyond petty and is the reason I have made the effort to write this review. Really poor customer service in my opinion. I am also annoyed as we could hear the waitress at the table next to us offering complimentary drinks as a dish was late arriving to their table. I also felt sorry for the young waitress that was left to deal with our situation herself. Not her fault. Poorly handled by whoever the shift manager was at the time. I couldn’t wait to get my family out as quick as we could.

Somewhat apprehensive having read a few recent reviews but in the end it was pretty good. We ate twice in the evening during a recent stay in the area. They accommodated a party of 9 on the first occasion and I cannot criticise either the food or the service. It is pretty standard pub grub but was piping hot and served with a smile.

We are very regular visitors to the pub but haven’t eaten here after such a poor experience a year ago. However, tired and hungry, we decided to stop for a snack before heading home after a long week in the town at the arts festival. Amy was efficient and charming (great work, thank you), such a huge improvement on previous visits. Our order was swiftly taken, the food was delivered in good time and was fresh and hot. As always the ale was perfect. Let’s hope the pub can maintain this standard of good service. Very happy this time, thank you.

I’m so upset for the poor girl wearing the pink trainers :( all I could hear for a majority of my stay was him not only shouting at her but swearing just being so nasty , she was upstairs working with a smile on her face and was lovely to me and my partner he did not deserve that even if she did make a mistake we all do ! I hope the chef realises treating staff like that is not ok

Well....where do I start? It's all gone wrong at the three tunns. Such a beautiful pub in its day now looking very unloved inside and out. Now owned by a big faceless brewery (years n Holland) the pub is limited to what Three tunns beer that can be put on. ( Just one)xxx The staff are kids with no idea about customer service, the food is poor, the manager is a right grumpy man. I was in there Friday lunchtime for a drink 9-2-24 and the swearing and bad behavior from a group of lads was uncomfortable.we went to the castle hotel instead. I fear for the place I really do. Just needs to be back in the three tunns brewery hands. It will close I'm sure if it....and maybe it needs to ......to start again. Shame. 😪

We thought it was great, and we eat out a lot. Went for Sunday lunch. Goats cheese and white bait to start followed by two roast beef dinners. Meat was good and veg done well with just the right crunch. Big plates too so plenty of it. 3 big roast potatoes each, yum, no skimping, so go with an appetite. Good pub food. Service was prompt and the staff were very nice. Took our dog. Would certainly go again.

Called in after a long winters walk for a warm lunch, started by ordering 2 soft drinks, both were very flat and we're served in water stained glasses. We then sat hoping to eat and wasn't asked if we wanted to eat so we asked for menus. After looking at menus we were told that there were several things missing off the menu, which was fine but our final decision not to eat in the pub was how cold it was there. Neither of us were able to take our coats off we were that cold so decided not to eat in this environment. Which is such a shame to lose customers due to this especially as they have 3 beautiful log burners that could be used. It's a shame they aren't using the times we are in with several places to eat closed due to the time of year to encourage customers.

What a shame. Once a great pub with good food and beer now a shadow of itself. Only one Tuns beer on, apparently they are in dispute with the brewery. Food was poor, the chips seemed like oven cooked chips. The Fish was average. The staff were poorly dressed and one looked unclean and they were more interested in the day's gossip then serving people. Had to chase to order and again to pay. It was very dirty - cobwebs, dust and behind the bar was scruffy, full litter and disgusting. What a real shame. I don't like putting negative reviews up but this was my favourite pub, and management need to get a grip.

Beer was good but staff hygiene needs reviewing.. The bar man happened to use the toilets at the same time as my husband and he did NOT wash his hands before going back behind the bar, which is pretty disgusting. Also I went to the ladies later on and the toilets were an absolute disgrace. The floor of all the cubicles was wet through, covered in soiled toilet paper and there was a distinct smell of vomit in my cubicle. They were terrible. Clearly no staff member was checking the cleanliness on a regular basis. It's things like this that stop people returning.....

Nice place for a dog friendly bite to eat. Food was good it was more the service which let it down. A young girl seemed to be running around doing a fabulous job of taking orders, delivering food and generally making sure people were ok, while also helping a chap out with how to use the ordering system. The issue was with only her doing this, and there were a lot of people in, it was slow. I think it took about 15 minutes for someone to ask what drinks we want 30-40 for someone to take the order. The food was nice however when it came. The table, round one in a corner, was too big for the space and so you ended up whacking your knees if you went in and out. We'd go back though if we were in the area.

Holidaying in the area and visited Bishops Castle on no less than 5 times in a week (as it was always on our return trip to the self-catering place). Unlike some it seems, we had the most pleasant experience at the Three Tuns Inn having opted to have our last night out there before going home. We were greeted with very friendly staff and a pint of the great local ale XXX. My wife and I arrived for an early evening meal of mushrooms in Shropshire cheese and garlic bread followed by a) roast belly pork and b) slow roasted beef with carrot puree, horseradish mash, stem broccoli and green beans in a gravy (perfect for any Northern lad!). The quality of the food was excellent and it was a fitting end to our trip to Shropshire. I should point out that the portions were generous and good value for money. We finished with lemon tart and a kit-kat sundae. My only gripe is that their wine was somewhat expensive. There's plenty of space to relax in, no unwanted noise and very dog and family friendly. It was pleasure to spend our time here in this traditional and unpretentious pub. Enjoy!!

We were only in the area 3 days and we went there on 2 occasions. That should tell you how good this pub is. On Saturday evening we had a meal there and was blown away by how tasty and generous the meal portions were. We ordered fish and chips and the rib eye steak. The batter on the fish was crispy and light. The steak was cooked to perfection and well seasoned. The serving staff were rushed off their feet but still nothing was too much trouble and they were friendly and efficient. Their own brewed ale was a perfect accompaniment to the food. Actually we choose this pub for food based on trip advisor reviews. Food very very average. One of our party explained they were gluten free however they still served her bread which was NOT gluten free. My biggest bug bearer however was the whole pub/restaurant absolutely stank of dirty used fat, you know the cooking fat type. Man it was so overpowering. Within minutes of our arrival I opened a few windows. Within minutes of me opening the windows the staff re-shut the windows. I mentioned to the staff about the smell and all they could say is ‘yeh my wife tells me I stink of cooking fat when I come home’! The pub may be worth a visit for the beer alone but avoid eating there. Not great! My advice would be to walk over the road to The Castle Hotel. A much better run pub.

Whilst camping at the beautiful Fox Holes campsite, we popped into the Three Tuns for two evenings this week. (Tuesday and Wednesday), a group of 7 thirsty motor cyclists. On Tuesday evening we arrived to the news that they were fully booked and we could not eat there. All other places in town were either closed or booked up!We decided to have a few beers (which were excellent) and within 2 hours the staff had moved things around and managed to feed us as well. An excellent night was had by all. Staff could not have been more helpful. On Wednesday we again had excellent beers and food and were having a great time, up until the end of the evening. Last orders were not called and when we tried to order a final round, at quarter to eleven, we were told by the staff that they had cashed up and we could have no more drinks. No amount of persuasion would change their minds. They then proceeded to hover over us, giving us 10 and 5 minute 'warnings', until we left.A real shame that the evening ended in this way and we just could not understand the difference in the attitude of the staff on Wednesday evening, compared to Tuesday?Great pub and beer, but on this occasion, let down by attitude of some staff.

We visited the Three Tuns twice during a recent walking holiday. The first time the meals (lamb steaks and baked salmon) were A* although the soup (leek and potato) only average quality. The second time we were met with blank looks - they had booked us in for the following day! But a very nice male waiter made us feel at ease and promptly offered a table. My dining partner chose the Moussaka... A dish not often found in English pubs. Although the custard crust was missing (pity but there you go) the lamb mixture (not beef) was very good and very well flavoured. I chose the Smoked Haddock, Leek and Pea Risotto which was a disaster - no fish in there at all! The kitchen justified this with it being the last portion and the flavour being very "subtle". Hmmmm... But they cooked me another meal (moussaka as well) and I ate it all, very hungry by then! The chips were just done but it was close to the end of food serving time so I understood the hurry. The soup that day (broccoli and blue cheese) was excellent btw! We accepted a free pudding as an apology and left, fed and watered and happy again. This detailed review just shows how very different experiences one can have in the pub! Would I recommend going there? On balance it would just be a "yes". The staff are very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is lively and friendly too.

Arrived and were ignored by the 3 staff members for a good few minutes- I appreciate that they might have been doing something, but a simple “hello” and “we’ll be with you in a mo” would have sufficed. No signs for the toilets either. We had Hummus, olives & pitta x2, with a side of new potatoes and a side salad. The hummus was fabulous and seemed to be homemade, pitta was pitta and the olives (from a cheap jar I’d guess) could try harder! Instead of trying their best to make up for their mistake, they stuck us in the bar, next to a wide open door which was really drafty. We asked three times if it could be closed, before they grudgingly did it. They then proceeded to totally ignore us for 15 minutes, before they came to take our drinks order, then got the order wrong. We then had to wait another 10 minutes for the replacement drink. I had to go and find someone to ask if they could take our food order! When it came the food was delicious and beautifully presented. We came here for the first time, arrived in a storm and the big open fire in the lounge was a welcome sight. The lounge is attractive. We ate fish and chips, which were very good, large portions, fresh fish with real chips, salad and peas. A lovely polite, friendly young lady served us. There were faimilies and a very well behaved dog in there. We can't wait to go back.

Awful meal with rude staff. Nothing more to say, not a patch from when we have been before. Has it changed hands?

All enjoyed a good Sunday lunch, very generous portion of meat with good selection of vegetables. Lovely sitting next to the fire. Poor selection of desert which was very expensive for a mouthful of pud. Would return but take desert elsewhere.

Enjoyed a lovely evening here. The bar was cozy and welcoming. All the staff made us feel like locals. We could sit anywhere with the dogs too so chose a cosy corner near the fire. Food was excellent. Definitely recommend

Enjoyed a meal with a group of friends in this pub. Service and food both very good. We were on the Christmas menu but plenty of non-Christmas alternatives for those who don't want turkey and pud. Would recommend the salmon, the cheese board, and the posset. Great evening.

Dropped in after a long day for some dinner and was very pleased with my evening meal of Hummus Olives and Pitta bread to start with a very nice glass of Shiraz followed by Smoked Haddock Pea and Leek Risotto topped with a poached egg. Food was well cooked especially my poached egg as I can't stand runny uncooked egg white but this was perfect. I was given a warm welcome by all the staff and having now read some of the other reviews I can only speak as I found and I definitely would return based on my experience and couldn't find any fault at all. Didn't have pudding as too full up but Cappuccino was lovely. Will definitely visit again.

* DONT GO TO THE TUNNS * Served us a raw chicken burger, sent it back they recooked the raw burger and put it on the same bun We then asked to speak to the manager as we thought this was disgusting.Even the waitress’ said they wouldn’t eat it. She said if we paid for it we could have a free pudding, we refused to pay for a raw burger. She then tried to tell me the burger was not raw, even though she hadn’t even seen it. Was really rude, no apologies, took the food away, didn’t offer to compensate or apologise and said if I wanted another meal i would have to pay. And then continued to talk about us to the kitchen staff in earshot. Disgusting customer service from the MANAGER and even worse food. Avoid!!

We have visited many times when in the area and have always enjoyed our lunches here. Until today. Reading other reviews it would appear to be a bit of a lottery as to how good, bad or indifferent the food is. Based on my meal today I'd say chef was having an off day. My pork was in my opinion slightly undercooked as were the vegetables. My meal was underwhelming and lacked flavour. Could I recommend this pub based on today's offerings? No I definitely could not. Will I return? Probably not. What a shame.

Three of us visited at the weekend. We were surprised that it was so quiet as usually it is buzzing. One of us had a chick pea dish which was very poor especially considering the price. The profit must have been huge. The other 2 meat-based dishes were fine. On the desserts - the sticky toffee pudding was also very dry. As usual the waitresses were great. A final comment about the recent introduction of boards and slates instead of plates and dishes - not appreciated especially when eating the ice cream. It is a shame the veggie dish was so bad as it is/was our favourite local dining place. Perhaps the chef should stick to more simple veggie dishes?

Great pub with their own beer brewed nearby. Lovely food. Proper traditional pub with plenty of space but still cosy, proper old scrubbed pine tables, no distracting musak and a great atmosphere. If only it was our local!

We took family out for lunch. Endless problems with the order, 6 issues with our desserts alone such as didn’t have what we ordered so changed some items then those weren’t available either, then no cutlery etc. Waitressing staff seemed uninformed.

We stpped off in Bishops Castle and decided to try this Pub for lunch. This is a lovely Olde Worlde Pub with beams and tremendous character. Dog friendly as well. I tried the local Sausage and mash and my husband had a chicken dish, followed by Hot mulled wine poached pear and Pecan Pie. Lovely tasty meal. Staff were very friendly and I could not fault the place.

Was told about this pub by friends as new chef there now! and thought we'd go for a meal, not booked but we was greated with a smile and a table was given to us! Great atmosphere! Food was served hot and looked great! Looking forward to seeing what's next to come! Our friends agreed... we will be back! Things are looking up!

Really under staffed, felt sorry for the few waitresses running around trying to serve all of the tables food & drinks. Took ages to order at the bar. They took our food order quickly, however took absolutely ages for the food to come and all the meals came at different times, by the time the last steak arrived the first persons food was cold to eat!! They brought the wrong cutlery to the table for each meal, which took the waitresses absolutely ages to get right! I had the pork for main which was so very tough to eat. Defiantly won’t be coming back again to eat or drink.

We managed to book a table at the last minute as very busy(worth booking). We were able to take the dog in which was great. The choice was good and the food was both tasty and plentiful. The staff were very helpful and sorted out an issue with the bill with no issue. Would thoroughly recommend

The Inn is attached to the Three Tuns Brewery so we felt we had to pop in and try the locally brewed ale! Once in we saw some of the food coming from the kitchen and decided to eat. Such a treat - BE WARNED! The portions are VERY generous. We had whitebait to start - tasty and well cooked, I then had lamb steaks with braised red cabbage, and my wife had the fish and chips. The lamb was tender and full of flavour, and the fish and chips were HUGE! the batter was crisp and light and the fish tender and cooked beautifully.

We went to the 3 Tuns, as it had been recommended. We booked at short notice when finding that it got very busy on weekends. The menu was quite short, which together with an updated blackboard gave a good range of choice. For starters we chose a shared plate of cold meats, with bread, olives, tomatoes, hummus and an oil dip. We also chose a bottle of Crianza, which unfortunately was no longer available, often the problem with wine lists. We chose the tempranillo, which was fine. The pint of stout was very good.

We can highly recommend this venue (they have an upstairs room with bar for private parties) for a drink, a meal, or a family event. We held the wedding reception for our daughter's wedding and everyone had a brilliant time. We cannot thank Gemma and her staff enough for their help and support in making it a day to remember.

Defensive manager does not value feedback! This place will therefore not improve. We visited the restaurant as believed it to be part of a good quality complex. Our arrival was greeted cheerfully and we were shown to a 2 seater table. That’s where any notion of customer service ended. My partner went up to the counter to order a starter and 2 meals…. Our drinks arrive promptly. …tick tick… 20 minutes go by. People who arrived after us start getting their meals… …tick tick… I go over and ask what’s happening. I’m told “It’s busy“ …tick tick… I ask again. “It’s busy.” More people who have subsequently come in are served. Eventually the manager (who I saw looking at tickets behind the kitchen) came over with our mains. No starter of soup. What followed was incredible! She insisted that the cock up was our fault! Apparently, the lack of soup was because she could not possibly know what was ordered, what should be a starter and how many people were at each table. That excuse would work in a service station, but we are talking about a place that charges handsome price’s commensurate with table service - but with no table service. We will never go back.

We were recommended this cafe and we weren’t disappointed. My husband and I had the ‘Chocks Away’ full English and as the delivery guy hadn’t been yet we had home made hash browns which were fabulous, and the eggs were double yolkers. Our friends had scrambled eggs on toast and had mounds! Highly recommend this place and the view was great.
