Good service, variety of coffee and a very interesting ancient ( probably 400 years old ) building. Special interest for tourists.

When I read some reviews on trip advisor, I just wonder how some people can be so critical and question their motives. My wife and I went to Poppies today for lunch, after visiting several times before. The restaurant was full (which says something in itself) and we were quickly shown to a table. My wife went for a vegetarian option of a baked potato with a chilli filling and an extra topping of melted cheese. It came with a side salad and dish containing mayonnaise and guacomole. I went for one of the daily specials, Steak and Kidney Suet putting with new potatoes (you could have whichever potatoes you liked) and a selection of well presented assorted vegetables. For dessert, my wife had a strawberry cheesecake with cream. It was very decoratively presented with a drizzle and it was delicious, I had to quality control it :) I had a slice of bakewell tart with a cherry preserve which also was delicious. We observed many other customers making very favourable comments to the staff. The food was promptly served and was hot. All the staff were keen to serve, were all very smartly dressed and very polite and courteous. A special mention for Matty who served us who looked after us and paid much attention to detail during our meal. We have been previously for breakfast which, if you like your traditional English, represents good value for money. They do a very yummy American pancakes with the maple syrup which are well worth giving up the diet for a day!! My wife being vegetarian had the veggie alternative English which again was well presented with fresh ingredients. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaraunt which is housed in a very old building which has so much charm. Lets get more visitors and have it rated as it should be.

Revisited for breakfast with friends & is obviously under new management! Ordered a vegetarian breakfast which contained an over cooked veggie sausage & a revolting veggie burger (suspiciously like something from a frozen food store)....& £6.95! When we refused the dessert menu, the waitress proceeded to read every dessert in detail to my 10 year old...resulting in him having to say "no thank you" six times! Very pushy..will not be returning until it is sold again!

We really thought this worth a try, something different perhaps? the young waiters were eager and very pleasant - but we were sorely disappointed. Our safari bounty was a rancid pear and blue cheese [limp] salad, topped with very greasy croutons - and a garlic mushroom starter that resembled that popped from a tin! We will not be returning.

This restaurant has only been open a few months but the quality of food is exceptional and reasonably prices. Also we were given a free bottle of wine for early booking. The staff and owner were extremely helpful and eager to please. Well worth a visit for quality and ambience.

Defensive manager does not value feedback! This place will therefore not improve. We visited the restaurant as believed it to be part of a good quality complex. Our arrival was greeted cheerfully and we were shown to a 2 seater table. That’s where any notion of customer service ended. My partner went up to the counter to order a starter and 2 meals…. Our drinks arrive promptly. …tick tick… 20 minutes go by. People who arrived after us start getting their meals… …tick tick… I go over and ask what’s happening. I’m told “It’s busy“ …tick tick… I ask again. “It’s busy.” More people who have subsequently come in are served. Eventually the manager (who I saw looking at tickets behind the kitchen) came over with our mains. No starter of soup. What followed was incredible! She insisted that the cock up was our fault! Apparently, the lack of soup was because she could not possibly know what was ordered, what should be a starter and how many people were at each table. That excuse would work in a service station, but we are talking about a place that charges handsome price’s commensurate with table service - but with no table service. We will never go back.

Our first visit to Oxon Priory. We had a warm welcome from Dawn & Holly. Food was piping hot and very tasty. We will definitely be coming back and recommending to family & friends.

We were recommended this cafe and we weren’t disappointed. My husband and I had the ‘Chocks Away’ full English and as the delivery guy hadn’t been yet we had home made hash browns which were fabulous, and the eggs were double yolkers. Our friends had scrambled eggs on toast and had mounds! Highly recommend this place and the view was great.
