Quick service and large portions with helpful staff

Went twice today, in the morning breakfast took ages, went for lunch, wait 30mins, as I was leaving the food showed up, I asked for a takeaway box from 2 people and never got one, never received my drink either Also CCTV inside the bathrom????

Cheap and carefully drink and food. Great atmosphere and staff very friendly

I ordered my food and a drink at the bar , the lady who served me was lovely , I explained where I was sitting as the table number was missing, she said that's ok. Breakfast came ,but the waitress took it to the wrong table , I said that must be mine. She replied sternly .wrong table should of been 77 ( or similar ) plonked it down and went no enjoy or anything. The three star I gave is five for the bar staff and one for the waitress. The sausage and hash browns were lovely, the egg like rubber and the beans Luke warm I have given a five star for everything in the past .. but not today I'm afraid

Better than average ‘Spoons (branded as LLoyd’s No 1). Fewer idiots than often to be found when you can buy a pint for £2.19, and nice staff. Update February 2025 Still a decent pub with a good selection of ales. Most staff members are happy to interact with customers although a couple can be downright offhand. And of course still no admission for dogs

Absolutely love this Spoons great selection Good Prices and lovely Outdoor beer garden would highly recommend a visit just to add this location is a Lloyds No.1 But is still a weatherspoons but may not suit everyone but just around the Corner Is Shrewsbury Hotel Which is a normal weatherspoons which gives that spoons vibe but Montgomery's Tower Is still one of my favourites to visit sometimes less busy to the Other Location

Always a good way to fill up with a cheap plate of food. Never disappoints on that front.

Lovely place and staff couldn't do enough to help.

Popped in on a Thursday night for food and drink with friends. That was a curry night so had curry and a pint for about a about a tenner.

Absolutely a brilliant pub, very good customer service.

Overall a typical 'Spoons, (usually) good beer at very good prices, friendly staff and reasonable, well priced food. However, I have written to the company twice now about the lack of attention to table cleaning. They passed it to the manager who did reply promising better standards. Nothing had changed the next time I went in, still sticky and glass base circles on the tables. I'll still go there for the overall value but not expect too much in other aspects.

Always a pleasure to go here, cheap beer and food all for dam sight less than others. Thank you Mr Spoon🤪 Monty's staff are always on the ball, super service and friendly staff. My wife and I love our weekend visits...well done to all.👍

the bar staff most of them do not know how to pull a pint or bitter some are rude and just plonk it on the bar and very cold in place

Ordered breakfast Luke warm ,skin on the baked beans, fried eggs were rubbery, no mushrooms ete spoke to staff as the pale ale was cloudy, weren't bothered, so nor am I, will not be eating here ever again.

All I wanted to do was take advantage of the £6.09 offer for a classic meal. Hamilton and none of the bars were staffed and a very unenthusiastic man was lurking around some beer glasses and said I will only be a minute. The place smelled unclean. I checked with the young lad before my order that the deal was on between 2:00 and 5:00 on a Friday. He confirmed this, I even showed him the menu to make sure. I queried him when he wanted to charge me over £7. Two other staff members were summoned. I joined them to try and explain what my query was and then I was told that I was standing too close to the corner of the bar. I told them in plain English without insulting them personally what I thought of the service. Clearly some training is needed for young staff. They couldn't deal with me in a polite or competent way so I was impolite in a reciprocating way without resorting to anything personal. Then I walked out. I was so utterly disappointed and let down by this encounter so I must write to someone in head office. I will be taking my money elsewhere. Don F

Absolutely the worst place in Shewsbury, uncaring staff, bland food and aggressive rude security staff ..first and last visit !!

My wife and I were told to leave the premises because my wife was helping me in the Disability toilet 🚻 the security person opened the door while we were still using the toilet and totally embarrassed us. I have a serious lung condition and I am registered disabled,the security person would not believe us and was aggressive and rude. It goes without saying we will never go there again . I expect a full apology for this disgraceful behaviour.

I go to get a drink and someone had a drink and one of them people came to us and said last drink and u lot can leave so I went to go get one and they said yes but don’t order loads bc they getting kicked out and had a issue with serving me apparently shocking would never to hear again

Christmas Party Nov 2024. Ten of us attended Monty's, which was great fun. Value for money, disco music, atmosphere and even though we had eaten else where on this ocassion, their food is great value for money. Had lots of fun here.

Sadly we went for breakfast, which have done so many times, service was bad, we all ordered at same time, two had already eaten before others arrived, beans and eggs were cold. Disappointed

Cheap food, fast service and plenty of choice.

We called here for drinks after having lunch in the Shrewsbury hotel wetherspoons. Nice place but the service at the bar was slow,and the place wasn't busy. We will call back for a meal one time so we hope it improves.

Not sure if we just had a bad experience but the one lady that was serving us was extremely rude. Started off by giving me my food before my childs food which I had ordered my 2 year olds way before. She then gave me mine and failed to tell me they had no salad so I had to ask someone else as half my order was missing on my plate. She also didnt give us by boys drink with his meal which we told another member of staff about and he seemed to find it really hard to get us the drink and told us to sort it at the bar ourselves...she then got other peoples food orders wrong and started to bad mouth back and walk off in a strop like a child. The food took forever to come out and wasnt right when it did and the customer service was the worst ive seen. Such a shame for a beautiful place.

The security staff is racist... Like any whetherspoon the service is cheap and the food is ermmm... alright... but if you enjoy yourself in solitude,.they remove you from the premises for trivial reasons... In my opinion, the security staff , especially one particular short guy with big belly is racist and when asked for a policy on papers they just give neither a name a nor ID. So perhaps,.they are above the law in the UK.

I had a all day brunch and it was horrible the beans was stone cold three fork fulls, bacon was under cooked i was kids portion 12 chips.

We went for breakfast on Sunday morning. Managed to get tables together (a party of 9) & the ambience was better than in the other Wetherspoons. However, there were items missing from 7 of the 9 breakfasts, hash browns, egg, toast & marmalade. The staff seemed annoyed when we asked for them. 3 of us had ordered an extra slice of toast & we were informed that they had run out of bread. We were asked if we wanted something else but had almost eaten our breakfast at this point. The drinks machine didn't have lattes. The food was luke warm. It might have been just a one-off bad day but we won't return to this particular Wetherspoons.

For some reason I tend not to like the Lloyds class of Wetherspoons and this Spoons has not changed my mind. A bland building. Has lots of real ale and a good pint of Greene King Abbot. Service a bit chaotic. Since Covid some people try to queue but us long term boozers don't. Oops.

WORST WEATHERSPOONS IN THE WORLD. Please did NOT come here, go anywhere else. The customer service and food here is probably the worst you will ever experience.

Staff are rude and had to wait over 30min to get served seemed they wanted to sort there own friends out first. If you want to get served go to main bar and not the club side as staff really appalling.

Appallingly bad staff who will actively ignore you when you attempt to order, awful microwaved greasy food you wouldn’t feed to a dog, vomit covered toilets and crawling with alcoholics and addicts who huddle together and drink themselves to death pretty much all day. I appreciate this sounds like most Wetherspoons across the country but this place is a special type of bad, steer clear of management in particular as well as the bouncers who are always looking for any opportunity to pile in and cause a scene. There’s names of staff members who were particularly bad when I last visited that I won’t mention as this a public forum. In order to improve, may I recommend Wetherspoons promptly close this place and subsequently raise it/burn it to the ground as places like these give Shrewsbury a bad name!

I normally goto the other spoons in Shrewsbury, first time at this one. Its quite a big pub. they had two flat (box) ciders on, food was good. would come again

Ordered steak - it was better than the last one I had at a steakhouse!!

Took ages for any member of staff to come to the counter to take our orders and by that point the queue was 5 people deep. Drinks had multiple black specs in them due to a cleaning issue which held things up a great deal. Food served was extremely poor with small servings, a single tiny mushroom and a single tablespoon of peas, undercooked chips, etc. it then took ages for anyone to open the disabled toilets after we requested three times.

The food was OK, not brilliant but very good value for money. I use the app to order the food which came very quickly but it took ages to sort out downloading the app and getting connected. The pub was lively with lots of people in my main reason for dropping a star was the air conditioning was blasting cold air which made it a little uncomfortable. On the hole not a bad location to have a simple meal, but I can't say it was outstanding.

Great Spoons by the river and town

Can't rate food as didn't have any. Couple of tables out front is possibly their beer garden. Good amount and selection of table and chairs inside. Friendly helpful staff. Love a spoons! 🍻

Food was freezing cold had to send two meals back. Chips missing off the mixed grill as well. Servers were good but the kitchen staff need to be ashamed of themselves they are not checking the food before it leaves the kitchen. Gordon Ramsey would shut it down. Absolutely awful

It's a Weatherspoons! Just didn't fancy the menu, so went somewhere else 😕 plenty of choice in Shrewsbury.

Ordered two children’s sausage and chips and two lasagna and salads , had to send both lasagna’s back as they were stone cold !! What’s happened to a temperature probe in this establishment? The waitress said she would get them heated up , when she returned them the plates were very hot from the microwave but the lasagna was still only warm in the middle!! This experience has definitely put us off returning here for food.

After cancellation of our dinner table, we popped in to Montgomery Tower because we know that we can rely on wetherspoons. This is a bright and breezy wetherspoon eatery not usual one like other spoons. Very clean and tidy, music is on which I didn't experience in any other Spoon. Quite impressive building and atmosphere inside and having big seating area. We been at bar counter but there's no one to get our order. Haven't seen any staff even you can see in my photos. They're working like Casper ghost😜. Usual food menu and quality but cheap and cheerful grub. Prices are pocket friendly. Our meals were good and the staff who served us, she was friendly. Enjoyed our dinner and drinks.

Quite a pleasant surprise to find this hidden gem just off the beaten track, it's clean, comfortable and the staff are friendly and efficient.

I met with work colleagues here on a Saturday afternoon for drinks. The range and cost of drinks here are surprisingly vast and low priced. The decor inside needs a refurb, as it's very dark and just dated. We did have a meal which came with a drink, but understandably it wasn't the best as the price is too low. However it's a great spot to meet for drinks.

Really nice and relaxed. Food was awesome and the drinks were spot on.

We visited Wetherspoons at about 6.30 on a Wednesday the pub was pretty busy we soon ordered drinks and then food,I ordered the all day brunch with a pint of Stoward Cider all for £11.50 excellent value,the food arrived within 20 minutes and was ever so tasty.When we are next in the area I will try a bit of all day brunch again.

Very bad experience Saturday evening. Ordered burger with chips at £12.00 Burger was dried out and overcooked with no salad, and the quantity of chips was laughable. I asked a waitress to look at my plate and asked if it was a mistake, to which she replied, patronisingly, if you ask me properly, I will bring you more chips. I will never eat there again!

Bubbly atmosphere for a quick lunch. This pub is next to a college and gets lots of students. It can be pretty busy, but service is always prompt.

Visited about 3.30, one part of bar was shut and only one serving at the other.Normally beer is relatively good but the Abbot ale was nearly at the point of being sent back and definitely needed more staff.

Over from Spain for a few days. Thought the prices reasonable and the ordering method etc efficient. Food very nice. So why on earth does "Head Office" who obviously don't live in real world and are pure Rules and Regs people insist that the only thing the unavailable eggs can be swapped for is two more Hash Browns?! The breakfast already comes with 3 of the bloody things. Who on earth wants 5 hash browns? My common sense suggestion of swapping in a couple of mushrooms was met with "Sorry its policy". So we cancelled the entire order and went to Ploughboy. This sort of mindless policy is destroying businesses.

At night, Montys has a younger demographic. Thats not a bad thing, it just means that at 10pm on a Saturday, anyone over 35 might feel a bit like a nonce hanging out there. But that insecurity is all in your head, and you're only as young as you feel, so get out there and show them how they partied in the 1860s, Grandad.

Ordered fish and chips 2 portions fish absolutely terrible over cooked and full of grease tasted like old oil put it in container to take home for animals did tell one of staff he said he tell manager ,never seen manager,he never even asked what problem was,think he needs retraining very disappointing compared to other wetherspoon pubs I have been to

Went here on Sunday before bank holiday, the bar staff very rude, the food was under cooked, The burger I thought was for a child and not for an adult, won't be going their again,

It's a "Spoon's" so hard to beat on value. The only downside was they had run out of fish and chips which is a cardinal sin. Decent enough place though

Cheap and cheerful as are all Wethers. Sometimes it's a crèche during the daytime.

After travelling and walking around all morning, my partner and I, along with our 2 year old, our friends and their dog. Had decided to sit outside this pub, order drinks and food and then was told to leave as dogs were not allowed OUTSIDE the pub. We were all tired and hungry and fed up. I have never heard of anything more ridiculous than saying dogs are not allowed outside of a pub?!

Great food and great prices on everything and really nice staff even though it’s really busy’ Perfect for families as very kiddy friendly and no long waiting for food 👌

Up there amongst the better Wetherspoons establishments I've been in so, yeah, a positive review from me. Only slight negatives were pretty insignificant - (i) ordering via the app, my table number wasn't listed (so I went for the next nearest table number, and kept an eye out for my food/drink heading my way); and (ii) service seemed a little bit slow (but I did have a train to catch which may have made me feel as if it were slow. Ordinarily, I wouldn't have minded). Either way, both pretty insignificant issues on my part, maybe borne out of my own internal anxieties!!

Food is amazing, the service is amazing, and overall, it's just a lovely place to eat or watch football! I definitely recommend it! 👌☺️

Montgomery's tower is a really good wetherspoons. There was a wide range of beers, lagers, and cider, including about six different hand pulled real ales. The staff were friendly and the service was very quick. The real ales we tried were in excellent condition. The food was good. The stake was cooked perfectly and very tender.

We had a wonderful waitress named Siobhan who made all the difference to our experience. When she wasn't serving, tidying, and being helpful she was outside, 5 degrees, sweeping and replacing smokers chairs, what a hard working woman. Well done Siobhen

We had a lovely time, one of the staff members (Joe, ginger with tatoos and piercings) was absolutely amazing. He was on the ball and very helpful

It’s your standard JDW venue, albeit a little bit party-timed up, big long bar (2 actually, 1 in each ‘room’), friendly staff and since it was Beer Festival time some ‘exotic’ ales to sample. I do like the option of thirds of a pint, but disappointed these have to be in multiples of 3 to equal a pint - 4 festival ales on so to sample them all you can’t do it in thirds. Hey ho, First World Problems and all that. They do what they do very well, it’s proper MOR hospitality and ticks plenty of boxes
