Stopped here whilst visiting Shrewsbury for the day. It was a good looking place, clean with shaded outside seating - vital as it was a scorcher. The food was incredibly good value for the delicious meal we had. High quality, large portion size and friendly, helpful staff. Recommended for visitors to the area.

After a late afternoon stroll around the town, we decided to call in this pub for a couple of pre dinner drinks. I don’t normally review drinking establishments but this one merited the exception. Walking in from the cold outside air, the warmth in the pub was lovely ranging from the temperature to the welcome from Sam. She was excellent. Two medium glasses of wine and change from a tenner was also welcome to Southerners used to paying around double that. Food only done at lunchtime but check out the pub and it’s atmosphere

Drank in this pub before, however always been summer time so always sat outside. With it being miserable weather outside the pub was friendly/ warm and very welcoming and the locals were friendly too which definitely helps. Great selection of real ales and lagers, throughly recommend 61 Deep great pint. Visited a couple of times over the weekend at different times and the place was busy, however staff were very much on the ball, clearly can handle the pressure. I was led to believe the pub done food however didn’t see anything advertised, either in the evening or during the day, so not sure if this is something they do anymore. Will definitely return in the future and would have no issues recommending either.

The Wheatsheaf has a wide pavement area so is able to accommodate around 30 or more people at tables outside. In the sunshine today it was splendid. The local architecture surrounding the ancient pub is beautiful and with the adjacent High Street closed to traffic it was peaceful, too, other than passers-by and shoppers. We were not particularly hungry so my daughter and I opted to share one meal, and the staff were perfectly happy with this, despite us taking a table which could potentially have been more lucrative. The food was good; not outstanding but more than adequate and good value. The best thing about quite a lot of good things about the Wheatsheaf was the very helpful, efficient and very attentive staff. It was clear that the serving staff were prepared to take a genuine interest in the service they provided, rather than just going through the motions. Very impressed.

Visited the pub early Saturday evening we got talking to another table and we were having a really great night, small barmaid came over and demanded we move away from this other table or leave as an old couple the other side of the pub we're offended by what we were talking about, brexit & immigration with the occasional swear word! I was absolutely gob smacked it's a Saturday night in the town centre with no children around! We were spoken too like dirt and felt like we had committed a full on crime! Lighten up for gods sake the world's miserable enough with covid! I really don't recomend this pub unless you like a place with no atmosphere, miserable customer and up them self staff bar staff, best thing about it were the door staff really good fun and felt safe.

Me and my wife have been visiting Shrewsbury for a couple of days and have visited the Wheatsheaf 3 times and each time was greeted by a lovely young lady who ensured our visit was enjoyable every time. The poor girl I think she said her name was Ash did not stop the whole time we were there and was running the place as smoothly as possible with how busy she was and the fact she was on her own. But she always had a smile on her face and made every customers feel welcome. Sadly When we were sat outside a man brought her outside and embarrassed her in front of customers as she hadn’t cleared glasses off the tables. The poor girl couldn’t keep up and everyone had left at once. I don’t know who the man was I can only assume the landlord. But I am absolutely disgusted with how he treated her and if he is the landlord I will not be returning to put another penny in that mans pocket. The lady tried her best to clear the tables quickly and professionally but it broke our hearts seeing her cry. I hope he apologise to her as no person should have to put up with that disgusting behaviour in the work place.

We usually pop in for a swift one while we are in town shopping. The pub no longer serves food, although occasionally there is a choice of prepacked sandwiches (or pork pies, I saw once) in a cabinet on the bar. [The owner also runs 'The Post Office' across the street (through the archway and across the courtyard) which does the full range of pub food ( to a good standard too).]There is usually live music on at some point in the week (see the posters) and on Wednesday evenings, record enthusiasts meet up and can take over the turntables playing records from their personal collections for 30min slot or so.

This is one of three pubs that I know that is owned by the Holdens Brewery and is local to the black country. This place has been modernized to accommodate more visitors but the newly renovated leaded light Windows still fit the character of the old style pub. Holdens Brewery ales are well worth a try for real ale enthusiasts. Update I recently visited the pub and all the old style pub is gone inside and now is a one room bar come entertainment area and two large screen tv's and a platform for live music.

I utilised this one on a couple of occasions whilst staying in Shrewsbury, initially on a Thursday evening, as local musicians bring along their guitars and set up in the seating section by the left hand entrance, and as a consequence the pub was busy and had a decent vibe, and then again the lunchtime of the day after for the official Pubs Galore crawl of Shrewsbury when we found the pub inexplicably completely empty (and the barmaid only too happy to see us) and the whole thing a bit flat. The interior is small but light and airy although a bit corporate. It is a Marstons pub and the ale range was a bit pedestrian. For my visits the 6 handpumps only offered Brakspear Gravity, Marston's EPA, Banks Amber and Lancaster Bomber. I had gone for the Lancaster Bomber the night before which I found dull and went for the Banks Amber on the subsequent visit which was OK but not a patch on the same beer in the Loggerheads.I would recommend a visit here of an evening when the local musicians are performing on their guitars, otherwise probably not.

Ever since the refurb the beer (mild & bitter ) goes flat within 10 minutes, tastes good but no life in it , a mate posted a "memories photo" on Facebook the other day from two years ago (before refurb ) the glasses some near empty had beer froth all the way down them, in those days hand pull beers were served in over size glasses as opposed to the measured glasses they use now so if you want a good head of beer you get less than a full pint, on a plus side they have finally started having some rock bands back in there on Saturdays which is what the locals have been used to, for the pubs sake I hope the old regulars start coming back because there used to be a good atmosphere on a Saturday .

This pub has always been a favourite over the years but the recent refurbishment seems to have meant a lot less space in the pub. We struggled to squeeze in as the previous lay out has been replaced for tables aimed at making money from food. I do understand the need for this in today’s industry but I feel at it has come at a cost to the old atmosphere this pub used to have. Overall very good though and a high quality refurbishment. Good selection of ale and reasonable price. Hopefully it’ll find its new place as a new classic on Salops high street.
