Visited with friends for Sunday lunch. They'd been before for lunch (although not on a Sunday)and had enjoyed it so we took a chance. Nicely busy but no issues getting a table, although I wouldn't go much after 1-1.30pm for Sunday lunch as you may miss out. Great tasting coffee and the blackberry stout was amazing. Sunday lunch is superb - 2 of us had turkey and 2 had gammon. Everything was cooked just right - the roast potatoes were great and good selection of veggies. 3 of us ordered extra cauliflower cheese but we would have been fine with just 2 for the table - I'd definitely recommend it, made exactly how it should be and really tasty. All the food was piping hot, great portions and excellent value for money. The pub is dog friendly too.

My god. Why do bar staff these days never know who’s next ? Patiently waited for a very very slow bar maid to serve the people in front of me and lo and behold …. Served a lady next who just arrived at the bar. I let it go until the very very slow barmaid then decided to serve someone else who again had just arrived at the bar. Just full on poor service.

Stopped serving food before 2pm on a Sunday ( Website states food until 2.30) . Visited after reading The Telegraph suggesting this is the best pub in Shropshire, not so ! Got the impression that they could not care less. The Telegraph reviewer should have visited The Wheatsheaf down the hill where we were looked after properly the day before.

The oldest pub in Ludlow. We visited twice during our stay for lunch and Sunday lunch. We had sandwiches for lunch and the amount of beef was superb. Sunday lunch was lovely and if you go you must have to cauliflower cheese!! Had a paddle of three Joules beers as well a great way to sample them. Atmosphere was great too.

Ludlow has a plethora of eating places for all tastes and all budgets but the Rose and Crown has hit the sweet spot. Owned by the Joules Brewery, there is a great selection of real ales as well as lagers and soft drinks. The food menu again caters for all tastes and the meal we both had was fresh and tasty whilst also being a perfect portion size. Hospitality was first class with a special mention for Morgan who greeted everyone with a welcoming smile showing immediate attentiveness to all. She was able to talk about all of the drinks available and was extremely efficient I her role. There is no doubt that Morgan is a real asset to the Rose and Crown, so thank you for a fantastic visit. We will definitely be back!

This is the oldest pub in Ludlow. We had visited the museum close by which was very small, so fortunately we had time to visit this pub before lunch. It has an attractive and historic interior, and there is also a small courtyard. There appeared to be some very good local ales. But we decided to enjoy two glasses of prosecco sat round a barrel.

Found this traditional pub whilst in Ludlow. We went in and asked if they had a table for 2,the staff said we could eat in the restaurant (staff served) or we could go in the main bar or the outdoor terrace/garden, so the outdoor it was. We ordered drinks from the bar and perused the menu. My wife opted for a salad with a salmon fillet, myself the vegetarian lasagna with garlic bread and side salad. The food was brought to the table and looked fresh and appetizing, both were polished off. With a bottle of 0% beer and a gin and lemonade the total bill was approx. £33. Excellent establishment to while away an hour or 2.

An obvious and popular watering hole for day-trippers, the Rose and Crown is not to be underestimated. The "Joules" ales on offer are very good and a pleasant change from the bigger brewery staples. Catch a sunny day and the courtyard beer garden is a great place to while away a couple of hours chatting to the friendly locals.

Steeped in history and oozing with character this pub isn't just a drinking hole. The menu is varied and after sharing a plate of beautiful whitebait we both chose the vegetable lasagne with garlic bread and salad. What a treat. A proper layered lasagne with freshly baked bread oozing with garlic. Well cooked and what a flavour! Possibly the finest veggie lasagne we have ever had. Compliments to the chef. Last but certainly not least was the excellent all round service. Thank you for a really good dining experience.

Me and my husband came to ludlow on saturday. We heard the rose and crown had reopened after a refurbishment. And under new management. Our last visit in early September wasn't very enjoyable the staff were miserable, and the food looked awful. So we did not eat. But the joules beer was lovely. So we thought we would give the new people a chance. And glad we did. They were fully staffed this time, happy and welcoming. The food looked amazing on the other tables. Proper pub grub. So we gave it a go. Had the best brie wedges and lasagne we have ever had before. Great music and so busy, struggled to get a table. Open fire and dog friendly with treats on the bar. Win win for us having 2 dogs. The new management has really got this!! I will recommend this pub to everybody.

This is a bit late, for the two people we want to thank - "drop-in" managers, Amy and Brandon - (Think his name is Brandon.) left the Rose and crown on Saturday, I believe, to return to Home base, Shrewsbury. We arrived, tired and hungry, at the pub Monday evening, a week yesterday. We had arrived in Ludlow later than planned owing to a terribly slow car journey, and just been told by two highly-rated Tripadvisor pubs that they could not do food for us, even though it was before the seeming 8.00pm kitchen closedown. We tried the Rose and Crown, fearing another turn away, only to be greeted by a cheery Brandon, who said he would oblige with food! We enjoyed our meal, and drinks, and could not have been made more welcome by our hosts. To make this review more "useful", I must say that the Rose and Crown is a wonderful old place - like visiting a National Trust property which just happens to be a pub. Good luck to the new manager(s), and to Amy and Brendan in their new post!

I visited ludlow on Monday because it's such a beautiful town. We were recommended by a local to have lunch in the rose and crown. Where I was informed they did great pub grub for decent prices, homemade lasagne, ham egg and chips etc. Unfortunately when we arrived the menu was not the same and got told by another customer they had changed chefs. Was very dissapointed with the options on the menu. So decided to just have a drink. The joules beer was lovely, but we were hungry so didn't stay long. We watched other meals go out, where they were small portions and overheard other customers constantly complaining. It was very busy and only 2 members of staff working. They were struggling but working hard. For a sunny day in summer holidays. The only thing I can see here is bad management. And bad decisions.

Dropped in for a drink as we wandered through the town and were attracted by the history which is impressive. Good service, variety of coffee and a very interesting ancient ( probably 400 years old ) building. Special interest for tourists.

We were highly recommended to try The Acton out. We left rather disappointed. The decor, which we assume a refurb was done recently, was befitting the offerings that the operators were trying to achieve through their kitchen. Tastefully done. The service was excellent and tentative. Regretfully the food was well overpriced for what was served especially the starters. The other issue was the sequence of the food coming out. Due to them have a separate pizza area off the main kitchen the mains came out at totally different time and my wife had finished her pizza before my daughters and mine came out. The chefs need to sort these comms out between tha main pass and the pizza section. I do believe however that it has potential as it is noticeable through the menu creation

We were recommended this cafe and we weren’t disappointed. My husband and I had the ‘Chocks Away’ full English and as the delivery guy hadn’t been yet we had home made hash browns which were fabulous, and the eggs were double yolkers. Our friends had scrambled eggs on toast and had mounds! Highly recommend this place and the view was great.
