Unicorn Inn in Shropshire

Had dinner with two friends on a Saturday night. It was quiet and we couldn’t understand why. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and cosy with a nice fire. The small team looked after us extremely well and we had a very enjoyable evening. My English friend was raving about the quality of the food, she said that it was exceptional for an English pub to serve such good food. We thought it was good value and a really nice experience. Thank you.

We stayed here for one night in the Griffin suite, which was like a little self contained cottage. It was clean and very comfortable. After exploring Ludlow town, we then had dinner at the venue. It was cooked to perfection and tasted lovely! The breakfast was included in the price and was equally as good as the dinner. Everything was very reasonably priced too! Lee and his staff couldn’t do enough for us. We will be back!

Stayed at the unicorn inn , griffin cottage great place above expectations short walk into town centre .The only drawback is the pub is not open due to covid .the landlord and staff could not do enough for us highly recommended.

We didn't eat there, only stayed there but the breakfast was excellent. It states it's a pub but isn't open for drinks. In the landlords words doesn't stay open in the hope people might pop in!! Such a shame as could be a really good place to stay and eat. When we looked in the restaurant only two people were eating at 7pm and they were going to close after they had eaten at about 8pm, no atmosphere as was empty. We couldn't come back for a drink after we had been out.

We stayed at the Unicorn overnight as was attending an event at Ludlow Brewery. Excellent location as literally 2 minute walk away. It's in a quiet residential street with parking a few minutes walk around the corner. Lee the hoast was so friendly and helpful, even offered to drop us in town which was just a 10 minute walk away ( up hill but not too bad!). The room was lovely and cosy with a big comfy bed. Heating certainly made it nice and snug as it is a very old building. Breakfast was delicious (recommend the eggs benedict!). Thanks Lee and team for a lovely stay!

Myself husband and our friends stayed last night. From the warm welcome from Lee to our goodbyes this morning we had an amazing time ! Rooms quirky spotless clean. Tea coffee milk provided. We were going to eat in town but decided the Unicorn was sooo nice we ate there. What a fabulous meal we had too ! Fresh and tasty. A perfect nights sleep followed. This morning breakfast was wonderful!! Again all fresh hot and tasty. Thank you Lee and all of your staff for a relaxing night away and your superb hospitality. We will be back !!

Booked Sunday lunch as a birthday treat while staying in Ludlow as fully booked Saturday and Sunday evening. Worst meal ever!! The place was empty, no atmosphere, no music, condiments were unclean and the serviettes looked like a piece of cheap loo roll. An ant on the starter should have rung warning bells of what was to come. Sea bass cooked beautifully but served with a shop bought Yorkshire pudding and roasted potato wedges. Carrots undercooked and looked as if they had just been picked and new potatoes were soggy as reheated! The waitress spoke to the chef who sent his apologies, no reduction in price, offer of a coffee etc. I never give poor reviews but this place deserves it to warn others. Such a shame as the Unicorn is recommended by the hosts of the cottage we stayed in.

I had booked a table for lunch with my cousin. On arrival the place was semi- deserted. I rang their number to be told they were booked up that afternoon. When I said we had booked the reply was 'Lucy should have cancelled that'

Booked over the phone last week, arrived at the pub to find it was closed on a Saturday night! The person I spoke to didn’t have a record of the booking. Utter shambles and we won’t be booking there again.

Not cheap but the quality of the cooking exceeded the prices. Lovely venison, steak, fish and puddings. Needs more support from local clientele or it won’t survive, and that would be a big loss

Everything was Brilliant - accommodation, food & the service from the staff and owners. Nothing is to much trouble for them, Breakfast and evening meals were perfect some of the best we have had, you would struggle to find better. Accommodation was to a high standard with large rooms and a lovely comfortable bed. Hosts were exceptional. A good selection of drinks stocked at the bar with beer available on the pump and in bottles also many type of wines etc by the glass or bottle.

We visited The Unicorn 3 times on. 4 night stay. The food is fantastic and the service fabulous. A special mention to Lee who cooked amazingly tasty food - and made us feel very welcome guests. And backed up by Lucy and Katelyn with amazing service. Go here you won’t regret it! 😊

The Unicorn is a little outside Ludlow Town Centre but an easy walk and we hoped we'd find a gem off the beaten track. At 19.30 on a super sunny Friday in this foodie mecca there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant. It was really quiet too, no music and little talking. We decided to stay although the atmosphere was a bit strange. As we ordered drinks, we experienced the same issue as in previous posts; no draft beer only bottles. The bottles were not from the local Ludlow brewery 0.5 miles away but were instead very standard supermarket beers (Doom Bar & Bombadier). Not what we expected in a Town where local produce is a big deal. The food however was good; we also had the Landlord shot venison (in July) and asparagus and ricotta tortellini. The two members of staff we met were friendly and professional. Would we go back - probably not

Great food, steak and venison were both excellent as was the local cheeseboard which was expertly explained to us by the very welcoming landlord. Disappointing that there were no draught beers on tap which we were looking forward to, but am sure that was a one off supply issue. Would definitely recommend and return when we come back for the food festival in September.

A beautiful beer garden to the rear of the pub, with the river directly behind.We had originally planned to have dinner elsewhere, but the menu at the Unicorn was to tempting. My fillet steak in a cream and peppercorn sauce, with dauphinoise potatoes/veg melted in your mouth, my partner had the duck in black cherry sauce which was equally delicious. Breakfast was also amazing and set us up for the day.If your looking for reasonable price accommodation with a great atmosphere, I can definitely recommend the Unicorn.

Just came back from an amazing trip to ludlow stayed in the unicorn. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed due to recent flooding however they knocked £40 off the price for us due to this inconvenience. We were shown around by Richard who was very welcoming and Helpful, to our delight no one else had booked so we had the whole place to ourselves which was lovely! Rooms were superb with amazing modern decor, the bed was the comfiest bed I had ever stayed in and a great little coffee machine in each room. Bathrooms were clean filled with toiletries and clean towels. A short walk to the town and free parking all weekend, Will definitely be booking to come here again and would highly recommend for couples or family’s!

Was staying overnight around the area for work, me and a Colleague went to visit, do you want to do meals and they came quite quickly the food was quite bland not much flavour the atmosphere to say it was around 8 o’clock was also very empty nonetheless the staff were quite pleasant did not realise they was on for in a bed as my friend colleague said they abandoned the shower after criticism we both laughed if you can’t handle criticism you’re in the wrong game!! I think the price for the food was not bad but like I say it was a bland food I’ve ever had out the staff were polite well and the place inside is lovely.

The smallest criticism caused the owner to have a meltdown and storm off the show. Pathetic. Why go on the show? Get help please

This is a 15th Century tavern that has been recently converted to provide comfortable and clean accommodation. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners, indeed Lee is a chef of some repute. Whatever you order from the menu will turn into a culinary masterpiece. Splendid open log fire in the Lounge.

Lovely old Inn with lots of character. Roaring fire and delicious food - especially the venison. Good service and nice touch serving warm rolls with 'tomato butter' on being seated.

Both myself and my girlfriend had the cod with a crab crust, dauphenois and lobster & prawn sauce....it was fantastic! The wine was could've been better but I would definitely recommend this place. Staff were very nice too!

Disappointing. Very chilly and although the fire was ready it wasn't lit, so no atmosphere. The owner seemed disinterested and quite arrogant. Food was mediocre. Will not be returning.

We had a family celebration here this weekend. staff went above and beyond, following the lead of the owner Lee. Food was AMAZING!!!! Couldn't have asked for more . We would encourage anyone to visit this pub. We can't wait to go back again ! Ps chocolate brownie is to die for !!

Upon entering from minus temperatures outside, I was hoping to be greeted with a warm welcoming atmosphere, but immediately noticed the fire was unlit!! The bar area was freezing cold! When we were seated, I immediately said “are you going to light the fire?” The young man behind the bar said “ no we only light it in the evenings “, so I realised we would have to eat with our coats on! Halfway through our meals, the fire was finally lit, but would’ve taken too long to warm everyone for comfort.The staff were very nice, however managed to get my order wrong. Food was very average, and only choice of coffee after was Americana. Come on landlord, if you want repeat custom, don’t expect your customers to sit and eat in their coats!!I won’t be returning.

After a 3 hour drive my wife and I arrived at the Unicorn on the recommendation of many reviewers. Last Friday was a pretty cold day so I was looking forward to the much advertised roaring fire. At about 1.00pm there was no fire, no heating, hardly any lighting and only 2 customers. This was not the welcoming ambience or comfort we were expecting. It's an old building so the effect was just cold and gloomy. The lunch menu was far too pricey and upmarket for what we wanted.

Lovely little pub. Food was excellent and great value for money. Service was really good too, friendly waiter who served us. Would recommend the chicken and Camembert wellington from the mains. Highly recommend who anyone in the area.

Well what can we say, apsolutly brilliant from start to finish. The menu was good the price was good the service from all was extremely good and the food was apsolutly delicious thankyou for making our family day so special my mum who's 87 said it was the best Christmas dinner she had ever had. Having read all the reviews, I looked forward to taking my friends to this 17th Century pub and witness the roaring fire that a number of people comment on. Unfortunately there was no fire....at Christmas.

We stayed here on the 22nd December 2019, the food is absolutely wonderful, all local produce. We had a Christmas lunch then evening dinner to share because we were peckish but still stuffed from lunch :), their toffee salted caramel cheesecake was to die for! Breakfast was gorgeous and set us up for the day in the beautiful market town of Ludlow. The rooms were well done out given the unicorn is a very old property and both new and old decor went well together, was a lovely change and great for us as a family and a romantic get away.

What a beautiful place! Extremely warm welcome, was shown to our room which we checked over and very happy to see it was spotless. Fantatsic meal in the evening, all cooked to perfection and plenty of it too. It was very busy with it being so close to Christmas, staff seemed rushed off of their feet but and a little stressed but they didn't put this on us at all. We had carol singing in the bar to finish off the evening ❤. Slept so well, beds were so comfortable and the bedding was good quality too. Breakfast was served and again, beautifully cooked. All in all, a superb place, great food, service and a good night's sleep! What more do you want?

The hospitality was great and every course delicious with more than ample vegetables to accompany, but the seating was extremely cramped for the amount of diners present.Such a shame.
