The Blue Boar in Shropshire

Visited today on my Birthday and we were warmly greeted by friendly staff. Cosy and olde worlde inside we could sit where we wanted. Good choice on menu - I opted for halloumi souvlaki which was delicious and my husband ordered the chicken and chorizo casserole served with rice which he thoroughly enjoyed. Would definitely recommend here and will return when next in Ludlow.

I really don't like writing bad reviews but food was horrible for their prices. Roast potatoes were tough to get through then somehow only half of it was potato inside, need to be crispy! Veg were "Al dente" crunchy hard, one twig parsnip was burnt at the end. Beef was average but couldnt taste much of it with whatever was in the gravy over powering it. The chips they gave instead were good...Customer service they're actually very friendly and they're also dog friendly. Maybe we just had a bad batch?

Sunday lunch here is phenomenal. We seek it out each time we visit the town. I had dessert to a banana split with a twist. Gorgeous.

The good bits first, good selection of real ales and the starters were good ( although overpriced even allowing for “the Ludlow factor). The roast mains were very mediocre, two slices of tasteless pork, a square inch of crackling and bland undercooked, not browned roast potatoes. The vegetables, however, were plentiful, not overcooked and good. The service was slow, we waited ages between starters and mains, although they did apologise for this. For some reason both toilet doors (M & F)were wedged open so we ate our dinners to the sound of the hand driers constantly being used and, worse, from my seat I had a clear view into the ladies toilet hand drying area through the open doors. A poor experience overall compounded by the top dollar prices (£8.25 prawn cocktail, £17.95 roast main). I shall not be returning in a hurry.

Got charged an extortionate almost £15 for a pint of ale and a single rum & coke. Visited a few other establishments in town and charged around the £10 mark.

Arrived promptly for 12, as was told this was the only time available on Easter Sunday. Then told our booking had been cancelled, but that they could accommodate us. The pub was empty at this point. Staff looked misery and hard done by, offish with both me and my partner, not very welcoming at all ( exception to one young lady who actually smiled and was baseline helpful. Loud 80’s music playing….. Food wax delivered promptly… decent sized portions and it was delicious. We ordered the beef roast and nut roast. Average selection of drinks. Approached bar to pay… told amount and I asked for an itemised bill… was not particularly well received by the staff although it was all correct. Paid and left. Probably wouldn’t return as the ambience and staff wasn’t great.

The Blue Boar is our local pub quite charming with characters, throughout the years we have visited and has an amazing foods and good service with a good attitude. Foods were on time and a big portion. the pudding was delicious. Can't fault.

Beautiful old Inn, historic building, slightly 'wonky' feel.to it! The female staff were really friendly and pleasant. We didn't eat there but had a few pleasant drinks. Would definitely revisit.

We came upon this thanks to Google as our original choice was too expensive. We arrived without a booking but were made welcome on a busy evening. The Slouvaki chicken was superb, other guest had scampi. Very good portion size and delicious food. Both dishes were around £16 (information I find missing on a lot of reviews). Lovely friendly atmosphere with knowledgable staff. Daughter is a coeliac and they catered very well for her. The Sunday lunch was delicious, plenty of beautifully cooked veg to go aside, 2 vegetarian / vegan options for the roast too. I would say they were large portions. Desserts were delicious too, lovely to have a Banana split as an option you don’t often see. Granddaughter aged 4 had a smaller size portion of the adult roast which she enjoyed. Good ale choice too. Will definitely be back.

Arrived at about 9pm, after dinner. Really vibrant, folk band playing. Staff were lovely - really friendly and jovial. Enjoyed mulled wine, soaked in the great atmosphere. Felt very lucky to drop in on such a great night. Second time here (same time a year ago). Delivered again. Will be back again I hope.

Highly recommended, I went here for lunch with my Daughter today and everything was amazing. The food was very nice, the staff were very friendly and the service was outstanding. We will definitely be going back soon.

We were greeted as soon as we entered this busy pub on a Saturday evening by lovely cheerful girls at the bar. We were served our drinks and meal swiftly. The menu is mainly good British pub classic food which is freshly cooked and attention is given to every meal which leaves the kitchen ! We choose fish & chips and scampi snd chips. The fish was very fresh and tasty. We had a crisp salad too which had a nice dressing. The food is of great quality but what we liked about this pub was the staff and atmosphere. Ludlow is a lovely Shropshire town and we will definitely return to this pub when we visit Ludlow in the future. Thank you to the team at The Blue Boar.

A lovely spot to chill out in. Four of us for lunch all enjoyed the food, the drinks and the atmosphere. Particularly liked the play posters! Local ales excellent.

I love The Blue Boar. It’s always been my favourite pub in Ludlow. However, I was very let down by the food yesterday. I usually have the vegetable lasagna, which wasn’t on the menu this time and is great. I just had some chips to ride me over until we had dinner later that evening at the same pub, but the chips were so bad this time that I cancelled the booking. They were soggy and the potato was a little hard. It was such a shame as usually the food is great here. Apart from that, it’s still a great pub that I’d always recommend, but please, sort those chips out!

A bit ho hum. Staff avoided eye contact while we were waiting at bar, service off-hand, food took a while and when it arrived it was ok but nothing special. Chips were served together on a plate with wet salad, resulting in wet chips.

Possibly the best Sunday lunch we’ve ever had. Excellent portions, well cooked, an abundance of vegetables and crispy crackling (we had the pork-obviously!). No room for pudding!

A lovely place to go for lunch. Excellent friendly staff. Delicious food and very busy. Just as a pub should be. Spotlessly clean and charming. How somebody can leave a bad review claiming they had received a poor welcome. I mean come on 12 people turning up without booking is a bit stupid. Delightful in every way.

Called in on the off chance, greeted by a not nice server, rude because we didn’t other book. 11 of us. They didn’t really want to accommodate us, had to push tables together. Then clapped cutlery on table. Further rude comments were made. We walked out, went elsewhere

We attempted to have lunch here but the exceptionally rude waitress clearly did not want to accommodate a larger party and made her feelings very clear several times in the short space we were there before it became that bad that we left before even ordering. Apparently her attitude was down to her hangover when we asked for more menus when she supplied 2 for a party of 12 and we were told no... unless your looking for an alternative to Karen's diner I'd give it a miss.

Highly disappointed with the whole experience and glad that we decided to leave. From the moment we walked in the staff were incredibly rude and dismissive. One staff member even joked that her attitude was due to being hungover. Such a shame as we were a group of 11 people that were all wanting food and drinks…

Had a great day in the Ludlow sunshine, visited the castle and found the Blue Boar and it was dog friendly so we popped in for lunch today. Great quality, hot & tasty food. Was quite busy when we walked in but it was certainly worth the wait. Compliments to the all the staff for a fantastic experience. Highly recommended.
