We thought this would be the perfect place for a family meal on a Saturday evening, as it was advertised as family friendly. It couldn’t be further from the truth. Firstly, we were sat by the children’s play area, which we thought was perfect. However, we experienced many young men going in and out of the toilet and we knew what they were doing. We even heard one of them say “It’s okay, we get away with it in here, the manager is sound and doesn’t give a s***t. That said it all. It seemed as if the manager also didn’t care about staff wellbeing either, as the poor 3 female members of staff that were working were so flat out, we could tell that they were burning out due to stress. As a company who prides themself on staff wellbeing, I really suggest Marston’s should be definitely be discussing this with the so called manager of the Squirrel. To be fair to the food, it was presented well and was nice and there was no issues and the service, despite the fact the waitresses were rushed off their feet, the service was superb. As for the ambience, it was horrendously loud by the TV section of the pub, it seemed as if they were the ones taking regular visits to the toilets. Again, as advertised as a family friendly pub, this was definitely not the case. I asked a young lady behind the bar if the manager was present, however she said that he wasn’t this evening and this was the only member of staff who was working. Me and my husband both said to ourselves that 3 members of staff on a Saturday evening was extremely short staffed, especially as we heard that there was a local tattoo show in the local area. I suggest Marston’s should definitely be considering the tenure of the manager of the Squirrel as it definitely seems that this place is significantly getting worse and definitely doesn’t appeal for their “family friendly advertisement”.

Came on a Saturday early evening, seemed to be only one person working, she wasn’t happy! Seated us then left us to our own devices. We gave up waiting to be served at table so went to bar. She served someone but then went to clear glasses, ignoring us at the bar. We got the message & left. We are quite local but won’t come back. Really poor- under staffed & clearly staff member there not happy.

I met Neil one of the new supervisors and said too him how much better the place is since we came about 7 months ago. Its so much cleaner and the staff are much more polite. No waiting around as before when the staff were sitting around having a chat. I came once before with my son and was told to wait 20 minutes before I could order food for him as basically there were no clean tables and the staff were either sitting down or outside having a quick fag. Not ideal in customer service really. We will be back with our son as he likes the play area and we have seen such massive improvements with the staff and service. Neil is very good in his role and very professional.

This is my second visit to Ludlow this year and my second time visiting the Squirrel. I think it is the staff that really make this place a great location to visit. Everyone is friendly and informal and genuinely interested in your visit and satisfaction. The food is varied and delicious, there was certain flair about how it was presented to my friend and I. We felt well looked after. Staff to mention in particular are Zeryn, Cat and James. Many Thanks.

Staying at the hotel next door, and called here for convenience. Decent chain pub food at a good price, good selection of drinks and plenty of choice on the menu. Sat outside in the sun for pre meal drinks, very pleasant, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. But what was really great about this place was Andy, the manager, nothing was too much trouble and really took time to chat about our visit, the pub, area etc. What makes good pubs is good staff who care and Andy is a credit to Marston's who leads by example. All very covid safe and it was good to see young staff challenging customers on not wearing mask's etc.

Staying in the hotel next door it seemed an obvious choice for a dinner on arrival. The staff were just there to do their job. The food was very poor, a microwave was used a little too long! With eyes closed, we couldn't have decided the contents on taste alone. Chicken Tikka Masala was tastless with pulled chicken that was too hard to eat. Jam roly poly was a solid square lump of not cooked through 'dough' with a meagre scraping of jam on top. Two hungry diners retreated to our room for snacks. Not to be repeated. Travel into Ludlow!!

Having taken my 90 year old Dad for Celebration they managed to first forget his meal altogether. Then offered a complimentary drink which was not drunk. His meal came out dried up and completely inedible. The assistant manager took no reason responsibility for the food or the service only to blame the kitchen staff and Covid??? For the poor quality of food served . As I was leaving she said you got a free meal and free drink with her back to me and said don’t blame me ! neither of which were drunk or eaten as the food was inedible. I told her she was rude and left. She said the menu had been altered because of Covid clearly to the detriment, the salad is now basic and not what the used to be like there. The steak full of Gristle and served with dried up rocket and a tomato. It certainly has gone down since Covid ! Shockingly bad!

On bank holiday Monday August 2020, my wife and I were met by an enthusiastic young woman who directed us to our table. I must however admit that I didn't feel very safe. As we are all aware, we are in the midst of a global pandemic, but did we get temperature checked? No we jolly well did not! We weren't even asked to sanitize our hands, and not a single member of staff wore a mask, or sanitized themselves between interaction with various tables. Although I did like the fact that menus are disposed of after use. Now, going on to the food. I must admit this was rather delightful, and I have no criticism to raise on this matter. Saying that, in the future, the chefs could provide more gravy with the chicken, as it is a little dry.As our waitress was clearing our plates, my wife noticed that there isn't an appropriate uniform amongst staff. One young lady in particular, when questioned on this matter, thought it would be 'fashionable' to turn up to work wearing horrible coloured footwear. I completely disagree. On the whole, our trip to the Squirrel was adequate. If we were not attempting to survive a pandemic, it would have been rather enjoyable and not stressful. Perhaps, it was a matter of being at the right place at the wrong time. We may return when one day after the Coronavirus.

Bearing in mind a bottle can be brought for 87p imagine my shock on paying 2.80 a pint. There was an offer of 4 bottles for £12 but when I asked if it included 61 Deep was told "no" despite stating otherwise on their website.Next time we went to the bar Pedigree was available. This was £3.95 a pint. The dearest of all the pubs we went to over the weekend. Marston's should be ashamed. And where was the VAT reduction. Also had breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was OK but a little over cooked. Must say my Chicken Curry was very nice and was wife was very happy with her Lasagne.Staff on Sunday night were excellent.Only awarding 3 stars as nothing special and high prices.

It was a little strange being the first day of opening but once we entered everything was well organised and socially distanced. as for the food that was excellent pub food and I can recommend the fish and chips.so, all in all, the Squirrel is well worth stopping at, the food is really good and the service was excellent. thanks to all the management and staff there, will see you all again soon.

Easy to get to. good parking, limited menu it seemed at the moment. Doing some good things for covid prevention. Three of us went had steak and ale pie, Cambodian curry and steak. I had had ale pie which I found to be hard and microwaved or just overcooked. I had a wonderful home cooked one the day before at the white hart Broadoak. This one was the other end of the scale. Tough pastry, less meat and so dry, chips nice, veg good, but just let down by pie. prices are ok. My pie was £4.00 cheaper but still not worth it. Daughter said Curry was ok and wife's steak was good. Apple pie again not home cooked and let down by its dismal pastry. Just a bit disappointed.

We were met at the door by a bubbly waitress (Megan I think her name was?) and she talked us through all the new precautions they were taking. After filing in the online registration, we chose a table. We were then met by another bubbly waitress - Hannah - She took our food and drinks order, and answered all our questions about the menu. Our food came quickly and was piping hot. Both of our meals were delicious! We will definitely be coming back very soon! Thanks for making our first pub visit after lockdown such a pleasant one!

Last night me and my partner witnessed a group of young girls being ‘kicked out’ of this pub for no reason. The girls were told they weren’t allowed to be served as one member of their group was too drunk, so they all left and came back several hours later (without the ‘drunk’ girl) and were not allowed entry as they had “been asked to leave, for reasons that staff don’t need to explain”. From what I heard, the girls had been told they weren’t allowed to be served but they were not asked to leave, hence why then came back without their other friend.Shocking staff, no reasons behind their unfair judgement, especially when the young girls were contributing largely to the income of the pub that night!! Not even the ‘manager’ had the decency to explain the decision which I find extremely unprofessional . Definitely would not want my daughters going to this pub. Disgusting serviceSocial distancing measures were hardly in place, and tables weren’t wiped after people had left Which contributes to my dislike for this pub even more. Several lost customers after last night

We called in, at the Squirrel, on our way home , from a classic car auction.on 4/3/20.at 14.14.We ordered an 8oz Sirloin Steak, to be cooked medium. and a light bite fish and chips. the meals arrived at 14.26. The steak which was fat, grizzly, and grossly undercooked. As it was cut, the blood ran out, it could be clearly seen , that it had hardly been cooked. The blood was all over the rest of the food. It was not edible. I complained and a sorry was given, staff didnt seem shocked at all. Another steak was cooked, well it was still very pink, but it was just about edible. I would not have expected medium, to be so pink. The light bite Fish & Chips , was extremely small, the fish was watery, tasteless, and could have been hotter than it was. Because of the wait time, having to have the steak cooked, it meant that we ate our food seperately. and the cheese sauce for the steak was no longer hot. We were not offered any compensation for this poor service, no offer of free dessert, or money off the meal. the steak was 11.95 the cheesy sauce another 1.50. and the extremely small fish and chips were 6.45.So not particulary cheap. We were certainly unimpressed, with the quality , and undercooking of the food. We will not be returning to the Squirrel. We

We visited the Squirrel in February, on the wettest weekend on record. We booked a family reunion in Ludlow as a midway point for a party of 19. The Squirrel kindly accommodated us for dinner. Arriving at lunch time it became clear that the weather was so poor that visiting Ludlow Town was out of the question, so we ensconced ourselves in the pub until we could check into the hotel. With a few beers inside the noise levels rose, which was probably distracting for other customers, however the staff at the Squirrel were very patient and retained a good sense of humour. This continued throughout the meal and I was really impressed by their professionalism and patience. So disappointed I researched somewhere to stop and saw a great vegan menu, ordered then had a huge wait, chased food to be told it’s being plated now with no apology,my “vegan” dinner came out and was some sort of Califlower cheese pie,had to check twice before being taken away, then my dinner came out with a Yorkshire pudding on,again asked is this vegan waiter went back checked and came back with a bowl to take it off my plate, never mind it was on top of most of my veg,I was so hungry I just scraped this food off to my dads plate to eat,I asked for a drink whilst waiting for my food, wasn’t offered this for a discount or free, when asked if everything was ok explained what had happened to be given a look and no apology really,my dads mixed grill was over cooked and loads left, bill came charged fully and again no apology from chef, manager or waitress I spoke to,only true apology was from a young waiter who you could see felt awful!really annoyed with whole experience to be honest!apologies and care to a long way, this place unfortunately doesn’t seem to-Marstons venues normally do a lot better

In Ludlow on holiday for a couple of days and visited the squirrel pub which we have eaten there before and were not disappointed. We choose the rib eye steaks and we could not fault them. The meal was hot, steaks cooked just as we like and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. Keep up the good work.

We come into the squirrel quite often... Yesterday was another one of our ventures. The foods hit and miss at this venue, but it's a Marston's, so it's cheaper than most places around Ludlow. So, you get what you pay for really.

We took our daughter out for a birthday meal today and it was awful, the service was awful, the food was cold, we were overcharged for the children’s meals (we did get the extra back after enquiring about it) then we waited over half an hour for our puddings and when it came ,my partner had a huge piece of foil left in the middle of his melt in the middle chocolate pudding! I gave it back the the barman, no apology ,but he did refund that pudding, overall the whole experience was disappointing and we won’t be returning, Shame, as it is a nice pub, but don’t waste your money on the food

Went to The Squirrel for a family dinner. We opted for the sunday mixed meat roast. Chicken was dry, beef was inedible as so dry & the pork, well no meat at all, just fat! The roast potatoes were soggy, a very strange texture & tasted vile. However, the yorkshire pudding was nice. Wouldn't recommend a sunday dinner there.

My friend and I looked up dog friendly pubs in Ludlow as we have two cocker spaniels that come with us everywhere. The Squirrel came up on Google so we went to have lunch. It was a rainy day and we were told that dogs were only allowed outside. This does not make a dog friendly pub. If you have a four legged friend don’t bother stopping at the Squirrel you will not get a friendly welcome. Luckily Ludlow has other establishments that were happy to serve us.

This is a typical Marstons pub restaurant. There is plenty of parking and room for everyone, but you are recommended to book a table for dinner. Their speciality is from their rotisserie machine but the meat was quite dry. Other dishes were fine. As for breakfasts, the top of the menu is a monster size portion ! Go for it and be set up for a full day out walking in Ludlow.

Very busy when we visited Sunday lunchtime. Lots of parking and inside plenty of tables. We ordered our drinks and were advised that the food would likely be a 25 to 30 min wait. No problem for us we took it easy and chatted. The food came in about 20mins , roast dinner plus and a scampi meal, the roast was huge and there was lots of scampi. Unfortunately the roast potatoes were cool but a lashing of hot gravy got them going. The table across from ours had two families with two separate orders and both ordered one after the other :- something went WRONG as one family had food whilst the other had none. This needs looking into ASAP as there is clearly something not right here!!

We used to eat her about once a month but hadn't been for a while. We ate here twice in August and won't bother to go back. Poor service, long delay to receiving order and barely acceptable food. Such a shame as it used to be reasonable for a quick meal. The management should take a look at the Barn Owl in Worcester. Also a Marstons pub but it's so much better than the Squirrel on all fronts. I think the Squirrel has become complacent as there is nothing similar in Ludlow.

As we were staying at the Travelodge next door, we thought it was the obvious choice to have breakfast here. The pub looked nice from the outside. We entered and asked where to sit and was pointed in the direction we assumed we had to sit. We then sat there for 15 minutes as the waitress ignored us. I understand that there we're other people in the pub, but, 'I'll be with you in a minute', would of taken no time and shown us that she was aware that we were waiting. We left, I'm pretty sure she didn't notice. A shame,! as the pub could do a lot of business from the hotel

Visited for breakfast and 2 dinners on our annual stay in Ludlow this summer (2019). Enjoyed every visit and have been a few times over the years. The Squirrel has changed management in the years we’ve visited, but each time it’s given us exactly as expected from a chain pub. Friendly staff (particularly Helen our waiting on lady who we’ve had the pleasure of being served by on a number of occasions), good offers and nice surroundings. Thank you Squirrel Ludlow. I’m sure we’ll be back again.

Monday night is Burger night for £6.00. Burgers are overcooked and burnt. Not reccomended. Tuesday night is half a chicken for £6.00 and is thoroughly reccomended. Excellent fare. I think i had child portions had about 10 chips which were cold good amount of peas which were ok and the gammon was burnt and cold, the egg on top was fried solid .i really dont know why i came here again we get one good meal out of about ten . They are a black mark on the pub chain as others do a good job except this place .i would avoid unless your going to die without eating something I'm sure i will not be going back again .enough is enough .

Decided to pop in with my mother-in-law and hubby, after having a disappointing experience about a year ago. We were immediately greeted at the door and we then sat ourselves. We were served by a really attentive waitress (whom, I wish I had asked for her name) who took our food and drink order. When the food came, the steaks were cooked to perfection. I could not fault the service and food today. We will definitely be back.

Went for lunch. The starter was average. The main courses took over an hour to arrive and when they did they did not look good and neither taste good. The burger and the bacon was burnt and the gammon was burnt too. Since I was pressed for time (due to delay in time waiting) I did not say anything about the burger. To be fair they did not charge my family member who had the Gammon. The waitress did not apologise for the long delay to be served the main courses. This is not the first time that we have had to complain to the staff about their food and their service. I’ve given up on this place.
