We decided to give The Dog at Dunley a try after hearing some great reviews. The service was very good and the staff were very friendly. My daughter ordered the sausage & mash and when it came the portions were good. After eating half of the sausages one of them tasted off. When the waitress came to take the leftovers, we told her that the sausage was off. She said she would mention it to the chef. After bringing the bill she said the chef said he was really sorry about the sausage being off. Then we were still charged the full amount for the meal. It was very disappointing as the pub is close to where we live and would have used it often. But it was very off putting and don’t think we will go again.

We were welcomed very warmly and shown to our seats. We were then told the buffet was ready which looked absolutely glorious. The gentleman that served us was very polite and the food was magnificent. We even took some away for Mum for dinner. We will definitely be back again. Outstanding service and outstanding food.

This review is rated for early 1990's when i used to come here every Friday night without fail for a meal to play pool get the jukebox booming and have a great all round night at a great pub i intend to come back this year and see how its changed will be great to see if it matches my memories from when landlords Paul and Dave used to be there ! I certainly hope so i look forward to meeting the new landlord/s and have a look around the old place , great place fantastic memories.

We returned here because of our camping experience here 10 years ago. Unfortunately it’s nose dived since then! The Toilet Block (new 10 yrs ago) hasn’t been maintained very well since, although the cleanliness was 1st class. Only 1 in 3 lights worked leaving 1 shower unusable. The food was dire with an inedible mush served up as a lasagne. The Artisan Pie, with delicious incredients, was ruined by being overheated in a microwave not oven! We won’t be back!

We had dinner at this hotel/restaurant. We were staying nearby and the handbook at our cottage recommended it. Given its fairly remote location we were surprised at how busy it was, and I suspect that the hotel does brisk business with retirees. The food was good - using local and seasonal produce a lot. As we were in asparagus season it featured quite a bit, as did rhubarb. Although the decor is a little tired the menu is very up to date. For mains we had duck and local deer. The deer was nicely cooked but the portion was on the stingy side. For deserts we went classic with a creme brûlée and a panacotta with rhubarb, both delicious. There is a good value three course menu, offering two to three choices for each course. If you like what’s on there i recommend that you go for it. One other point is that for the a la carte menu, the prices illustrated on the hotel’s website are about 25% less than the actual prices - this reslly needs updating and is something to consider.

Ten of us had lunch here. First the positives...The staff were excellent, polite helpful and efficient. However, food was very mixed. The Cod & chips were huge, two pieces of cod with nice crispy batter. The Sea Bream however was extremely small. I've seen bigger anchovies (which brings me on to me Caesar Salad). I ordered a Caesar salad with poached duck egg for my mains. When it arrived, the romaine lettuce came with halved cherry tomatoes and sliced cucumber. For God's Sake!! hasn't the chef ever done a Caesar salad before? What the hell was cucumber & tomato doing in it? It had no anchovies, only a couple of croutons and a bare sprinkling of Parmesan. I asked about the cheeseboard and was told it comprised of Cheddar, Shropshire Blue and Goat's cheese. I asked if I could just have the Shropshire blue. When it arrived the cheese was actually Stilton not Shropshire blue. The restaurant is in a nice location next to the lake, but the kitchen really need to get their act together. No wonder we were the only ones there!

Ten miles walking around the Teme Valley and lunch here, heaven! What a warm and friendly welcome, terrific food (we had the Lion burger, top notch beef and trimmings with chunky chips) and of course real ales from Wye Valley brewery (nothing like a well kept pint of Butty Bach) this traditional restaurant is brilliant!

We have just had a fabulous lunch on our 18th wedding anniversary. The seafood pancake starter was to die for, my husband had the deep fried camembert. Mains was slow roasted pork shoulder, dauphinoise potatoes and plenty of fresh vegetables, husband had deep fried chicken in panko breadcrumbs, mash and fresh veg. Unfortunately we could not manage a dessert. Thank again for making our day special.
