We were gifted a voucher for an afternoon cream tea here. Upon arrival we sat at the bar, waiting for to be called in. The afternoon tea was unlimited selection of teas or coffee, and set amount of sandwiches, sausage rolls, scones and cakes. We liked the restaurant area and the view. I'd recommend this place for a stay or dining out or for afternoon tea.

On 17th September at 20.08 I booked a table for my wife’s birthday on 15 October . I contacted on the 14th as I had forgotten the exact time of the table, only to be told that my booking had been cancelled because I hadn’t given card details… I was not asked for this and as I was at home when I booked I could have easily complied ….. When I asked if they could fit us in I was told no ,because there was a large group booked in the restaurant , and they had booked months ago ! As i consolation a member of staff said she’d arrange for us to have a free drink if we rebooked ! I spoke to another staff member the following day ,and she emailed back and informed me that the General Manager would contact me this weekend . It’s 21.30 now on Sunday and nothing . Imagine if I’d have remembered the table time ,and we’d turned up !!

Restaurant decor was nice and modern, service was OK. We both had the tasting menu option. The majority of the courses were nice, but I'm afraid to say that the dessert was a letdown. The panna cotta was overset, and the chocolate dessert was not put on the plate well and looked a bit of a mess. When the bill was paid, I had to find my own coat.

This is a lovely restaurant in a beautiful setting, however as with some other reviews I agree that it is overpriced and greater than it's aspirations. The food is overpriced by at least 20%. The advertised sourdough was definitely, not sourdough and seemed to be from supermarket, and the olives presented were soft and had no taste as though they were from a very cheap source. The food although not bad just isn't up to the price charged. The staff are very pleasant and helpful but the kitchen needs to up is game or lower it's price.

A great hotel halfway up the hill, with a backdoor to the path to go up and see the amazing views. The rooms are big and cosy, much bigger than expected for an older building, and of very modern design. The views are stunning, and breakfast served in the morning is not a buffet but a proper table service. Wow! Would highly recommend to people wanting to walk the hills and indulge afterwards. Only minor thing - parking is challenging and we struggled to find place.

Perhaps, the location and views are the only redeeming features. Rooms - Shabby with no thought given to the layout. If you like dust, then you’ve come to stay at the right place. However, plenty of soft towels provided and the bed was comfortable. Shower - The temperature was lukewarm at best. The shower tray did not drain sufficiently which meant my partner had to forgo the pleasure of having a shower. I mentioned the lukewarm water and shower tray to the (oh so helpful but couldn’t give a toss) Receptionist who said she would arrange for maintenance to inspect. Given the smell of damp and uneven flooring, I suspect this is not the first time this has occurred. Food - The portions are small and it may be advisable to have a small snack before (or after) your meal. This did not overly concern us as we had read the previous reviews. Breakfast was an odd affair. Perhaps the butter and side plate were there simply for decoration? At no point were we offered toast to accompany our choice from the menu. Bizarre! The coffee was good. The tables are situated far too close to each other. So off-putting. Service - This was somewhat lacking and certainly something they need to improve on.

The hotel’s location has fantastic views and walks around the Malvern hills. We found the check in experience difficult, as the room we booked was different to what was given, the receptionist did change our room, and explained the issue was with who we booked through, So be careful who you book with as a deluxe is not worded the same as on their website. The room we had in the coach house was boiling hot, and had had dogs in previously as the smell was apparent, the floor is very creaky and the decor could do with updating. Breakfast was very good, and overall a good stay, though would have been disappointed to have paid £200 for that room a night.

Will I eat at the 1919 restaurant again? A resounding ‘No. Why? There was simply not enough food and consequently you had to buy side dishes at £5 each and we had to pay supplements for crab and lamb! Why? We only had about a tablespoon of crab each and four very small pieces of lamb - definitely NOT worth the extra charge. then we had a service charge of £18+. We ended up paying £43 more for our meal on top of the set 3 course meal charge. What we had was nice BUT we have eaten in far, far superior restaurants for far less. We also didn’t like the service charge being added to our bill - if I want to pay for good service then it’s up to me to decide how much, not the restaurateurs. (In this case they did themselves a dis-service, because the service was superb and I was going to leave a £25 tip….) This is NOT a Michelin starred restaurant, despite its aspirations and pretention. I could not and would not, recommend this restaurant to anyone, sorry.

My wife and I came here last Friday for dinner and overnight stay to celebrate her birthday and our anniversary. What a good choice we made! Such a charming, friendly and welcoming hotel in a gorgeous location with superb views over the surrounding countryside. Our room was clean, cosy and very comfortable (with a bed, bowl and treats for our dog too!). What made our short stay truly special though was the dinner - absolutely superb in every aspect. We had the 3 course special menu and it was worth every penny and every course was perfectly cooked and stylishly presented. An excellent fixed price dinner in the main restaurant, fine cooking and presentation. Readily accommodated some intolerances. Service was friendly and professional. Very good wine list, but would be nice to offer a 250ml glass. Later during our visit we had a bar meal. What can I say about Rob Mason’s cooking other than absolutely stunning? 1919 at The Cottage in the Wood is a real gem and with their lunchtime offers are a complete bargain. In my opinion the food is Michelin quality at an exceptionally reasonable price. The food is beautifully presented, almost a mini work of art and the bread they serve is straight from the oven and absolutely delicious. The setting with the view from the Malvern hills is breathtaking. The only minor criticism I’d have is that the service is sometimes a little slow, but well worth it. We shall return again and again…

A beautiful location. We were celebrating a significant birthday, so wanted it to be perfect. We had drinks on the terrace looking out on a magnificent view. Perfect. We had booked a table in the window, no such luck, we were located by the door. The drinks waiter came first. No problem. We had to wait 20 minutes for them to take our food order, and another 20 minutes before muse bouche arrived. The food was good, muse bouche , excellent, starters miniscule but nice. Main course was good. We had the lamb. (£8 supplement) Veg extra (£5). Pudding was divine. So in conclusion, front of house training required. Don't serve the wine before taking the food order. Dont promice a window seat and then fail to honour the promise. Everything else was tickety boo. Which means GREAT.

Special Birthday dinner. The food was 1st class, great flavours, well timed, and left us feeling fully satisfied. The attention to the Birthday occasion was great, a birthday card and Happy Birthday decoration on the table. If I have gripe , advice it would be the attention to, and interacting with customers as they arrive through to when they leave. I Had to prompt three different staff they we had arrived and to ask for menus to browse. Bar staff used to bar as a bit of a barrier rather than coming to the seating area to ask guests if they would like a drink. No coffee follow through from dining room to lounge etc. When paying £450 for dinner these are some of the small details that make a big difference. Very little interaction between restaurant staff and guests. A bit of training required. Other than this we had a great meal.

Booked in advance for a Saturday night meal for our anniversary. Both of us opted for the tasting menu. We ordered a bottle of wine, which took a very long time to arrive, it then took a ridiculously long time for the 1st course scallop to be served, which was listed in the menu given to us as having grilled mackerel with it. Ours didn't have the grilled mackerel. I questioned this with one of the staff, who said we had the wrong menu. and then went off for a long period of time to then show us a menu which didnt have the mackerel on it. It felt like he'd gone to print off a different menu without mackerel on there as if to say he was right. No apology, nothing. Just expected to accept this fault. The lamb course was dreadful. Tepid and the tiny piece of lamb was tough. Again after a long wait we got our cod course. This is where my evening finished. I had to leave my plate and go back to the room. This was about 10pm. I was sick all evening. There was something in this course that wasn't right. Im writing this review the following day and Im still unable to eat anything. My partner decided to stay and notified the waiter that it would only be him for the remainder of the meal. Despite this, they bought out 2 plates for the cheese course. This was apparently terrible too. My partner finished the meal and this was about midnight, he intended to finish his drink in the bar and was informed by the bar lady that everyone had to go because she wanted to go home. He was asked to leave the restaurant abruptly too as they needed to make the restaurant up for breakfast the next day. Seems a bit of a joke after being made to wait for the food for so long. This final insult was a service charge automatically being added to the bill. There was no check back or any kind of customer service. We were also charged for both meals. Having worked in hospitality and catering, I do understand the pressures of the industry. The restaurant wasn't busy and no one was accountable. It absolutely ruined our evening and the following day for me. The alarming thing is something is terribly wrong with the food as it made me very unwell. It would be appreciated if a member of the management would get in touch about this.

There is nothing inherently wrong with the food but it just was not great (I am a very keen experimental cook myself so extra fussy!). I had pigs cheek to start and it was pretty tasteless, under seasoned and dry. My steak (and we are in steak country here) was rather tough (no steak knife) and considering the cost (£29!) It was not great. I wasn't expecting a bog standard steak offering for this price, and the chips were average at best. The onion rings were very greasy.Dessert was good (punchy interesting flavours) though so my guess is maybe that's the chef's area and not savoury dishes? (Had a meal for half the price in Ross On Wye at No3 restaurant a couple of nights after which was incredible and very tasty!)If you're looking for something tasty or like bold flavours I would say avoid. If you have money to burn and just want a cosy meal in the hotel you're staying in then go for it!

I have no objection to paying North of £20 for a main course but with a higher price tag come higher expectations. Dishes were well presentated but flavours were distinctly lacking in both starter and main. Things perked up a little when dessert arrived but overall the experience was lucklustre. A lovely place to dine in a superb setting. The food was good and the service was quite good too, limited on the vegetarian side of things but we all managed to find something on the menu to suit us.

The restaurant and its staff were outstanding. We would rate the food among the best meals we've had this year. The chef was superb; we were blown away by the quality and served in such a friendly and professional manner -- a really welcome change to London.Me to start: Cornish crab, wasabi mayo, mango, avocado sorbet, squid ink crackers.>>this was utterly superb, every single element a delight to savour.Me main: Roast Cornish hake, orzo, asparagus, cuttlefish, peas, lemon, sea lettuce.>>>again cooked to perfection. A real wow meal. Congratulations to the chef.

While the food was good the service was very slow. Ages before we got a menu, over 10 minutes later before we got drinks. We went in at 8.00 and it was 9.00 before we got our main course. This was an expensive meal and service didn't warrant the price. There is no longer a bed breakfast and evening meal option here.Breakfast was even worse. Cold buffet and hot options to order. Over 10 minutes before we were even able to order drinks. Got our coffee 20 minutes after coming in and our hot food 35 minutes after coming in.We've been here 3 times previously and were very impressed but not under present ownership. I doubt we'll be returning.

Really enjoyed our lunch here 4 years ago, so nice to see still very good. Bit too cool to sit outside but splendid views from the 1919 restaurant. Bread made on the premises just as we remembered it, and I must mention their own bottled spring fizzy water, really good. The cooking was as one would expect from a restaurant with slightly higher prices, and worth every penny. Very pleased with the service from very diligent young man. Highly recommended, excellent food with superb view.

I had fond memories of good food and friendly staff at this beautifully positioned hotel and so I was looking forward to a birthday meal there with family which was just for an ordinary Sunday evening, not a bank holiday or anything.

The food and service was good. However, they only have one vegetarian option. The portion sizes were also very small for the price, to get away with sizes that small I would expect much higher quality of the food. My dessert was basically a bowel full of froth too. Not sure I would eat here again. The window was also open in the restaurant, which meant there was loads of flies by our table.

We have eaten here MANY times in past 2.5 years (not that the restaurant/hotel ever remembers!!) and were looking forward to this meal for a belated birthday lunch for my husband. His favourite restaurant in this area.

Booked as an evening get together with friends, we arrived to a strong smell of fish, shown to our table where we perused the menu, looked like it was written by Jacob Rees Mogg, very floury language. Two chose ‘cured duck’, two chose cauliflower ‘enthused with emulsion’, My wife couldn’t eat the duck, completely raw, tough and sinuey, obviously not completely cured of the disease it obviously had, My cauliflower was also raw but with a white emulsion poured over it, I think they should have used magnolia emulsion! I think it was this that gave me the indegestion. Main course, very obscure choices from pigs head to eel, Three of us chose the enticing sounding Cornish Cod with crab etc; wife had lamb which she enjoyed; the cod was grey in colour, with soggy skin and no sign of crab, although it did have a mustard coloured ‘joooo’ over it, not very nice, our friends cod arrived 10 minutes after the first offerings. Deserts, .....without the detail ....two courses were different to what was ordered. The table cutlery was dirty, the atmosphere that of an old folks home, (some of my best friends are old). All in all, not a pleasant experience in a very over priced restaurant. We also felt that the staff did very little to make amends for the many fundamental errors. We will not be returning.

We went here for my wife's birthday when family joined us from around the country, so we were looking for a special experience. We weren't disappointed. The location here is stunning of course but we were also treated to some splendid food, well cooked and presented with good wine to compliment. The staff were attentive and friendly and they went out of their way to help, especially in finding us taxis home after we were let down by a taxi firm on the outward journey. I have no hesitation n recommending this restaurant. Most importantly, my wife loved it.

The outside area is 'tired' tatty tables and unkempt garden area. The young and enthusiastic staff were refreshingly helpful and being politely served outside was akin to being in the Med in the 60s and 70s!! A delight!!

Fantastic food . With great prices . I ordered the gammon. The meat was so tender and juicy . The egg was cooked to perfection and proper big chips. The service was outstanding and nothing was too much trouble . I will definitely be coming back.

After an ordeal with hotels.com (not Mount Pleasant Hotels fault) we finally got to our room. It was lovely. Squeaky floors yes but tbh this just added to age and style of the property. Reception lady was no end of help too and we enjoyed our stay. Attached to the property is an Asian fusion style restaurant which was ok in my opinion but I think there is likely some other better options out there.
