Called into this pub a couple of weeks back for a bite to eat. The food arrived promptly and was delicious, very reasonably priced too. Have returned since for further meals and to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a drink. Super-friendly staff and the pub was very clean and warm. Highly recommend.

I noted that most of the negative reviews were from 2021 /22 not good years for the hospitality trade. We have been to this pub a few times now and have always found the staff friendly and helpful. The food is wholesome and nicely presented, its pub grub not haute cuisine,if you want haute cuisine go elsewhere and pay the price. We would recommend this pub to our family and friends without a doubt.

We randomly entered Pub near me into Google whilst visiting Croome House. Royal Oak did not disappoint. Offered two sizes of roast, smaller perfect for my wife. She enjoyed her beef and I my chicken. Never before seen such a vast quantity of veg in a pub lunch. Most places skimp on veg. OK not busy, (why not), but service great. Fast and friendly. Great value two lunch, drink each, £20.50.

We went for Sunday lunch after seeing the Royal Oak menu posted on Facebook and thought we'd give it a try. Friendly welcome and seated straight away. Food is reasonably priced; £10.95 for a large roast and £8.95 for the smaller (which I suppose is a child's but not stated as such and was barely any different from the large, which was strange? A better pricing structure would've been say £6.95 and make it an actual child's portion) The pub, I thought, was very dated (the general decor, pictures, fixtures and fittings were definitely left over from the 80s) and the entrance was quite scruffy with a very tatty old mat when you first walked in and the porch could've done with a wipe around and a lick of paint (as could've most of the pub if I'm being honest!) Food was okay but nothing really to shout about. Meat was cooked well and a decent couple of slices per meal. A bowl of veg per table that was all plonked in together and for some strange reason, the carrots were cut into 1mm slices? Plenty of gravy, which was a plus I suppose. The thing that really let the roast down for me was the 'roasted' potatoes and parsnips. They were more boiled in my opinion, and then rolled in fat, so none of that nice tasty crunch which makes a nice roast lunch for me. Shame as could be good with a few tweeks but I don't think we'll bother again in the future.

We were in the area visiting the Croome National Trust site which was lovely. We wanted a Sunday lunch and saw this place as we were passing through. Entered the bar area and the bar was quite busy, the landlord soon served our drinks and we had the opportunity to meet the lovely dog who appeared to live on the premises. He was very friendly too and we love dogs so this was a bonus! Soon got seated and ordered 2 lamb dinners. We enjoyed the food very much and there was plenty of veg. We also had desserts of apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding which were also very enjoyable. We would very much recommend this place whether you are local or are passing through. Thanks to all.

The Royal Oak is definitely not disabled friendly as there are many steps to encounter before reaching the restaurant. My elderly mother had to be pushed up the final steps! Therefore, we will not be returning! It's a shame because although the food portions were small they were very well cooked and to my mum's delight the vegetables were well cooked and not rock hard.

Pleasant enough off the beaten track pub and the bar was well filled with locals. Only one other restaurant table occupied for Sunday lunch however and it’s not hard to see why: the food had a decidedly freezer-to microwave-to table taste and texture. We went for a day out at Croome National Trust and wanted a pub lunch. As this pub was very close, we drove there for a meal and some drinks. The Oak is a proper pub, a great selection of drinks, and Doombar on tap, which is always a bonus. The food menu was very typical for the type of pub, with a few nice unexpected options like an omelette. We had 4 adult meals, a kids meal and 6 drinks and the whole bill came to £55. Brilliant value, and the food was really good. Not fancy, but just good quality and tasty. The burger was of a really good standard, would highly recommend.

We tried the royal oak for the first time last night as a family of four adults on recommendation from a friend. We were not disappointed at all. I had tried to book a table for around 7pm but the earliest we could get was 8.30pm and this was on a Wednesday evening which speaks volumes in itself. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table and a drinks order taken. Drinks arrived in good time and our starter and main food order was taken. I will not go into detail about what food was ordered but everything we ate was superb. Well cooked, hot plates and everything came out at the same time. We consider ourselves to be foodies and we appreciate good food and this was very good food. Staff are friendly and helpful but it intrusive. We will be back.

The parking isn't great - a modest number of double length spaces out the front where you can get blocked in. We ate in the conservatory which even on a cloudy summer day was oppressively hot (we opened the fire exit which let cool air in). The Sunday 24 hour roasted beef was tough (many apologies and a better slice was provided). Other meals were superb. A blackboard of desserts was provided, but a long wait to be asked for our order. The desserts we excellent. At this stage i was going to give a four star review. The biggest downer was when I went to the Gents which was very tired and not clean. Prices are generally reasonable, but the excellent salmon was a bit steep at £14.

The hotel has an excellent location but seriously disappoints. Beautiful period building with a depressing and cheaply furnished interior. Room was well-heated, but gloomy and very basic. Duvet and pillows very poor. Nasty cheap carpets throughout the room and whole hotel. Reception not manned after 8pm. Atmosphere was soulless, dismal and depressing. Everything appears done on the cheap, (except, maybe, its restaurant, which appears to be promoted for non-residents). I did not dine, so cannot comment on the restaurant food. Service at breakfast was almost non existent. Tables not laid. Very limited cold selection. Hot breakfast food was OK. Sadly, I regretted having booked and paid for a second night at this hotel. What a shame for such a nice town and iconic location.

Restaurant decor was nice and modern, service was OK. We both had the tasting menu option. The majority of the courses were nice, but I'm afraid to say that the dessert was a letdown. The panna cotta was overset, and the chocolate dessert was not put on the plate well and looked a bit of a mess. When the bill was paid, I had to find my own coat.

Staff are extremely friendly and always up for a great laugh. Portion sizes are very large, great value for money. Wide range of drinks to suit either a quiet night out or even a messy one.
