This place has now, rather usurpingly, closed. Its advertised online now. The previous owners did an amazing roast however it got taken over by people who ruined the roast by trying to cut corners. No mention anywhere of the visit by The Beatles here in the early 60s either. A missed opportunity

Great experience at this extremely friendly village pub. Fresh pleasant decor. Landlady, Landlord & staff all very welcoming and will stop to chat. Varied menu of decently cooked food served by charming staff. Delicious home cooked pie with very tender steak filling. Tasty plaice with leeks and broccoli. Would recommend. Dog friendly.

Called in on a Wednesday lunchtime as we passed by from Bristol airport on our onwards journey to family. Spotlessly clean, I asked for mayo, the squeezey bottle lid and bottle were spotlessly clean, as was the vinegar lid and bottle, toilets clean and tidy. All staff friendly, nothing was too much trouble - I asked for hot water to top up my pot of tea. We had chicken wraps and skinny fries, chicken was nice and juicy, good value for money. We would definitely go back if we were ever in the area again.

We went in today for a Sunday lunch, we arrived quite early but we were taken straight to our table and a drinks order taken, however we were then left without any menus and had to ask for them so we could decide on our order. We then had to get the attention of the staff members to take our order. Once the food came out the roast beef was lovely (albeit a bit over done for my liking, but I understand it's hard to please everyone) the thing that really let it down though was the gravy, it was like water and really lacked flavour. I had booked here as the reviews were all great, but I was a bit disappointed purely by the gravy and the service. But I was impressed that most dishes on the menu were homemade, including the puddings. I'm not sure we would return for a Sunday roast, but I would probably go for meals off the main menu instead.

Popped in with friends for lunch. Very limited menu for veggies. Opted for the Mac & Cheese… bad move! Tasted like some sort of canned/ packet plasticky stuff tipped in a bowl then layered with thick cheese and grilled. Pretty unappetising. Such a shame as lovely location. But very cheaply produced food.

Great location but unfriendly staff who made us feel very unwelcome. Ordering a drink felt awkward and like too much trouble for the gentleman behind the bar. We visited last year with some friends and although the food was nice, we all noticed the same unfriendly atmosphere. It’s such a shame as it’s a wonderful location. Definitely wouldn’t recommend and will certainly not return.

Superb meal, excellent value and such friendly and efficient service. The mushroom stroganoff was yummy - a generous portion which I didn't think I'd manage - but I did! We'll definitely be back when we're next in Lyme. The pub is in such a delightful setting with excellent outside space as well and the accommodation appeared to be a very high standard.

This used to be one of my favourite pubs but unfortunately I feel like it’s a totally different pub now. The energy wasn’t friendly when we walked in, it felt cold and stale. The lady behind the bar made me feel very unwelcome for bringing my toddler with me (it was 1pm on a Monday). The lady behind the bar seemed really on edge when my toddler was looking curiously at their trophy collection which they had left on a shelf half a metre from the ground, so very inviting for most children to look at being at such a child friendly and also accessible height. (I suggest moving it to a higher shelf if you don’t wish children or even animals to touch/look at them). The lady behind the bar impatiently rushed me and my partner into ordering our drinks and seemed extremely fed up when my partner asked to try one of the ciders. It felt like doing her job was a massive chore for her everything was a hassle and she’d much rather be some where else. We ended up drinking our drink quickly and leaving as we simply just didn’t want to be there after such a unfriendly and uncomfortable experience. We ended up going to the pub up the road called the Fox & Hounds which was so so lovely. The staff were so friendly warm and welcoming we sat talking to them for hours and our little one explored and played with the vintage cars they had in the garden. We also had some delicious food there which I rate highly. Such a shame I can’t say the same for the bell on the common.
