First time having a carvery at the Lyneham inn, great service , found the food very nice and great value for money .Carrots were very tasty. The green beans and Yorkshire pud could have been warmer however we would definitely go again at some point.

Although the small roast was good value for money basically the same price as a panini in some places think that there are two Chefs here. One good one not so good as the first time we came the meal was infinitely better. The second time the plates were cold so that anything that was put on it became lukewarm and that obviously is why other reviewers allude to the fact of cold meat and veg (and we came after the carvery just started to be served) so it wasn't a time factor. The cauliflower too was way undercooked and hard to get onto the plate which wasn't a problem first time around. Think the good Chef should be giving the other one a few tips.

The Lyneham used to serve a fantastic carvery, but this was by far the worst I’ve ever had. The vegetables were lukewarm and very undercooked, and sweetcorn with a roast dinner? Really? The parsnips were also undercooked, and the potatoes tasted like they were a day old. The gravy, which used to be excellent, is no longer the same – it tasted like they just used gravy granules. Will not be returning

Carvery was probably the worst I have ever had. Meat was just okay, everything else was a zero. Veg and potato's were luke warm. No swede! Who has sweetcorn with roast! Cauliflower cheese was rock hard snd was badically hard cauliflower with a mushy sauce which was kind of like a stodgy milky mash, didn't even taste cheesy. Some ropey looking carrots. Looked like frozen veg gone wrong. It was how I imagined a carvery to look in the 80's. Cobwebs and dirt around windows, if they don't clean that what else don't they clean. Would not return.

Man on carvery was very rude to me unnecessarily judgemental and loud when i made the request of having meat on a separate plate not because i’m fussy for the pure reason that i don’t like the meat on offer but i did not want to waste money and so wanted a spare plate of meat for my family to share, continued to call me a fusspot and embarrass me even after explaining that it’s not the case never the less it shouldn’t be a issue the customer is always right! food was okay not bad but definitely not something i really enjoyed, i have been coming here for years and the food and service has gone drastically down hill! meetings are definitely needed as this is not the way to run a hospitality business. - thursday 25th july 2024 as didn’t get his name

We came for a carvery today. Food was average, meat sliced very thinly, veg ok but not the best. Parsnips were nice. staff not very helpful. I asked if they had a dessert menu and he said “its on the bar”. It would have been nice if they got it for me. We were sat in the conservatory which was very hot. When we asked if we could sit in the other part of the restaurant they said no because they were fully booked but the place was almost empty. Setting very dated. Hasn’t changed since i last went 15 years ago. There are better places for a carvery nowadays

This always had a really nice roast but not this time. I don't know what has happened, if they have a new owner or something, but omg. The meat was overcooked, dry and tasteless, the veg was not fresh as usual but some frozen and re heated tasteless rubbish from the cash and carry? The gravy was always really nice here but now its basically Bisto gravy granules and is revolting. I couldn't finish the meal it was that bad. The Yorkshire puddings are also just some catering quality ones, frozen and heated up in the oven and served cold, greasy and floppy. Its like they have tried to cut corners as they think they will make more money but that is the wrong way to run a carvery. I dont know what they are playing at but they have lost a customer.

We went for Sunday lunch and were thrilled that they could book a party of 5 in at reasonably short notice (we had only booked the day before - though there weren’t many time slots left available). The pub was fairly full and we had a table in the conservatory, which felt like it could do with a bit of a face lift especially because this pub has been going for quite a number of years. A carvery was on offer and we went up in turn to get our dinners. This is where the rating drops to 3, it was just all overcooked. I personally don’t like rock hard vegetables, but these were the opposite extreme. For anyone who enjoys really soft veg and meat that almost crumbles this place is perfect for you and there must be lots of you because the turnover of people there was nonstop, but it’s not for me or any of the others in the group I was with. We can’t fault the staff as they were very pleasant and cleared tables very efficiently.

I'm sorry to the chefs and staff, but this is the worst roast I've ever had in my life. The gluten free gravy was like brown, tasteless, lukewarm water. The veg was so waterlogged that it was complete mush, and tasted of absolutely nothing. The meat was fine and parsnips and roast potatoes were okay, but nothing special, and it was ruined by the awful watery gravy. I had a coke zero, and I've no idea how you get a soft drink so wrong but it was completely flat. I could half forgive it if the carvery was cheap, but two carveries, a diet coke and a pint came to £38, so it's fairly expensive as well. Won't be coming back!

I don't like giving bad reviews, but I have to say that this was a pretty poor meal, even though it is modestly priced. The food and the welcome in this lovely country pub gets better with each visit. Julie wasn’t here but the fort was held admirably. As usual the varied choice of meat and veg, and some Atlantic Pale Ale made for a great carvery meal. Our little grandson was looked after with his own bowl of meat and veg which he made a valiant attempt at clearing. The mulled wine was also a great addition. We hope to visit again before Christmas.

It just fell apart, was sooo tasty and had no fat which was just perfect. The veg was all very nicely cooked and presented. The cabbage was very finely shredded which is the best way in my opinion. The gravy was nice and thick and tasty. Roast potatoes were nicely fluffy and the staff were very welcoming and friendly which is always a plus. The standard carvery is two thin and really small slices of whatever meat you choose, served on a really small plate, so you think you're getting more than you are because a little takes up a lot of room on your plate (a trick some pubs/restaurants use to maximise their profit by giving you less food). You end up full, because you eat more of the potatoes and vegetables, so you think you've got a good deal when you really haven't. And they make more money, because potatoes and vegetables are far less expensive. I haven't tried any of their other meals, but I'm assuming they use the same plates, so the portions are equally small and the meat to potato/veg ratio equally disappointing.Meat and roast potatoes are nice, but veg is tasteless and the cauliflower cheese and parsnips the worst I've ever tasted. Gravy is tasteless and the consistency of porridge. Mulled wine is lukewarm. Most of the staff are nice, but this hardly makes up for the dishonest tactics used on the carvery or the poor quality of some of the food, because you don't go there to hang out with the staff.

Carvery was nice but charged me £4.10 for a class of orange juice which I believe is an extorniate price for a soft drink on tap.

Reasonably priced carvery. All very fresh. Rather stingy amount of meat but otherwise very tasty. Quick service arrived just after they opened.

While visiting friends in the local area, we popped along to the Lyneham Inn for a carvery at lunchtime. The price of the meal in the cheapest in the area, with normally three meats on offer with half a dozen choices of vegetables.

Turned up having been unable to book a table due to ridiculous rule of them not taking telephone reservations and saying they WILL find a table in so called spacious restaurant, ha!!. Already full by noon and nowhere to even sit and wait for a table in so called spacious restaurant or bar area for at least 30minutes. Decided to vote with our feet understandibly. What kind of restaurant doesn't take bookings but offers tables regardless anyway!!. Don't bother wasting petrol/time.

Last year we discovered the unattended converted horse box near Devonport Park but in January we found the established shop/cafe in Albert Road. Very friendly and good selection of food all home baked. We think round the back of this cafe.

Car park was rammed with loads of work vans parked carelessly throughout the carpark, struggled to find a place to park. Once inside, the restaurant was full, probably due to everyone having a 40% discount voucher. Took 10mins for someone to take our drinks order and another 10mins for them to arrive. Food order finally taken and proceeded to take 55 mins for 2 steaks and a plate of ribs to arrive, and this was after we had chased and asked to speak to someone in charge. Ribs were cold and husband refused to have a new meal plated due to time waited. We were there 2 hrs and only 2 of us ended up having 1 medicore course. He did get a free beer, and management finally came and spoke to us. Apparently they don't have any control of their booking system and can't turn it off, so they have to accept bookings even though they know they can't cope with it. Husbands birthday meal was ruined. Felt for staff who seem to not have any local control over the restaurants booking system but we were told they were still taking in walks in. We won't return for a long time, unfortunately, even though it is very local to us

Baked sea bass, little dry from the baking and probably more cream in the sauce than really needed.
