Toby Carvery in Plymouth

This was my first visit to Toby Carvery and it didn't disappoint. Food was great (I went back for another helping of stuffing and potatoes) The stand out was Kelley, who was looking after our table. She was ever so helpful, and a wonderful, friendly server. The world needs more Kelleys.

The staff with the exception of the chef and the female that took our payment were incredibly rude and unenthusiastic. I totally understand it’s busy, but a smile wouldn’t have gone a miss. Totally unorganised. Food was okay, gravy was a little thin but potatoes were grand.

Positive The friendly lady on bar who was working her butt off and was very polite The roast potatoes were hot Negative Staff not very welcoming and considering never been before no guidance. When asked chef if crackling as had pork she said "no" . She wasn't welcoming. Yet customer behind she knew and was polite to. No atmosphere luke warm mediocre carvery, mushy parsnips and wafer thin slices of meat. Watery pureed mash potato with no flavour. I guess it's cheap and you get what you pay for. It's not for me and went away disappointed

Just visited again today with our 50% off voucher. Carvery was excellent as usual and Paige our waitress was so polite and helpful, we shall return very soon.

The carvery here is lovely. Roast potatoes done in beef dripping nom nom. Much better than lord Louis at plympton!

Gravy potatoes were like hard as backed !!

Meat was great veg was tasteless as was the stuffing harvester gravy had no taste and was more like water than gravy also there was no salt on tables .Staff were very polite and friendly atmosphere.if the food had been hotter then a five star around would have been given.

Eat here very often. Couple of times a week. Can’t fault it for the price. Would rather this than paying over the odds for burger and chips.

Parking very good! Food is immaculate, staff always so friendly. My family and I love to go every few months and we have amazing service and a wonderful experience.

Can't leave this gaff without sending myself into a food coma! Lovely establishment, the perfect place to get all the mandem together and groan over a vast amount of scran. Ate myself into a haze twice this week, one time with the breakfast which is all you can eat and the other with the carvery which is also all you can eat, struggled to get out of the door afterwards. Lovely lad names James carved us up a slab of meaty goodness, and Morgans spuds where fantastic, definitely coming back for a Sunday lunch x

Booked table but had to wait for 30 minutes.

Came here with my son for a carvery .the lady who greets you to show you your seats was lovely and very helpful. Shocking that only two disabled parking spaces. We had the carvery the Yorkshire pudding was greasy .and the beef again tough and chewy. The vegetarian gravy was gluten free but not at all nice was quite lumpy .they do have a disabled toilet but not well signed and you got to go past the bar area and gaming machine. So difficult with crutches. If you had a walker or wheelchair it be nr impossible to get to then to find out you got to have a radar key .so then you have to make your way back past everything to get to the bar

Sent an offer by email 1/2 price mains for family up to 6 people.Turned up to find out not honered due to staff shortages and asked to come back at 5 pm and situation may have changed. Please don't offer then do not honor

Nice food nice people. Love it there been again. No change is still the best place to go for a carvery.

Nice place for a roast and a pint. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Desserts are lovely as well. Parking isn't the biggest. If you are planning to go during the weekend, I recommend booking a table.

Just had Christmas Dinner, it’s not posh which is why we loved it. Everything was so good, the service, the food and the atmosphere.

Booked the festive menu for 8 of us which we have done for a few years now and not been dissapointed. This year left a lot to be desired. It felt like one of those restaurants run by Karen's. The person carving the meat really didn't want to be there, not a pleasant person. We waited a long time for someone to come over after our main meal to order deserts. We had to go up to the bar in the end and ask. Service not very attentive, the original person that served us had disappeared and we had a few different ones. We had been at the table for over 2 and a half hours, ready to leave just need the bill, again we had to hunt someone down to be told I'm busy you'll have to wait. Eventually get the bill and it's wrong nearly over charged by £40. If it was just me I probably wouldn't have complained but when I can see disappointment in my parents and grandparents had to say something. Up your game toby. Also where were the Christmas crackers?

Ordered a pint off Stella drank half off it then she came over and asked me for id considering I didn’t have it she shouldn’t off served me anyway then produced to take my half drank pint away from me absolutely awful service

Didn’t have a room but thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas menu dinner and dessert. Great service, fresh food and delicious too.

A great festive experience for our work Christmas meal. Food was lovely, well cooked & fresh. The special Christmas choices arrived quickly so everyone could eat together. Dan was very attentive & friendly, helping with dietary requirements & making sure we had all we needed. Dave & Brad also helped make our experience welcoming & enjoyable. Very pleased we chose Toby for the start of our Christmas celebrations.

Went for a carvery had 2 meats an the lady gave us minimal meat, she then pillied up her plate for her lunch break right in front of us. Use toby quite often in exeter with no issues but unfortunately this restaurant let us down a little as we felt we wasn't really getting our moneys worth

We love Toby carvery Plymouth. We visit almost every week and have done for many years. Never once have we had cause to complain. The meat is beautifully cooked and the vegetables are plentiful . We have all our family events there . I very highly recommend a visit ...you will not be disappointed.

Went there for festive carvery meal today with Plymouth stroke group. The staff couldn't be more helpful, the starters, carvery, and deserts where all very good. Thankyou to all staff for a stressful lunch.

Delicious carvery lunch today, and great service.

You could improve on booking in the evening. I couldn't have food as I only eat certain things and everything was ran out before I got to line up. I was very disappointed and had nothing to eat that night as it totally spoilt my night and put me off. Make sure you have enough food to cater your bookings.

The mold over the windows was terrible walls soaking wet seriously need to ventilate the building also I slipped in the toilet lucky for them I stopped myself from falling the floor was soaking wet had to inform a member of staff there were no wet floor signs out won't be going back put it that way

Your staff are such a credit to Toby Carvery. Our friends hadn’t visited Toby Carvery before. One of them had food allergies and was helped make the right food choices. Our food was delicious even though the Turkey was unavailable at the time we ate - and we were bowled over by the kindness shown and the outcome on the bill which we didn’t ask for or expect. We will definitely be back. The service we received was impeccable - over and above - and so appreciated.

Our food was just luke warm. Inside roast potatos was cold. Sliced potatos was hard & no colour to them. Our pal had to ask chef to warm her meal up in microwave. Disapointed seeing it was for a pals birthday. Complained to waitress but nothing was done.

What is great is your serving staff, what is wrong is your cooking staff. 2 weeks in a row now the food has been poor. Always waiting for dishes to be replenished, only ever seeing the carver as everyone else is too busy with takeaway delivery orders. The meat portions have got to a reduced and ridiculous level. Unfortunately we won’t be returning for a while

We came for a family celebratory meal, but were disappointed. We were told we were too late for the beef, so had less choice of meat . One of our party had salmon en croute, but the pastry was burnt inside. The sprouts tasted like frozen sprouts which I'm not keen on, I love fresh sprouts and that's what I expected. The waitress who brought our tea and coffee had a casual attitude. Also I noticed dropped vegetables on floor by the serving area, and under some of the tables . All in all, not a pleasant experience.

Grubby restaurant, litter on floor. Chef at carvery casual in speech and actions. No beef available, told 'you've got what's left'; poorly presented vegetables; asked for potatoes to be refilled, told that had started a fight in the kitchen; bowls of condiments empty. First waitress was pleasant but disappeared after told of our concerns. Second waitress offhand and clearly wanted us gone. Will not return.

AWFUL… I took my family who were visiting from New Zealand on their last day here as a “treat” what a mistake! The greeting was nowhere to be seen, there were 8 of us, we sat in the bar as they couldn’t fit us in the restaurant. That’s fine, but the food was not! The plates. They were dirty, greasy and food residue was still on them, we went through at least 10 before we found an acceptable one, they also need replacing, old, crazed just horrible! Cutlery far from clean! The food was badly cooked, cheap and just unappetising. The fried eggs looked just awful, some were undercooked, some over cooked, cheap sausages, flacid was the word that sprung to mind, bacon, stuck together and overcooked all of it was obviously picked for its cheapness including fried potatoes, hash browns, beans and tomatoes and bullet like tiny mushrooms. It was a miserable experience. I apologised to my relatives. Said it had declined drastically since the last time we ate there. The building and decor also looked tired, for want of a better word! We won’t go again. I wouldn’t bother going if I were you.

Great value cooked breakfast. I got to choose the best crispy bacon! Would be great if they had continental options but for cooked breakfasts it was fab.

Me and my friends always enjoy a Toby carvery, we didnt have a booking but Ellie was quick to find us a table. Shane was my server today and he was excellent and very attentive to our needs. Overall we had a very welcoming and enjoyable experience. Food was amazing as always

Had a lovely carvery here with my partner today. Even though it was busy, the food was still hot and coming out fresh and our waiter Kye was so full of positivity and energy, always making sure we were okay and didn’t need anything. 10/10

We've been here on a few occasions several years ago and was really happy but tonight we ordered a takeaway and I stood for well over an hour past the collection time. During this time I saw between 10 and 15 delivery drivers (just eat etc) and well over 20 delivery orders leave. Many just popping in and waiting a few mins before leaving again. I asked twice where the order was and was told they were busy and the chef continued bringing out delivery orders. When ours eventually came, half of it was missing and I had to return for the missing bag. No apology. Many people waiting 30 mins for their pre booked tables. All in all when we eventually got the order it was 6pm (445pm collection time). For over £50 I don't think we'll bother next time

New girl is horrendous. She must of forgot there was tables around the corner because multiple tables were left for 45 minutes for bills or desserts. Absolutely embarrassing

Your staff were brilliant, friendly and helpful. Access in a wheelchair is difficult. Your planters need weeding etc. turkey was excellent. Beef fatty and grizzly. Some vegetables missing. Cauliflower Luke warm. Roast potatoes superb.

Came for a birthday carvery, choice of meats is fab, and selection of veg on offer is great too. Not seen dumplings on a carvery before, but these were an additional tasty choice. We brought our own cake and it was no problem for the staff to keep this until we needed it, even lit the candles. All in all highly recommend.

Very chaotic. No glasses so had to wait ages for our drinks. They also ran out of cutlery so people had their roasts with nothing to eat it with. Pepsi machine was out of syrup. Not the best visit. We spent over £100. Won’t be back.

Only issue we had is we where a party of 9 and we had too sit of seperate tables which wasnt ideal. We booked plenty a few weeks in advance so feel plenty of notice was given too be able too accomdate us all. Lady on the front was a little bit moody and shitty towards us when we tried too explain that we was a party of 9
