Blooming rubbish wait times crazy and barely any options of meat and veg had been sat under lights so long it was nasty and dry normally really good heard staff member say they know its busy at this time but manager refuses to staff properly

The food was cold unfortunately and slightly dry which was a bit disappointing, but there was some very enthusiastic customer service from Lauren who was extremely friendly and attentive

I'm not normally one to comment but I came here with my partner a few weeks back now . And we was sat outside on the table for a few drinks on are way past.. when we sat down we kept hearing loud banging so we was looking around wondering where it was coming from. It was coming from the room above the toby there where 3 girls in there 20s making hand gestures towards my partner that were very inappropriate the main one was a blond girl with false nails on she kept trying to hide everytime we looked up I was really discussed my such behaviour where you come to relax and people are makimg gesture towards ur man like that 3 girls infact won't be coming back !!!!

Quite possibly the worst roast dinner I’ve ever had. Lots of it was cold. Cauliflower cheese had a pitiful about of sauce and the macaroni cheese had none! Why so sparse on the bloody cheese sauce! Yorkshires were undercooked meat was fatty and the veg was bland. I know you get what you pay for but bloody hell. Cutlery was dirty table was filthy and there was more food on the floor than there was on the menu! Staff weren’t that arsed either to be honest they werent rude but were all just going through the motions had to go find them to get sevice most of the time but there was a sign saying they were understaffed so that’s understandable. Only good bit was the deserts won’t be going back again unless ice cream vans go on strike. Sort it out Toby carvery!

Had a breakfast here as we do each time we are in plymouth about 6 times a year. Breakfast was great, not had yorky pud with my breakfast before, and still haven't but I intend to do so next time, staff are great friendly people, yep love it here .

As you would expect, it's the same as any other Toby so if you like one, you'll like them all. That being said, the Yorkshire puddings are always consistently rubbish as expected!

Staff crap… got shoved at a crap table in a cold draft, asked to move got told no (empty table next to us) so we moved to that ourselves. Next group turned up complained about table got moved straight away and this continued throughout our meal.. turned out the staff knew the other people and they received first class service we got nothing. The waitress huffed when we asked to claim our money off voucher and then again when we asked to collect our stamps, snatching our phones from our hands. The food was dry like it had been sat there for ages, I asked for fresh stuffing that had just been brought out and had attitude given to me for that. The mint sauce had been so watered down with vinegar it was like pouring half a bottle of vinegar onto my dinner… one of the worst toby carvery experiences I have had!!!

If your looking for a cheap dining experience, this is it but there is a twist! you get more then what you pay for 😱 endless veg? Bottomless softdrinks? Yes please. The meat was amazing the veg was a hot and fresh just as i was being served. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the chefs are attentive. A roast is british food at its finest and toby carvery nails it!

Went on Saturday 26th April at 4.30pm Accommodating and friendly staff. Expecially the chef who was older with tattoos, he really cheered my day up and is the reason I wanted to make my first ever review as he made such a impact that day :)

As always, an enjoyable visit to Toby, Roborough, Plymouth today. (29th April). Although arriving late in the afternoon, all foods were still hot, and meats tender. Plenty of variety in vegetables, too. Thanks to Kelley for great service.

There was hardly any staff on at peak times. 2 o'clock on a Sunday. The place looked like an absolute bomb site. Dirty glasses and crockery everywhere. They struggled to find clean glasses for a drink. I took around 20 glasses back to the bar myself as i could see they were struggling. I asked to order the carvery at the bar and was refused initially because they said they had no clean cutlery. When we finally got to the carvery, the lamb was all but gone but they tried to serve the grey streaky ligament part of the meat and got really aggy when we asked to have that taken off the plate. Waited on potatoes and the veg bowls were empty with noone replacing them, all condiments were empty. There was absolutely no oversight at all. Been coming to this place for years but this has put me off returning. Get more staff.

First plate that came out, stone cold spuds. Asked the bar maid to clarify, even she said. Wow yeah. They’re cold. Miserable looking young lad chef that walked out gave us a big load of side eye as he gurned his way past the table. Second plate that came out, warm spuds but a wrap swimming in oil. At that point, I didn't touch it. When it came to paying. I showed the waitress the oil. She agreed it was very oily, but then charged me full price. I asked if that included the plate of oil. She replied, shall i take it off?? I replied yes. Im not paying for that. We promised ourselves we wouldn't step foot in this particular Toby again, but thought wed try it again as its on the way to the moors. Wish we hadn’t. And that really is the last time. Home of the roast?? No. This home of the worst roast

There was little or no meat in the carvery a few tired vegetables. You could eat with Yorkshire puddings and gravy but that is hardly a carvery dinner. Most tables are pre booked so hard to see how they could have miscalculated. I waited an hour situation had not improved. Toby can be great clearly not the case here

My son and his family decided to take my son's Uncle, who came all the way from America for a visit, to the Plymouth Toby carvery this evening, Friday the 25th April. Plymouth Toby carvery is normally their favourite place to go, but tonight they couldn't enjoy their meal at all, because the staff were trying to hurry them along, coming to the table constantly, saying, have you finished with this and that, making their meal and time there not very nice at all. They couldn't relax and enjoy their meal or enjoy spending time with their uncle. They are disappointed and say it was a horrible experience, with pushy staff.

Disappointed to say I cannot find anything positive to say about tonight’s experience, while I appreciate it was extremely busy, a 40 minute plus queue to get a carvery was extreme. Total lack of replenishment of food, and the fact that they were still accepting Uber Eats orders while clearly being unable to cope with the volume of people waiting. Food was of very poor quality, I could only describe it as tasteless. Went back to the table to find all the napkins had been removed and cutlery left on the table, that is not hygienic at all. We also had our refillable glass removed despite my drink and a coat left at the table while we queued for food. Apart from one lady the staff were miserable and had very little interest in what was going on around them.

On the way back home and stopped off as we were hungry. Table was ok and waitress took our drinks order. The carvery was well limited 4 meats asked for beef and gammon well was given a slice of each unfortunately the beef was more sinews and not that edible. Gammon was nice. Veg was more Potatoes than anyone could eat. Carrots peas cauliflower cheese. I know you could pile your plate to over flowing if you wished. If I had more meat I would have been happier. For the price it was ok. Nothing to write home about.

The carvery is always a welcome treat from here.

Not a hotel it's an awful restaurant. Unfriendly carvery chef. Despite going extra large very little meat. Veg so over cooked it disintegrated. Very very poor 😢

Was served by a lovely lady called Kelley . It was a particularly busy day and nothing was too much trouble for her to do for us. She was really kind and friendly. Would definitely come back again just to see her xx

Went for a carvery breakfast, plenty to choose from. We enjoyed the food! Only comment is that it could have been warmer however no complaints.

The food was very nice (apart from the meat which was slightly cold and Yorkshire puddings were like a dust when cut) however the rest of the sides was delicious and the gravy I must say tho that the staff wasn’t amazing and I witnessed 2 members of staff having an argument with swearing which wasn’t very professional there was also a lot of confusion with the desserts nobody new which table they were for …. I will visit again but I hope that the staff aren’t arguing and the meat isn’t cold

Great service from staff member Lauren complete with lovely food, the meats are lovely as well as the vegetables and the cookie dough Sunday was a really nice desert to end with.

Went there today as our grandson wanted a carvery, first time for a long time, and it will a long time before I return. Very busy, long queue at the counter, where a lady was doing the carving, but she had to keep disappearing to restock with other items, which then meant the queue was getting longer. After I got the meat it was now time for the veg, potatoes looked unappetising, black round the edges, carrots and french beans needed restocking, I asked the carver if this was going to happen and was told they were on there way, I got fed up with waiting while my food was getting colder. So at last I sat down to eat. None of it was piping hot, most was somewhere between warm and hot, potatoes were like cutting through spongy cardboard, home of the roast, I don't think so. Overall very disappointing,

Not as good a standard as usual, maybe because it was towards the end of the breakfast session - potentially sat under the hot lights too long and had dried out. Black pudding was very chewy. Fried eggs were literally swimming in oil, tasted ok but so much oil made my partner feel sick after consuming. Coffee was good but at £3 each is expensive, even for refillable. Still better than beefeater though!

Just had a delicious meal at Toby Carvery. Amber was absolutely lovely, helpful and really welcomed me and my family.

Ate here sunday last week, experience was brilliant! Waitress Elise was amazing and took care of me and my fiancée the whole evening, will be coming back because of her as well as the food; in which the food was astounding and the overall environment was welcoming.

Alex is a fantastic bar man always happy and having a laugh always remembers our drinks order absolutely fantastic

Having never eaten at the Toby Carvery before and advertised as the home of the roast, Arrived at approximately 1pm. I'm not sure if the food was left over from the night before. I had pork and turkey both were very dry, my companion had the beef and saud it was chewy. The potatoes were ok and if you like carrots,peas and onions your fine as no other vegetables were out. All ok the food was Luke warm the gravy was the only thing hot. I didn't complain as I was treating my companion. All in all with the cost of the carvery and drinks it was a expensive mistake. I am on a pension.

Had a very friendly and helpful staff member named Lauren. She made our experience the best it could be. Great praise for Lauren is needed.

First time taking my grandchildren, who are in their teens, to this Toby Carvery. What an awful disaster!! Firstly had to wait at least 10mins to be attended at the entrance while a queue formed behind us. At that point wished we had turned to leave, but waited. As for the meal, where do I begin? Two trays of roast potatoes each with 5 roast in them, no sign of fresher ones being brought out. Very poor selection of veg. We elected for turkey as the only piece of gammon left to choose from was the size of a small tea plate, again no sign of fresh gammon coming out. Our turkey was luke warm and by the time we sat down, it was cold. Altogether I looked at our three plates and wondered why I had paid over £30 for this. My granddaughter left turkey all together, grandson ploughed on with his, but only because I had paid so much money. I myself ate mine only because I had so little to choose from on my plate! I have used Toby carvery's a lot and have always been pleased, but this was awful!!! We had 150 mile journey in font of us so obviously wanted a full stomach, if I could give 0 stars I would. I would loved to have complained, but unfortunately did not want to embarrass mu grandchildren, they asked me not too, but felt I had to right this review. Dreadful!!!

Went for a carvery hoping for a nice roast. Was the worst roast we’ve ever had. Tiny portions of meat, even on a king size just slithers of it. Roast potatoes were dry and the veg was so poor. Swede was lumpy, cabbage dried right out and as for the cauliflower it wasn’t even cooked and was so hard. The man carving looked like he just didn’t want to be there. Had a bit of an attitude when asked if there was more pork. He was serving and dropped the meat on the counter and proceeded to still put it on the plate. He wiped a plate with a dirty towel attached to him and when asked about the cauliflower said that’s how it’s always cooked. Gravy was also a bowl of water. We did complain and the manager said we didn’t have to pay and also gave us a gift card to visit again which was nice. The other staff were faultless. I just think the kitchen staff need to up their game on the cooking front and the man serving, well we thought he had had a long busy day, when in fact had just started his shift. It was a case of serve quick to move people on with no control on portion sizes of meat. My children would eat more than that.

Sorry to say that this was probably one of the worst meals I’ve ever paid for and both me and my husband left the majority of the meal. The Yorkshire pudding wrap was pure stodge and so heavy. The beef on the ciabatta was so tough and full of fat that it was impossibly to take a clean bite. The accompanying roast potatoes were cold and tasteless. The surroundings were also off putting as lots of empty tables with plates of leftovers and glasses that hadn’t been cleared. The staff were friendly enough and no complaints directed at them.

Food is far superior to the Lord Louis at Plympton, and hotter too! Lovely staff, never had a bad meal. it is one of my regular treats now!

This was my first visit to Toby Carvery and it didn't disappoint. Food was great (I went back for another helping of stuffing and potatoes) The stand out was Kelley, who was looking after our table. She was ever so helpful, and a wonderful, friendly server. The world needs more Kelleys.

The staff with the exception of the chef and the female that took our payment were incredibly rude and unenthusiastic. I totally understand it’s busy, but a smile wouldn’t have gone a miss. Totally unorganised. Food was okay, gravy was a little thin but potatoes were grand.

Positive The friendly lady on bar who was working her butt off and was very polite The roast potatoes were hot Negative Staff not very welcoming and considering never been before no guidance. When asked chef if crackling as had pork she said "no" . She wasn't welcoming. Yet customer behind she knew and was polite to. No atmosphere luke warm mediocre carvery, mushy parsnips and wafer thin slices of meat. Watery pureed mash potato with no flavour. I guess it's cheap and you get what you pay for. It's not for me and went away disappointed

The carvery here is lovely. Roast potatoes done in beef dripping nom nom. Much better than lord Louis at plympton!

Gravy potatoes were like hard as backed !!

Meat was great veg was tasteless as was the stuffing harvester gravy had no taste and was more like water than gravy also there was no salt on tables .Staff were very polite and friendly atmosphere.if the food had been hotter then a five star around would have been given.

Parking very good! Food is immaculate, staff always so friendly. My family and I love to go every few months and we have amazing service and a wonderful experience.

Can't leave this gaff without sending myself into a food coma! Lovely establishment, the perfect place to get all the mandem together and groan over a vast amount of scran. Ate myself into a haze twice this week, one time with the breakfast which is all you can eat and the other with the carvery which is also all you can eat, struggled to get out of the door afterwards. Lovely lad names James carved us up a slab of meaty goodness, and Morgans spuds where fantastic, definitely coming back for a Sunday lunch x

Booked table but had to wait for 30 minutes.

Came here with my son for a carvery .the lady who greets you to show you your seats was lovely and very helpful. Shocking that only two disabled parking spaces. We had the carvery the Yorkshire pudding was greasy .and the beef again tough and chewy. The vegetarian gravy was gluten free but not at all nice was quite lumpy .they do have a disabled toilet but not well signed and you got to go past the bar area and gaming machine. So difficult with crutches. If you had a walker or wheelchair it be nr impossible to get to then to find out you got to have a radar key .so then you have to make your way back past everything to get to the bar

Sent an offer by email 1/2 price mains for family up to 6 people.Turned up to find out not honered due to staff shortages and asked to come back at 5 pm and situation may have changed. Please don't offer then do not honor

Nice food nice people. Love it there been again. No change is still the best place to go for a carvery.

Nice place for a roast and a pint. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Desserts are lovely as well. Parking isn't the biggest. If you are planning to go during the weekend, I recommend booking a table.

Just had Christmas Dinner, it’s not posh which is why we loved it. Everything was so good, the service, the food and the atmosphere.

Booked the festive menu for 8 of us which we have done for a few years now and not been dissapointed. This year left a lot to be desired. It felt like one of those restaurants run by Karen's. The person carving the meat really didn't want to be there, not a pleasant person. We waited a long time for someone to come over after our main meal to order deserts. We had to go up to the bar in the end and ask. Service not very attentive, the original person that served us had disappeared and we had a few different ones. We had been at the table for over 2 and a half hours, ready to leave just need the bill, again we had to hunt someone down to be told I'm busy you'll have to wait. Eventually get the bill and it's wrong nearly over charged by £40. If it was just me I probably wouldn't have complained but when I can see disappointment in my parents and grandparents had to say something. Up your game toby. Also where were the Christmas crackers?

Ordered a pint off Stella drank half off it then she came over and asked me for id considering I didn’t have it she shouldn’t off served me anyway then produced to take my half drank pint away from me absolutely awful service
