Four of us went for Sunday Lunch after a Sunday Morning walk. The drinks were very good, (Can't say that about a lot of pubs who only sell cheap unheard of Lager, I had Peroni). The food was excellent (we all had the beef) and the dishes of veg were perfectly cooked. The gravy was plentiful and tasty. Service was first class and when the bill came it was less than expected. We will definitely be heading back there in the near future.

We stumbled across this gem of a pub while camping in the area. It’s off the beaten track in a small village. We were greeted by a cheerful guy behind the bar, he was helpful and made us feel very welcome, the young lady who served us was also lovely, she ensured we had all we wanted and checked on us a couple of times. The food is out of this world! Excellent pub grub with a few twists, I had the “Mother Clucker” and my wife had the best fish and chips she’s ever had! The kids loved their menu, it’s quite cleverly written, offers loads of options including vegetarian and healthy choices as well as the usuals. A vegan friend was pleasantly surprised with the choice, no vegan burgers in sight!! she settled on the Veganic wrap, which she loved! Outside there is a great kids play area which kept the kids entertained for a good while, dogs are welcome in the pub and on the patio, but not in the play area, which is a great idea, we know the the kids are able to run around without liking out for poo! If you are looking for a chilled family/ dog friendly pub with great food and fabulous staff, then this is the place to visit!

What a little gem of a place hidden the beautiful chew valley near the iconic waldegrave estate. The pub has so much character, old, well kept loads of history and from a snug chair to a bar stool there is an area for everyone. We had Sunday lunch and wow it didn’t disappoint! Loads of food and all homemade and the service was fab. If you can leave enough room for a desert… they are amazing! The grandchildren played in the garden which has a large slide and climbing area. It was great as there are no dogs allowed in the garden area so we know there wouldn’t be any random poo around, although dogs are loved and looked after here with fresh water and shade in the walled garden area. Will definitely be back! We want to try their new weekly menu. Well done guys!

Came upon the lovely pub on a circular walk around the south east Mendips. Welcoming, and dog friendly. Good beer ( free house) and although a small choice on menu it was great tasty pub food. Homemade cream of parsnip soup was delicious. Mega club sandwich and best chips I’ve had in a while. Would highly recommend anyone to pop in.

Booked last minute Sunday lunch. Cosy pub and welcoming staff on a cold November afternoon. Great lunch with all the trimmings. Generous portions with quality ingredients, ticked all the boxes. The seasoning of the veg and gravy were delicious. The roast chicken and roast beef both came with stuffing and Yorkshire pudding so we were very happy. We will definitely be back again and keep our eyes peeled For Italian, Chinese, steak and fish nights. Thank You

Tried this pub after a recommendation and was not disappointed. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Accidentally arrived on their Italian night and couldn’t of been more thrilled!! Lovely food, drink was fab. I have a food snob child and she was impressed! Dog friendly which was great to be able to bring her along too. The chef also came out for a chat which I thought was lovely and he’s convinced us to go on another visit for their fish evening on a Friday, highly recommended!

We last visited the Waldegrave in late May 22 when the food was delicious and freshly prepared with lots of option available. We visited today and the food is now below average deep fried or reheated pub grub. No vegan or healthy options available, and only one vegetarian option because they didn’t have any vegetable curry or “meat free chilli”. What a shame the food has gone down hill. I think the pub may have changed management since our last visit.

I just had an annoying altercation in pub with a playground that I closed their gate... excuse me but that needs to stay open for our patrons. I was really upset after because it was one of our favourites. Honestly do they think their customers are so stupid they can't open a simple gate. Being a mum of 4 under 7 I was having a lovely time until the containment was compromised. I think it would be a nice pub for 5 + but my 2 year old adventurous twins safety where they don't understand. We popped into the Waldegrave back in the summer shortly after the new management had taken over and were delighted by the food and drink served.Decided to head back for a pub lunch this week to check that the standards hadn't dropped. On a cold wet Thursday the pub was warm and welcoming . We had a pint each of the Butty Bach and Dartmoor Jail Ale followed by food, (moules mariniere/farinata then ham sandwich and steak sandwich). All of this was excellent in terms of taste, amount and price. On a personal note I was sad to see that the slow-cooked beef brisket sandich wasn't on the menu.Service was prompt. Service and ambience is excellent and would be ideal for a Sunday lunch without the kids, however it's not family friendly. There's no nappy change despite very generous loos. I had to change my child on the floor and, boy, was I tutted at by the middle class locals! This pub has come under new management about 2 months ago. Called in on a Thursday lunchtime during a local walk. New landlord very welcoming and chatty. The food that we had, (slow-cooked beef brisket sandwiches), was superb and moderately priced. The rest of the menu looked good in that it was real pub food and real pub prices. We ate outside as it was a nice day: indoors the décor was light without being bright and everything was clean and tidy. Of the two draught beers, (Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Butty Bach from the Wye Valley Brewery), we only sampled the BB which was excellent.

We do so agree with dbp 18. We live locally and this is the best the Waldegrave Arms has been in 35 years. Lowrie the chef is first rate. We had pickled squid and venison bresaola to start and we both had lemon sole. We shared the cheese plate and then the chocolate pear pudding. All were first rate. We like the fact the menu is not too long. We know as a result the food is freshly prepared and not out of a freezer. We eat out quite a bit and this is really good food. The wine list is good too. But the pub also has pub classics including fish and chips, ham eggs and chips etc. and great beer. Butty Bach from Abergavenny is outstanding. And it is a really nice place to eat too. We visited for a last minute Sunday lunch with family following a lovely walk in the Combe. It all started well as the pub has been beautifully decorated, and there is a lovely beer garden with play area for the kids, but having had to wait nearly an hour for our mains the food was really poor. The Yorkshire puddings were inedible (cold and burnt), cauliflower cheese was watery, and roast potatoes seemed to be old and just warmed through. At £13 a head it was overpriced. The two young servers did their best but I felt that the owner/manager was a bit off. Apparently our food was late because the single starter plate hadn’t been taken back to the kitchen. A simple apology and message to expedite our mains would have helped but we kept being told 5-10 more minutes. The final nail was being given the wrong bill.

Booked a table to visit this dog friendly pub with our friends for a Sunday roast after a walk in the nearby East Harptree Wood & Smitham Chimney. We received a lovely welcome from the manager & her staff. The roast was excellent, good choice of super meats & veg cooked to perfection followed by beautiful desserts. There were vegetarian choices on the menu. Definitely recommend this gem of a place. We sat in a separate room called the ‘stable’ with its own stable door, two tables put together, this made us more relaxed with our dogs, this would be an ideal room for a large family group with little ones. The room was still very much part of the pubs atomosphere. There were two open fires and easy chairs to relax in, with the kitchen easy to view. A good selection of beer & ales. Lovely & clean with attention to detail all round. Thank you for making our day special. We will be back!

Tucked somewhat about of the way in this pleasant village, it’s certainly not somewhere you’re going to stumble across by accident and it was populated almost entirely by locals on our recent mid-week visit, who whilst all clustering around the bar making it slightly tricky to get served, did at least all seem friendly enough. It’s had a change of ownership and something of a refurbishment since my last visit, and whilst I always thought of it as a cosy old country pub, it was perhaps getting a little tired and they have done a good job in keeping much of the original charm whilst at the same time freshening it up and making feel a little more contemporary.

Been a few times and we really enjoy it always a polite place to visit. Always have a good laugh with the chaps behind the bar. The food is always made fresh from the kitchen. The meals are all good never had a bad meal there. The roast is good and the lasagna is good. Always a fantastic meal highly recommend it.

What a great meal! We opened with gins from the extensive selection. Very good starters of trout pate and pork and hazelnut terrine. Well cooked sea bass and a really tasty fish pie. Finished off with a yummy sticky toffee pudding. A good wine list too. And very reasonably priced. You must go. Lovely staff too.

Really excellent meal (smoked trout and horseradish pate, confit duck with puy lentils, cassoulet, sticky toffee pudding). The French chef is very talented and the menu is a mixture of his specials and pub favourites so something for everyone. Lovely friendly staff too.

Found this pub by accident wanting something to eat late afternoon on way to Bristol Airport. Really nice meal, good beer and friendly staff and landlord. Would go again; in lovely village and scenic area. It is under new management and they have an interesting building that has potential for development.

We ate here whilst on an overnight stay in the local village. All of the staff were really friendly and the pub had a nice, homely feel (all helped by the open fire!) We both had the Cajun chicken burger which we couldn't fault, the chips were also lovely. Would definitely recommend!

After a busy flower show in the village the committee headed to our local pub for a meal out. It was delicious, we chose a variety of dishes and all were presented very well, were lovely and hot and tasted delicious. I had the ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly and came with enough trimmings for a hearty appetite.

Lovely village pub. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Food was well presented and very tasty. We will definitely be returning to try the Sunday lunch and will be bringing the grandchildren to test the lovely play area in the rear garden.

Ate here with friends last week and was really impressed. The choice of meals is great; catering for all tastes. The portion sizes were huge...no room for dessert! Will have to make a return visit to rectify this.

A proper English pub serving very good food. The welcome was great and the service very good. I would advise you to book before turning up because they are always busy especially at weekends.

Visited on a Sunday at lunch time. They had decided not to serve traditional Sunday lunches which was disappointing - the standard menu was available but was not very exciting. The lasagne was tasteless and the triple cooked chips were soggy. Service was slow but friendly and the beer was good.

£7.20 for a pint of Brixton ale. Someone needs to tell these people the COVID bounce ended a long time ago. No wonder the place was empty.

8 of us descended on this cafe on a Sunday early afternoon. The service was excellent, the coffee the best I had in Bath and the lemon cake was to die for!! There was a lovely atmosphere in the place between couples and groups of friends.
