Nice looking pub with good beers however somewhat spoilt by a very grumpy bar lady who was insistent on serving beer with at least 2 inches of head and was most upset what I politely asked her to top it. We have always had amazing food and service here but called in on a Saturday morning for brunch and wish we had chosen somewhere else. Had a 32 minute wait for pancakes and eggs Benedict and when it arrived it was barely warm, The place was not even busy - probably only 4 x tables dining there. Not even an update or an apology was given to us by staff. Maybe they are just only good sat lunch and dinner ?!

My son and I were taking a tour of Bath and our guide suggested that stopping in to the Huntsman for a quiet drink was worth it. Boy, was it ever! The barman offered me free samples of ale, as I had not tried any of the cask ales they offered. I settled on Fuller's London Pride. My son, being underage, settled for still water. The atmosphere of The Huntsman is incredible: it feels like you're hanging out in someone's living room instead of a business! There are even games and books on the shelves to entertain yourselves! We never felt rushed and probably could have spent the entire afternoon if we hadn't had to get back on the tour bus. Highly recommended!

I recently came to The Huntsman for a dear friends leaving drinks. He loves Double Decker chocolate bars, I spent the entire day gifting him multi packs in increasingly funnier circumstances. He wasn't expecting the final pack at the pub. I smuggled another pack in and asked the staff if they could wait 10 minutes and bring the pack over to the table. The staff Jess and Rosa improvised. They brought them out on food trays minutes apart, which added to the humour and confusion! Finished by a pint glass filled with Double Deckers 🤣 They made it an unforgettable day, best place in town!

I arrived Saturday afternoon in the midst of a nearby semi-final rugby game (the roars of the crowd was incredible) and was promptly seated and served with the upmost care. I enjoyed my first UK Fish & Chips and sticky toffee pudding here! The fish was huge and nicely beer battered. The platter was flavorful and delightful with the juice of a lemon and the tartar sauce. This place gets anything above a one star because the wait staff was keen enough to get us a pint on the house because the food took an hour to arrive while the previous table, a party of 10, got their food instantaneously. The chicken roast was divided among two tiny bits of unnoticeable breast chunks overcooked to look like puff pastry and the pork roast was equally dry. I’m almost sorry to say, this was a sincerely bad meal. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone .

They were hoping for a proper 'English pub lunch' type experience, and I have to say that the Huntsman did a great job on every level. The staff were efficient and friendly, the service was spot on, and the haddock and chips with minted peas was unbeatable, genuinely the best cooked piece of haddock I have ever eaten. We were tired and hungry, hadn't eaten all day. It was 5:45pm when we walked in. It took nearly 40 minutes to get our food! I had the Sunday Roast which was alright. My husband wanted fish and chips but they were out of it so he sadly settled for the tough flavourless steak which was supposed to have mushrooms but came with none. When we told the service staff they acted like he ate them all and they could put I an order for the mushrooms. Ridiculous! £30 for an utterly rubbish steak and ill-mannered staff plus the audacity of adding a tip to the bill. Avoid at all costs.

It does NOT specify ‘house’ on the menu and the barmaid did not ask me which Sauvignon I would like. The manager told me that it was their standard procedure to give the £38 bottle. BEWARE! Can't praise The Huntman and its wonderful team enough. This is a handsome historic pub in the heart of the city, very 'Bath'. My choir had a private dinner in the upstairs function room after singing in the Abbey. There were nearly 50 of us but there was plenty of room in that lovely space, with its real log fire and piano - just what we needed for our after dinner sing. The food was excellent and very efficiently served by the super team, even though it was a busy Saturday night. Really great food and the atmosphere was just beautiful! The reason I'm taking away a star is because it took 40 minutes to get our food. We put our order in at noon and there were a total of five people in the whole place, the two of us included. At 12:40pm, we inquired as to when our food would be out, as it was a burger and fish sandwich. They told us they only had one cook, so it was taking longer than usual. That's a REALLY long time for that amount of food. When we were leaving, a whole bunch of people came in. I feel for them if it took 40 minutes to deal with five people when the place filled up.

The venue itself is beautiful. Really lovely pub as so many are in Bath. Unfortunately the reception we had from the girl on the bar downstairs was unfriendly, boarding on rude. Had to wait for our table which was 20 mins late, which I understand on a busy Sunday is often the case - not easy to turn the tables. Roast dinners were okay, nice Yorkshire pudding which came regardless of what meat you ordered which is a nice touch. We ordered the extra potatoes at nearly £5 which was a little pricey. Out of 5 puddings, only 2 were available. Again they were fine but nothing more than that. For two people, both having two courses and a pint and a half of Pepsi each nearly £90 stung a bit.

Lovely place for pre Halloween drinks, Basti our server was funny and efficient for bottomless brunch. I recommend coming here for good drinks 👻

Nice pub, busy inside. Food was standard pub grub which is exactly what we wanted. Staff were also very friendly, Irish barman especially (sorry, didn't catch his name).

Its just wow, what a pub full of characters exactly what pub should look. I have never done a review for any places in my life as I am very easy going person but this place couldn't resist me not to write. I would like to start from the entry of pub, as soon as we arrived car park looked empty but there were enough signs all over the place, we met one of the staff at car park who was tidying up leaves, he then came with us inside with nice smile and great us inside and ask us to register car so we did what he told us to do. Its very easy. long story short, big H behind the bar was beyond hospitable. We had a lovely table by conservatory with nice view of river weir, ordered drinks all fresh and nice very good Guinness and 6x. We then ordered food, my friend ordered pie which was wonderful, my sister's son ordered pizza which was one of the best we have ever had in Bath and Bristol, I ordered lamb Rogan Josh, which is another best Indian curry I have had in years and my sister had a special sea bass which was huge and so tasty which we still talk about it. overall food here in Jolly Sailor is just wow. It surprised me who wouldn't want to eat such a lovely food. Service is next level, I can guarantee, you would never get that kind of professional and next level service anywhere in the pub or restaurant. I got it, pub looks old as it is old pub. my only advise for patrons is, this pub is historical and service and food is mind blowing. If you want to get good food, good service and beautiful ambience and view this is the place. Very good value of money and once again big H keep up with your good work.
