Really cosy place to shelter from the storm this weekend - open fire, mulled wine, delicious food. We had a few starters/ small plates to share. The pheasant salad and mushroom risotto were especially tasty. Mulled wine could have been a little hotter to keep us warmer for longer

We had Sunday roasts. Excellent food, the staff were lovely but the service was really slow. Almost two hours for two courses. The drinks were brought fairly promptly but our main course was almost an hour. It then took ages for the desert menus to be brought to us. It was very noisy in there, hence the 3 stars for atmosphere. Not an experience to be repeated in our opinion, unfortunately.

Really delicious food but the service was not great at all. We dined on a Friday evening when the restaurant wasn't that busy. We had to ask to order drinks, our food was on the pass for a while before it was delivered, not enough staff 😪

Really nice place, very good food, but too few staff on the day we were there - and it was busy. Not the staff’s fault at all. And probably not the owners fault either; staffing is a real problem for restaurants etc., I think, and I guess particularly so in a busy place like Bath. We all need more waiters!

Took the family for a birthday sunday lunch but we were quite disappointed overall. We were seated at 1.15 and the food arrived 90 minutes later - 4 of us ordered pies - 30 mins after ordering they said they only had 2 pies so we chose something else - some time later they then said they had miscalculated and had only one pie! The food was fairly average - small portions and cold plates. So overall not worth the money and we really didn’t enjoy the meal.

We booked in advance by a wk and had friends visiting so we're keen to show them the fab view. In the past, I've eaten in the conservatory or the areas where we could enjoy the lovely view of Bath. Unfortunately we were given a table road side which was a squeeze being in the window area. After drinks & before our food arrived we moved to an adjoining table which had more room. The food was lovely, we had Sunday roast but neither chicken or lamb were on the menu..lamb explained the waitress was too costly at the moment..but chicken?! Still an enjoyable meal but perhaps when booking you need to ask for a specific area to sit?

Came on a Sunday. Good food, though not anything extremely special. The meat was of good quality, and the service was great. The waiting time wasn't bad at all, and when they made a mistake in the order, they were quick to change it. Definitely is pricey though portion size is good. The desserts were great, the ice cream was of high quality, though the sticky toffee pudding was not to my liking, felt a bit bitter from being overcooked. Would recommend.

Updated review : It's been 5 years since I've been here in it's heyday. Now it's tired, the toilets stunk and the only reedming quality was the location. When we came we were told all the tables next to the window were reserved and this isn't the first time we've been told that in the morning. I sat there and watched and for a whole hour we were there no one turned up for these supposedly 'reserved' tables. Our waitress served us as if we were a piece of toilet paper stuck on someone's foot. I do not know if she had an issue with us as we weren't speaking English but I would hope a place like this was inclusive.

Stopped for bacon sandwich with extra bacon and coffee. Just short of £15 for 3 pieces of hard over cooked extremely greasy streaky bacon on sourdough bread that i can only assume was stale as they toasted it to within an inch of its life. The crust was burnt and harder than rock. The saving grace was the fat off the extra greasy bacon softened the centre of the sandwich to a level that was soft enough to eat. It would have also been nice to have it with the coffee, not 30 minutes later. Should have waited the 30 minutes that it took to over cook 3 pieces of streaky bacon and cremate two pieces of sourdough and had a full english at the Fairfield Arms. Lesson learnt.

Meeting up with my family, there were 14 of us travelling from Cornwall, Devon, Tewkesbury and Sutton Coldfield, including 2 children and a baby. The Hare and Hounds was a great find on the map that meant we could all travel and meet up for the first time in years. We were there for Sunday Lunch, being given an indoor area to ourselves so that we were able to enjoy the afternoon in privacy. The booking and pre-ordering was easy, the detail to allergies/intolerances impeccable, and then when the food arrived, well it was all amazing, the mains and desserts were all delicious. We were extremely looked after on the day by Simon and James, who couldn't have done enough for us, we could see the place was busy so for making us feel important, I thank you. After we had eaten we could have stayed inside for longer, but we decided to make the most of the weather and the stunning views from the garden and sat on the terracing outside and still the great service continued, with coffees and drinks. We all had such a wonderful day. Thank you all so much for making our family reunion a day to remember, we will certainly be seeing you again, best wishes, Pam Rhodes and family.

Well that was disappointing, went for a late lunch, the dinning area was cold and I had to shut the door for them. The server who I assume was new was bright and tried hard. Unfortunately whilst it's a quite small menu, they didn't have all of it available. I was also very surprised that a pub restaurant owned by a brewery only had one ale available and this wasn't one of their own. We pressed on, I ordered the sourdough rolls to munch whilst we waited, they had patently been microwaved when they eventually turned up and awful. I had the steak which was well prepared and arrived cooked as requested, the accompanying fries tasted liked they'd been cooked several hours before and were like eating straw. Won't be doing that again

Great view, location and atmosphere for a pint. But be careful expecting food: they close the outdoor pizza spot when they feel like it “when it gets cold”. In this case that was at 6:43pm on a bank holiday when I’m stood in a Tshirt. Indoors they have loads of tables free but don’t have the capacity to serve them food. Overall feels like an expensive pub with great potential, but hasn’t yet worked out customer service is more than just being polite but also about delivering a service.

my partner and i went on a wednesday night, it’s based near bath racecourse, i have had this place saved due to the view for a while now and we were really excited to go. upon arrival the car park was poorly organised so we had to park on the road, when stepping inside we were very warmly greeted by a lady who seated us outside on the terrace upon our request. it was busy with almost every table taken up with 3-5 people sat down so we knew we were going to wait for a while. they had a lower terrance where it looked like they were serving drinks and wood fire pizza, i ordered the sausage and mash while my partner order the korean burger. you have to go up to the bar to order when sitting outside, i got a coke and my partner got a pint of inches, with food in total it cost £49 , we then had to wait 48 minutes precisely for our food which came out room temperature and looking a bit sorry for itself. though the sausage and mash did taste great, some vegetables would have been great to break it up. my partners burger was dry and bland in his words but we still ate it all and we left with full tummies. on leaving, i noticed in the kitchen it looked like there was only 1, maybe 2 chefs there - now i’ve worked hospitality the majority of my life, i completely understand the stress when you’re understaffed, but the ladies and gentlemen who served us were very attentive. overall id rate my experience 6/10, there’s definitely room for improvement but we were fed and staff were kind, what more can you ask for?

Took my grandparents here for the first time as a treat, along with my son. They throughly enjoyed themselves & thought the food & service was fantastic, which I couldn't agree more. We were welcomed in by a friendly waitress who showed us to our table, which overlooked the views (though unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side today so poor visibility) but that didn't take away from our experience, the staff couldn't do enough for us, all making genuine conversation and even congratulating my boy for his music performance we had just been too. The food was absolutely delicious! Empty plates all round! It's a rare treat for us to have a dessert but because the food was so tasty we made room for them & really pleased we did as they were Devine! The only problem I had was trying to stop my son taking some of mine as in his words 'this is the best sticky toffee pudding in the world' and I fully agreed with him! Wowzers! Sunday lunch on the 14th of July for our son’s 17th Birthday. Wow, amazing food, service, views and atmosphere. A new chef had started on the Tuesday and they were short staffed in the kitchen working extremely hard. This chef and his staff are superb. We were had the carrot & coriander soup, the nicest I’ve ever had as the texture and flavours were perfect and the chicken and apricot terrine with a selection of breads. For our main, the burger, the hake fish & chips and the cheese, cranberry tart with a kale pastry as a Sunday roast with all the trimmings. We were advised there would be a wait for our food due to the kitchen being stretched but we didn’t wait long and it was worth waiting for. The food was hot, beautifully presented and the flavours and textures incredible. Hats off to the kitchen as when busy, sometimes food isn’t presented well but this was not the case. The chips were obviously frozen, they were thin and overcooked. The Korean Chicken Burger was inedible! I found the smallest piece of thigh meat, around 3cm round which was covered is a very hard thick grey crumb sort of stuff that was surrounding the chicken making it appear thick and much larger, however this still was only around 5cm by 7cm in total so didn’t in any way fill the size of the bun which was char grilled. It tasted disgusting and I could not eat it! My husband said his burger was unpleasant but he had a fairly thick normal sized round burger in his bun. The manager (I think) asked how our food was and my husband said very mediocre but the man laughed and walked away. I had only just tried mine and I just couldn’t eat it, the taste was so bad - I called the man back and he said he thought we were joking as other people have often said that before! He saw I couldn’t eat it and took the meal off our bill and asked if I would like anything else on the house. I refused as I was at that stage totally put off by the food and had an awful taste left in my mouth. We finished our drinks, paid the bill and left. I don’t normally put bad reviews on but feel I have to this time as the meals are not cheap and this afternoon I now have a very bad case of something that feels like food poisoning. My husband also had a bad stomach this morning. I will never eat there again!

What a fabulous family evening we enjoyed at Hare & Hounds, Bath for my daughter's birthday last evening ( July 10 2024). At very short notice, we were allocated a superb family room ( 'The Library') complete with huge flatcscreen TV ( football semi-finals!) The food was delicious & both food & drinks very reasonably priced. The superb staff Ben,Brad,Josh & Freya could not have been more helpful and accommodating for family members aged 4 -67!

Unfortunately had an awful experience here. I sent an email about our experience waited a few weeks for feedback and received nothing, hence I’m now sharing on here. We came for my dads birthday (sister and 4yr old nephew), it was a Friday afternoon at 2pm (past the “peak time”) we had to wait 45min to be served any drinks, we were unable to be served at the bar as they did not let us, we went up on multiple occasions. Once we got our drink's(1x Diet Coke, OJ and a cappuccino) we wanted to order some food, we had to wait a further 20mins, ordered food (basic order of main meals and children’s meal) we waited a further 45mins, the food came with no cutlery, had to go up and get ourselves. The food was super basic, no seasoning and dry. Very disappointing. I can cook better at home, it is extremely overpriced. The manager was also very rude and sarcastic, made some remarks that was uncalled for. Also was very rude to the staff. Safe to say we won’t be returning.

A fabulous location to enjoy the views, great food and service. Unfortunately only the views excelled on our most recent visit. Hopefully the "recovery actions" will see this pub return to what we know and once again justify the reason for having this on our must visit list.

We visited this pub after my nephews prom down the road. Three of us ordered the Chicken Burger which sadly was barely edible. We gave this feedback and they were taken off the bill. It sounded like a bad day in the kitchen as we heard that this feedback had been raised by other tables too. I think I would come back in the hope it was a one off issue.

We recently visited the Hare and Hounds for a family roast and had the best time. They were able to accommodate us with a high chair, we also had our dog with us. The service was outstanding, the food delicious and the setting just beautiful. Such a lovely spot

Overrated Sunday roast, poor service, but lovely location. We love a good Sunday roast and were very excited to try here. Especially if the weather is good, you have a great view outside. Unfortunately we were starving, they took ages to serve us, forgot about our order twice and after reminding them multiple times we were served a subpar lukewarm warm roast. They did try to rectify it afterwards by offering a free dessert but we really weren’t impressed with the roast so gave it a miss. Come for the view probably and nice drink in the sun, but if you want the best Sunday roast then look elsewhere in Bath.

Goodness! What a lovely pub with fantastic food, views and selection of drinks. The chef was very friendly and knowledgeable, explaining some of the magic ingredients he uses in the dishes. Superb service from a beautiful Olivia and her fabulous smile. She's a real star of hospitality!

Great place with an very welcoming landlord and a massive history. Go early for a pint and ask the landlord, he will happily tell you plenty interesting things about this beautiful building and it's history. Must go place.

The taste and service are worthy of Michelin, unlike other restaurants that automatically charge tips by default, and the price is reasonable. The portion and presentation of the pork cheek as an appetizer are at the same level as the main course elsewhere. Although the sauce is very salty, the meat itself is very soft. It is recommended. The venison I ordered for the main course was also very tender and had no strange smell. The potatoes were roasted with a knife and were very fragrant. For dessert, I ordered sticky pudding. Personally, I don’t really like this dessert, but I ordered it for Christmas. However, they still made it very fragrant and delicious. If I come to Bath again, I will focus on this restaurant as many times as I can eat there. It is much better than other restaurants.

Rude bar staff on entry, didn’t feel very welcome and witnessed the same member of staff making snarky remarks about other guests.

Horrible starter, prawns not cooked properly, too much lettuce and mayo, mediocre main course - mushroom wellington with only one slice of mushroom in it! The desert was very nice. Staff a bit prickly. No oat or soya milk, only cow's milk.
