Loved it. Meeting with others and discovered the pub is part of a chain but still good. There quick bites are ok, butains are better. Loved the leeks as a side!!!

After an invigorating walk uphill, you reach this absolutely lovely establishment with its breathtaking views! The staff is friendly and accommodating, the food delicious and the cider sublime. We didn’t bring any today, but it’s also very dog friendly. Would definitely recommend!

We love this pub, it’s near our family home and been going there for many years. The food is fantastic and the ambience as well. Last week they had a live singer. Highly recommended

One of the Worst Hospitality Experiences I’ve Ever Had – Avoid. I’ve been coming to this pub for over 20 years, even after moving away from Bath — it was always a favourite. Sadly, that legacy came crashing down after one of the rudest and most arrogant staff encounters I’ve ever had. We had booked well in advance for Bath Half Marathon weekend — two weeks ahead, confirmed in writing by email. Yet when we turned up, we were informed the booking had been cancelled. No apology. No explanation. Just flat-out dismissal from a woman who seemed to take pride in being unpleasant. She told us — with staggering smugness — that they “often cancel bookings the day before” when they “know their numbers.” As if this is normal practice? Spoiler: it’s not. That’s not how any remotely professional or respectful establishment operates. But it didn’t stop there. She went on to boast about the pub being some sort of fine dining powerhouse, making it sound like we were lucky to even step foot inside. Reality check: it’s a nice enough pub, but nothing more than a slightly above-average spot. The delusion was strong. When we expressed our shock, she offered us a “solution”: we could sit outside in 4-degree weather and have a pizza. We asked if there were heaters. Her excuse? “The storm blew them over.” Not exactly the service you’d expect from what she seemed to think was the best restaurant in Bath. While we were outside (freezing, understandably deciding not to stay), one of our group overheard her mocking us to another staff member, laughing that we were delusional for showing up and saying we’d never get a table. That kind of behaviour goes beyond bad service — it’s just nasty. Frankly, this woman did the pub a serious disservice. Her attitude, her arrogance, and her complete lack of basic hospitality skills are a stain on what was once a beloved local spot. If the management has any concern for the future of this place, they should seriously reconsider who they put front of house. There are dozens of wonderful, welcoming places to eat and drink in Bath. I strongly advise you choose any of them but this one.

Food was delicious. Had sole with new potatoes and cooked perfectly. My dad had fish and chips and even though it was a big portion it was all eaten. Very friendly staff and lovely surroundings.

This used to be an amazing pub, our go-to. What has gone wrong? Food is mediocre at best. Dishes are over priced small and to be honest, not great. Went with my family, tabke of nine and we all agreed. Sorry Hare and Hounds, I can't see us coming back 😢

Lovely pub overlooking beautiful Bath. We went for Sunday lunch. Very good choice of vegetarian food, not just nut roast. Food very good.

The food is exceptional and has been consistent over several visits. The steaks we had on this visit were excellent. The service is average and at times feels slow.

We had a large group visiting from Canada and wanted them to experience a Sunday roast. The Hare and Hounds staff were amazing and super organised (thank you Lauren!!!). We pre-order our meals, which was super efficient and everything was exactly as ordered. The food was delicious and everyone loved their choices. The overall experience was great and it was a perfect first Sunday roast experience for our Canadian guests.

I had booked a special lunch with a friend. We were 20 mins early. Service was very good, however I was deeply disappointed with our baguette lunches which we ordered. I expected the standard to be higher in what feels and which I think regards itself as a good eating establishment. Very ordinary nothing special at all. When I opened my baguette there actually wasn't that much ham in it either. I chose because I expected more and now wish we'd not made the effort to venture out of town where there are so many nicer places to eat. Shame overall.

Fabulous. I think it was John behind the bar who was but everyone was lovely. Great experience, recommend 100%. Setting, staff and everything was on point.

Freya was a most excellent waitress she had a go to attitude with quick comeback and positive results. I can recommend the service on this experience and Brad at the bar was most congenial, accommodating and fun. A delightful and friendly atmosphere.

Our first visit to the Hare & Hounds was prompted by an online review saying how wonderful the food and the views from the garden were, they weren’t wrong. The food was absolutely delicious and the attentive and friendly service from John couldn’t have made us feel more comfortable and looked after. Highly recommended if you get the chance to visit.

Fabulous pub with delicious menu, wide range of drinks, and the staff were friendly providing great service. Their version of bread and butter pudding was heavenly. Highly recommend as views are stunning.

We had a lovely experience. We had a city break from London. I do work in the industry and all I just want to say is that the experience overall was outstanding. From food presentation to the customer service. I would love to mention some of the staff names which made our experience so lively on our short break: Ben(behind the bar), Brad the supervisor. Thank you so much for makings our break so lovely. And btw the live music was amazing.

Great for Sunday lunch. Tasty, lean beef with nicely cooked vegetables, great service and wonderful views over Bath. They even allow dogs.

Beautiful pub with superb food and breathtaking views of the valley. Large outside area makes it a great choice for the warmer months, and even has a fireplace during winter.

I rarely post reviews but the H&H were fantastic! We were a big party, kept changing our numbers but they were warm and professional throughout. And the food was delicious - I recommend the butternut wellington! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

An absolute gem of a pub! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff are friendly, and the pint of Gem is simply perfect—poured to perfection and full of flavour. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay for ‘just one more.’ A true hidden treasure, and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

This is such a lovely pub in a brilliant location on edge of bath in lansdown. The views are amazing and its worth spending a bit more and embracing the lovely beer garden and view on a summers day. The interior still has its old style look and has a lot of seating. Staff are friendly and are welcoming. Car park is spacious and entrance to the pub is picturesque.

Took my grandparents here for the first time as a treat, along with my son. They throughly enjoyed themselves & thought the food & service was fantastic, which I couldn't agree more. We were welcomed in by a friendly waitress who showed us to our table, which overlooked the views (though unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side today so poor visibility) but that didn't take away from our experience, the staff couldn't do enough for us, all making genuine conversation and even congratulating my boy for his music performance we had just been too. The food was absolutely delicious! Empty plates all round! It's a rare treat for us to have a dessert but because the food was so tasty we made room for them & really pleased we did as they were Devine! The only problem I had was trying to stop my son taking some of mine as in his words 'this is the best sticky toffee pudding in the world' and I fully agreed with him! Wowzers! Definitely know what I'm having next time! All in all, this was a wonderful experience, thank you to the staff and hats off to the chefs - they nailed it!

Had the roast turkey wife had the beef ..one word exceptional ..I was sad when I had finished , so ordered the crumble as did my wife ..again fabulous ..I have only had it better still hungry as it did burst the button on my trousers !!!

A lovely evening, with excellent food and charming knowledgeable staff. My friends had the hake and we had the mussels and the pie, all delicious. Although the weather was horrible there were enough customers to make a nice atmosphere. We are locals and visit quite often and always find it a good experience. The only thing missing is a loyalty discount card!!

Visited as a table of four (plus dog!) for lunch. Excellent friendly service from the staff - and really nice food. In our group, the highlights were the blue cheese and truffle burgers, while the brie tart and fish and chips were also appreciated. We will be back again.

The place was busy and lots of locals. So when I booked Christmas Dinner 2 months in advance for 6 people, I wouldn't expect to be put in the middle of the bar (very busy flow and hustle and bustle). I paid a considerable amount of money for. When we made an enquiry the manager stipulated they were chosen by the other customers. So this was a very poor as I booked it through their website. Too many bookings?? I placed order for desserts that they stated they did not even have on their menu? Very confused by this. I showed them my email sent from them? Then the desserts that were correct, had no berries alongside the chocolate dessert? Which I was looking forward to. I should of had chocolate and coffees at the end, but I didn't receive this. I didn't even ask, by this time we all just wanted to leave. I had paid in advance for this meal and then they try to charge me upon leaving. But again showed them the email. Overall experience wasn't great, the food was okay. Christmas Main meal was the best part. I was driving and there wasn't any alcohol free options for a wine or cava. I could let this go if the rest of my experience was better. This was the first time of doing Christmas Dinner in a restaurant. I'm not sure if I will do it again.

We were a group of 4 adults + 1 child and were greeted by staff immediately on arrival and served by a very friendly, efficient lady. We had varied choices for our meals and were very pleased with all of them. Had a table by the window and so were able to enjoy the glorious view (despite very grey weather). This was particularly pleasing as three members of our party live abroad and very much appreciated the scenery. Only slight disappointment was the rather heavy sponge in the sticky toffee pudding. Have come here a number of times in the past and have always been very happy with the experience. Many thanks to all concerned.

Loved our meal at the Hare and Hounds. We were there for a birthday meal on NYE and it was faultless. Food and drinks were exceptional and Brad was thoughtful, funny and engaging. He’s a real asset to the team. Will definitely be back and thanks to everyone!

Had 2 meals there over a weekend with a large group of 12 including children. They were superb from start to finish, with a great welcome, quick and efficient service for such a large group, and accommodated last minute changes to our order. Choice of food and drinks was excellent, and the food was top quality, good portion sizes and delicious. Really helped made our stay welcome and would definitely go back in the future when near Bath.

We had a lovely family meal at the hare and hound in bath today .Everything was super. It was busy but everything went well. Super roasts, great service from Molly and what a great venue. We will Definately be back .

Great Christmas Day meal here - freshly cooked, well organised and very cheerful staff made it a lovely experience!

Unfortunately, this wasn't a pleasant experience. Booked for Christmas Day several weeks ago (October) and sent across pre-order as requested. The starters got mixed up and ended up not eating together, the flatbread that was meant to be served on arrival (which we were advised by a member of staff they would go request it as soon as we were seated) didn't turn up initially and after reminded the staff member, it arrived with the starters. The main meal took over an hour to come out, I requested for our 2 year old meal to come out as soon as possible as having to wait for so long. This eventually came out, approx 20 minutes after requesting, and the wrong meal came out. When eventually our mains came out, the roast potatoes were overcooked, the Brussel sprouts were undercooked, the cauliflower cheese was just mush. The meal was terrible except the turkey. When discussing with the staff although they apologised, it didn't feel sincere and felt that we were to blame because we booked to eat out on a busy day. We booked a 12pm seating to cater for our toddler and avoid the main rush but they are unable to cater for 'busy' days. No refund has been given although was advised the children's meal would be refunded. Very disappointed as had high expectations after previously coming here with positive experiences.

We had our work's Christmas party here and it was excellent from start to finish. We received a very warm welcome from manager Lauren, and Molly and Nigel her staff were lovely. Service was quick and efficient, the food was very nicely presented and really yummy! We all really enjoyed the experience and will definitely return. Thank you Lauren and team from the gang at Bath Spa University!!

4 adults and 1 child booked in for a pre-ordered Christmas lunch 12 noon til 2pm. We arrived promptly and were shown to our table, taking some drinks with us. We ordered a bottle of wine and were told that our garlic bread would arrive soon. About 30 minutes later some starters were brought out, but they weren't for our table as there were more of them than us. We waited another 15 minutes and then the garlic bread and starters turned up at the same time. After we'd eaten them, they cleared the plates and said our cleansing plate (grapefruit sorbet) would be out soon. We waited another 15 minutes before it arrived. Again, the plates were cleared and we were told, once again, that the main course would be out soon. Half an hour later we were still waiting. As the young child hadn't had anything to eat so far, we asked if they could at least bring their's out. It wasn't what had been pre-ordered, but we didn't have time to wait for another meal to be cooked. The adults' meal eventually arrived with over cooked potatoes, just cooked parsnips and a few measly carrots. 10 minutes later rock hard sprouts and a mushy cauliflower cheese arrived. After bringing all of this to the staff's attention, they said "hospitality is always difficult at this time of the year". They did offer to refund the child's meal (not had as yet) and didn't charge for the drinks. Needless to say, at that point we'd had enough and didn't stay for our desserts. The funniest thing was that their poster for the Christmas meal said "make it a memorable occasion". It certainly was that!!!

Booked a table here on the 23rd Dec, met with old friends, there were 4 of us in total. Had a lovely welcome from staff as we arrived, then during the evening they were chatty with us too, professional, attentive, engaging and nothing was too much bother. We were served by Freya, so a shout out to her for being such a star in particular. All our food came quickly from the kitchen, everything piping hot, delicious all round. We ordered 2 beef burgers, a veggie burger and a pie. The veggie burger according to my girlfriend was the best she's ever had. All meals were super tasty and cooked with skill and care. It's so obvious that the whole team work well together and genuinely care about customers' experiences. A rare find these days. Well done to everyone as you are doing it right. Keep up the good work and I hope you all had a nice Christmas (and didn't work too hard). Also, I'd like to add that the view over Bath from this venue during the day is fantastic. Plus you can visit via Newbridge without having to go through the Low Emission Zone, saving a few coins!

Really cosy place to shelter from the storm this weekend - open fire, mulled wine, delicious food. We had a few starters/ small plates to share. The pheasant salad and mushroom risotto were especially tasty. Mulled wine could have been a little hotter to keep us warmer for longer

We just moved to the area and thought we would try this out and was amazed. Food was delicious service was outstanding and there was also a solo artist singing which we enjoyed. Just might have found our local.

We had Sunday roasts. Excellent food, the staff were lovely but the service was really slow. Almost two hours for two courses. The drinks were brought fairly promptly but our main course was almost an hour. It then took ages for the desert menus to be brought to us. It was very noisy in there, hence the 3 stars for atmosphere. Not an experience to be repeated in our opinion, unfortunately.

Really delicious food but the service was not great at all. We dined on a Friday evening when the restaurant wasn't that busy. We had to ask to order drinks, our food was on the pass for a while before it was delivered, not enough staff 😪

Really nice place, very good food, but too few staff on the day we were there - and it was busy. Not the staff’s fault at all. And probably not the owners fault either; staffing is a real problem for restaurants etc., I think, and I guess particularly so in a busy place like Bath. We all need more waiters!

Took the family for a birthday sunday lunch but we were quite disappointed overall. We were seated at 1.15 and the food arrived 90 minutes later - 4 of us ordered pies - 30 mins after ordering they said they only had 2 pies so we chose something else - some time later they then said they had miscalculated and had only one pie! The food was fairly average - small portions and cold plates. So overall not worth the money and we really didn’t enjoy the meal.

I booked a table as my Birthday meal for my family on Saturday 2nd Nov. The service was extremely slow. Food was average and by husband was sick that evening from possibly scallops not cooked correctly. We were all disappointed

We booked in advance by a wk and had friends visiting so we're keen to show them the fab view. In the past, I've eaten in the conservatory or the areas where we could enjoy the lovely view of Bath. Unfortunately we were given a table road side which was a squeeze being in the window area. After drinks & before our food arrived we moved to an adjoining table which had more room. The food was lovely, we had Sunday roast but neither chicken or lamb were on the menu..lamb explained the waitress was too costly at the moment..but chicken?! Still an enjoyable meal but perhaps when booking you need to ask for a specific area to sit?

Perfect location with amazing views. Waiter took a bit long to take our order after we were seated but after that, service was excellent. Food was delicious and arrived quickly, steak frites was a bit overcooked but still tasty. Warm and friendly ambience as well.

Lunch today,sat in conservatory..3 of us all had flat iron steaks, one medium one well done and one rare. All excellent. Good wines. Great service.

High prices, stingy portions and variable quality. Simple things like a roast potato not even done well. A beautiful setting. Lovely staff. But at the end of the day, it's about the food.

Came on a Sunday. Good food, though not anything extremely special. The meat was of good quality, and the service was great. The waiting time wasn't bad at all, and when they made a mistake in the order, they were quick to change it. Definitely is pricey though portion size is good. The desserts were great, the ice cream was of high quality, though the sticky toffee pudding was not to my liking, felt a bit bitter from being overcooked. Would recommend.

A really disappointing experience, unfortunately the staff were rude and unwelcoming. It was a busy Saturday however we were made to feel that our service wasn’t wanted and that it was an inconvenience us being there. Hopefully just a bad day, maybe we will come back on a less stressful day.

Updated review : It's been 5 years since I've been here in it's heyday. Now it's tired, the toilets stunk and the only reedming quality was the location. When we came we were told all the tables next to the window were reserved and this isn't the first time we've been told that in the morning. I sat there and watched and for a whole hour we were there no one turned up for these supposedly 'reserved' tables. Our waitress served us as if we were a piece of toilet paper stuck on someone's foot. I do not know if she had an issue with us as we weren't speaking English but I would hope a place like this was inclusive.

Went for a Sunday roast, the food was phenomenal. I ordered the veggie tart and it was a little too sweet for me personally. My mother in law had the beef and thoroughly enjoyed it whilst my partner had the vegan wellington. We will definitely be back, the views are breathtaking

Stopped for bacon sandwich with extra bacon and coffee. Just short of £15 for 3 pieces of hard over cooked extremely greasy streaky bacon on sourdough bread that i can only assume was stale as they toasted it to within an inch of its life. The crust was burnt and harder than rock. The saving grace was the fat off the extra greasy bacon softened the centre of the sandwich to a level that was soft enough to eat. It would have also been nice to have it with the coffee, not 30 minutes later. Should have waited the 30 minutes that it took to over cook 3 pieces of streaky bacon and cremate two pieces of sourdough and had a full english at the Fairfield Arms. Lesson learnt.

Really nice pub with great food! We were in the annex/conservatory bit which was a bit chilly but also I hadnt really dressed for the weather. The staff were lovely. Great views!
