My partner and I had a lovely meal here to celebrate his birthday. It was a quiet evening, so we were lucky enough to choose where to sit and eat. Naturally, we chose a table with a sea view to accompany our meal which added to the atmosphere of the evening. The service was excellent and we both felt very welcome, we received our food within 10 minutes of ordering and the portion sizes were great value for money. We will visit again the next time we are back in Combe Martin.

We were so disappointed when we stopped for drinks. This pub is in prime spot for Combe Martin Bay so we wanted to enjoy the overlook with some drinks. The wine is Jack Rabbit except for zinfandel which is another very low end wine. The additional disappointment was the price by the glass...175ml £8 & 250ml £9. To buy a bottle online the price is £3.99. I certainly wouldn't expect to be paying these prices for this low end wine. Needless to say we won't be spending our money or time here in future. They do serve a good pint of Offshore if that's your tipple.

Been going to Combe Martin for years and always have a meal or two here. Was perfect as usual. Ate on 3 separate occasions. My husband and daughter chose the vegetable lasagne, claim its the best they've ever eaten and would live the recipe to try at home. The Inn is in a perfect location, love views. The pub is in a great location - over looking the beach and with great views inside or outside The staff are so friendly and easy to chat to. The Food was lovley - i had steak ale pie and hubby had fish and chips - both plenty on the plate and tatsed great. The staff also helped me out and put a candle in my hubbys pudding for his birthday. Yes its a bit pricey but we paid more in the pack of cards the night before and the food in this place was so much better

Restaurant was clean and modern and in a good location. The food was just awful! Not just over priced because the food was crap, but expensive for any restaurant! I had a ploughman’s and it was more lettuce and a couple of bits of very sad looking cheese. The kids had microwave burgers. The staff never asked if we were enjoying our meals….now I know why! DO NOT waste your hard saved holiday money on the food here!!

Feel bad writing this as i have been to Combe Martin quite a few times, a lovely place, very relaxing, we had a great time ! Now to the pub in question (this is for the management) prices have jumped to rip off levels, portions of food have got smaller and of poorer quality, all that is wrong with England today ! location is fantastic, staff polite, prices ? Shame, real shame ! this has not put me off going to Combe Martin a beautiful place ! this pub needs to get it's act together as it USED to be a highlight of our holiday, now it feels just like a money grab !

Went there for a meal with family. Pub is in a nice position and is really nice inside. Staff were good but the food was so disappointing. After chatting about it none of us enjoyed our meal. I had steak and ale pie. It was presumably microwaved . No mash as a choice of potato and came with half a plate of salad. Was just all wrong

We visited here when looking for a nice Saturday evening meal. The location is beautiful, but that’s where it ends! The food is very cheap and basic. It was standard frozen / fried food. I had a black curly hair in my food and the staff didn’t seem to care when I raised it. Overpriced rubbish. We wouldn’t return.

As a local, I just wanted to point out that those 3 negative comments as of recent are false. Just your self-centered holiday makers expecting royalty treatment along with their £76 dun holiday as a cheap holiday. The guys over at Focsle are nice, genuine, funny people and the would be no way they'd be straight up rude for no reason. If you come to Combe Martin, come here, have a drink and watch the sunset. I work in the shop just up the road and live 2 mins away from the beach and I can confirm all of the negative comments are pretty much harassment. Oh and did I mention the food is banging? Yup actually some decent pub food too. Anyways cheers for reading, I hope my comment as a local makes you more at ease :)

I visited this pub with my family whilst still in covid restrictions, so we could only sit outside. My family were looking forward to the afternoon tea that was on offer, but being pregnant all I wanted was some chips and at this time they were not offering hot food. I mentioned to the lady that worked there I was going to get some, and at no point did she say I couldn’t bring them back to sit with the rest of my family. Once I returned a rude man came to me and said I couldn’t eat them on the premises, but my family were already enjoying their afternoon tea and drinks. I tried to explain that I had already mentioned it to the staff and then the lady proceeded to shout across the outside seating area ‘I DIDNT TELL HER SHE COULD EAT IT HERE’. I honestly just burst into tears and seeing how heavily pregnant I was, and my family were already spending good money in the pub, I just couldn’t believe they could be so mean to me, I was just so hungry. I love to support small businesses especially during covid, but honestly this business does not deserve it. Where was the compassion???

We visited this pub today as a family and wish that we never bothered. We had had such a lovely morning and just wanted a nice area to sit in the sun and have a bite to eat. We hadn't read the reviews of the focsel but we stumbled across it when going for a walk. As it was in the sun and on the beach we thought that we would sit here together. When we arrived the lady at the door wasn't approachable and made us feel very unwelcomed. I didn't say anything but wish that we had left then. You would think that this pub would want custom following the pandemic but their customer service was shocking!!! Once we sat down the tall bald miserable guy wasn't listening to what we were asking about ordering! He was talking about the NHS app that we had already scanned. We ordered afternoon tea and felt that we had to make some jokes with the lady that unwelcomed us in to ease the tension. This wasn't for us to do but felt we had to. The way we were spoken was harsh abrupt and very short. We would never return here again.I know that there will be an abrupt response following this review just like any other negative review on here. You guys need a lesson in customer service and I suggest you go back to basics. You have had time to recharge your batteries so should be happier that you are back in business. I am a nurse and haven't had time off 10 months, I didn't need this on my holiday! Do not go here!

We visited this pub mainly because of its beautiful beach side location. The Covid one way system is ludicrous. To sit outside we had to walk through the entire pub, passing tables of people, to then walk back outside, to sit down near to where we stood before entering the pub. We found one staff member rather abrupt and rude, telling us to wear masks...while we stood there in our masks. We absolutely understand rules have to be enforced but there is a way of doing that whilst maintaining basic customer service. We returned again, once, again for the location, and had a nice drink, with a superb view over the beach.

They Denied access to a disabled person due to not having their exception lanyard despite being obviously unable to wear a mask and the rest of us were all wearing our masks. It’s discriminatory, we only wanted to walk through to the outdoor seating as well, had no interest in sitting inside and showing a ‘bad example to his other customers’ as the doorman put it. Extremely upset by this. This is exactly why my disabled husband avoids going ANYWHERE to have a nice time with his family. Complete discrimination!

It is a strange world we live in at the moment, with pubs having to put restrictions and rules in to ensure safety. With all of this in mind is it still unacceptable for a rude welcome and a first impression that makes you want to walk out? A pub should still feel warm welcome and give you good customer service like we had next door at the dolphin bar. They have the same restrictions and made an atmosphere that you would like to drink in. I only wanted a couple of drinks as it was close to the beach for my and children and i would never go back there again. They need to find the balance and realise customer service is still required

This was the first time both myself and my friend had been in a pub since lock down commenced mid March. We were both a little nervous, however as we were on holiday in this charming village, we decided to bite the bullet and give it a go. We were immediately made to feel welcome and the safety measures in place were second to none. Lovely views of the little beach, whether in the sun or rain. Had a meal today, which was lovely. Crispy and tasty fish and chips and a very nice cheeseburger. The only negative would be that you get fairly flimsy wooden cutlery that breaks easily, however we were immediately provided with extra when requested.Would recommend to anyone and if I ever come back to the area will be delighted to revisit the focsle.

We recently dined here for a couple of evenings. Great location overlooking the bay. beautiful sunsets. The food is of good standard and served hot. Service was very efficient.

After reading reviews we were a little unsure whether to try this pub but so glad we did! The manager clearly explained the new rules regarding ordering and following the arrows. We had two cheese ploughmans, they came with 2 slabs of cheese, bread, 3 different pickles, a mixed salad! Lovely! Dont be put off, this business is just trying to keep customers safe and serving people in this difficult time. We will be back.

As we were staying locally in Combe Martin, we felt that this was a handy place to visit for a pint with a view. The pub itself is lovely and has great views to enjoy. Our initial impressions of the pub were positive as the lady behind the bar was very friendly and the decor was modern, with interesting old pictures of the town on the wall. We were just talking about visiting again as we were here for a few more days. But the shocking customer service during our visit let it down massively. My husband was stood at the window with our 1 year old son showing him the sea. A man, who I can only assume was the manager or owner bounded up and rudely told my husband to sit down as he was ‘obstructing’ the one way system. Not only was my husband over 2m from any other customers, the pub was very quiet and they were not in anybody’s way. If they had been, then a polite attitude and some manners and politeness wouldn’t have gone amiss. If people are genuinely not abiding by their social distancing measures then I fully support them enforcing things but as my husband and son were dutifully following them, some pleasantries and a please would have earned them more than one star! I just don’t understand why some people work in hospitality when they quite obviously don’t like dealing with people. Smile, be pleasant and try to enjoy what you do

We visited this pub while on our way to woolacombe on a very wet day. The pub has an enviable location and has a car park at the back. Inside the decor is lovely and the tables are spacious. It also allows dogs so we tucked ourselves in a corner. Personally just really disappointed with the food. The look of the pub gives a really upmarket gastro pub feel but the food is far from that. For £11 my ploughman’s was a slab of rubbery cheese, a slice of ham, cold baguette and some salad leaves. We also had the chicken burger thinking it would be nice fresh chicken breasts but it was frozen battered chicken for £11 and chicken nuggets which were the same. It’s a shame the food doesn’t reflect the look of the pub. We came away a little disappointed unfortunately.

Enjoyed a great meal here. We were surprised to have got a table as it was on a day where the “eat out to help out” scheme was in operation. We were seated in a lovely place overlooking the sea. The service was quick. The food was lovely (although I have to say if I was paying full price I may have found it quite pricey). The kids absolutely loved their meals and said they’d give the Focsle ten out of ten. Overall it was a lovely evening.

In such a beautiful spot, the owners could just trade on the view. But they don't. Despite covid rules, they've create a friendly, relaxed place with good food (and did I mention great views). Plenty of seating inside and out - outside has views over the beach. Great children's menu too. Particular shout out for the ham, chips and eggs.

We went to this place last week to have a drink and something to eat. However, we left after finishing our drinks and never even ordered any food. Despite the stunning views from the terrace we couldn’t wait to get out of this pub because of their atrocious customer service. We received the unfriendliest welcome imaginable. The man I believe to be the manager treats customers like lepers, addressing them in a rude manner, herding them around like cattle. Absolutely no respect for customers. I witnessed a family walking off because of how badly they were treated. The excuse the Foscle Inn manager give you for their unacceptable behaviour towards the customers is that they are implementing strict covid 19 measures. However, there is a way to do it. Being rude, unwelcoming, raising your voice at customers, rolling your eyes is not the way to treat those who come to your establishment to bring you business. Personally we will never step foot into this place again. We’re frequent visitors to Devon where we own a flat and have come across plenty of other places where you be welcomed and treated with respect. Alas, this is not the case at the Foscle Inn. We will be avoiding the Foscle Inn and will advise all our friends, acquaintances and social media followers to stay away from this unwelcoming, unfriendly place where customers are treated with total disrespect and made to feel like a nuisance.

Stopped off here early evening in August not expecting to be able to get a table on a Weds. Surprised to get one in the sunroom looking out over the bay, absolutely perfect for an evening meal. Proper pub grub and only too happy to eat here and give them our business in these tough times. Food arrived within 20 mins for 4 of us, was tasty and plentiful in portion size. Staff were so helpful and polite.

Have visited this restaurant for lunch two days running. The food is fresh and very tasty and served quickly. The views are great. On the second day got "Eat Out to Help Out" rates which was an extra bonus. Would definitely recommend.

If I could give zero star then that would be my rating for this place. When we arrived to Combe Martin this was the first place we spotted and wanted to try it out however we wanted to have a quick look around before heading to the pub. From our party a 6 year old needed a toilet so asked the pub if he could use it and the answer was a very unfriendly no. So after our quick look around we decided to take our money elsewhere and visited a different pub. The next day we thought we would give this pub another try and maybe this time we can see a friendly face. Safe to say we didn’t make it through the front door. Again the welcome was very unfriendly, when we asked for a table we just got a sigh and an eye roll and told that they don’t have any high chairs. Their hosting skills are somewhat lacking and honestly just rude.Working as a hospitality manager myself it just seems odd that more of an effort wasn’t made!

We visited the red barn on our first night of a 7-day break! The restaurant is clean, staff are really friendly and the food was good. We often visited for a drink during our stay and the atmosphere was always really good! Great location and worth a visit!

Just had a weekend in Lynton and almost didn't go in here due to some negative reviews we'd seen online but so glad we did. Staff are lovely, prices compared to where we live in Bradford on avon are so much cheaper and we both found we were relaxed both times we visited. No food serving but staff were quick to advise good restaurants within walking distance.
