I was in the area with 6 friends staying for a long weekend and we wanted to find somewhere that did roast dinners. We all had a carvery and it was beautiful everything was fresh and tasted incredible. The staff were so friendly would definitely recommend and we would definitely come back when in the area. Thank you : )

Had a really super meal last Sunday. We were here on holiday but if local would come back every week! Nice children’s playground outside, crayons and colouring packs. Our dog was welcome and blankets provided for them to sit on. We had a carvery and it was one do the best I’ve been too. Really lovely variety of vegetables done well. Beautiful meats and very generous serving. Pavlo the chef I think it was and Michelle made us feel welcome and they were so friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely outside and in. Good food, good ambiance, friendly staff. Visited here a few times, its beautiful outside with large seating area and separate play area. Inside welcomes you with a real fire, plentiful bar, a cozy seating bar area with original features from the old wool mill. There are a few options for eating including the bar, the restaurant/conservatory area overlooking the garden and play area and the carvery area. New chef and new menu, offering something for everyone and a special board. We tried the wild boar pie, hunters chicken, penang curry with King prawns, fish and chips, special burger and were all really tasty. Would recommend and we will be back!

Visited a couple of times during our stay. Good pub food with something for everybody and a carvery along with reduced normal menu on a Sunday. Believe it had a new chef with a new menu. We tried wild boar pie, penang curry with king prawns, hunters chicken, special burger and fish and chips. All were delicious and well done. Lovely bar area with good drinks offering. Cozy real fire. Live singer on the Saturday evening which added to the ambiance. Lovely gardens out front, we even managed to sit in the sun in October ! Restaurant area over looking the gardens with a play area. I imagine its lovely when the big glass doors are open to the elements in the summer. Friendly staff that made us feel welcome. Would definitely recommend a visit or 2. We'll be back!

The pub was spacious but busy . My first complaint was that i bought a pint of Mahou lager and a carvery as the sign on the blackboard stated i could have both for £18:50. I got charged £22.95. When i questioned why I was told i didn’t order Becks. On suggesting that this should be specified on the blackboard it fell on deaf ears . Our carvery’s were i’d call ok but the roast potatoes were uncooked and anaemic .

So disappointed with our carvery today! Husband had refund on his and now I wish I did too for myself and daughter. Feeling very sick after eating what I would say uncooked sausage (being a cook myself) the potatoes weren’t roast more like boiled with a skin on, (how can you get a roast potato so wrong?)veg mushy and all lukewarm. My daughter couldn’t eat her sausage or turkey as sausage not cooked and turkey had alot of gristle ! There was a couple pots of peas on side but weren’t allowed them as for another customer and as hubby only likes peas, carrots and broccoli asked for extra Yorkie instead but was told blatantly “no” a joke at £17 and being a carvery should be allowed as many as you like ! We try to support local but honestly would never come back. Went outside to cheer up daughter on play area where she fell off the wobbly seat thing and scuffed her back ! Not a good day at all. And now I can’t face to eat anything as the thought of any food now turns my stomach 🤢

We do come here fairly regularly as it’s normally a safe bet. Tonight was surprisingly not great. Generally a good pub with good food. Food was going to be an hours wait which we were told after paying! We didn’t mind as it’s normally good and we weren’t in any hurry and there was some decent live music on. However when the food turned up we were very underwhelmed. I had Hunters Chicken. Clearly not freshly made as it was not warm. Partner had a “Prawn Spaghetti dish.” I believe the chef may have forgotten to put prawns in it. Son had a kids meal with cold chips and hard peas. We’re planning on coming to the carvery for the next day but after also reading other reviews we will book at the Manor House in Georgeham.

What a lovely meal at the old mill after a big day out with the kids!! I ordered the mixed grill while my wife ordered the chicken platter. The meat was cooked to perfection, only issue was a long wait time, but this was understood as it was busy, it was definitely worth the wait. The portion sizes were very generous just a great meal all round! Not to mention how good the staff were, the coloured hair girl (pink) was great with the kids they loved her! I would recommend to anyone, Thankyou old mill!

We were really disappointed with our visit to this place. We had planned to visit for some time and were told over the phone we could not book in advance on a Sunday, we had to just turn up & they would get us seated. This is not the easiest for us having children with additional needs, but we thought we would give it a go. When we arrived it was very busy but we managed to find a table to sit down eventually. We noticed there were other tables reserved and that there was a booking for 41 due in. We went up to pay and get drinks only to be told that we couldn’t have the carvery as the 41 were due in and they needed to serve them first. We run the risk of there being nothing left after they have eaten. We thought this was very poor service considering we were there before them & surely you would accommodate a table of 7 first but they weren’t interested. Offered us something off the main menu but told the wait time was going to be long, by which point my children were very hungry, upset as they had waited so long already. Big disappointment. Carvery looked quite nice as it came through but wouldn’t return due to how the staff made us feel that day & the fact they only accepted bookings for large parties. Not very accommodating for special needs families.

We visited the Old Mill on Sunday 18th around 4pm whilst staying at The Golden Coast Holiday Village. My wife and two grandchildren were looking forward to a lovely meal in a very olde worlde looking pub/restaurant. Sat in the conservatory area as it overlooks the children's play area. I asked for the menu but was told only the carvery and children's menu was available. So, kids chose crispy chicken bites with beans and fries and my wife and i chose the carvery (£16.75 per adult). Kids enjoyed their choice which is more than i can say about our choice. On walking upstairs to the carvery section we saw beef, turkey and gammon. The beef looked extra pink/rare so we avoided that and plumped for the turkey and gammon. There was a good variety of vegetables (no peas) so we chose roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli and parsnip. There was only one choice of gravy and that was beef gravy and various sauces. My suspicions were raised when i first picked up a plate as i had to dig down a few plates to find a warm one. Upon sitting down i tucked in to the much awaited fare , only to be very disappointed. Best thing first, the turkey was edible. However, the gammon was luke warm and chewy! Just not pleasant to eat. The roast potatoes were hard. The carrots i couldn't cut with my knife and the same for the parsnip. The broccoli was cooked but cold. The gravy was also luke warm. All in all, not a great experience. Infact, it makes an average Toby Carvery seem like a 5 star restaurant!! At nearly £17 this is not acceptable. And for any vegetarian out there, the only choice i could see would of been the vegetables from the carvery!! To the management of The Old Mill, you need to take a long hard look at your Sunday offering and how the food is prepared. It's simply not an acceptable standard. I appreciate that everyone's tastes and expectations are different but i have tried to be as honest as possible with this review. So , come on The Old Mill , get your act together and serve up some completely edible home cooked food.

Meal took over an hour to come carbonara was watery, had no flavour, garlic bread undercooked and was served to us cold. Sticky toffee pudding was forgotten about, but was nice once it arrived although was clearly rushed, there was clearly also a lack of staff, tables were very sticky too and a wasp flying around the table. Hunter’s chicken was also nice but cold. glad we were given a refund due to this situation, and it was extremely busy with many people experiencing the same. On the positive side, the Sunday carvery was SO GOOD! Well worth the money, amazing quality and quantity as well as cooked fresh, lots of options and friendly staff around and nice atmosphere.

Invited parents over for a meal before using the park facilities. Had all intention of a quick meal, with plenty of time after to use said facilities however the meal which we were told would be 45 minute wait (fair enough) turned into a 2 hour wait! Would have been faster to drive into Ilfracombe for dinner, as I am a local. My poor dad was falling asleep at the table waiting for his food - not a nice experience for them considering I’d invited them over for a meal. No offer of drinks to say sorry. The 2 hour wait was not worth the £60 we paid and there was a table upstairs who waited longer!

While on a family holiday, 2 of us decided to have a quick meal here. Turned out to be an hour wait for our mixed grills. When they finally turned up.. our medium rare steaks were so well done, you could use them as shoe horns! Sausages were also overcooked. Chips were rank. Eggs weren’t appealing either. We both went for the “surf n turf” our meals for an extra £2 each (3 king prawns each) They weren’t even king prawns, no bigger than normal ones. So avoid any upgrades. In fact avoid the food entirely, especially during busy periods. Staff were ok. No problems there. Apart from when we complained, they didn’t seem to care much, or even offer a discount or alternative. Will never go back.

Sticky tables, feral children and more dogs than humans. Rip off burger with cremated chicken priced at £11 is absurd. We were staying at the Golden coast village so used the Old Mill on three occasions in the end. We had eaten from the entertainment centre on site and although the food was good it was just what you would expect as the kitchen was very busy during the evening, but as a foodie I can honestly say the food in the Old Mill was in a different league portion size quality of food and presentation was fantastic. So what if you find you have a longer wait sometimes for your order. (we didn't by the way), it was definatley worth it if you want your food that quick go to a Mc Donalds or something like that don't leave negative feedback based on that alone. 07/07/2024 had a carvery at around 18:45, had beef and turkey with a sausage in blanket, yorkshire pub, roast spuds and parsnip and various vegetables... By far the best bit of the meal was the cauliflower cheese, eaten in some top restaurants and country pubs across the country and never tasted anything as good as that. The beef could have been cut with a spoon and coupled with the cauliflower cheese, it tasted heavenly, like angels pooing on your tongue. I was asked by our group if I would like to come back for a week next year, the carvery sealed the deal. If management could retain the staff that were responsible for the carvery with a pay rise and bonus that would be good. Another gem found in this region, the staff from reception to the maintenance man, security to the bar staff were all so polite and helpful, a credit to their place of work. Its rare for me to not find something to complain about, so I'm giving Verdant Golden Coast a 10/10. See you next year. Grab yourself an oval 🍽, you won't fit it all on there...😉👌🏼

Probably the worst carvery in north Devon at the moment. Veg was awful, roast potatoes are the worst possible, and no options for meat as they had run out of beef this was at 3pm Although they advertise it until 7pm. The menu proudly states the local suppliers they use, Sausage & mash £10.50, with mass produced brake bros style sausages, and cold gravy, my husbands mixed grill, all was over cooked and black pudding stone cold. No cutlery, napkins, sauces, salt & pepper. 90% of the tables were full with empty plates and glasses with lots of members of staff walking by. We commented to the waitress who looked like she was going to cry, we told her it wasn’t her fault, clearly had alot of complaints. Sadly won’t be re visiting.

So I’m a local and been coming here on and off for years. I’ve seen a huge difference in the place over the last 6 months.! Waiting time for food was around 45 minutes.! Which in a quiet pub is a long time.. Tonight’s experience was shocking..!! I was on the understanding that despite 2 male members of staff stood behind the bar laughing and giggling that the clearing of the place was left and not bothered about.! Plates and sauces everywhere. Napkins all over the floor, to top it off I believe I was being served by a minor.(17 year old). Surely that’s illegal? 🤔 This was heard in a conversation amongst staff.. (sonni,? Sam? ) can’t remember the name but I was shocked at this. The age showed to how the behaviour was most of the night. I will be looking at an alternative place to drink as this whole experience was shocking. Sorry for the review but I need to be honest. Not all negative as the food was good quality and very well cooked. Compliments to the chef…. ☀️

We visited The Old Mill this week as a family of 4, whilst on holiday. We were left feeling disappointed by the wait for food and the actual food itself. I also thought the price was a bit steep, top end of what you’d want to pay for ‘cheap and cheerful’ pub food. After a 40-50 minute wait (luckily our children played out side on their lovely play equipment for most of the wait) for 2 kids chicken bites, carbonara and garlic bread, we were all disappointed by what was delivered. I had to check with the waiter that what I was handed was actually carbonara and not something else. It tasted like the eggs had scrambled, and was definitely not creamy in the slightest. The garlic bread was just ciabatta with garlic mayo on the side, which in my opinion was the tastiest thing of the meal. Our daughters’ chicken bites were slightly burnt and dry. One we had with seasonal veg which came in quite a vinegary sauce/dressing, which I don’t think goes with a kids meal, as I struggled to enjoy it. I couldn’t voice our dislike as no one checked back with us the whole time we were there. Overall our experience wasn’t great, which is unfortunate as the location, atmosphere and outside seating/play equipment are really lovely.

My wife had Pie of the Day Turkey in a White Wine sauce wit Mash again shocking the sauce had a zero taste of wine intact the pie was entirely tasteless the mash was cooked from frozen with no seasoning. The lad who collected our plates asked if we were done we said never really started it was tasteless and disgusting, he took our plates without a word of apology or I will tell chef (I hope he did cause he does not deserve that title) we walked out disgusted and will never walk in again. We are regular visitors to the area and have ate here before. Avoid at all cost go to Ship Aground instead or anywhere. God knows what the mother site of Golden Coast food is like I won't be trying it during our stay.

A lovely 'proper' pub with excellent service, a good range of drinks and delicious food. This pub is dog friendly (downstairs) and offers entertainment a few nights a week (there was a singer on the Wednesday and a very good pub quiz on the Thursday nights). A special mention to Scott behind the bar who provided an outstanding service throughout our stay.

The food was awful. Even the chips which I don’t think you can go wrong with chips but they did go wrong. Food took ages but we expected that as it was busy. Brilliant quiz night but the food lets the place down. This is the second time we’ve given the food the chance but both times disappointed and it wasn’t cheap.

Overpriced and unpalatable. Paid £18.95 for two soggy veg sausages. Tried to charge me two pound more than the meat and had argue with two people to get the price down. All the trimmings were cold and flavourless. The only good part of that roast was the Yorkshire pudding. I should have asked for a refund. Eat here at your own peril.

ate here twice whilst at staying at Golden Coast First time was for an evening meal, and the food was lovely. Whilst there we saw that they had a carvery on the Sunday, so we went back for that mid afternoon on the Sunday, and again the food couldnt be faulted. service was also good at the bar and the venue itself has a nice oldy worldy feel about it. Would recommend to anyone that was in the area

Great pub on the edge of the holiday park, nice, clean and spacious - my only gripe was the food - my wife ordered the chicken basket which was £15.49 - it was basically frozen Iceland food, we weren't expecting the finest chicken in the land but at £15.49 it wasn't worth it. Please do visit this bar, it's well worth it and a change from the on site bar / food . Staff were great, and even happy to discuss our concern on the food.

Whist staying at Golden Coast we tried this pub. The place was clean and the staff friendly. However, the food was of poor quality, portions small, poorly presented and luke warm. The "catch of the day" fish was cod straight out of the freezer. The chips were low quality catering ones. My chicken pie was served in a pie dish covered in flaky pastry that had lost its puff. It was basically a few pieces of chicken in a sauce which was runny like gravy. This was served with a lump of mashed potatoes and peas. In fact I think all the meals were served with peas.

Visited for the Sunday carvery recently. Staff were brilliant and very helpful. Food was good and well prepared. No complaints really. Simple pub grub, so if you are after a simple meal whilst at the Golden Coast holiday park, then why not

Had an appalling experience here on our last night. Went out as a family only to be told that they had run out of 4 main dishes on a menu that has perhaps 20. Ordered the food for it to take almost an hour. I had ordered 2 chicken Caesar salads... a sausage and mash and a burger. As soon as the salad turned up, I was absolutely disgusted 😒 😤 £32 for 2 dishes that had iceberg lettuce, a couple of croutons, and half of a chicken brest shared between the two. I wished I'd taken pictures. The rest of the food had been reheated in a fryer, and the gravey made from granuals, which was very lumpy. Complained to the manager who reimbursed the salads. A staff member took them away, and so 2 of us were now sat with no food at 9 pm at night after waiting an hour for a substandard 4 meals. It could be an absolutely amazing pub, but the lack of care and attention to the menu and execution by whoever is in the kitchen pretending to be a chef has let this down massively. I would not eat here again.

Very loud music. Too loud indoors and out. Bar area smelled a bit like vomit. Otherwise could be a nice pub.

Food was ok, bit waiting time was long. We we're told 45-60 mins when ordering and it was over 80 mins. The playground was our saving grace to keep the kids occupied during the wait. Staff were nice

Had a carvery here on a Sunday afternoon. Service at the bar was a bit hit and miss, friendly enough but missed a couple of drinks orders, proper job cask was good. TV in the veranda was very loud, and I had to ask for it to be turned down to enjoy our meal. The carvery was good, the meat was brilliant, the beef was very tender and just melted, some of the veg was a bit dry but edible. The guy serving did apologise and was putting fresh veg out as quick as he could, he did mention it had been quieter that day. All in all, it's not bad, really, for a type of site pub. Nice gardens and play area as well for the kids.

Not what it used to be! We used to love this pub when we visited the Golden Coast when it was the Billy beachball franchise. But it's gone so downhill now. Only about 10 options on the menu. None of them overly appealing. My daughter wanted fishcake, which came with poached egg and salad... For £14... Told of we wanted to change egg and salad for chips we would have to order chips! For £3.50! So we swiftly left and went back up to the clubhouse. The music was also blaring above out heads. Not a nice atmosphere

We have eaten here several Times before and, although basic, some of the meals have been good. When we went this week, the menu options were far fewer than previously with much less choice. We were a family group and as well as kids meals we chose sausages and pork chops as we were pleased to see local butchers being used. Such a shame the same care wasn’t taken over cooking the items. The pork chops were overdone and like leather whilst also being liuke warm at best (as were all the meals) the mash tasted like gloopy instant mash and the choice of veg for all meals was…. Peas. The chips were good though! Such a shame as we have previously had much better experiences and it has such a good park for the kids. Sadly we won’t be eating there again and definitely wouldn’t recommend it for food.

We arrived found a table, we knew there was going to be a 35 minute wait on food which was fine. The children were happy playing in the park. 1 hour 10 minutes still no food and no explanation, other tables around us were saying the same thing. People that we had watched come in after us we’re getting served. Whilst I accept that this happens and mistakes are made it’s how staff deal with it that makes the difference. The staff couldn’t care less and nobody seems to know what is going on and how long the food will actually take to arrive. Having read some of the other recent reviews we should have known better. We definitely won’t be returning as customer care is non existent.

My expectations were high given the food prices were very high, but sadly the food was bland and less than average. Sorry but this is an honest reflection of mine and my families experience.

Great pub and restaurant unfortunately not serving Sunday lunch. Restaurant section was closed on our visit. The excellent food and facilities are way ahead of the floor staff and table service. On our visit, the bar was excessively noisy with rowdy locals.

Call in for a beer and snack, the place just felt tired and a bit run down. Covid protection still up all around the bar, which made it very impersonal in our view. Decided not to eat there.

Just had a weekend in Lynton and almost didn't go in here due to some negative reviews we'd seen online but so glad we did. Staff are lovely, prices compared to where we live in Bradford on avon are so much cheaper and we both found we were relaxed both times we visited. No food serving but staff were quick to advise good restaurants within walking distance.
