I know you get what you pay for, ......C'mon people, 9 chips, 3 traumatised sausages (I presume they 'Were' sausages at one point. Hard to tell as they'd obviously been Nuked several thousand times) Pretty sure the beans were a job lot purchased on Wish...

Stopped for breakfast, not the best. Reviewed here before and it has not improved. Service terrible, empty plates waiting for 40 mins despite staff walking past and it not being busy. Really not worth going here, I said last time only 1 spoons in Barnstaple and it is the Panniers.

Ordered a curry . Good taste and good value. Good cheap palazzo coffee also

This place is terrible, we ordered food an hour and a half before we actually got it, when the food came out it was cold and unbearable to eat. Also the front of house team were awful too, with that being said, they brought the food out withought knives and forks. Half way through eating the food, one of the members of front of house starting taking the plates away and cleaning the tables on top of giving all of us weird looks, overall I am not happy with the service and I would not recommend this place to anyone

The food is ok and the service is relatively quick however an employee called me fat and I felt offended. if that’s how the staff treat its customers, I’m better off going to the panniers as they treat their customers with value

Popped in for breakfast, it was decent, hot and not long of a wait.

Used app to order drinks on app never arrived, told 4 eaiters they said they'd follow up, never did. Stayed at table to avoid missing them, then attended bar and bar staff would not help, and told us to go off and enjoy rest of evening. Won't be using that again.

The Watergate is close to our hotel (the excellent Royal & Fortescue), so I popped in here on a couple of evenings for a drink after a day out and before dinner. It is a busy place, kept pretty tidy when I have been in. The staff are friendly, and there is a decent selection of real cider - though I would prefer it not to be chilled.

Saw in the close of 2023 and the start of 2024 and what an establishment it was. I’m an older man but this felt like reliving my youth. The beers were flowing and the crowd was bouncing. Well worth the £2 I paid to get in. Peter

Watch out for the bouncer woman(?) with bad teeth, questioned my ID even though it is clearly real. Eventually they figured out my ID was real and let me carry on drinking but still had to kick me out at 9 apparently? Makes no sense. Had to go back home to get my passport just to enjoy a night with my friends. Eventually they let me in as they realised i’m actually 20. Then about half an hour before they closed they all started asking us to “get ready to leave”. Saying this to us and only our group. She’s very clearly hoping for the pay raise and honestly the service by the bouncers was disgusting and embarrassing.

I recommend the very classical pepperoni pizza with large coke

Started coming here for a spot to use my laptop for work and some breakfast honestly didn’t expect much from experiences from other spoons in the area… but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was good quality and hot! Will definitely be making this a regular spot. I will give a shout out to the young lady (think she’s a manager) that’s on most weekday mornings and the tall gent. They are always smiling and it’s good to see staff having a laugh and working with a smile at that time of morning. Clearly enjoy their jobs!

what's there not to like? nice decor, Clean, nice staff, good atmosphere, never had a bad meal here have had breakfast and dinner here before and the coffee is nice.

Great experience, good food and cheap prices

I was very rudely informed that I need ID to be allowed to eat in spoons… bear in mind it was 11:30 and no alcohol had been ordered… I have never been asked for ID nor do I carry one round with me. I had already ordered food and the worker who told me I need to bring ID to be served next time… his whole demeanour and tone was patronising and utterly rude. Spoons need to work on their staff as they are so rude! I also might add that they used to accept my college id card, however apparently according to this guy 8th November 2023 they changed their rules and it has to be a drivers licence or provisional and that’s all he would accept. There are no signs saying this apart from the challenge 25 for alcohol, and the whole interaction with him ruined my meal and set a very sour tone. He needs to work on how he talks to people as it is very demeaning.

The staff should take a course for politeness. Mediocre food with prices that seem to go up every couple of weeks. Cheaply priced drinks so that's a bonus. Dirty toilets which smell, they must be cleaned once a week. Saturday nights seem to bring out the lairy ones ,we saw alot of digits happening with the door staff just watching. Overall it was a little better than the last time I visited. Not recommended for a quiet night out.

Typical Wetherspoons. I have noticed that prices have increased whilst portion size has reduced in a number of cases. Pity the pub does still not accept dogs even outside so we do not go very often.

Called in for a quick beverage. Quick service nice atmosphere.

There were eight of us ranging in ages from 8 to 68, including vegetarians, meat eaters, and gluten intolerances. There were choices for all of us and the food and service were good. We were very happy.

Exactly what you expect. Great value for good food. Nothing spectacular but that's not what you come for. Service was extremely quick.

Very reasonable prices. We were a family of 5 adults and children, and we paid less than £7.50 per head on average for a meal and a drink each. Food isn't exceptional, and my curry was a bit on the cool side, but at these prices, it's hard to complain.

Got the food order completely wrong refused to sort it or refund it staff very rude so we didn't bother left without having any food or drink that we payed for unfortunately very disappointed won't be going back.

Pop in here quite frequently for a meal, can guarantee you know what you're getting at a "spoons" but don't expect luke warm food served at break neck speed 😳 WHY ???I'm more then happy to wait and it's slightly annoying when one male member of staff appears to have to do everything at a trot as he shot passed our table saying "everything OK guys" and jogged on, why ask you didn't even stop for our reply and chances are you're going to cause an accident at that speed by knocking someone over, I personally do not want to be served by someone in such a blind rush. Nothing will change but just be warned you could be mowed down by a staff member delivering your meal to your table before you have a chance to leave the bar after ordering.

We come here a lot,but its a shame its gone downhill lately.Almost empty last week at lunchtime,but the place was grubby,food on the floor,the "chef" came out looking pretty scruffy.Food gone downhill,over microwaved chicken making it sooo dry,garnish looks like someting out of the bin,and the person behind the bar with glasses and tatty hair,not hygenic, more interested in looking at herself than the customers.No customer service skills whatso ever unless your a man.Wont be going back anytime soon

Very disappointed. It was my partners birthday 65th we were hoping for an upgrade. Our room was very small, the bathroom wasn't even a one star. The breakfast was cold and by 9.15 most food was running out. Restaurant staff seen twice on there mobiles. As for my sisters room at the end of are corridor didn't get cleaned for four nights. She had to ask for loo rolls, and bins to be emptied. Went to use the reception loo and found the cleaner having a bump. Didn't like the staff using the left as it was very small.

Slow service staff seemed more focused on chatting to each other than serving. Burger buns were black and waited that long it was pointless to send back as my kids were hungry. Wouldn’t recommend

Not to bad to eat here, Had a steak here a few weeks ago it was good value for money but the cook not chef as I don’t think they have any only cooks and pingers need to learn how to cook a steak, why ask how you like it and then cook it differently? My Medium to well was rare to medium,

Visited 01/09/2023 Much better than expected, we all really enjoyed our food and commented on how well it was cooked and good portion sizes. Very good value with the drinks included. Toilets were clean too. Overall much better than other Wetherspoons’ experiences we’ve had!

3 of us went, a very overwhelmingly busy place, but its a spoons so of course it is. People came in after us and were served before us, had to go ask where our food was. Tattooed waiter was nice and polite. Great food however, just over £30 for all of us. For a walk in place its good.

Standard wetherspoons, really. My brother had to ask them to add the missing bacon to his eggs benedict and then to find some cutlery before he could eat. Just someone having a bad day, I guess. Breakfast good.

Usual great value and service you’d expect from a Wetherspoons

Food is simple and inexpensive. Beer was good and service quick.

A good place to rendezvous with friends and catch up. The food and drinks were reasonably priced and good value. After placing our order food was quick to arrive. We would be happy to return for another meal.

The tables are always clean!! ;) The quick exit through the emergency exit when one is tired is also an excellent service, cheers bouncers :)

One of the better Wetherspoons regarding service. Building isn't as historic as most but still has lots of space. It does turn into a nightclub late on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Came in here after a long walk along the Tarka trail. Food and service were excellent . Friendly staff and got the 2-5pm deal fish and chips for 2 plus a drink just over £17 .. what’s not to like ???

What a difference from the Foxley Hatch, plenty of space here, food was excellent and the team leader on the day was welcoming, polite and approachable.

Good Wetherspoons pub. Currently getting a bit of a face-lift (Apr 2022). Has manager specials occasionally. Usually a good range of real ales.

Huge Spoons with friendly staff

Went today for a mixed grill the lamb wouldn't have been suitable for dog food. Uncooked with end trails in it, peas rock hard and missing the onion rings.

Friendly staff and lovely food. However, toilet was blocked and menu could have been cleaner.

Deceptively large Spoons. Ideally sited next to the river.

Made to feel unwelcome, understand that they don't allow dogs, but my partner was even told she couldn't stand on the pavement outside the place, waitress complained when I asked could they clear glasses from the table, started to be served by one woman, she quickly said she had a table issue, and went to deal with it, when she returned she didn't carry on serving me, just went about putting away some glasses, I told the manager this and he apologised, the guy on the bar with the tattoos looked after me though, he was ok. As my partner was banished, as a show of solidarity, myself and my kids took all our food and went and sat on the grass verge to eat, when we finished and were leaving, the manager came out and started shouting that we had littered by leaving our plates there, there was no litter, and any loose things like serviettes were held on the plates with cutlery so there was no litter blowing about, he said he had "bent over backwards" for us, he actually did nothing, and when I challenged him over the poor service, he informed me that I was "going on pubwatch, and I would be banned from all pubs in North Devon" I wouldn't go there again, very poorly run, and manager has a really rubbish attitude, and we paid over £60 for this! Only good thing was the guy with the tattoos, really friendly and apologetic for my being ignored by the other bar staff! 1/10 rating, and that's being generous!

Cheap compared to the hotel. typical wetherspoons wipe your feet on the way out.

For the price its a no brainer. Lovely cuppa coffee to go with the Breakfast. My regular weekly trip.

After cycling the Tarka Trail from Meeth, this stop off was much need for a couple of refreshing pints to cool down. Seemed to be a lack of charging points, like most Wetherspoons have, but found a table near the bar and all was good. Was quite busy when I arrived and I heard a waitress say there was a 30 minute wait for food.

Lovely atmosphere and relatively quick service. We visited for breakfast which was decently made. I don't think the value was great considering the quality and quantity however the variety of options made it worthwhile.

Very large restaurant first time here, staff great, very tidy. Toilets are a fair trek as are all wetherspoons but Toilets were clean and well designed.

A very limited menu due to some of the kitchen cookers not working, This is an ongoing problem they have had for 6 weeks. For a big company this is shocking customer service, please post information by the front door so people don't waste their time even coming in. People were coming in and leaving when realising there was little choice.Hence it was very quiet.

Stingy helpings, one meal the chicken was very grease ,im aware its supposed to be cheap but that doesn't mean its poor quality

It's a Wetherspoon , you'll probably get all your food. Big location, nice staff, and in a good place. They forgot my mushrooms in my breakfast but I wasn't going to eat them anyways so I didn't complain.

Horrible! Chip oil must be from Victorian times and leaves an aftertaste for hours later after you eat their chips, I'm not usually picky over food but would recommend elsewhere in this instance

Was a really lovely little atmosphere in there! The staff looked swept off they’re feet at one point but for a Wetherspoons the food was boiling hot and the burger was probably the best I’ve had from a spoons the bun was hot and buttery like and just everything seemed fresh VERY rare from a spoons, even the veg in the burger was crisp! Far better then that old stinker up the road panniers.

They had run out of a lot of food on the menu.

Pretty good for a spoons. Food has always been OK. Went on the Thursday before good Friday and the atmosphere wasn't pleasant, the loud music seemed to make things worse and the security seemed very busy. Every other visit has been OK however

Excellent food/service/atmosphere

We come here at lease once a month, today was not great we didn’t eat much as food was very disappointing, we had three meal and it’s worst I’ve ever had. I know fridges went down so limited food. It was cold, very greasy and dry chicken and chips was soggy, garlic bread was very cold. Curry was cold. Very very disappointing. Sorry for comment but not going back now for a bit.

Nice staff,, food served quickly clean and tidy tables

Great service, one lady staff member seemed to be everywhere, from serving, to clearing and cleaning tables, staff were excellent, my food, large breakfast, really good except my eggs were missing but quickly rectified. I don't go out often because of health problems, outside space a real bonus.
