We were looking forward to ‘Pie Night’ for a long time, since our friends had been previously. We were not disappointed! The pies were absolutely delicious - especially my fish pie. Out of this world good and hands down the BEST most scrumptious fish pie I’ve ever had. Extremely generous portions, hot veggies, yummy desserts and wonderful service. Really enjoyed ourselves and can’t wait to go back for more.

We had tried to go earlier in the week but was full so booked for the Friday of that week instead. Our orders for mains were taken, but we were really surprised that they came out within 5 minutes of ordering. Homemade pie & fish n chips. The couple in front of us who were already there when we arrived watched our food come out and looked round at us ... I'm now thinking that maybe the food given to us should have been their food, as they had ordered before us and had to wait another ten minutes or so before theirs came out - and they were exactly the same as what we had ordered !!! I had ordered veg and chips with my meal but these didn't come out and we had to get up a couple of times to ask someone for them. Apart from this the food we had was really nice, generous portions too so no room for dessert.

Have just arrived home from a lovely long weekend at the Talbot Arms. The B&B accommodation is excellent, the chalets are modern, clean and peaceful. The walk into Lyme Regis along the river path is lovely. We had the full English breakfast both mornings - it was delicious and nothing too much trouble (including finding me a pot of marmalade) Thank you Wendy & Steve, we will be back !

I visited the Talbot Arms with my elderly mum after a short walk up the River Lym. It was clearly a very busy Sunday and the team were getting ready for a second sitting in the impressive looking carvery. Nonetheless we were made very welcome, I enjoyed a pint of Otter bitter. We were served generous slices of a delicious carrot cake and gluten free brownie. Thank you for being so accommodating! Would highly recommend.

Phoned ahead to check menu as I am wheat intolerant. Friendly landlady let me know that everything is made fresh in their kitchen and gave me some of the choices that would be available. Popular pub and excellent food. Family run business who all care about service and quality food. I had fish pie which had plenty of fish and prawns topped with mashed potato served with seasonal vegetables and husband had salmon with vegetable risotto which was also beautifully presented, generous portion and delicious! Their desserts looked amazing but sadly we just couldn't manage one! Definitely recommend.

This charming Pub serves a roast dinner which apparently falls into the 'carvery' category, but it is much, much better and more like the Sunday roast that my Mum used to cook. Succulent roast beef (or other meats) served with a huge range of vegetables are all cooked to perfection. I found it superior to any other pub 'carvery' and much better value too. The chef certainly knows how to make excellent gravy and so full marks all round - 'I'll give it FIVE' if you're old enough to remember! Next time I'm going for B & B as I can't wait to try out the Full English here.

Made to feel extremely welcome on arrival and throughout our stay by owners Steve & Wendy and their staff. Meals were flavoursome & home cooked, always a bonus. Rooms were clean and comfortable and being able to access during the day (own front door), ideal. Walk into Lyme Regis beside River Lim was scenic and meant no need to find car parks! We had a lovely weekend in Lyme Regis and stayed at the Talbot Arms...which was absolutely perfect! The rooms were spotless and extremely well maintained - guest access from the car park made coming and going very easy. There was a great selection for breakfast and the owners were so lovely to chat to - friendly, welcoming and had some great advice about the area. Cannot recommend highly enough for a very pleasant stay in a great location to explore the local area - just a 5-10 minute drive to the seafront. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the evening meals/restaurant as we were spoilt for choice in Lyme and our stay wasn't long enough. But we'll definitely book again and already waiting to return!

Visited on a Saturday afternoon and the pub inside was empty with a few people enjoying the sun outside. Good choice of Otter Brewery beer. Tables outside had lots of old cups still on tables but to be fair the barman did clean the tables. Pub on the main road but noise ok. Lacking in atmosphere due to the low numbers. Didn’t try the food. Would go back if staying at the campsite locally.

A lovely little pub. By a stream that you walk over from the car park to access the garden. I went inside and upstairs to the dining room, which is a nice size, not tiny, but not too big. I ordered a delicious ribeye steak - so tasty, and really tender - and an amazing dessert, Bailey’s bread and butter pudding with custard. Proper comfort food! Service was quick and friendly, and I wouldn’t hesitate to return when I am back down there.

On entering the pub we were not overwhelmed with the decor and wondered if we had done the right thing to eat here. All I can say is what a fantastic find this place is. Amazing home cooked food at reasonable prices. All the adults in our party had different main courses and each were delighted with what we ate. Excellent carvery with the beef and turkey cooked perfectly. The veg was also great but I was disappointed with the Yorkshire pudding. Good selection of guns in a well stocked bar. Whitley Neill served in a straight glass where a bowl would have been better. Overall very good.

As we were staying in an air BnB just up the road we decided to book a table here for the evening. My boyfriend called and booked. About a minute later they called back to tell us it was pie and pudding night, asking if that was okay. When we arrived we were served drinks by an unfriendly barman, he told us our table number and to come up to the bar when we wanted to order. The menu was very uninspiring... three choices and as a vegetarian I had only one option (luckily I’m not fussy so the vegetable pie was fine). The food came promptly and was delicious. We ordered our puddings, which were forgotten about meaning my boyfriend had to go up to the bar and ask where they were after 30 minutes of waiting- when they arrived they were fine. Overall it wasn’t a great experience. I felt that the staff just weren’t very friendly and the menu was so limited which let them down. I wouldn’t go again.

We called in to see if it was a good place to have a nice meal, a few drinks and take our dog.

A gem of a place with a really simple but effective menu. We had our starters or prawn cocktails and pate and these were huge and very well presented. We all opted for the steak and this was done to perfection. One of the best steaks I've had outside of a steak house and this runs that close!! Sides on onion rings and mushrooms were equally lovely.

We spent a mid week night here and were very pleasantly surprised. We were escorted to our room by a very pleasant young lady and by the time we got back to the restaurant they had prepared me some Gluten Free gravy for my carvery. The meal was delicious and Steve couldn't have done more for us. The rooms were compact but very clean, comfy bed and everything we needed. I would definitely go back.

Been to Hughsies again for a few meals while on holiday in Seaton. Lovely breakfasts freshly cooked and good service. Lunches were a more difficult choice as there was a good selection and I know from experience that whatever we chose would be delicious. I have seen a number of negative comments on here but my husband and I have never had a problem. Nice clean cafe and good fresh cooked meals. We will be back again next year.

Atmosphere wasn't great as the weather was extremely wet and windy so not many customers. Food was good a the staff friendly and understanding.

Not to be missed, this pub restaurant is fabulous. I’m of the understanding that it is under new ownership. The food is delicious and well cooked and presented. The chef here has a good eye for detail. Even the children’s food is freshly cooked and the sizes are proportionate. There is a great children’s play area outside with lots of activities for them to enjoy. I played naughts and crosses there with my son. It is located on the road between Sidmouth and Exmouth and well signposted. It’s about 10 minutes drive from the M5 junction at Exeter. It’s also good value for money and a great for families.
