My weekly day out took me a little further from home than usual. Train to Exeter and bus to Seaton for a day on the tramway. Stopped off here for lunch. Not busy, just as I like it. I had gammon, eggs, chips and peas. Portion size was generous, and importantly, it was hot when it arrived. Prompt service from the lady behind the bar.

This is a nice freehold freehouse which is in need of some refurbishment especially the exterior. However this is a great pub for the local trade, you can’t help but think that the trade is held together by the bar manage(Steve) who is everything a public, an should be, friendly, welcoming and resourceful

I'm so glad we didn't pay for the food. We had won tickets in a raffle. Hubby had roast beef, which was cut so thin, it was transparent. I had ork which looked like they'd taken bacon slices and cooked them in gravy. The stuffing was a mount of wet stuff filled with cooked onion. I honestly have had a eorse roast dinner! We won't be going in again.

As our accommodation was close by we visited the White Hart a number of times over the weekend. On Sunday we went for the roast dinner which was brilliant, beef cooked to perfection, pork was lovely. Being a Londoner the drinks prices were more than welcoming. Proper country pub feel with a big open fire place, wellington boots and lovely grub.

Food was as bad as last year!!! Hoped to try in 2024 and there would have been an improvement on last year but sadly not,. Food was cold, peas still frozen and my mother had to send her fish back as it was still raw in the middle. Took ages to get served, staff too busy eating chips in the kitchen when pub was packed. Still very dated in need of a good lick of paint, change of carpet and curtains. Ladies lock in the toilet still broken the same as last year. This place wouldn’t cost much to do it up, your sat on a gold mine why not use it to its potential. Obviously lacking someone with a business head on their shoulders unless they are that clever to run it into the ground and get it redeveloped in the future.

We had fresh crab sandwiches on brown bread sat in the marque. This was in November so during the summer one can imagine it to be a thriving cafe. They also advertise Lobster Wednesday. Access to the beach is easy, parking is available but typically overpriced considering the pot holes.

Edit: 2023. I gave 4 stars four years ago and have recently moved back to the area. I'm basing the new 5 stars on the people who staff the pub (all friendly, happy and polite), the selection of beer (although not on tap the Old Peculiar was fantastic!) and also the food. I recently took my boy there where he had fish and chips, and said it was great but I, on the other hand, decided on liver and bacon and felt it was the best I'd eaten! It was tender, flavoursome and generous and I even dreamt about it that night 🤣. Keep up the great work guys! A proper pub, with friendly dogs who add to the family atmosphere. Lovely!

We had a really warm welcome from the landlady who had done a fab job decorating the pub for Halloween. She was more than happy to show our children the various spooky exhihits which they loved! £25.60 for two sandwiches, two pints and a packet of crisps. Of course, you don't usually look up on Tripadvisor when you want to stop off for a lunchtime pint and sandwich. Perhaps we should have. The beer that my husband wanted was 'not too good' apparently, so he had another which was cloudy. This, we could have coped with. But there was more. I asked for a cheese and onion baguette and a ham sandwich. My husband ordered his with brown bread and I was asked if I wanted white or brown. Since it was a baguette, I requested white. When the food arrived, mine was sandwiches. I said that I'd requested a baguette - if felt petty, but they were very small and at eight quid I expected more. The lady took it away and another lady came back with the sandwiches and said something about the fact that I'd ordered a baguette and something about brown, and, as I didn't want to make a fuss, I said 'Oh. I'll just put up with it then'. On reflection, I'm not sure what she was on about, since it was white and not brown. The cheese was the sliced sort and the onions minced. It was one step up from a bad funeral buffet offering. The glasses were dirty too. This pub (and we go to quite a few in Devon, throughout the year) will go down in the 'never go back' category. Decor tired, music dreary and ambience non-existant.

I sent it back, only to have it returned in the same state, 3rd time out, after requesting a fresh meal, it came back with burnt mushrooms, burnt chips, and burnt tomato. I was told the chef couldn't cook it any more, no apology, so money back. Don't put food on the menu if your chef can't cook it correctly. Patience is a virtue, and i dont mind waiting for good food. Not to be missed, this pub restaurant is fabulous. I’m of the understanding that it is under new ownership. The food is delicious and well cooked and presented. The chef here has a good eye for detail. Even the children’s food is freshly cooked and the sizes are proportionate. There is a great children’s play area outside with lots of activities for them to enjoy. I played naughts and crosses there with my son. It is located on the road between Sidmouth and Exmouth and well signposted. It’s about 10 minutes drive from the M5 junction at Exeter. It’s also good value for money and a great for families.
