Awful place, service was terrible, and the food was cold, out of tin, tables uncleared and had been there for a long time. Other visitors left after not eating their food. Drinks given in Dirty glasses. Service very very slow and they all looked stoned and very unhelpful

My husband and I went for a pub meal, I had fish and chips, my husband had a burger and chips. He enjoyed his meal, but mine wasn’t up to the usual standard. My piece of fish was very small ( the pub knocked 10% off the bill) and the chips were very dry. Maybe been cooked earlier and reheated. I did mention my disappointment to the waitress who passed comments on to the kitchen. The staff were friendly though.

Avoid this place. Food isn’t good quality, probably re-heated. Tasteless, the worst Indian restaurant I’ve ever visited

Randomly drove round some villages to look for somewhere to eat, and boy did we get lucky with The Angel Inn! Was easy to park. Welcoming staff, lovely food, warm and comfortable. Staff did not rush us through the meal. Food was well presented, prepared to a high standard and of a large portion size.

Having thought overnight about whether and what to write, I have concluded that I must say what needs to be said, though I’m sorry to be writing this. I’ve eaten here on several occasions as it’s handy for Westonbirt where regular 10k runs take place. I’ve always been pleased in the past. Not so last night. I had booked online in advance. I chose a bottle of NZ Sauvignon Blanc which at Ā£29.50 was reasonably priced for its quality. I recommended and chose the white onion & garlic soup which I’ve had before when it was delicious. Last night the soup arrived and it looked and tasted quite different. It was thin and an odd colour and tasted only of stock and potato starch - not a suggestion of either onion or garlic. For some reason it was garnished with pea shoots. I did not finish it. The accompanying bread was good but the butter was too hard to spread. As to main courses, I’m told the fish pie was good. I chose the steak and venison pie with veg. The veg, particularly the flavoursome carrots, were good, though even a large portion of new potatoes failed to fill the enormous plate. The pie filling was good but the pastry was poor: undercooked on the filling side and tough and resembling a biscuit on top. I did not complain at the time as I did not want to spoil an otherwise convivial evening with visiting friends. Two servings of crumble were ordered and I’m told were delicious as usual. Having said all this, I want to say that the service was exceptional as always: welcoming, friendly, prompt and helpful, despite the presence of a slightly rowdy group in the other bar, following a six nations match. This on its own will mean that I give The Rattlebone another chance.

We were recommended the hotel by a friend. It was easy to find and fairly central in Chippenham the room we had was excellent, it’s an old 17th century building so has the creaks and conditioning of a building of its age , breakfast was easy and varied having a buffet / help yourself style . even as old as the building was our bathroom was modern and well presented. Had a swim every day , the gym attached had all the usual equipment, would recommend again, the staff were pleasant and helpful

Simply awful. Food cold and poor quality. Never seen a skinnier piece of fish or drier steak. Thank goodness there was a decent beer.

Typical National Trust Cafe with seating inside and out, the usual fare and nearby toilets and car park. Suggest NT ensure all staff behind the counter are dressed properly.

I so wanted to give it a 5 but charging a 10% service charge in advance is just taking the Mick. An extra 10 % for a pint poured in the bar, outrageous. I paid more for my beer as a punishment for eating there whereas if I’d just bought a beer and gone away I would been charged the proper amount. However The food was fabulous, the staff were attentive and helpful. I’ll go back again but will order drinks separately at the bar. I’d like to choose if when and how much I’d like to give as a tip. They let themselves down badly with the service charge policy which is a shame as everything else was exceptional.

All the cakes are frozen. Atmosphere is terrible. Think office canteen. Staff are rude. The whole place is expensive and terrible quality.

Fantastic Christmas lunch booked at short notice due to being let down elsewhere! Probably quite fortuitous switch as meal, ambience and waiter Cosmo were all absolutely excellent. There was a small issue with the bill as didn't initially charge set Christmas menu price which is what we'd booked, apparently doesn't apply on a Saturday!?! Soon rectified when we explained that noone had told us this and it didn't appear on the pricing on the menu previously or on placing our booking/pre order. Thank you Bishopstrow (and Cosmo) for an excellent, relaxed, festive lunch. Ps the Hawkes Bay Rose by the glass was delicious šŸ¾šŸ’—

We were lucky enough to have pre lunch drinks on the terrace in brilliant sunshine. On a Sunday there is a choice of four dishes for each course. That is plenty of choice and mqkes life easier. The food was very good and a serviceable wine list. The staff are very helpful and efficient.
