Lovely outside setting for lunch in the sunshine looking out on the hotel grounds. Excellent service. However very expensive for what you get.

Lovely surroundings and staff friendly and polite but service is slow and disorganized. I had to ask twice for cutlery and napkins as the table was not laid and the food arrived without any. Sandwiches were nice but a bit underwhelming for £16!

Well, did we hit lucky? It's a question I ask myself after having read mixed reviews over the past few months... all I can say is that our private family lunch for 17 held in the Library was as good as anything I've experienced in 50 plus years. A big statement from somebody whose career was spent in the World of events, hospitality and hotels. Pre-administration of the event was generally good with orders in advance, only slight niggle being that trying to get hold of people was difficult at times. The phone rang out too often and for too long. Bishopstrow House itself is a charming place, oozing character and history and our pre-lunch drinks served in one of the main lounges was a very good start. The Library Room ideal for a private lunch or dinner, although seeing one or two large ladies kitted out in white Spa Bath Robes waddling about in the reception area can be a little bit off putting if you get my drift. As for the lunch itself, it was quite simply superb and IMO borders on Michelin 1 star / 3+Rosettes. My Chicken Liver Parfait was beautifully served, rich in texture and flavour. Thumbs up also for the Smoked Salmon starter and soup. Good sized portions all. Mains equally as good. The Steak - nobody asked how I wanted it - was the perfect Medium and cooked to perfection with a delicious sauce and vine tomatoes that added colour and taste. The crispy chips yummy. I ended up with the cheese board which was generous as it was varied. In fact too much if I am truthful which I never normally say. The wines served were good - just glad I wasn't paying as a glance at the wine list highlights that there are some large margins being applied. Service from new boy Joe on the day was very good. All in all an excellent experience and one to remember for many years to come. Check out the photos for a flavour of our day.

Very poor customer service. We were a group of friends who had booked a cream tea. We were initially served cherry cake and tea. No consideration was given to any choice of tea, whether anyone had any food allergies and there was no provision for anyone who didn’t like cherry cake. After speaking with various members of staff, including the restaurant manager, we were eventually served our cream teas with a choice of teas and coffees and gluten free was provided. A couple of the group thought that they would have some Prosecco. We were horrified to learn that the bottle cost £50! The cream teas were good and I felt that they were good value but the price of the Prosecco was extremely expensive. In addition, the cherry cake had all the cherries sunk to the bottom, which didn’t look very professionally. I for one will not be returning and I doubt if any of my friends will be, especially when one of our group overheard a member of staff say that they were glad we were going.

Organised a family lunch here (Mother's 90th), for 18 people last Saturday, in one of their private rooms, the Library. Wonderful time had by all. From the planning of the event, through to the welcome, the food, the service, we were all delighted. Without exception. The venue is superb, and the Christmas decorations are magnificent. A big thankyou to all the team!

Stayed here for a midweek stay, it was a surprise from my partner so had no idea what to expect. We arrived for firstly afternoon tea before heading to our room, the afternoon tea was nice enough, rather lack lustre sandwiches... egg and cress, salmon, and ham. Just that, not salmon and cucumber or cream cheese, or ham and pickle or ham and even cheese! Just butter and salmon, butter and ham. The scones were very yummy though! As for the sweet cakes, interesting mix... think one was a sort of gingerbread mouse or something in a pastry tart but was pretty awful... the rest of the cakes were nice though and seemed fresh. Then we went to our room, which was pretty disappointing for my partner, he went on the assumption that it would be a junior suit room like on the website pictures, however the junior suite we had was tired, minimal, and not as “special as he had hoped”. He even apologised to me- not something a guest should feel they have to do on behalf of the hotel!!! You walk in and it’s a small room with a sofa and tv and a white plastic standing fan in the corner.. kind of like a student living room with regards to decoration and the atmosphere. Then open another door to the bedroom, again, pretty basic, lamp shades had cuts in, walls needed a good new lick of paint... I’ve been in nicer looking premier inns to be honest. The bathroom however was the saving Grace. Lovely big bath, nice big shower. On a whole the hotel needs a lot of TLC, for the prices being charged they need to meet those standards. The whole hotel inside looks pretty dated and confused in its design, it should be a beautiful country Manor House with that design throughout. Not dated wallpaper and carpets with catalogue furniture all the same and lights with cuts in the shades and naff artwork. The dining room was more like a conference space... dead in atmosphere too. On a whole they need to lower their prices until they reflect the quality of the hotel. Everything was looking tired and like a filler until the new items or new design takes place. Take a look at the pig restaurant and hotel small chain - thats the look they should be going for.The spa treatment we had however was nice! Although they charged us for a treatment we never had on top of what we did have, luckily we noticed and it got rectified straight away before payment. The food in the restaurant again wasn’t quite fine dining but was nice enough I’d say. The staff however were very good and friendly. Just a shame about their surroundings!!

Driving through the old market town of Warminster, past the historical church and beautiful stone houses was a good introduction to this spa hotel. It has been converted from a beautiful Georgian house and has a real feel of grandeur in the public rooms. The staff have been unwaveringly helpful and gracious. The food in the hotel restaurant (pleasant add on to the original building) is beautifully cooked and presented with delicious taste combinations, sophisticated enough for the parents but with options enough for the teenage children. My daughter said they did the best hot chocolate ever! The heated outside pool really is beautifully warm and clean whilst the thermal rooms are well kept and very pleasant (over 16s only). My husband and son had an excellent couple of hours on the indoor tennis court as the day was rainy, though there is a loveoy outdoor court. The familŷ room we had was large with a double and two proper beds and a beautiful large bathroom with walk in shower and freestanding bath. It was the last room they had, so up in the eaves, but the space and very comfortable beds made up for the slightly lower ceiling. We were travelling on to a holiday on the continent and booked this as an en route stopover....we will definitely be back!

Afternoon Tea is amazing at this place. lots of places to sit, and outside if its the summer months. We choose this place on a regular basis.Service is good, food produce is local and tasty.Spa is good if you swim, spa tub has no handles to get into it. (They use to be there once, I was told) Treatments and customer service is friendly and efficient and the treatments choices are good, all Elemis products used.Dodgy Locker locks, no need for coins but they have a keypad and you must remember the number you put in it when locked. Good tip - CHECK ITS LOCKED BEFORE YOU LEAVE IT! Cause as I say, they got dodgy locks in them.2 swimming pools, one inside and one outside, both heated and very warm.Remember the hotel allows children to use the outside pool, which can be used in the winter months too. Its not covered over.So your stay at the hotel will not be quiet and if you dont like children, avoid the hotel. Surrounded by Warminster and Sutton Veny, there are a number of eateries around the hotel, you may need to drive to get to them, but only 5 mins down the road by car.The hotel provides a good service and good food. Prices are high for food, but this is a 4 star hotel.

Found the Bishopstrow on the internet as a venue for sunday lunch. From the website everything looked fabulous. The pictures and menus looked perfect.Arrived at the hotel and again a great building with all the indications of a great lunch ahead.Sadly from here on it fell apart.Firstly way too many eastern europeans serving without smiles or the feeling of a relaxed sunday lunch. The menu was very well priced almost too good to be true !Don't be fooled the starters were average, the roast beef as tough as old boots and desserts very sad looking and the coffee just about drinkable. But the biggest shock is the prices on the wine list ! Bloody hell nearly everything started with a 4 !!! Yes really !Explains why the restaurant was so empty - the locals obviously don't support this hotel !Massive shame, this place could be fabulous but for £92 for two for sunday lunch it's expensive and under delivered on all levels !

Visited on Tuesday 10th March with my parents for their wedding anniversary and my mother's birthday. We were seated in lounge, tables rather low to eat from, after few minutes another 3 were seated and waiter left to get them menus, I then had to ask for some as ours hadn't arrived. We ordered two afternoon teas and one sandwiches. Our tea arrived after 15 mins and our food another 10 mins, rather spaced out and hot drinks almost gone. The food was lovely and as we couldn't eat it all I asked if we could take the remainder with us, they provided foil bag. I would recommend one afternoon tea and perhaps cream tea or sandwiches between two. We had to find a waiter to ask for the bill. This is a lovely venue however the service is on the slow side and you have to ask for things, they don't anticipate, in hind sight I shouldn't have paid the service charge, but as it was a treat to my parents and didn't wish to dispute.

Firstly as a visitor who only required food and refreshments, I was place to have a two course meal in a lounge area where others were drinking/chatting and my table was lower than my knees when sat down to eat. Not the most comfortable meal I have ever had. I don't mind paying for good food, but I chose the leak and potato soup for starter which was very bland. I have eaten tastier from the lunch trolley at work and my main was not great, overall very disappointing. All things considered, I am not too sure I should have paid the service charge added to my bill.

We were looking for something very special in the Wiltshire area as we stay with my father in Mere for Vacations. He is 87 years young and what we needed was a sophisticated dinner. We arrived and all the fancy cars were in the parking area and we had huge anticipation of a lovely evening. We had pre dinner drinks in the lounge and that when the evening started to go wrong .. we were sitting back, looking tat he menu and within minutes the Manager arrived to take our order, we told him , we were not rushing and he left in a huff, only to appear about 5 minutes later again! We again told him not to rush us, Lucky for us my wife went to see where he had a table booked for us, it was on a patio with a large family of noisy children and our table was right next to them! Did he not see my 87 year old father. We then asked to be moved to the main restaurant, well perfectly positioned by the entrance despite the restaurant being relatively empty. The whole evening it was just a disaster as they just seemed to rush us non stop, would really have told the manager off, had I not wanted the evening to be special for my father. What should have been a splendid evening, was messed up by a manager who really should move out of the hospitality industry!

Overall impression was of a hotel that has seen better days. Recommendation: stay somewhere cheaper but do go in for dinner. We stayed on the dinner bed and breakfast package. The meal was very good. As was the service in the restaurant. Take note. The dinner, bed and breakfast package doesn't actually offer any extra value for money as three courses off the menu adds up to the difference versus standard bed and breakfast. You also have to pay service on top and a supplement for certain dishes and side orders. And, of course, drinks. We had a single malt whisky in the lounge after dinner. £11. But it was all cloudy because the measures had last been used to serve Baileys. Poor that for a top restaurant. Breakfast was fine no complaints but I'd expect something a bit better for that price. Bedrooms was good size and quiet. The water in our room stopped during our stay which we reported but neither housekeeping nor reception seemed remotely interested. Music in lounge and restaurant loud and poppy. Not what we were looking for. Some of the furnishings quite tatty. Pool - indoor and outdoor - were both good.

Unfortunately the room lacked atmosphere an could have benefited from the logfire being lit and music other than Adele ( ok in the right setting ) playing. The food was well presented and the little cakes were very tasty. A nice added touch was the complimentary mulled wine or warm elderberry. Such a disappointment for my husband to have prepackaged Turkey in his sandwiches rather than real slices, very poor for £19.50 per person.

When we booked tea it was made clear one of our party had particular dietary requirements. When we arrived it was clear none of the menu items could easily be modified to fit and the staff were reminded of the requirement (no animal products) and asked to find out what the chef could make. After a long wait they returned and suggested a salmon sandwich to the vegan. The requirements were stated again and off they trotted. The others ordered and after a long wait and several pots of tea (it was a really long wait), the sandwiches arrived. For £6-8 per sandwich and a 4* establishment one would expect them to be made of bread better than the pappy mass produced rubbish that arrived. 3 triangular sandwiches (where was the 4th? This was the equivalent of 1.5 sandwiches, who had the other 0.5 sandwich?) with no crusts and a heap of gritty wilted salad arrived. No crisps as advertised because the chef apparently didn't have any, I expect the bar probably did but they didn't think of that. When the food had arrived, it was clear they had not understood the "no animal products" instruction and brought egg sandwiches for the vegan. Finally they told one of us that the didn't have the sandwich he had ordered at all and he had to choose something else. This was after everyone else had finished their sandwiches and his replacement took a geological age to arrive. Other sandwiches also had to be replaced due to substandard strange tasting ham but this was done with super efficiency and smiles by the staff. In all we were given a substantial discount on our bill but the overall experience of this supposed high class establishment was very poor. They do not seem to understand a simple dietary requirement or produce food worthy of a supermarket sandwich stand, let alone a 4* restaurant. Definitely not recommended.

Loved the food and the menu choices. Very good selection of vegetarian food (not that I'm one) with a separate menu if needed. My daughter is vegan and a lot of the dishes were not suitable so they made her a special dish - and it really was no trouble, so kind. However, they have 'designer' (sic) plates which are like a little bowl with a wide rim. Trouble was that this meant that everything had to be in the bowl part which meant ingredients weren't separated and so everything could seem a bit like a stew. If you tried to use the rim the plate tipped over. Next time (and we will be going again) I'll ask for my food on one of the breakfast plates.Restaurant staff lovely, friendly and helpful but also very professional. You can eat in the stylish restaurant, the conservatory (light and warn and smart) or outdoors - but perhaps not in December!

I booked a table of 8 for lunch to celebrate my fathers 89th Birthday and was slightly taken aback when I advised the person taking the booking that one extra family member might join us at short notice and received the reply that that would be a problem as the staff like to make sure the table is set up well in advance. The 8 of us arrived and where "greeted" by a very surly fellow which didn't bode well, in fact it pretty well set the tone for the customer service for the rest of the meal with one exception (young blond waitress did her best). The food was reasonable, but so very slow in getting to us. No one bothered to come and take our pudding order so I went to find someone to take our order and got a very stressed response ...yes yes I'll be there in a minute. After a couple more minutes we decided to go but the waitress then turned up and was insistent that we had to stay for pudding, which we did, feeling pretty uncomfortable. The pudding was excellent but the whole experience was a disappointment due to the unpleasant atmosphere created by the staff, they seemed much more interested in looking after their spa guests who I assume are regulars so guess from the attitude that non regulars are not welcome. We have celebrated many family occasions at Bishopstrow over the past 20 years including a fabulous lunch for my parents 50th anniversary but something has gone dramatically wrong at this hotel & I suspect it will be a very long time before we return.

My family spent most of last weekend eating (but not sleeping) in Bishopstrow House Hotel - from lunch on Saturday to lunch on Sunday. On Saturday lunchtime 7 adults and 2 children ate in the Conservatory from the snack menu - my only slight complaint was that our lunch took a long while to get to us but I could appreciate that the staff was very busy as the Conservatory was full and there was a private party in the restaurant. On the Saturday night, my children gave me a wonderful private dinner party for 30 in the Wilton Room. It was a delightful evening with delicious food (crab, Barbary duck and blackcurrant cheeesecake and sorbet) and the four guests who were on special diets had their own private menus - a very thoughtful touch. The next day, 13 of us (including 2 young children) ate from the Sunday Lunch menu in the Mulberry Restaurant (2 courses 16.95 and 3 courses £19.95). I was surprised that the restaurant was largely empty as the prices were comparable with pub prices and yet the food was definitely superior to any pub I have eaten in. All in all, we had a lovely weekend. The food was absolutely delicious and the service throughout the whole weekend was professional but smiley, which is a wonderful combination. I thought I would book dinner at the hotel as a surprise for my husband as we got married in this lovely hotel exactly 5 years ago. I emailed ahead of time and told them it was our anniversary and why we I wanted to book a table there. What a let down…the hotel has changed so much since we got married there in 2017. When we first arrived the receptionists were cold and not at all welcoming,we didn’t even get a happy anniversary from any of the staff which I thought was so unthoughtful. I explained I was gluten free and was given a normal menu and was told anything could be made gluten free. Great I thought, the food was horrendous.. I had a pie with different ingredients in to what was on the menu, the salad it came with was a couple of limp lettuce leaves and some potato wedges that were ok and the best thing on the plate! My husband had a steak and it was ok, certainly not worth the amount we were charged for though as the quality was not great. The poor young waitress gave us the wrong menu…I don’t blame her as she was doing the best she could and kept apologising for the mistakes. We were given a complimentary dessert as we had over a 30 min wait for dessert …great, checked the bill and we had been charged for it so again the poor waitress sorted that out on her own. There were two conferences on at the hotel and the staff were clearly overwhelmed. Such a disappointment, over priced poor quality food, lack of staff and just completely down hill. I pity anyone planning an event here as it’s changed so much.

The restaurant has been completely refurbished and looks most attractive. It’s a shame the food is not . I ordered soup of the day which was apparently vegetable, but didn’t taste of anything and I sent it back because it was not hot. It came with a very very small piece of bread. I asked for a larger piece and was told by two separate waitresses that ‘it was not company policy’. The coffee was horrible too. I never write reviews but felt that as this was so bad they deserved it.
