The best restaurants serving British food in South Hams South West

Nice vegan pizza with aubergine and pesto. I hope there were more vegan options. Servers were smiley and kind. However the cleanliness could be improved. There was some liquid on one corner of our table when we arrived. Our plates weren’t super clean (we found a rice on one ‘clean’ plate).

We had a wonderful experience at the hotel restaurant at Gara Rock. We were welcomed for an impromptu lunch by the attentive staff which was fantastic. The views from the restaurant were to die for. We both had the tomato and red pepper soup and the ploughman’s sharer which were both quite frankly the best we’d ever had. Their house polish bread was exquisite.

This used to be a really nice place and really good breakfast Today I know they was busy but we waited over an hour for a cold undercooked and burnt breakfast We paid in full as we felt sorry for her but will never return

Perfect spot for a few beers and lunch with outstanding views.

Went in January 2024 was lovely, couldn't fault anything. February 2025 - got our drinks then announced we had a table booked. The barman shower us to our table, came back to take our order, fine. Nobody else eating as very quite. When our food arrived the meat was almost past it's best, mushrooms again to far gone, over cooked. The other meal was cooked to long so that the filling had run out, otherwise that meal would've been perfect. We'd finished our meal ( no one asked if everything was ok) and we wait 20 to be asked if we wanted pudding and clear our plates. So we decided to pay and leave. On leaving the chef was back at the bar, he was drunk. Having run pubs before its certainly not a good advert. They lost money as we were going to have pudding and more drinks. It was like we were an inconvenience to them.

I visit regularly and am always impressed with the food and drinks. Excellent coffee and good food. The owner and staff do an impressive job with the space and resources they have and the Green is a great community asset. I notice a previous reviewer criticises the prices and the alleged quality of the food. This is unfair, naive and unrealistic as we all know the cost of living and food prices have increased and this affects everyone. Clearly some people cannot accept change or realise the world of food retail is very challenging these days. Definitely worth a visit and enjoy the community atmosphere of the village.

Best prawns we’ve ever tasted in a jacket potato,along with coleslaw and salad. We could not fault a thing. All round excellence.

Very average coffee shop with pretty rubbish coffee. Was told I couldn’t have coffee in a cup because they were closing (in an hour) so had to be a take away cup despite sitting in. Run by students without any business acumen and any care towards customer service. The kids running it were turning away customers frequently for silly reasons like not making a table available because they had their own coats and skateboards on it or they had cleaned down the coffee machine (an hour before closing time) on a busy Thursday/Friday. Not recommend as there are plenty of other great coffee shops.

I was very pleasantly surprised by my recent visit. A few months ago I found the establishment lacking. Today total transformation!!! Good 200%better,service 300% better. Staff so obliging,happy to help. Especially Chrissie ! Wow what a difference new owners have made. Food level of quality, quantity,and freshness 100%. I took my mum (91 y,) she really. Enjoyed ham. Eggs and chips !!! I had gammon etc Well presented and hot!!! As was the tea a first anywhere recently. Thanks to all staff and to Chrissie for explaining a lot of alternatives to menu and seating available Defo return thks guys

Wow what a pub! A proper pub! Rare find these days! Fab atmosphere, brilliant music, nice friendly locals! This is definitely the place to be! Best pub in town! Lovely young friendly guy behind the bar! Thank you! I work in the Blue Peter Polperro, very similar vibes 💙

What a great club and facilties

I booked 2 nights for friends online, i had some simple questions about parking and accessibility but couldn't get hold of anyone to answer my questions so i cancelled. I cancelled nearly 1 month before the cut off for a full 100% refund ( clearly stated in their contract when booking) . I then spent nearly 2 months calling, emailing, leaving voicemails to get my money back - they ignored every one. In the end I had to claim the money back via my bank. If my bank hadnt stepped in and help, this establishment would have stolen over £400 from me. I am writing to hopefully sway others and stop them doing the same to others

Called in for a reviving pint. Had a local beer called Legend which went down very well. Pub is quirky as it has a Post Office counter at one end of the bar. Steepish climb up from the river Dart but worthwhile.

Good spot for an enroute lunch. Food was fresh and well cooked, that was good value for money. A lovely lunch, will return.

I have never been to a place which such a mix of reviews, but the gamble was worth it I think!!! Yes its small (half the charm if you ask me!) and it only has 5 (i think) big bench tables. Yes its not cheap but its FRESH fish, cooked right in front of you. The waitress was friendly, polite, and approachable. No-one minded our huge hairy dog, the food was amazing (scallops a particular highlight) and I was met with a free glass of prosecco for Mothers Day. Its a very cool little beach shack, with great atmosphere and great food. Book in advance! We loved it....thank you Beach House for a very memorable Mothers Day lunch! I did notice there was a VERY large queue for takeaway coffee etc outside which i can imagine is frustrating but as there is no where else serving coffee on a popular beach, i guess you have to expect a queue!
