Dreadful. Risotto was a bowl of stock with a few spoons of cooked long grain rice and some chopped veg. Not a risotto. Beetroot salad was a basic green salad with a load of sliced beetroot from a jar on the top. Worst meal out in ages.

This is the best value hotel I have stayed in on my walk along the coastal footpath. All of the Salcombe hotels were full during regatta week, so I discovered this place - which was well-worth the 4 mile walk from Salcombe to West Alvington. The pub was really friendly and everything was new and up-to-date. It is run by a really professional team, who are all very customer-focussed and friendly. My room, and the dinner were great.

Avoid at all costs!!! Stayed for a night with work, wish I hadn’t. Greeted at 4:30pm by a drunk couple on the outside benches singing along to a Bluetooth speaker. (This later turned out to be the landlady) Bar staff couldn’t be less interested in showing us to our rooms. Also seemed an inconvenience us being there. I stay away regularly for work and I can honestly say this was the worst room I have ever stayed in. Stunk of damp, PVC decking ceiling (I assume to hide damp) carpet coming up around all edges, handles falling off cupboards, towels like sandpaper, silicone hanging off entry step to shower, black grout which used to be black. Revolting.

We were on holiday and staying in Kingsbridge. Looking for somewhere to eat, four of us and two dogs went to the Ring of Bells. A nice local pub with good friendly service, tasty food and excellent prices (and Linda giving the dogs some treats and water) meant that we went back twice more. Of course, we recommend that you go.

... you'd be well advised to stop here for food and drink - very good food at excellent prices, no fear of being ripped off! We found this pub by accident after doing a walk from Kingsbridge, which isn't far away. Husband had ham, egg and chips - delicious home cooked ham, 2 eggs and crispy chips. I had a ham and cheese ploughman's, which was really nice. Generous portions and great value

Unfortunately we didn’t enjoy our dinner here. The staff were great but sadly our meals were not. I had a pizza, the base was a pre made frozen one like in the supermarket, it was terrible. I just picked the toppings off. My husband ordered pie of the day that was meant to be turkey but came out as steak and ale. It too wasn’t great. Sorry.

As the other review says Dogs welcome and due to the way the rooms are set out you can come and go as you please . We were visiting family in Kingsbridge and it's 0.5 miles to the Town so ideal for walking back. If you are not good with hills or stairs (for the rooms) then you may not fancy it but for us it was great. Ryan was so accommodating of us especially my dog who is a rescue. breakfast was lovely and fresh every morning and you didn't have to prebook either ensuite shower (although make sure you pull the blinds if in a state of undress as other room users could walk past the window picture of view). towels hair dryer tea/coffee kettle and smart tvs. We made use of the bar especially as.prices were cheaper than London ! Was so pleased to have found this and will recommend to anyone else visiting thanks Ryan and Haze.

The accommodation is like a motel unit. Five en-suite bedrooms with outside entrances. Clean tidy and usual facilities of hair dryer and tea/coffee machines. The pub offers good pub food with specials and free breakfast- which is huge. (See photo: healthy options also on menu). The bar staff are friendly and professional and the bar has Sky sports and decent real ale. Also dogs are welcome. For walkers this provides an ideal base and is great value, with parking. We couldn’t find a cheaper one in the area. A great find.

Went for a meal for a special birthday and came away digusted and upset! I had to send my steak back as it was overcooked, I only wanted it rare, by the time my replacement had come out everyone had pretty much finished their meals. The plate was scolding hot (like ridiculous) so couldn't be touched, the second steak was cooked better but tasted awful and the bit I did try was charcoaled. It also had the biggest piece of fat on the otherside and was unappealing and unappetising. I tried a chip and again in was that scolding hot I burnt the roof of my mouth, everything had clearly been microwaved to heat up with a few extra chips thrown on top! I explained to the waitress that I wouldn't be able to eat, she did apologise. When it came to paying the bill we realised that we had been charged for said meal and explained that we wouldn't be paying as it hadn't been eaten. The chef/owner came out and was confrontational with us saying that we had to pay as they had cooked a replacement and the steak was cooked correctly the second time. Even with me saying that it tasted awful and was inedible and we shouldn't be charged for a meal that wasn't eaten he still said we had to pay! We came away disgusted and it ruined a lovely evening for a special birthday. This is the 3rd time we have been here and every time has been disappointing. 1st visit they tried to charge us for 2 bottles of wine and didn't even apologise for their mistake. 2nd visit they got the order wrong and the waitress was arguing with members of our party and now this! Won't be going back for a 4th visit! The manager clearly needs to going on a management course and learn how to treat customers! How they can charge someone for a meal that was eaten and had to be sent back is beyond me!

Very disappointing experience. I can understand why the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived at the height of the tourist season. Waitress seemed inconvenienced by us being there. Ordered 4 childrens meals with chips and beans and 2 came out wrong. Waitress didn't even give us chance to explain the error which meant 1 meal went back twice. Another meal had the wrong side order and the Waitress just seemed annoyed that we dare correct her error?! Medium steak was over cooked and chewy which you wouldn't expect for a £18 steak. When we explained it wasn't up to scratch, owner must have had a bad day as he came out and told us the steak wasn't wrong as he had been cooking steaks for x amount of years. Not sure what the relevance was? Sadly this was the final straw for us meaning alot meals where left uneaten as the experience had left a bad taste.

The service was excellent, the food was really nice, the coffee was a little cool but nice flavour, the draught Becks was a lovely pint (so my husband said) the bar and restaurant was clean, Now our room... I was mortified to be honest, it was awful, if I didn't know better I would of said the bed did not have fresh clean bedding, the pillows were cheap foam lumps that did not fit the pillow cases, the duvet was cheap and smelly , the bedding did not look clean and smelt as if they had been slept in, none of it was crisp and fresh, the flat screen TV was the smallest I have ever seen, it also only had a few channels. None of the furniture matched, the room was so dated. The bathroom was pretty clean-ish, but my god it was freezing, we dare not have a shower as it was so so cold, the taps moved on the sink, cheap thin towels, there was hand and shower gel, which was virtually empty, to me, to be using toiletries that have been used by several other guests is not hygienic, it was also very cheap rubbish, the hairdryer was very old and slow, so good job I did not need to use it as no way would it dry your hair, for the price they charge for the room it is absolutely criminal, which is such a shame as everything else was lovely.

Staying near Kingsbridge we called in the Ring O' Bells for a drink, on our way back from a great lunch (crab pizza!) at the Crabshell in town. Ominously quiet due to a near empty car park, slightly busier inside with a few locals shooting pool. Asked for a pint of light, pale ale, but was given a pint of flat, 'past its best' brown ale. The Mrs asked for a red. Two on offer. She had the Merlot. I took one sip of my rank pint and the Mrs one sip of her sour glass of "old" wine and we were off. I was uncomfortable anyway, sat on that disgustingly stained stool.... Avoid.

My wife had liver and bacon with several vegetables and I had cheese and ham ploughman's with coleslaw, pickle and plenty of salad. Followed by excellent decaffeinated coffee, it was a good meal. The service was leisurely but polite, and we were asked, before any other diners arrived, if the music was too loud - that doesn't happen often!

Popped in on the off chance of a table for dinner and found plenty.Very friendly service and given a window seat with a view over the rolling hills to Kingsbridge and beyond. The menu is generally good although a little limited but we all found something that we wanted. The cooking was really good and the steak came out of the kitchen as ordered and with a good sauce. Other dishes were likewise and very generous in proportion.I will certainly be coming to the Ring 'O'Bells again, not for Cordon Bleu but for good pub food cooked well. Beer is well looked after too and, from the black boards, a lot is going on in this comfprtable pub.

Really welcoming and nice atmosphere . Most places aren't that welcoming when you take a hyper 4 year old in! So thanks for that!! And the food was really nice and generous portions (which we like) and happy staff! Will return! And good wifi! Love that !!

We stayed in the accommodation for 3 nights when we went to a wedding in Kingsbridge. The owners could not have been more friendly. The room and bathroom were immaculate and the breakfasts were superb. We ate at the restaurant one evening and the steak was amazing. Would definately not hesitate to stay there again.

Having visited another pub in nearby Kingsbridge, I had a slight concern that our experience would be somewhat similar - tourist fodder, whose cash was welcome but presence tolerated. How wrong I was! The pub is warm and welcoming and it is clear that the the owners are building a business based on a fundamental principle often missing these days - hospitality! The following day we returned and enjoyed another drink. I cannot comment on the food, but the menu and promotions looked tempting - especially the grill menu. I would love to return at a quieter time of the year and spend an evening in front of the wood burner with a pint in hand!

I visited the Ring O' Bells on a busy Monday evening - very unprepossessing from the outside, but the staff are very friendly and they had no trouble in pushing two tables together to accommodate our large party. Ordered our food, mine order was for the seafood special, which was unfortunate, as just as I was coming back to the table, I passed a member of staff with a freezer box marked "Seafood Special" - I think it's a real shame that a place so close to the sea and therefore with so many opportunities to serve "real" food, would chose this option (and at £11.95 per portion it isn't cheap either). The chips which accompanied this dish were awful, very white and floppy - looked like they needed a second dunk in the fryer, whereas the chips with some of the other dishes were called "home made" and clearly looked and tasted like it. So, nice staff, shame about the food!

Popped in for a drink on a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon. Great service from the landlord and very pleasant half hour in the garden over looking the countryside.

The party that I was with consisted of four people. We had booked the table earlier in the day, advising that we would like to be able to hear the quiz that was being held that evening. However, when we got there, we were seated at the table furthest away from the bar! The restaurant was empty and so other tables were available. The waitress took our drinks order and then brought over the menus and specials boards. As a vegetarian, there was a limited choice, but the food sounded relatively nice. I chose the vegetarian moussaka. The order was taken, but about 10 minutes later the waitress came back to say they did not have the moussaka. I chose the vegetarian tart with couscous. Then about 5 minutes after this, the waitress came back to say to another member of our party that the chicken breasts were too small to be stuffed as they had been let down by their suppliers, but they should be able to put something together. When the food came, my tart did not have the couscous as it said on the menu. I mentioned this to the waitress who went off to the kitchen to check. She said that it would take another 5 minutes for this to be done. I said that this would be ok, to which she questioned whether I wanted the couscous, as if this was an anomaly. I felt that as it had been part of the dish on the menu that it should have been delivered automatically with the rest of the meal. When I did finally get all of my order, the food itself was nice. The rest of my party enjoyed their meal, although it was commented that the bacon used with the chicken was a little "fatty". Although the waitress was friendly, it felt as though there was a lack of knowledge about the food on the menu and what was available. The food was nice, but the dining experience was impaired by the problems that occurred.

This was a chance find on a Sunday. We went in, to be honest we were a little dubious at first it seemed like a local drinking pub. But we were wrong. We decided to be a little greedy and go for three courses, however due to the portion sizes we failed at this mission and ended up having a starter, i has soup, which was lovely and my friend had stuffed peppers, which were not exactly what we were expecting but nice none the less. The carvery was our main and was lovely. Small amounts of vegetables were prepared at a time so you didn't get the stodgy carrots etc you get at most carveries. Lots of vegetables including one of my personal favorites, red cabbage :) yummy!! The owners/managers seem to be really involved with their local community which is really lovely, they were hosing a car boot sale on the Bank Holiday Monday.Very happy we found this place, its a little gem! The staff were very friendly there were only two people in front of house, very busy for two people but very helpful and smiley! Thank you.

The Ring of Bells is a public house, restaurant & holiday accommodation. We visit it for lunch occasionally & for their Sunday Carvery. It is one of several places we frequent when we in the area & the Sunday carvery is very good indeed. There is a choice of 4 meats as a rule & a good variety of vegetables which we consider good value for money. Sadly the menu has been modified & where there was cheese & tomato omelette on offer under the "small bites" section, it has been taken off. However, John did make me one, especially, and it was excellent. He doesn't like praise apparently! The liver & bacon is great too. We can recommend the food & the service.

Dinner one night was enjoyable due to great quality and very hearty portion sizes. Unfortunately for a quiet night with only one or two other tables besides ourselves, our food came to us 45min after ordering. Not sure how long the wait would be on busy nights!

We took my elderly cousin to lunch on a Monday and were the only diners in the restaurant which was decidedly on the cool side (windy and wet November day). However, that's the only reason I didn't give a five-star rating. We were welcomed in a warm and friendly fashion by attentive staff who didn't pester us but instead gave us plenty of time to make our selections and finish our meal. We'd chosen the pub because it had choices for 'smaller appetites' on the menu (my cousin struggles with the large portions usually served in pubs). In fact the 'smaller portions' turned out to be what I would consider 'normal' size and my husbands 'normal' portion needed a very healthy appetite to do it justice! The food was served on nice hot plates and was very tasty. Despite the weather we enjoyed the extensive views across rolling hills. The village shop is also run by the pub but we didn't visit it on this occasion so can't comment. We'd definitely visit again. We might even try one of their 'pudding' nights which sound fun (once per month).

Booked here for a Sunday Carvery to celebrate a family birthday and what a disappointment. First impression was that of dirty & tired appearance, the Carvery itself was awful, we didn't stop for a pudding and left quickly - we will never ever return

Awesome. Don’t judge a book by its cover. I arrived late evening for work over a couple of days. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful from getting me a taxi late evening at the train station to helping me get to my work venue in the morning. I had arrived past restaurant hours but the staff were more than happy to prepare food if I had wanted. I was also given a local delicacy from a local. I’m normally a poor sleeper but slept so well. Whilst the rooms at first appearance look a little dated the bed is so so comfy. The room also spotlessly clean. The question is - what’s more important to you - a great nights sleep or a sterile environment with mod cons? Sadly the first morning I didn’t have chance to sample the breakfast- I didn’t have time to wait. They have a sign saying ‘We don’t serve fast food. We serve fresh food as fast as we can”. Suffice to say I ordered my breakfast for the following morning before I went to bed so it was ready for me when I needed it. Now for the highlight DINNER. I eat a lot and this is definitely one of the best meals I had in a long time. Not the usual processed pub food. The main(stuffed chicken with root veg and dauphinois potatoes was delicious. I never order dessert but felt I had to - the main was so good. The sticky toffee pudding did not disappoint. Overall a really great stay. Thanks so much

I booked 2 nights for friends online, i had some simple questions about parking and accessibility but couldn't get hold of anyone to answer my questions so i cancelled. I cancelled nearly 1 month before the cut off for a full 100% refund ( clearly stated in their contract when booking) . I then spent nearly 2 months calling, emailing, leaving voicemails to get my money back - they ignored every one. In the end I had to claim the money back via my bank. If my bank hadnt stepped in and help, this establishment would have stolen over £400 from me. I am writing to hopefully sway others and stop them doing the same to others
